Latest Google Maps Update Causing Reboots - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Has anyone else had random reboots with the latest version of Maps that was released on 8/16/2012? I know over in the AOKP thread we have:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30327622&postcount=1518
I wanted to mention it here, because I noticed other reviews on the Play store mentioning the same problem. If anyone else is having the issue, you can get the previous version of the Maps app here and sideload it until Google gets this resolved:
http://www.iapktop.com/google-maps-6-9-2.html

I'm running CleanRom 4.5 DE final and haven't had any problems with the latest update. I know it doesn't help the problem, but it would be nice for everyone to sound off and compile a list of the roms having issues.

Yeah, I appreciate it. So far it seems pretty random. I've read that a variety of HTC devices with a variety of ROMs (including stock) have the issue, with at least one person reporting an issue with a Motorola device.

I am on CM10 and haven't had any issues with the new update. I haven't actually used maps much, possibly at all(?), but I haven't had any problems. I'll update if I start to use it and get issues.

Try opening it and see if you get a reboot and let us know.

Had serious battery drain after updating maps. The solution was to delete and redownload.. all has been well since then on cm10/nocturnal

Hmm, maybe it's the new Smart App Updates causing problems.

I did get a reboot while using it to nav. I had to pull over and load this one to continue my drive.. I'm on CM9 at the moment.

Just had it happen to me on ics aokp

[Q] Stability of CM10?

I was running CM10 back in the day when it was not yet officially hosted by the CM team and I I went back to stock since there were a couple issues with the video recorder and other things. I see now that CM10 is officially being hosted by the CM team but they are still nightly, but I still would like to give it another go around. I was just wondering if there what are the major issues with the ROM right now (if any)?
The first posts don't really tell much except "it's a major work in progress" and the official change log might as well be gibberish to me, and I'm definitely not about to go through all 500+ pages, so if someone would give me a brief summary of what is/isn't working it would be much appreciated!

Its definitely daily driver ready. Just some wake locks making it not have as good battery life as sense. But everything else works great. The build bot has been broken since 10/12 so when the next official nightly comes out, it should have a bunch of new things... Maybe new kernel?

Sweet, I might just have to flash it again since I usually have a charger handy with me so battery life isn't a huge a concern. I'm sort of confused by what you mean about the next official nightly... I thought nightlys were released every... well night?

The night lies have been down because some changes were made to the code upstream that causes the Evita build to fail. They're working on the kernel fixes to get the night lies to compile again but apparently its very involved.

There was an experimental one posted today
my wifi doesn't crap out on the experimental nightly which was my only issue with 10/12
One should always read at min the last 10 pages of a thread of a Rom you might flash, an really it's expected of anyone.

Just a heads up dont know if anyone else is having this problem.
I rooted my 2.2 with the new 2.2 root instructions and downloaded the latest (10/25:experimental[cm-10-20121025-EXPERIMENTAL-evita.zip ]) cm10 build, everything works great, even wifi, except MOBILE data. I'm on straight talk, and man im getting slow speeds, nothing changed to APN, i think its a radio problem. anyone got any suggestions? I attached the radio link, which radio should i flash?

Praise for TwistedUmbrella 4.04 ROM - New Lease on Life for My Thunderbolt

Regarding Twistedumbrella 4.04 Rom found here:
I've never donated to a developer (shame on me) but I just did for this one. I really want to keep my Thunderbolt going cause I'm off contract and have an unlimited data plan. Like some are reporting, the most recent builds of this ROM gave me a boot loop and I can't run them, but anyone considering trying this rom I encourage you to try the 12/06 edition at the link below. This 12/06 installed for me and ran just fine, and I am SO pleased at the increased speed AND battery life that I perceive I am getting. This ROM is not loaded with the HTC sense overhead, and things seem much snappier all around. I was about to ditch my Thunderbolt because things had slowed to molasses using the original BAMF 4.04 rom, but this one is working great!
Here's the link (copied from the thread linked above)
THANK YOU TWISTEDUMBRELLA
I too would like to join in and say thanks to twisted. His rom is the only thing that is keeping me on the Tbolt. I am one of the few with a model that gets bootloops from the newer versions but 12/06 works great for me.
I'm grateful too...

I too am grateful for the twisted ROM. I also have the boot loops on versions younger than 12/06. I also have the serial number ending in "A". However, my Bolt is working quite well with the 12/06 ROM!
Thanks Twisted!

What 4ext recovery version are you using? I'm using rc8 and all his builds boot fine. Hall is using rc5 and doesn't get them either. I'm just curious if the rc9 version of the recovery has a bug that is causing the boot loops.

As mentioned in the Dev section thread, the bootloops coincide with a certain version of hardware of the Tbolt. Specifically, those with a TBolt with a model number ending with an "A" are affected by the bootloops. It doesn't have anything to do with the recovery software.
Bingo. I pulled my battery to check the serial number and yes indeed, mine ends "A." But like is also mentioned above, my 12/06 rom is running VERY well, so I'm completely happy where I am.
But thanks for pointing this out -- that saves me a lot of time from being tempted to play with the recovery software or partitions or anything else.

