GB leaked!!!!!would it unlock the bootloader?????

It's still not confirmed if the bootloader is unlocked but so far it seems like it's not. I'm still waiting to flash this as I want to be sure I can SBF back to Froyo if there are any issues.

It has been confirmed that flashing back to Froyo with the SBF after running the leaked GB update.zip is successful so there should be no issues trying out this update.

Great! I'll probably give this a try tonight once I get home. Also, regarding the original question, it's also been determined that the bootloader is NOT unlocked. Once we're able to root it (I don't think it'll take too long for someone to come up with a way to do it) I'll be happy.

TBH will have a rooted update.zip available very soon for this release...just need to finish tweaking the file and testing it.
And no, it doesn't unlock the bootloader...that was rabid speculation.

The new GB update doesn't root the HTC Desire. Desire Z and Wildfire it DOES root but not the Desire. For that you need the Revolutionary tool.

i guess u right. some of the posts though ,on d2g forums, gave a reason to believe that this might take us a step forward to b able unlocking it.

The update has a radio image in it. Can somebody who installed it say what radio version says?

So I noticed after flashing this build that the device encryption does not work .. Have not tried to encrypt the sd card but it keeps telling me device does not have enough memory and that I should clear some space by removing apps and there data. It says this even after a factory reset so I dunno. First known bug of this release I guess.

I installed GB on my Droid 2 Global and it's working great. The interface feels MUCH faster now, great audio quality, certain things like Manage Applications don't hang anymore, cool transition effects like when you slide the keyboard or switch back to the launcher... overall this thing is just AWESOME.

I have it installed since last night (running flawlesly so far btw). The baseband version says it's "N_01.79.0R". I don't know what the old one was though so I'm not sure if it is indeed different.

Battery life appears to be better to me but I haven't had had it for even a full day yet so my opinion might not be the most accurate, however, there are others that have also reported improved battery life. Nothing revolutionary but it does seem to be a bit better.

How to stop an OTA update?

Okay first off, i know this is the wrong section. I can not post in development because I am new here, but I am in need of help desperately. Okay so I am rooted on 1.85 and the bootloader is NOT unlocked. Well i decided today to take the update to 4.0.4 before I did research. (Stupid me eh?) Well I start the OTA and then do some research. I learn that the update to 4.0.4 might be harmful to rooted users. So I disconnect from WiFi knowing it will pause the download. Well now I have a download that is just paused in the notification bar, and any time i connect to wifi it will continue the download. While the download is paused, can i unroot and take the update safely? I have seriously been searching for hours on end to find someone with a situation that I am in and i can not.

If you do a factory reset the update will go away. But that would also make you loose root. You should unlock the bootloader, then flash the rooted 2.20 update from the dev section.

Yep, get that bootloader unlocked immediately and flash a rooted stock ROM or a custom ROM. Make sure you backup all your stuff with Titanium because the bootloader unlock will wipe your phone.
Also, just so you know, this thread most definitely did NOT belong in development, which is reserved for ROMs and kernels and root guides and the like ONLY. Threads like this belong in Q+A but nobody is gonna kill you for posting it in General.

After the download, you should get a prompt to either Install, Postpone, or you can press the "back" capacitive button to cancel. Cancel should stop the update notifications. At least this is how its worked on past HTC OTAs. I personally can't verify, as I haven't gotten the notification yet. But if you want to be safe, you should SuperCID and unlock bootloader first, as others have suggested. Pressing the wrong button for the method I suggested above will be catastrophic otherwise (lose the ability to root and unlock BL).

I just did a factory data reset on my phone. Honestly, I've gotten myself into trouble with rooting. I really need to read up before i continue with things of this sort. So since i did a factory data reset, am i 100% unrooted? Will i be safe to take the OTA now? Thanks for your help guys!

If you were stock 1.85, and rooted using the one-click or "manual" method (which you must be, if you you are still BL locked), then you are now unrooted. You are either rooted or not, there is no "percentage" of rooted.
What kind of trouble have you gotten into rooting, and what do you typically use root for?

I've been debating on whether or not to just go ahead and install the OTA to 2.2. The only thing I've used for root was for WiFi-Tether and I don't even use that anymore so I think I don't even necessarily NEED root anymore. I'm just tired of the updater telling me there's a new update to install - frankly very annoying. I've been just using the back capacitive button to cancel it. BUT, the last time I did this when 1.73 went to 1.85, I was just stock rooted, no unlocked BL (just like I am now), when I tried to install the OTA, went to that error with the triangle and exclamation point and wouldn't let me install it. I had to reflash to stock RUU because it was giving me a bootloop. I just don't want that to happen again... What does that triangle and exclamation point even really mean? I can't find a definitive answer on it. Shouldn't the OTA just install as normal, but it'll remove root in the process?

