Google is the only one who can build them from source.

Gapps are Gapps. They aren't made for certain phones. You can use those on this phone. As long as you are on the proper Android Version.
He edit the Gapps to only work properly with the gnexsus

Sorry for my ignorance but how was it modified to only work with the Nexus?
I'm tempted to try this. If it does botch the phone, would I still be able to get back to recovery and flash a rom again? If so I'll give it a shot - I'm at work which is why I ask, without access to odin

I see no reason why it would impact your ability to recover with CWM or TWRP.

Okay it booted up without issue
I'm running CM10 8/16's nightly (1820? I think it was) flashed fresh (full wipe) with this gapps from the link posted previously: "gapps-jb-20120810-JRO03C-Formula84.zip" (1st package)
The phone booted without issue and seems to run fine
The camera:
- The settings seem much more limited than they were before from what I remember using gapps 7/26. Total "Camera settings" are Store Location On/Ofrf and Picture size of VGA/1.3M/2M/3M. I think I remember it going up to 8M on 7/26 and there seemed to be more options (for instance focus options)
Maps seems to function properly, though I haven't been able to test GPS or anything since I'm at work\
Calendar wasn't showing all of my calendars available within Google Calendars (online) as the previous gapps did
Gmail didn't seem to be able to sync my emails when I opened it, it stayed at "Waiting for sync - Your email will appear shortly"
Messaging worked as usual
Gallery seemed to work as usual
Browser seemed to work as usual
Google Now worked as usual
Play Store seemed to work as usual. Wallet still didn't show in the Play Store
Phone worked as usual
If anyone wants me to check anything, please let me know what to check. I'll be restoring my previous CM10/gapps 7-26 backup in 30 minutes (6p EST)
Honestly I'm not too familiar with what exactly to look for but I did see some changes in doing this. Just trying to help where possible

The lack of calendar and gmail functionality is what really did it for me. The less camera features was a nuisance also

First a BIG thanks to every one here for making my Xoom experience an everyday Christmas....
Just flashed EOS nightly 34a with gapp v9' and went to setup face lock.
When I go in to:
Settings
Security
Screen lock
That is at the moment secured with pattern.
The choices:
None
Slide
Face Unlock
Is grayed out, with the text - Disabled by admin encryption policy or credential storage.
I have absolutely no clue what I've tinkered with.
Any tips to remedy is greatly apriciated.

Try this. I installed it when it came out, and it fixed Facelock to set up. Even several rev's down the line, it is still working for me.

No, im eos only guy so far
So i used the gapp 10.1 from there site.
But i reverted back to 9.
Gapp 10.1 refuses to open some apps, like sygic navigation.
Going back to 9 fixes it.

I dont think that will help.
If u read the first post you see that no lock, as well as slide lock also is grayed.
So it seems more as some kind og setting issue.

My fault all together SORRRRY...
Did a complete factory wipe, and reinstalled nightli 36 + gapp 10.1.
Now facelock works like a dream.
Still a lot of issues with programs that will not start.
But this problem solved.

This has been going on for about 2-3wks so it is not a specific nightly.
I believe I was using the lastest Gapps released 20120726
I just installed a newer version gapps-jb-aromainstaller-20121003-r6-signed.zip.
However ran into same issue. Everything syncs properly BUT contacts.
Anyone have a solution? TIA

Well call me suspicious but did u verify ur contacts actually exist on the Google gmail website. If they are there then this is a first time I've heard of this.
And if they are there u can export them from the website under the contacts section then send that to ur desktop, then copy that to ur SD card. Then open the people app and from settings import the contacts.

Sounds like the cm nightly thread can help u more since I could have been just the nightly ROM issue.
But if ur assumption may be true, then perhaps just flash it again and before u add ur apps, verify that they synced.
Then if they did sync add ur apps to see if one of them did cause the glitch or making them hidden.
One last question:
When u go to settings/Google does it say"last synced on...." next to contacts as well as ur calendar, browser, gmail.. etc?
Or is it unchecked?

I never figured-out the problem. I even reinstalled CM 10 but that did not fix it.
For reasons other than sync'g, I now run SlimBean. (sync works)

First off that 20120726 is NOT the LATEST Gapps depending on the ROM you are using.
Secondly, give my post in this thread a look and let me know if it works for you.

Okay it did n ot work. I was messing with this last night too and I noticed that when I am on gmail (web) and i create a new contact it will not sync to the phone. I even deleted some ontacts from gmail and it didnt sync to the phone it only deleted the ones i dumped from gmail. This is totally agrivating. Cm9 works fine. Whats the deal with cm10??

I'm not understanding how it could be CM10 specific but anything is possible. Maybe try it again a time or two. Maybe it needs to catch up. If that doesn't solve it then I am not certain unless there is another issue underlying. Are you using HaxSync?

this is the stupidest thing.. i was messing with this for a while yesterday and the discovery I made was that it had to do with dupes that I had purposely created. for some reason when I created the dupe CM10 would not sync them. so what I did through trial and error was create ANOTHER dupe with all dummy information (fake fone and fake email etc) so that the phone would think its another contact with the same name and viola!! it worked. so now I am down by about 7 contacts from 47. eventually the other 7 will filter in. thanks for all the help my brother!!! now onto solving the "application not installed" issue. ugh...