That still doesn't take away from the fact that the recovery could be causing the problem. It's possible that whatever is different with the hardware could have an affect on the recovery as well.

Good point, nonetheless it seems there may be a work around of restoring just the boot data from a earlier (12/06) version of the rom will make the newer ones work while sacrificing the camera (it stops working).
Update: (don't want to keep adding off-topic posts) The work around worked for me without any problems (camera worked) when going from 12/06 to 12/19. Also the new 12/28 update doesn't bootloop for me.
But for a majority of tbolt usrs if u got a p/n ending with an "A", "B" and you experience any issues i.e. bootloops I caution you to stay away from ics for now until something stable comes out if it ever will. Lol!
For those with p/n "C", "XC" etc happy flashing. Seems these experience random reboots at some point but do not have major issues as the ones above.
Just thot I'd put this out there for those going thro bootloops and its driving them nuts!

I cannot believe anyone actually used the BAMF ICS rom for more than 5 mins. that rom is full of so much wack. Never had any bootloops with any of Twisted builds and ive tried pretty much all of them since day one. TWRP...
a bit of info on this particular bootloop for those not following the thread:
-flashing a previous working boot partition from recovery seems to get you past the loop (e.g. flash new rom, restore boot from 12/06 backup)
-alternatively, the 12/28 version on page 28 of the thread works with no loop on my particular hardware. i think twisted is still working on a final build though, which could potentially return to bootlooping if he hasn't isolated the problem.

HA! I deserved that, vice versa. I know enough to be dangerous to myself most of the time but that's about it. The BAMF rom looked so much prettier I stayed with it but it ended up a nightmare, as you suggest. I'm now almost on my 24th hour of the 12/06 rom and no spontaneous resets at all, MUCH better batter life, MUCH snappier in general, and I am MUCH happier with my thunderbolt! Presumably there's things that need to be improved past 12/06, but I'm not so much of a power user (obviously) even to have found them.

If you liked the bamf leak then try NuSense out. It is a fantastic rom that uses parts from it and a desire hd rom. For a snappier version that is more stable than the aosp rom try unsense.

Hey guys I have run into a problem I would appreciate any comments on -- I've been all over the internet reading about the failure of Google Maps/Navigation to read street names in Andriod 404 without finding anything that helps me. I already had Ivona voice installed, and I even installed SVOX to see if that what help, but the app refuses to use anything but the standard voice, and it never gives street names, just "turn right, turn left" etc.
I've done all the clear data and cache suggestions and that isn't helping.
Does anyone know if a fix was developed that I can apply using this 12/6 ROM? other than that this rom is working great for me, and I suspect the problem isn't in the rom itself. I'd even gladly download an older version of the MAP apk if I could find it - I don't use the advanced MAP features at all.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Really, I been only getting the random reboots, however I am on the leaked ICS radio.
Maybe I should switch back to the stock .19 radio.... Unless the new HTC ICS radio comes out soon with this update.
Does anyone know where the radio forum went too?

Audio playback causes device to reboot

At first I thought it was a rom issue, but it happens to be on every 4.2.2 rom I've tried. Then I thought it was a kernel issue - until I tried nitros rom which is blur based 4.1.2.
The problem? I drive a lot, the ability to use apps such as beyond pod, mlb at bat (to listen to my tigers!), tune in radio etc. Is very important to me. If I download a podcast and begin to play it, it's only a matter of time before my phone freezes up and reboots. Same for the other apps I mentioned. Usually it takes less than 5 minutes for my phone to freeze / reboot.
This has happened to me for a while now, and it does seem to get worse on certain roms / nightlies, but virtually across the board, the result is the same. I have tried carbon, liquid smooth, xenon hd, as well as nitros roms.
I am very frustrated at the moment, as I have no real options other than going back to stock, which sucks because I am in love with so many of the features available with the aforementioned custom roms. Any help or feedback would be appreciated!
Edit: meant to post this in help section, I apologize

I am on his newest nightly as we speak, it seems to be better, I have only had 1 occurrence of the phone locking up while listening to a podcast. Moto does know about this, I am having the same issue, and the latest update (the OTA leaking around here) has that listed as one of the fixes. Does not say specific scenarios, but just "reboot issues mitigated". This will be my first full day running it, and I have alot of driving to do, so i'll know in the next couple hours if Moto happened to fix it.

Will do, have had reboots at least once a day since the JB upgrade, so far since yesterday none.. will update later tonight on how it went, should have at least one by then if its not fixed.
Im just hoping whatever moto did can be used to stabilize the AOSP roms too, because audio playback reboots me on those even more than stock did.
Update: I think Moto did it, I drove 70 miles with music playing the whole time and not one reboot. Very impressed, have never gone that long, cept when the phone was on ics..