Red triangle and exclamation point is the stock recovery. This appears if something about the ROM is missing or corrupted. Not sure why this happened to you in that particular case. But installing OTAs on rooted phones is always a crap shoot. Sometimes it works, and you just lose root. Sometimes you boot loop or other things.

That's what I was afraid of. Actually, I remember trying to install the 2.2 OTA a few days ago as well. Same red triangle and exclamation point. This time wasn't a boot loop and I just rebooted again and ever since, just kept canceling the update. Not sure what's going on...

Is the update actually downloaded to your phone? You may need to locate and delete it.
It may be trying to install the OTA from recovery, which makes sense. Don't actually know what happens when an OTA installs.
I've never installed an OTA! I'm always rooted, always will be!!!!

Just to be sure.
I did a factory data reset the night of the problem, been good ever since! I have not done anything to the phone except install a few apps. Should i be okay to take the OTA now? Sorry i just really want to be sure. This is my 3rd phone is 3 months so... no second chances.

Okay, so i took a chance on the update. It worked! I will not be rooting anymore until i read up. Sorry guys if you feel this thread was unnecessary. Just an FYI to any who are worried about taking the newest update after a factory data reset, don't be! Thank you to all:highfive:

It's a little late for this probably but for future reference if you are rooted and want to stop receiving OTA updates remove/rename/delete HtcOMADM_ATT.apk and HtcOMADM_ATT.odex from system/apps, wipe cache and dalvik. If you want to remove "AT&T software update" from the "Settings" then remove HtcOMADM_SettingsPlugin_ATT.apk and HtcOMADM_SettingsPlugin_ATT.odex from system/apps, wipe cache and dalvik.

Looks like you will not be rooting anymore for a while now, since there is no method to root the 2.2 update. AT&T / HTC made sure the current rooting method won't work on it. Hopefully, the devs will eventually crack this one too.
I hope you knew that before making the dive ... I would have just unlocked the bootloader and flashed a ROM with the update baked into it to get the best of both worlds. But that's just me. I can't own an android without root access. To reach his own.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying and you are right. The current rooting method does not work with the new hboot. But.... If you have your bootloader unlocked beforehand you can still still get root after taking the OTA... And you can still flash a custom rom afterwards, from what I understand you would just need to fastboot flash the boot.img. I haven't personally tried it because I like staying fairly stock, just seriously cleaned up with some mods (init.d support, wifi/usb tethering, missing apps replaced). One thing I am curious about and to be honest I haven't spent any time researching the answer, what kernel are the roms using that are based on the 2.23 (4.0.4) Asian RUU? I wonder because I know the combination of the AT&T 2.20 (4.0.4) update with the new kernel and radio is working very, very well on my phone! My quadrant went up 800 points and battery life is still ridiculously good! I also have to agree with "I can't own an android without root access" especially on AT&T. Personally I'm good to go until the Jelly Bean update! Decisions, decisions! :laugh:

I've never installed an OTA, so I wouldn't know either. Honestly, I don't know why one would do that, when the awesome devs here post ROMs with the latest OTAs and root prebaked into them. There are "modded" ROMs and "stock" (or close to stock) ROMs available to everyone's taste.

Right now, I'm running CleanROM 4.5, which is based on the 2.23 RUU. I did install the 2.20 radio, thinking it would work better, since I'm on AT&T. I took a screenshot of the kernel screen for you.

Where was your improvement? Did the increase happen in the aspect/area that directly affects your daily use, or in some esoteric algorithm that the phone all of a sudden processes faster? I used to go crazy on quadrant scores, but now I don't really understand their value/accuracy. As long as the phone feels buttery smooth while lasting 5+ hours of screen time, I'm happy!

Hi, do you think you could point me in the right direction for this? I found the general thread on radios, but am at a total loss about what it means or what to do with it!