Ive tried pushing and flashing.
Flashing every zip found on XDA for the 4.2 camera.
It records fine. But the recorded video doesbt play.
It reads 'video can't be played' and then it gets deleted. :/

not sure lol. i just tried to install it but this is what i got (check the photo) . but in his video it showed the gmail app worked perfect. my phone isnt rooted at the moment so idk why it wont install.

FYI, one thing I've noticed about this zip is that it may install some apps in non-standard locations, such as gmail in system/app. Since this is different than other gapps packages (gmail is usually not included, so is installed via market to data/app), the CM backup script won't keep this from ROM flash to ROM flash unless you follow up with this app package flash again.

Anyone have any issues with the 4.2 Play store? I can't figure out why this is happening, but out seems only a handful of my apps are compatible. I had originally changed my LCD.density to 210, and then read that it had to be set to one of the non-custom numbers of 160 or 240, so I changed it to 160 (for fun), but it appears I have the exact same problem.
I never had an issue with the play store or apps requiring 160 or 240 (though I know some apps and games won't be compatible unless the LCD.density, the model, and manufacturer are changed in the build.prop file)... So the 160 or 240 setting seems incorrect.
Anyway, I have tried clearing data/cache for the play store, and the same thing for Google services framework (and reboot), but still have no change.
Could it be anything else in my build.prop file?
I am running Baked Black Bean (a JB 4.1.2 AOKP ROM).
Any thoughts or help are appreciated!

Don't like the keyboard. When I swipe, it wont show my swear words, such as ****, ****, ****, and so on, even though I saved the words to my dictionary. **** always shows as duck and I can never type ******. I will stick with Swype Hopefully Android will allow to swipe custom saved words in the future / official release.

I flash this rom on 4th system using BMM, its a pretty cool ROM with a lot of features though the camera app is missing. Can you pls include the superuser.apk in your next release, its missing, had to download from the store. Thanks for this cool ROM I hope you find a fix for the camera soon. :good:

Superuser is built in. You will find that in the settings.. And I too hope I fix the cam soon.. Just wait till all driver issues are solved and we have proper kexec kernel.. There's a lot that can be done..

Can we use altered's revert pa prefs zip to revert to the previous version of paranoid android preferences??...because the latests version is built for xhdpi devices..

I don't see why you can't.. From what I knew, replacing the pa prefs app was sufficient.. And I replaced it from pa itself. Guess that I missed something.. And which patch are you talking about exactly? Link? I ll include it in newer versions..

im having issues trying to get a data connection with this rom. it prompts to set up wifi for anything internet related. mobile data is enabled.
Ok, so i have followed the instructions exactly to install it on both the older build and the newer build, but I get stuck on the bootlogo.
I have tried installing on both system 1 and 3 multiple times, sometimes with gapps in the same session, sometimes I have tried to wait until after the first boot, but either way I get into an endless bootlogo. I've tried repairing permissions after flashing a few times. I've even tried flashing the BMM patches, even though this is made for BMM. I'm just not sure what the problem could be. My phone is one of the black-screen-on-kexec-install phones, but this does not use kexec, so that shouldn't have anything to do with it.
Anyone have any additional ideas or insight that might help?

Have you set up your APN yet?
You need that to be set up to let your phone know how to connect to your carrier's data, but they usually are not included in custom ROMs.
search for "android apn settings" or just "apn settings" to get instructions on how to do that (sorry, I can't post links yet).

What were you on before installing the ROM? Here is what I'd recommend,
FXZ to ICS. Root and install bmm from play store. Edit the recovery.fstab (search for it if required..). Install the ROM.

Make sure u factory reset first..you didnt mention that. Then flash. Seems to me you have the wrong gapps. Wrong gapps have caused me to bootloop. Pm me if you need the latest 4.2.2 gapps. Or search. Lol
Apns are set up. Mms and everything work. Still no data

I FXZed back, installed BMM, edited the recovery.fstab, got the latest gapps from goo(.)im (turns out they are the same ones I had been using), installed the ROM, and it still got stuck. I guess I'll just wait until a new build with bug fixes comes out and try that, until then I'll stick to CM10.1.

No no..dont edit any of the bmm files..thats why u are bootlooping. These roms are bmm only which means they are already compatible with bmm so dont edit files. Just wipe..flash rom/gapps and there u go. :good:

He means edit the recovery.fstab, which, yes, you do need to edit if you download BMM from the Play Store.

Hmm well im coming from PA recovery so thats why i never had to edit bmm. Thats what he can try doing.
I'm looking for a download for the s voice apk. I'm running slim bean 4.3 build 1. Any suggestions? I've tried the s4 port but I get the network connection error.

I'm not dev enough to know if it will work since you're running a 4.3 rom but you could try pulling the apk from another rom and see if it works.

Yes but therein lies the problem. I didn't pull the apk from the stock rom before I rooted and switched. I need a download link to someone who has uploaded but all I can find is the s4 version.

I just tried it, it works still, I just said hello to it, nothing big. However, after I installed it, I opened it, was in the "accept terms" activity, then pressed home. It forced closed when I returned to it. If that happens, clear the app data and open it again, but go through the full accepting prompt before you pause the app.
