Trying to flash a ROM to a7272 phone - General Questions and Answers

Hello all,
I have a7272 Chinese phone and I accidentally deleted Google Contacts. Since I cannot reinstall it, I have to flash a new ROM.
Although the members here are brilliant, and I could find a lot of information here, I've been sitting a day and a half trying to solve my problem.
I managed to install CWMR by following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1825722.html- worked perfect.
I tried to flash this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25575846&postcount=88 (I also need Hebrew in my phone), but I get error 16008 in SP Flash Tool, something about the partitions size.
Where can I find a suitable ROM for my phone?
I'm really frustrated :crying:.
Can someone help me please?

Wait isn't it just and android phone? How come you just don't find the APK file for Google Contacts?
Anyways with some research it seems that the partition tables are different in your phone or the recovery image isn't the right size. In the comments of the post Leonid says to do this "pressing the ::: (Format) * Auto Format Nand Flash -> Format whole flash except Bootloader and NVRAM Bin Region => OK
information is from here
http://bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.com/2011/10/mt65x3-flashing-tutorial.html
and if that doesn't work go here http://bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.com/2012/04/creating-rom-dump-of-your-mt65x3-device.html
Hope it helps, but try to find the APK File first.

It's not just contacts.apk, but maybe ContactsSynch and so. I still haven't found a proper way to reinstall this app, nor to flash my phone.
I saw that remark of Leonid, but I'm afraid that forcing this flash will do more harm than it is now. I didn't find any approval of this method anywhere.
MTK_Rom_Studio, for some odd reason, generating the scatter file with MT6516 in it's name, while my phone is 6573. This is strange.

That sucks, but do you know the exact name of what you deleted, and did you every make like backups of your files.

I gave up on the flashing idea. I said to myself I'll try to replace the missing apk's. Jhpianist, I saw that solution somewhere else already, and it somehow got to me that I can find the missing system apk's in one of the cooked ROMs I downloaded here.
Anyway, now I can sync my contacts and I'm able to dial or getting into my contacts, only through a third party app I had to install. Once I click on the original Contacts or Dial, I get the error "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly". No matter what I did, clearing the app cash, restore to default... nothing helped.
The guy who posted the solution, for reinstalling Contats.apk, said that one need to install the app once it's in system/app folder, in addition to changing its attributes. But I got a massage that the application wasn't installed once I tried.
How can I get rid of the stupid error? I feel I'm really close...
Thanks everyone :good:

Missing apps after HERO upgrade

I was wondering if anyone else was running into the problem I'm having, and if it has been covered before and I missed it in the search box earlier I apologize. I just recently tried to upgrade to JACHero2.6 and my market app (most important) along with several others are missing. The apps are automatically installed on all my other roms, it is only with hero that I end up missing alot of apps. I have a correctly formatted SD card and I did a wipe before I installed this and tried the whole process twice. If I am forgetting to do something special prior to installation or afterwards please let me know!!

