Hey everyone,
So we have tried almost every way from Sunday to unlock the bootloader ourselves I think it is time to enlist the services of an expert.
They did it for the Verizon SGS 3 and the droid bionic, had one as well.
If we are lucky we might be able to get ours unlocked too.
So I am starting a bounty to get this done. If you are interested post here, and make a post of what you will donate:
I will update this post with the donations as they are posted. The bounty will MUST be paid to the person who gets the BL unlocked, not me or anyone else. If you post an amount that you will pay make sure you have those funds available at any time to pay out. You may also give a time limit when you post how much you are willing to donate. These donations must be in US dollars.
Requirements to Receive Bootloader Unlock Bounty
1) Be first person to create (or find from another source) a method of permanently unlocking the bootloader (being able to load a non-moto kernel is a requirement of this unlock)
2) PM me with the following:
3) Proving it works with appropriate photos or screenshots
4) Providing full step-by-step instructions for which anyone else can follow
5) Wait for another member to follow the method and confirm it works
6) Claim your bounty via PM from donator(s)

I will even give you a hint: There is a NS bootloader in the AT&T US version of the ICS leak, the person that can figure out how to get that to flash and not brick will be well on their way to getting this Bounty

Hey guys, great VZW deal. I bought two and I am planning on using it when I get my nexus: https://share.livingsocial.com/deals/178420?ref=conf-jp&rpi=37359258
the fine print
Limit one voucher per purchaser • Valid starting Tuesday 11/29 • Entire value of each barcode may only be used once • Minimum purchase of $25 required • Valid for devices or accessories only • Subject to in-stock availability • Valid for Verizon Wireless retail locations or telesales purchases only; not valid for online purchases or use at Authorized Retailers • Not valid for Verizon employees, business accounts, or towards payment of bills • Visit www.verizonwireless.com/storelocator/ to locate the closest Verizon Wireless retail store • Other conditions apply • PAID VALUE EXPIRES ON November 26, 2016 • PROMOTIONAL VALUE EXPIRES ON December 31, 2011
yeah, so you have to use it by end of the year and can't use it online.

No, it says "Limit one voucher per purchaser" which means you can only buy one cert. I bought one and my wife bought one. Even if they only let you use one at a time, I will use one for the phone and one for the accessories.
Its still a great deal.
So I could walk into a Verizon store, and use this to pay $50 for any off-contract phone?

The deal was still on as of a couple second ago. I used the OPs link to order so hopefully you made your 3. It ends at 5AM EST on 11/29/11.
---------- Post added at 04:55 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:52 AM ----------
Not to hijack your thread but if you reach your 3 and others still get the chance I would be very grateful to anyone who could use my link as well. https://share.livingsocial.com/deals/178420?ref=conf-jp&rpi=37557354
If you don't use it by 12/31/11, it retains a value of $25 until 2016 if you read the fine print, so as long as you use it in the next 4-5 years, you aren't loosing anything, but you will gain $25 if you use it before the end of the year.
I am hopeful for a Galaxy Nexus release by the end of the year. My wife and I each bought one and we are planning to buy two GN and a car dock.

I've been researching different warranties and insurances and mainly looking at now at Ensquared and NegriCare. Both offer regular warranty against defects, and accidental damage. They both also cover lost and stolen. I haven't seen that many reviews or threads about these two, does anyone have any experience in these two companies?
I have no experience with either of these, but are these cheaper than the VZW sanctioned one? I guess what I'm getting at is why bother- if you want insurance just buy the VZW sanctioned version, that way at least you can give verizon crap if you have warranty issues. Just one man's humble opinion...

Verizon gives zero support on the insurance they hock. The insurance is provided by Assurion, if you file a claim you won't spend a second dealing with Verizon. Assurion is a horrible company completely devoid of any integrity. I know several people who have worked in their corporate FP&A, and after speaking about the company with insiders, it would be impossible for me to think less of the organization. If your choice is between burning your money and giving it to Assurion, find a match.
Ensquared is backed by Global Warranty Group... I have them and let me tell ya.. claim filed on 8-17 phone recieved on 8-22 however... I had the 32gb insured and they sent me a brand new in box 16gb... now I'm awaiting a shipment of the actual 32gb... but all in all they are a bbb a+ company .. I am not affiliated with them in any way.. but I am documenting my whole ordeal with them through way of recorded phone calls as well as vlogging my experiences.. I'll update this post with the links once it is all resolved.. but as I stated I got my phone within the allotted time they processed the claim

As long as you don't lose your phones, and more accident-proned, the Best Buy Geek Squad Protection is probably the best bet, albeit only if you bought the device from them.
No deductible--unlimited claims.