Awesome! Hopefully the 4.2.2 roms will benefit soon. The two main culprits for me have been listening to to podcasts (beyondpod) and mlb at bat, but I have also noticed watching videos on YouTube can cause the reboots as well, though it takes a video of a decent length to recreate the problem.
Also, there are times I go an hour without a lockup, but once I get one, they begin to occur more frequently. Just my observations. Maybe I'll try the update, what's the easiest way to flash? I'm assuming I need stock recovery etc?

Yeah need stock recovery, and need a sdcard because stock recovery wont read internal memory
After that, if you need to re install recovery and re root gotta do it with adb and fastboot, because the auto utils dont work right anymore, was going nuts thinking things got patched up until I tried it manually and it worked, lol.

Bluetooth A2DP seems to have improved with the 7/15 skrilax build (.86 kernel) but I still have cases where it reboots. Appears to be related to the phone trying to mux a second stream. For instance, streaming music to my car's headunit, then start Waze app and when it goes to announce something, phone reboots.
And for me, using N38 (.84 kernel) with the latest nightlies seemed to make the phone laggy.

Random Apps Killed.

Hi all,
Since yesterday night my phone has been getting REALLY nasty... It basically kills apps randomly (generally apps not in the android market I think... but may be not related). I open the app, and after a few seconds the app is closed and the nasty message "XXX app was closed" (In spanish, so don't know exactly which is in english exactly).
I don't know if it is related only to cyanogen mod (I'm running CM10.2 on HTC one S. S-off) or to any kind of update on the android market or something... but the use of my cell phone is now horribly restricted.
I checked it is not related to the apps, because I deleted/reinstalled/used older versions and nothing was changed.
Does anyone have the same problem? Does anyone know a solution?
Thank you!

I suggest you using cm11 now is much better compared to cm10.2 and are you on kernel 3.4? cause i had it on the 3.0.8 kernel.
If you prefer cm10.2 i suggest you reinstalling the latest version available from the scratch with a clean install. This always solves issues if they are not related the the ROM itself. If the issue remains let me know i will try to help you!

I suggest you using cm11 now is much better compared to cm10.2 and are you on kernel 3.4? cause i had it on the 3.0.8 kernel.

I am always a bit reluctant to use non stable releases... as I'm not a "pro" user and I just want to have something usable...
Is it really working well CM11 on HTC One S? It's kind of cool that we can still get new versions with our "old" phone...
I re-installed CM 10.2 from scrath and the problem seems to have dissapeared... but I just cannot understand what was the problem... and It's a bother if CM users need to reinstall everything from time to time...
Thank you for your help!

CM11 is working well on One S but i've not tested it since I'm on Beanstalk 4.4 based on cm. Maybe some apps was conflicting normally clean installs are required only if you want to update your ROM.
There's no problem man You're welcome.
have a nice day again.

Official CM11 freezing, restarting etc. Heelllp

Don't really know where else to ask this, the cyanogenmod forums are dead and no one replies so I'll try my luck here.
I'm running the unified build of XT926 that is
2014-05-14-NIGHTLY-moto_msm8960
bootloader is Unlocked
But since early April late march, I've been having a big problem with the builds crashing, freezing, restarting, notification and navigation bar locking up disappearing and reappearing.
I'm actually to the point where I'm fed up. I know these are nightly builds and I shouldn't really be complaining but damn, everything was working fine before April and cyanogenmod seems to delete old builds now after maybe a week of them being up, so I can't return to a build that's before April.
I've tried completely wiping the phone and re flashing CM11 but no luck.
Any suggestions? I'm just really tempted just to flash stock and be done with it. lol but then my phone would probably be hella slow again with all the crap Verizon throws on it.
Is this just happening to me? Or anyone else on official cm11 having similar or the same problems as well?

It's a known problem. Read this thread to keep up on it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2518701&page=47
Devs are currently trying to troubleshoot/fix it.

Thank you, well I'm glad I'm not the only one having this issue, hopefully everything gets sorted. I'll keep that thread bookmarked.
Thank you again.

This test build from kabaldan has been working great for a few users in the CM11 thread (been running it myself, also):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52626501
It's not a permanent fix, but was made to help determine what was causing the lags and freezes. Keep up with that thread for CM11 progress (same thread that killrythm09 linked to).

Thank you!! Very helpful!
Question, do I flash it over the build I'm running now? Or should I do a fresh install?

The update to Kit Kat actually is pretty darned smooth, either under Dalvik or ART (caution - ART is still "beta" and not all apps work with it, including Xposed framework, CoPilot GPS, and I'm sure other apps as well).
I've been running KK since the soak test was sent to me and it's been running pretty smooth. Sometimes it get's a little laggy but that's after I've left the phone on for a few days and a reboot clears it right up.
There really isn't THAT much bloat on this phone (as opposed to say when I had the Droid X2 or even the Droid RAZR).

I'll have to check it out then. I moved from stock to CM because there was a noticeable lag on jellybean but if kit Kat fixes that then I'm up for trying it out
Thanks!