you may have gotten a bad download. try redownloading it again. do you have 3 partition (fat32 ext2/3 linux-swap) if not i suggest that for jac's 2.63 also make sure you check file extensions in recovery screen. hopefully this helps
Yes I have my card that exact format and I tried using the filesystem checker in the recovery screen it said filesystem check was complete!! I'll try doing the whole process over again but I'm not sure how that would help, and it is sad too this is the best damn hero rom i've tested to date, its fast as hell!! If it weren't for my apps not being here i wouldn't be planning on a future rom update in the near future or until some big release happens.
make sure you always check md5 sum of all your hero build download
you could of had a damaged downloaded rom and this could affect your rom.
Just tried to download a fresh copy of the rom, checked to make sure my sd card was working properly, wiped and re-flashed yet my market app and the same apps I was missing before is still missing. It should be included that apps on my ext2 were coming back like they should be just not all of them, and not a few apps that I thought should be included with the rom. Is there anything I should check that I may not have yet?
I would use Root Explorer to check if the apk files are still under system/sd/app if they aren't... well, there's no way you're going to see them again unless you re-install them. You can also look under system/sd/app_s if that's there. Other than that, if you can't find it, it's not there. (If you know the exact name of the file or at least part of the apk file name, under terminal type: find "file name" (w/o quotes ofc)
You can add wildcards (*) if you don't know the exact name of the file. If the apk file is still there... well... let's just see if its there first.
I checked using terminal, I typed "vending.apk" and tried to check the dir's you specified for the apks. If they are there I can't find them, although I am a bit limited as terminal is the only app that came loaded with which to check for files. If the apk files are indeed not there then why would the apps install on their own without a problem on any other build but hero??? I must be doing something wrong right? I am open to any suggestions at this point, even using a different rom to check for something, my goal is to have this rom flashed with my apps working soon!
heres the vending.apk from jachero 2.63 you can try and adb push it to /system/sd/app_s and see if it works.
Thanks, I'll try pushing that over but I'm still worried about the rest of the apps I'm missing. Would there be anything else I could try to make it possibly fix all the missing apps? What could be causing this problem in the first place? I did notice that my sd card has an ext2 rather than ext3 part, will that cause all of this to happen? I'm still pretty lost on this. I tried going back to another rom just to make sure my apps would still all pull up correctly, and they did so it has to be something related to this most recent build of jachero, or something
welcome to the club my friend (-;
i have the exact same problem and noone was able to help me yet.
It must have something to do with Jacs apps2sd method. i read some tweets between him and cyanogen that it might be a little 'rough'.
however - it's always the same apps that are missing, in my case it's (badly enough) launcher.apk AND rosie.apk which pretty much means that i can't solve it.
i also tried everything i could with ADB - without luck. I somehow have the feeling that theres something staying on the phone even when wiping and formatting.... I'll check this through ADB this evening.
look @ my recent posts:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search_rop.php?searchid=25731882
for previous moaning from myself ( (-; ) and discussion with others in the JACthread. Basically the last 15 - 20 posts are about nothing else (-;
I will also do some logcating today - i've already seen the errors through install (rosie.apk couldn't be parsed etc) but i forgot to save it (and the command promt only saves 100 lines or something)

I have used AndExplorer and put the APK's in the sys/sd/apps and it all worked fine. Very easy to do if you don't know how to push, just reboot after.

You don't need to have the myfaves app for you myfave minutes to work. You are still calling them for free regardless if you have the icon or myfave compatible phone or whatever. If you want to manage the people just log on to mytmobile.com and make the changes there.
Hmmmmmmmm . I never realized thanks for pointing that out TurboTsi.

open up your copy of the build and check in system/app_s to see if the .apks are even in the build. if pushing the vending.apk works i dont mind posting the other ones you are missing if you want to pm me or something
Just tried opening the update.zip file and verified that all the apks are there. Which makes me wonder what exactly is up. Im thinking it could be an apps2sd issue, like what was said above. I didnt have this problem with older hero roms that i can remember. TBH I could try pushing apps with adb but that wouldn't bring back my other 3rd party apps floating in ext2 limbo. So I'm out of ideas ;(

try going to the recovery console and entering upgrade_fs and that will change your ext2 to ext3 and see if wiping and flashing change anything. also if you have root explorer you can check your /system/sd folder to see if all of your third party apps are there
Just tried upgrade_fs and it gave me a "unable to allocate block" I noticed there is little if any room left on the ext2 partition. Would that cause all of this? If not would it be worth a shot to resize the partition and give it more space from my fat32 then try to upgrade wipe reload again?
If you're out of ideas, then I would attempt to resize first (but backup your fat32 first) and then see if that solves it, if not, then I would format, wipe, and update...
but are you sure those 3rd party apps are not there? Try using Root Explorer to determine if the 3rd Party Apps are there, if they are, just pull them to your sdcard and try installing them again with ASTRO or something like that.

Lenovo IdeaTab a2107

Hello everyone,
I bought this tablet on ebay and it seems that the ROM preinstalled is a test ROM.
I searched the web to find a custom ROM but I couldn't find much info.
I found the way to root the tablet but that's all.
Is there anyone who can indicate me a link to a stock rom or a good custom one?
Thanks for those who will read and help!
What do you mean by TEST ROM?!!! this is ridiculous, I have the tablet and it's working like a charm even I received over air update yesterday, the only odd is that I can't use it as a phone because Lenovo has no license yet for that it's available only in the Chinese version, and I think this will be solved later when they start launching their mobile phones all over the world.
Hello mmis,
Test rom is not the correct terms but I didn't know how to call that !
The problem is that every widget I put on the desktop is loading but never display anything.
The information in "About tablet" are the following :
Model number : IdeaTab A2107A-H
Android Version : 4.0.3
Baseband version : MAUI.11AMD.W11.50.SP.V13, 2012/05/25 01:09
Build number : A2107A-H_S307_120605
If I search for system updates, it doesn't find anything. If I click on firmware update, the settings FC.
I made a factory reset but no luck.
That's why I thought it wasn't a stable version.
As long as you tried the factory reset with no luck, I think in your case its better to get back to Lenovo customer service or your local dealer if it's under warranty, they should be able to help you. it's a new device in the market and it will be difficult to find custom ROM for a while or even someone to give model-specific help. Good Luck
Would you mind linking to the instructions on how to root this thing?
Sure, no problem !
After several hours of search and difficulties to register onto Chinese websites
I managed to find the attached file. I take no credit for the tool because it was developped by someone else (SNARL I guess)
It was missing the superuser apk inside so I put it back and also translate the steps to English.
Here are the steps :
- Connect the tablet in Debug USB mode
- Launch root.bat
- The device will reboot at each of the 3 steps
If you need more info, don't mind to ask!
Here is the link of the original thread :