I'd have to agree with this. Now I do work for best buy but even if I didn't I would recommend it. It covers everything but lost or stolen and you can do 9.99 a month or 180 for a full 2 years. Even though I have this on my phone I also have Verizons TEP just in case my phone gets stolen or lost because that has happened to me in the past.
have you looked into a rider on you homeowners (if its offered) no questions asked cash payout (for the amount you insured the phone for) only $30 per year for a $600.00 policy from Farm Bureau

Cheaper since its a fixed amount to pay up front and a low deductible while VZW you go through Assurion, monthly payments and a high deductible.

Doesnt sound all that great. You can get something like global warranty group that has been mentioned for 119.99 or less for 2 years of coverage with $75 deductables that will cover you for lost, stolen, or damaged. If anyone is interested in picking it up I am a dealer for them in Delaware and will provide discounts to anyone who contacts me through the site. $107 to insure your phone for 2 years against everything can't be beat.
Bought my phone via Walmart and bought their insurance. The policy seemed pretty solid. I guess I really can't judge it one way or the other until an issue arises.

Well with best buy there is no deductible
If you buy the two year plan from best buy, it seems to be about the same price as it is from Assurion. I guess it comes down to would you rather have no deductible, or peace of mind if you were to ever lose it or have it get stolen.

Happy flashing!!
*Update 10/24/2012*
Please post your confirmation numbers in this thread, and I will continue to add your confirmation numbers to the main list so we can check off everyone who has pledged.
I think a reasonable expectation is to have everyone who has pledged donate their pledged amount within 2 weeks, that should cover a pay check cycle for most everyone.
Thanks!

Taking over the bounty thread for gunnyman. Original donations and first post are below, and have added a couple new donations as well.
*Further Clarification* This is just a continuation of the original bounty thread, I will just be maintaining this thread since gunnyman no longer has a OXL.
I've resisted doing another bounty for Root, but enough of you have been asking me to start one so here it is.
Only pledge if you plan on paying up!
Only pledge unconditionally, no "50 bucks if by next Tuesday but 10 bucks for any time"
Root method must be easily repeatable by the average XDA reader and not require a soldering gun
I will be the final judge regarding bounty pay out.

I promised pwnyourace a Photon Q this week and had it not been for a family member dropping her Epic and it not being worth replacing, I gave my sister my second Photon Q. But I'm not one to break promises, and while money isn't exactly the easiest commodity at the house I live in to come by I do have at the moment $60 to put towards getting another phone for you my friend. Perhaps even more to send out to one or more developers that visit this section and I'm wondering would anyone else be willing to contribute a donation to the cause? Hell even a dollar would help, if I see any kind of interest in this, which does seem promising so far especially since I'm just an average user and I'm willing to drop a decent amount of money on this if others would help chip in.
How should i do this? I know this might be the wrong section so if it is Mods can you please put this where it does belong? Or if there is a dev right now that wants to upgrade but is short on cash, maybe I can help there too. Most importantly, however, I wantr to admit that I broke my promise to pwnyourace. I am not ashamed of the choice I have made (and I would do it again, family always comes first), and I STILL want to help out in any way I can. So I guess i"m asking if either pwnyourace wants to upgrade through sprint and I/we can help finance it OR maybe we can strike a deal with some devs and we can fund devices for those who need them in exchange for a promise to put in X amount of hours into development for said device.
If no one else wants to participate or is unable, I will add another $10-20 a week to my Photons4Devs fund and when there's enough in there you will receive a phone to work with, so worst case sceanario it might be mid-late march when it arrives.
I have $75 so far for a photon Q fund. anyone want to sell one ? I will pay and you ship it to pwnyourace.
Let's help out guys everyone wants software but no one wants to help people get us there.
I'll throw in $10. New development is always good though I'm more than happy with pwnyourace's modded ROM
I´ll also support this with 20$.
count me on.. will give $10 for this project.. any PayPal account?