You knew this was the wrong section but posted here anyway? Not a good way to start your membership on XDA. First rule of thumb is to search before creating a thread. Dual boot ICS leak and SCV7

After a few days of trolling around, I finally made the leap of faith and installed the ICS leak to my A2, then upgraded to SCV7. It was actually my first custom rom install. I've had root since owning the A1, but never installed a custom rom, or done anything more than upgrading OTA from the manufacturer. So needless to say it was a harrowing experience, lol, but I got through it and am now proudly running SCV7.
My question is, since the ICS leak is a stock Motorola rom, technically, will it work to install it alongside SCV7 using Bootmenu's second system feature? I'm going to guess not, as from what I can tell, the ICS leak needs the official bootloader (ie, not hijacked by Bootmenu.) And of course I figure if I were to try to install it via the stock bootloader it would overwrite SCV7... or worse. I'm obviously pretty new at this, but I'm learning, and just want to make sure I have all the information on everything before I try something. Hours and hours of reading got me enough confidence to do the upgrade and the custom rom install without a hitch. That being said, I HAVE searched and searched (like the new member video said... yes I watched it. That was hilarious) to see if anyone has tried this, and can't find anything. I'm kind of assuming it's something that is considered common knowlege (ie somebody's going to say well of course you cant do that dummy) but that I've overlooked.
Alternatively, could I revert back to the stock ICS leak rom, and then install SCV7 via Bootmenu's second system feature? That seems more likely to work, from what I can tell. However, if I can do it the other way, I'd much rather, as I have my phone nice and set up the way I like it lol.

I'm running SCv7 on my second system, but if you wanted the stock rom on it, you would restore a stock backup to it.

So I could restore a stock backup to the second system with no problems, just like a custom rom? I just want to make sure there won't be a problem since it is a stock rom.

Yes, as long as you have formatted your webtop and the backup is under 1.3 gigabytes (never seen a backup anywhere close to that) there should be no reason it won't work.

Works like a charm! I didn't think that, being a stock rom, it would be so easy.
Alas though, it's not, as I can't seem to get enough space free to install any apps. Gotta read up more in the original bootmenu thread I guess. It says there's a fix, but so far it's greek to me. Back to researching.
EDIT: Hm, I reinstalled it, formatting the /webtop partition first, and it has 600mb now. Enough to get by I guess. Probably need to switch the stock rom to the first system and the SCV7 to the second system. Depends on which one I end up using more, which will mostly be determined by which one has better battery life.

Windmobile 2.3.6 GS4G won't root

Superclick won't root. It goes through a bunch of stuff, does the sleep, sends the zerlings, sleeps, sends more, then the software freezes at the end with the window "not responding" and the phone isn't rooted. Trying a shell root first, it goes through the same stuff, sames something about blue flames, then goes back to letting me click buttons.
Is 2.3.6 not rootable?

Have you tried using ODIN to flash one of the rooted kernels?

I know there is that option or the option of the One-Click to install a new room, but since their is some debate if the bootloader of the Wind version is different than that of the T-Mobile that all the stock kernels are based on, I'm still searching and reading first to see.

Well was looking through some of the tut's and the one was how to do flash with no bootloaders via the phone, but needed root.
....So, If I use the 1 click in your link and run the jar file, that will flash me to a stock rom that is rooted with the clockwork recovery correct? I don't need to run the 1 click again and flash the bootloader for any reason to get the above?
Then from there, I can flash any cm7/cm9/acid/stripped down/whatever rom I want?
There is no way to backup my current system as is though, correct, because once I go through the 1 click, I'm flashing the stock bare bones rom to it?
I have no problem flashing and have done other phones and modded thousands of game consoles, but want to be sure this goes well. I've had the phone for a total of 30 hours and don't want to toast it.......but I like to tinker. lol.

Meh. Already bit the bullet and did it and booting your ICS as I type this. lol. The phone is 36 hours old, that's old enough to be modded isn't it?

Now I did the 1 click, went to recovery, did a backup of my system at that point, installed your ICS, gapps, fixxed permissions, etc, etc. Now If I want to go back to the 2.3.6, I can restore my backup right? that is going to be as close as I could get, which I would have to run the wireless fix to get wireless working since the 1 click installer's stock rom is very basic.

i was in the same boat as you i try three different version of SOC and finaliy manage root it with superoneclickv2.3.1-shortfuse.the only thing i notice was when it was installing root it stalled in step 5-6 and then it did it i got root.also make sure u have OEM cable for your phone

No you will have to flash the one click again. Just dont flash bootloaders. In your case make sure you always flash the roms for the sgh-t959v/w otherwise your liable to have a paperweight. Unless you can get a mini keis tarball for bhundven from wind mobile tech support.
If you like to tinker and think you might be able to get them to do this hop on irc before downloading the stuff. That way bhundven can walk you through getting it to him so he can perform surgery and compare the bootloaders.