Fantastic, thank you very much.
LePad Chinese Model A2107A-H
I have a Chinese issue model of the A2107A-H that has the dual sim card cellular feature. I've been trying to get it rooted to get rid of the Chinese apks on it, but normal rooting software has not been successful so far, including the one posted here from SNARL via Ichi go's post. I get a "device not found" error message and in device manager on my PC it indicates that there is no driver installed for the device. I have "debug" turned on and the USB link seems to be working as I can see file folders on the device, but the rooting software will not run. I've tried several of the most well known methods with no luck. Any ideas on this would be appreciated and in particular, if there is a driver I need to have installed to get the rooting software to work??
TIA!!!
Rob
First of all many thanks to you ichi go it was very easy to root this device as instructed, but as the one I have does not have the phone calling capability, I replaced the phone.apk with different one but now the device does not recognize the sim card at all, I tried to push many versions of phone.apk to system folder with no luck, it seems even if I put the apk in the system folder the device will not launch it at all, could you please help me in that.
I've had this tablet for a while and love it. I just got the OTA update and its downloading now.
I'm a also keen on rooting it and inns installing a custom ROM. I guess once its a bit more common, we can expect a dedicated Dev community here on XDA
The update failed to install. I'm not rooted or anything but upon restart it gave a signature verification error.
Any way to fix this?
Edit: got it! was a path error since i had changed the default storage.
but i can't figure out any changes

How does your device appear in the device manager? For sure, the adb driver isn't installed. If it's not the case, download android sdk and then the Google USB driver in the extra section.

FM Tuner - perfect for in-dash?
The in-dash car tablet people should be happy to hear the A2107 has an FM Tuner. It's one of the few tablets that has a radio tuner, and the only modern 7" that I know of. I just ordered one. I will report back.
The Chinese stock rom I installed has the phone ability and that works very well! The problem of this stock rom is that the Google services aren't there. I'm trying to find a way to install the zip file but I need to know the exact path of the recovery partition.
I tried to find it with the cat /proc/emmc command but this partition isn't listed.

So I understood that you managed to flash the Chinese stock ROM, am I right?!! please tell me how to do as I am facing serious problems with my device, I managed to root and then I changed the phone.apk (what the hell I was thinking of) and now I have the the error message android.process.acore stopped working and sometimes the sittings force closed, I tried to re root, factory reset and deleting cache of almost everything with no use, even I contacted the Lenovo CS to reinstall the original firmware, I think they will charge me for that :crying:
by the way I don't have contacts anymore (I installed it manually) and the most impressive thing that the device doesn't recognize the SIM card (I cleverly deleted the original one phone.apk :silly and what ever apk I push into the system/app folder and change the permissions it will not install after reboot.
So...what do you think guys?!! any help?
I've confirmed this does work on the A2107-F.
I had some trouble with the ADB driver. I can't post links, so you will have to google it, but I used adb_driver_20110720.zip for the drivers. I forced it to install via Update Driver > Browse my computer > let me pick > have disk > pointed to the android_winusb.inf file > selected the thinkpad option, it was the bottom of the two.
I also had to manually turn the tablet back on after the first reboot, but it went fine after that.