Your "Donate to me" button isn't working. PM me a valid paypal account and I'll drop $30 in the hat.
I'll happily throw in $10 if you pm me or post a valid paypal account, too
I pm'ed pwnyourace to see if he has a PayPal we can send the donations too or if we should just find one for sale and PayPal the seller. Anyone have any other ideas? Seems like there's at least $100 so far so that should be enough. I'll check online tonight and see if any are available for that price.
If you can find a battery I got one with a bad ESN that I'm doing the gsm mod to before trying it on mine... But it won't have a battery since the battery on mine broke if you can find a battery for it its all yours

Thats great! But finding battery is not a piece of cake... The only one I found is there http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-motorola-photon-q-4g-lte-xt897-battery-eb41.html and its 33$ + 15$ shipping... maybe it would be wiser to buy photon q from ebay with broken screen, ive seen some before for around 50$....
solution maybe?
if everyone keeps their Word there are $155 dollars here in play, there is an auction for a ¨Good condition¨ Photon Q for $140 + $12.35 shipping
I´m willing to throw $10 through paypal if we can buy this phone. Auction is still open for 6 more days and its a buy it now... here is the link

They no longer have them on Swappa
I decided getting an extra battery for the extra phone was the cheapest route for us so I ordered it. I should have it in two weeks as soon as I get it I will send the phone off to him.I cant wait for more to be done with this phone.
Hey guys I will create a paypal account tonight and update the information and post a link here, I am at $90 right now towards the photon Q fund so I'll get one locally or if i get $200 i will use mjy sprint 2 year upgrade and get a brand new one sounds good?
Sorry I've been away for a little bit and i'm back home now ready to help our little community out.
dear bros..
any news for this issue? just let me know the paypal account or link so I could donate the fund..
@zvonkorp
sounds good if we could have a new one..
Mines up for grabs if anyone has an old evo or something they could give me. Certainly cheaper than buying a new phone.
EDIT: and both were sold via swappa. Buyers will be the people with the official OUDHS recovery on their photon q
My upgrade is due in may and I will give my phone to any dev.

Hello, Xaikar!
Xaikar2:12 PM
Hello
Julia A2:12 PM
I see that you are experiencing an issue with device and would like to get Black Friday deal.
Xaikar2:13 PM

Xaikar2:14 PM
Actually $200 off
Xaikar2:14 PM

Julia A2:14 PM
Xaikar, I would like to inform you that the Black Friday promotion is going live on Nov 22, 2018.
Julia A2:15 PM
You can place an order for the phone during the offer period.
Xaikar2:16 PM
Really so I am having issues with my current device and I placed the order of the phone within the return window and I am still out of luck?
Julia A2:17 PM
Just to confirm have you processed return request for the device?
Xaikar2:17 PM
Yes I have still waiting for the RMA to show up
Julia A2:17 PM
Oh I see.
Julia A2:18 PM
Could you please help me with the order ID to pull up the details?
Xaikar2:18 PM
Order #GS.0000-0000-0000

Xaikar2:20 PM
Sure thing
Julia A2:21 PM
I have gone through your order details and I would like to inform you that you can return the device and place order on Nov 22, 2018, to get this deal.
Julia A2:21 PM
Thank you for staying connected.
Xaikar2:21 PM
So just want to make sure I am reading this correctly
Julia A2:22 PM
In this regards you need to refuse the delivery for the replacement device and once you refuse it let us know, we will initiate a request for return and help you accordingly.
Xaikar2:22 PM
Instead of just giving me a credit or something else you want me to instead. Return the phones and order them again. Taking up everyone's time and resources and shipping time etc.
Julia A2:22 PM
I absolutely understand what you are saying, Xaikar.
Julia A2:23 PM
I really wish I could have an option to provide you price adjustment for this.
Xaikar2:23 PM
Your method is a total waste of everyone's time and resources.
Xaikar2:23 PM
Its a MASSIVE discount too, its not like it went down $50 it came down $200
Julia A2:23 PM
Since, this is a special event promotion we do not have an option to provide price adjustment.
Xaikar2:24 PM
Just to be clear as day. You want me to.
Return the RMA, Return the original Device
Return the Pixel Stand
Re Order everything on Monday to save the $200
Julia A2:24 PM
I know you must have something in mind with the Black Friday promotion and I really wish I could help you out.
Xaikar2:24 PM
Which will cost Google in shipping costs etc
Xaikar2:25 PM
Return inspection of both devices restocking fees
Julia A2:25 PM
Yes, absolutely correct.
Julia A2:25 PM
You will not be charged with restocking fee.
Xaikar2:25 PM
So there is nothing that can be done I can't just get a Google home or buds or something instead
Julia A2:26 PM
You will not be charged for shipping too.
Julia A2:26 PM
I know it might not be feasible for you but each promotion has certain terms and conditions.
Xaikar2:26 PM
I know I won't but Google will be someone pays
Julia A2:26 PM
But, I am afraid that I cannot surpass the terms associated with any promotional offer.
Julia A2:26 PM
I really wish I had an option of doing something for you in this case however, I am sure you understand there are certain limitations at my level.
Xaikar2:26 PM
Cool throwing this conversation up on XDA and Twitter have a good day
Julia A2:27 PM
I really appreciate your understanding, Xaikar.
Julia A2:27 PM
Would there be any other queries, you would like to ask me? I would love to help.
Xaikar2:28 PM
Nope this whole process might actually have me looking at an iPhone now
Xaikar2:29 PM
No one wants to help everything is out of everyone's power etc etc no one even tries anymore
Julia A2:29 PM
Xaikar, had it been under my support boundaries I would definitely have made an exception for you.
Xaikar2:29 PM
I am not the only person who feels like they are getting scroogled here
Yeah, it's a pretty whack system they use to process orders. Don't feel bad, they do this for all returns. No price adjustments.