Is there anyway to tell if a ROM has bootloaders or not? I've only been looking at "V" roms anyways from the list of SGS4G roms on the wiki, so think I'm safe there, just not sure about how to tell if they have a bootloader or not?
So far, the cyan/ICS/Team Acid one is working pretty good. Wifi was boinked and wouldn't authenticate any connections but a factory reset from within Android fixed that and been rock solid since.

As long as you are flashing the rom via cwm your safe. However flashing using heimdall or odin sometimes has bootloaders included. The one clicks include bootloaders but you have to check the option and then there is a secondary confirmation you have to click on. So again just flashing back to stock without touching the flash bootloaders option you are safe.

Wifi seems to be going wonky again with the ICS. Not connecting after a while. Better rom's to try or just a known issue or something I can try or do?

Best thing to do is get some logs for bhundven to look at. I use cm9 currently and wifi like 90% of the day. and I dont have problems with wifi.

Replaced my older router with a new one, was still having issues but reset all the ddrwrt settings to stock, re-setup the wireless step by step, testing on phone and laptop each step of the way and seems to be going good so far, full wifi bars, connected at 54mb. Now to move the N router from the basement so I can get N speeds. lol.

The wifi on the phone only does 2.4GHz N-mode.
The only phone I've noticed 5GHz N-mode on is the galaxy note 2 (so far).

Ok, I'll make sure to set the router for 2.4ghz mode when I set it up. Thanks for all the work on this and the help in the threads you've answered in. guess I just got freaked over the whole bootloader thing, but I have a good handle on hows it's working now somewhat anyways. Everything is going pretty good and I like being able to use Chrome now, with the desktop sync tabs and stuff. Can pickup in another room what I was doing on my PC and stuff. Pretty cool. I'll check out how the GPS works compared to the stock rom was today, but wifi seems to ok since I replaced that old crappy router. Good thing about running your own electronics repair stuff, always another router somewhere in a box. lol.

[Q]How can I go back to ICS from JB?

My wife recently updated her phone via wifi to JB from ICS and her phone is damn near unusable. She wants to throw it out on the freeway. Her phone since the update is sluggish, and a constant headache for her. Her phone is stock, and unrooted. Do I need to root it in order to go back to ICS? Sorry in advance if this has been asked before.

You could flash in an ICS factory image using the built-in recovery (or at least I seem to remember doing something like it). But before anything, you need to know which variant of the phone you're dealing with (i9020a/i9020t/i9023/etc.) Just turn off the phone and check below the battery for the exact model. Once you have that, I (or somebody else around here) can link you to the right image for the device. :laugh:

Oh, there seem to be no full recovery-flashable images for the NS4G. You could install a full image using fastboot but that would require unlocking your phone's bootloader (which more or less voids any warranty) and would also wipe all the data. If you're not particularly attached to all the data in the phone, you could try a factory reset to see if JB problems get resolved. Otherwise, maybe some other forum member might have a better idea.

OK, thank you. I'm about to go to sleep, and I'll ask her in the morning how she feels about the phone being wiped. In the meantime, maybe others can shed some info also. Again, thanks for the replies.

My wife and I both have the NS4g from Sprint, but our approach as to how we use the device is very different. She doesn't like change, simply wants the parts of the system that she uses, to work ... mainly tethering, mms, camera, phone. If your wife is anything like mine ... make your life a little easier, and just root the phone. It will give you so much more flexibility and choices. About a week ago, OMJ posted a stock, rooted rom in the NS4g development thread that would be perfect for her. It's all there ... smooth ... quick ... everything works.

i think before trying anything that could avoid your warranty you should do a factory reset ... it probably could solve all your wife issues ... it will just delete all your app but not photo or documents ( unless you select that option ) and you could after reinstall just the really needed apps your wife need ...

@wmdunn - She mainly uses her camera as well.
@kriout - doing a factory reset will still give her back JB tho wouldn't it? I'll ask her just to try it, and if it still runs slow, I guess root it?

The camera software in JB is really nice. As for rooting ... I have rooted every phone we've owned, and never had any problem with warranty issues. The rooted versions of the stock JB rom are smoother and quicker than the ota.

reinstall the stock image via fastboot, u will get a buttery smooth experience

Unfortunately, she is going to just deal with it and doesn't want to redo all the game play she has worked for for the last year. Thank you for all your input, I'll be sure to recheck this thread should she change her mind and re-read your help.