Rom size errors

After an extensive search of both this site and using google for the error, I am stuck at a crossroads in terms of trying to install the GPE DigitalHigh edition on my HTC One M8.
The issue is as follows:
Installed RUU of GPE 5.1 (this is the only RUU I have at present)
Did all the various system & cache wipes etc using TWRP
Did the filesize repair on System
Tried to install the above ROM using the installer and got the following error:
failed to mkdir /system/etc/firmware/wcd9320/wcd9320_mbhc.bin: No space left on device
And then the various symlink errors associated and an Installation Status 7 Failed
Now I get the issue, in that the /system folder is clearly not big enough, an issue with the GPE RUU from what I have read. However, the only advice I can find to rectify this is to use the RESIZE option in Advanced Wipe in TWRP. However, I have done this, I've even done it a few times in succession in case it is like the RUU process and doesn't necessarily work first time. However, another run of the installer and I get the exact same error. Looking at my system (in Wipe) after a failed install, I can even see that the system partition is full, but I don't know how else I can resize it to avoid this error.
As I said, trawled through almost 500+ posts trying to find answers, from where I gleaned the above information, but no other way to resize the system partition than the method I tried. Therefore, I would genuinely appreciate any help anyone could give in overcoming this error, by whatever method is best/works best.
I have full log file from my failed install and can also explain the steps I took / files I used in more detail too if necessary. At present, it's just a case of another RUU of the GPE 5.1 at the moment until I can find a solution Purely wanting to install so I have the M8 camera functionality back if anybody has any other tips for achieving this other than the above (again, searches etc have led me to the camera.apk, I've had it installed etc but the editor still goes to the FX editor, without any of the HTC sense camera functions (like Duo, U-Focus etc) that I am keen to get back.
Again, apologies if this is answered elsewhere, but it's not for the want of looking, and as a new user not allowed to post directly on the ROM post yet. I would appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Sie

You would have a better chance of finding a working solution if you go to the M8 forum.
I'll bet @xunholyx can get you straight, he's pretty experienced with the M8 I think.

Again, apologies if this is answered elsewhere, but it's not for the want of looking, and as a new user not allowed to post directly on the ROM post yet. I would appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Sie

You need to run a Sense RUU to resize your partitions. The GPE system partition is too small for Sense based ROMs and RUU is how you fix it. Just like you ran a GPE RUU to resize your partitions for that.

If you don't know where to get the RUU, or if you need instructions, post/reply here and I'll give you complete directions on how to do it.

Thanks for your reply. Really appreciate your help. I think I'm ok with the RUU process itself, as I ran it to get to this point, however I'm not sure where to locate the RUU I would need to effectively "roll back" to stock, so any help with that, and directing me in which of the plethora to choose would be greatly appreciated! Perhaps if you could give me simple instructions, so it's not too time consuming for you, but to ensure I'm not missing anything in the RUU process that could lead to further complications, that would be a big help too!

Download this splash.zip, rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip and place it onto your extSD. Boot into bootloader and select hboot if it doesn't automatically. Vol up to flash, power to reboot. That'll repartition your phone, but with old firmware. Delete the renamed zip from extSD, otherwise every time you boot to hboot it'll try to update again.
Next, download this RUU onto your PC to update to Lollipop. Hook up your phone and double click on the download, then follow the prompts. You'll probably get a "fail hboot pre-update" (or something like that). The first run updates the hboot with old firmware. Just run the RUU a second time without disconnecting, and the conversion back to Sense will be complete.

You are an absolute star, thank you. Will give this a bash when I get home from football later today, and let you know how I get on or if I have any problems. Great written instructions though, thanks!

Just had a try, get Update Fail! in red text when I try to do the Hboot. Not sure why?
Thanks,

I'm not sure.
Try the splash.zip download and instructions from here. It should be the same file, but trying another download and flashing from your PC might work better for you.

Brilliant, tried those and it worked a treat. Then installed using the RUU you gave me, and as promised I was greeted with a full back to stock Sense version, and have been able to install the ROM I wanted. Thanks once again for all your help, truly appreciated!
I'm guessing it was the CID that was causing the error, if anybody has the same problem in the future and ends up on this thread. I'm guessing if I'd have changed the CID your method with the HBOOT would probably have worked too (as out of curiosity I tried the HBOOT method with your file and it then worked).
Thanks again, great to know there are people out there willing to try and help each other. :highfive:

SM-T116bu Kernel?

I just bought a Samsung tab 3v then I successfully rooted it using this: ( www 4shared com/get/4sFqkNODba/ ) but after I did that I could no longer use the camera (error then force close) so I'm asking if anyone could help me with that please? I did few research they said it's something about the kernel so anyone could provide me with one for my phone?
Someone please help me with this? At least provide me with an already rooted rom.

have a look through these and see if you can find a kernel :
https://www.google.com/search?q=SM-...es_sm=93&ie=UTF-8#q=SM-T116bu+return+to+stock
i didnt see any promising leads on google for a rom, so your only alternative may be to return to stock. have a look through these for a possible way to do that :

one small tip for future reference.
you should figure out how to fix your phone and have the tools and files on hand before making any modifications.
personally, i never do anything to my phone before thoroughly learning how to fix it, and if i cant find a way, then i dont mod it.
i see all the time on here, people frantic because they broke their phone and dont have a clue how to fix it.
in some cases there is no way to fix it because the files are not available, its really important to know that before you break it.