I wouldn't be so pissed if the phone came the way it was supposed to... Unlocked I left my pixel 2 and OG pixel alone but there are things I want to try again.
I've done some searching but haven't found anything specific for Pixel 3 but how do I return to stock from unlocked/rooted so I can RMA and get the Black Friday deal? Is it as simple as flashing the stock image from google and then relocking the bootloader from fastboot?
Yeah I was kinda ticked about the deals after purchasing mine the day it was announced. I would have waited but Google never has sales of their own store phones, only Verizon seems to do that. Next year hardly anyone will order day of release for the Pixel 4. Most everyone is gonna hold out for the possibility of black Friday deals like these.
So, on black Friday they are giving $200 off and still giving away free Pixel Stand?

That was certainly true last year. No BF deal on Google and VZW had 1/2 off one day only, no trade in, no new line needed. This year I needed 2 devices so I went with BOGO and the BF Verizon deal is the same thing except you don't need to buy 2. There will always be those that don't care for the savings and they will be first with the device in October. For the rest of us, always.. always wait for BF deals.
As to the OP, they never give refunds even if you bought it 5 minutes ago. You must return it and reorder. Must be something to do with their ordering system which locks in the payment. You'd think they had a way to do it but they don't.
can someone tell me what you mean when your phone is not unlocked?

Locked are 2 different locks. Sim lock, which Verizon has and I believe can be unlocked to be used on AT&T.
The other type is bootloader unlock, which you cannot unlock the bootloader to root the phone or do any customization. Verizon has it locked, and the google version is bootloader unlockable.

I don't understand why anyone would be upset that there are now Black Friday deals. They are always great deals on phones this time of year so buying one a month or so before and paying full price is your own doing.

ok, i bought the unlocked google version, not the verizon version. guess i could unlock it.. but i dont see a need to unlock the bootloader.. only thing i miss about my unlocked Galaxy S8, was that i could use wireless hotspot with it, and not have to pay ATT for it..

Sometimes carriers can lock you out of hotspot or make it really slow (3G) speeds capped at 512 kbps.
Try this app from the play store. It should have an option to hide your hotspot from the carrier and you would get good speed on your hotspot.

thanks for that.. i will see how it works.. is there a reason unlocked Samsung phones allow hotspot.. without ATT knowing.. i bought the samsung phone from Bestbuy a couple years ago.. unlocked.. and was able to hotspot the kiddos phone on the car no problem.. yet the unlocked google phone doesnt?

You don't understand why anyone would be upset? Seriously? I'm surprised there's not more uproar.
Google billed and PRICED this phone premium - their whole narrative was that good software is as valuable as good hardware, damn the supply-chain economics. I was surviving on a burner last month and desperately needed a new phone - instead of going for a OP6T I paid their iPhone-like price and therefore had iPhone-like expectations. Barely a month out they essentially cut the price in half. **** move. As a longtime Google user, Nexus, Fi user, etc. this was a total slap in the face to not even get the Fi credit.
I think Google should treat their target demographic and early-adopters with a little more respect. Sometimes it just feels like we're paying for the privilege to beta test for them.

All the major phones go on sale during Black Friday and it's been this way for years. I knew when I bought mine mid October that it would be on sale during Black Friday but I didn't want to wait for it so I essentially paid extra to get it early. $200-300 off (not half price) would have been nice but I wanted the phone sooner rather than later.