Didn't you actually 'think' that I already searched for that on Google? Please try to 'think' that if you don't do mistakes you will never learn so yeah not breaking your phone doesn't mean you're smart OR intelligent.

i never implied that you or anyone else wasnt "smart or intelligent"
i have broken my phones many times. the difference between me and a lot of users i see posting here is, i think about what would happen if i do something and it breaks the phone, before i actually do it. then i go and find out how to restore stock, and gather the files and tools first. then i actually restore stock, just so im sure i know how to do it first.
i see and help countless users here on xda, and frequently see people run to flash things they think they have to have right away. frequently that is followed by post pleading for help, because they failed to understand the journey, and chose to jump right to the finish line.
so yes, i agree, not breaking your phone doesnt make you smart or intelligent. knowing how to fix it, and helping others to fix theirs for many years, at minimum should gain those of us who help others a little respect, because we dont get paid to, nor have any obligation to, help anyone.

How come? Posting a Google link is actually helping? Then next time someone asks who's that guy, you tell him Google it. I did come here for a reason, which is finding a developer who can make a prerooted rom for me since it doesn't exist anywhere in the Web.
Anyway I found a solution I will post it here in case someone needed it:
1- Flash the tablet with stock rom (the one of your SM-T116bu) skip to 2 if you already have the stock rom and you only want to root the tablet.
2- Get a file explorer (ES explorer or root explorer).
3- Browse to system/lib and copy the whole lib folder and put it somewhere you can access it later.
4- Flash your tablet using the prerooted SM-T116nu rom (link is above).
5- Using the root explorer replace all files in the system/lib which has a 'camera' word in their name with the same files name from the lib folder of the stock rom, do the same with the files in system/lib/hw6- Reboot your device and the camera should work again.

Then next time someone asks who's that guy, you tell him Google it. I did come here for a reason, which is finding a developer who can make a prerooted rom for me i can tell you right away, thats not going to happen. this site isnt a place where devs sit waiting for people to make request, so they can make stuff for them. xda is a place where you come to learn how to make it yourself, if you dont already know how, and support the community with it. since it doesn't exist anywhere in the Web.

Thanks, but your method soft bricks (black screen, can't operate the phone at all after booting) the phone until I flash the rooted or the official ROM again. There's no hw6 folder either, just hw and even changing only the lib files with camera in their names will also soft brick the phone.
I found a solution!!!
Restored my phone to the latest official ROM, then flashed the tiny file from the topic below using ODIN.

Worked like a charm!

Possibility to return to STOCK ATT ROM after KDZ flash of PR version?

I'm noticing that FlashFire has the option to backup the system parition file based. I'm wondering if someone who has flashed the PR ROM could simply do a restore of a STOCK ATT system partition backed up this way and if it would work? If anyone wants to try, I can make a backup and upload it and post a link.. Let me know!

Yeah.. probably right. It was real late when I posted that LOL
Actually doing a system restore via file based shouldn't hard brick the phone. Only if it was raw based possibly, but either way it would only be the system position so the kdz/tot would still be able to be flashed to the phone as before. This might work! Or at least be a good base to try.

I agree with this theory. It should only flash the system over the system. You would have to make sure the boot loader is correct for the system rom. So say a 10b bootloader for an equivalent 10bPR rom.
(If any of the above is confusing or slightly off, I blame it on the fact I have been battling a bad virus this week with a bad headache.)
I just warrantied my PR rom device a few weeks ago, or else I would have tried this for you.
Edit: You would also have to edit the script in the file to flash to designate the correct partition to flash the system to.

Unless it just extracts the tar'd files it copied from the system partition of the stock device. Still some ambiguity regarding that app. For example, it shows no option to allow me to make backups on the external SD card...

I would think it still needs an address as to where to put the extracted files.
I will look and see if I have any twrp backups on my computer from some of the roms I made. I have never fully looked through and studied the backups as much as I used them for system dumps. It just seems to make since that the recovery would need to know where to write the system files. Just flashing an app is alright without the address.
In writing the flashing script for ROMs, I have always had to give the recovery the address as to where to write the system files or else it would result in a flash failure or soft brick.
I may be writing my scripts wrong too. I just know what works for me.
