How to know bootloaders unlocked - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Is there anywhere that says the bootloader is unlocked on the phone? I want to make sure in unlocked but its not like my nexus with the pad lock at startup screen.

If i'm not mistaken the lock at boot is no longer there on the lower part of screen on boot up. I would check again but dont want to do the mms fix. try that

so just being able to do mms flash should prove its unlocked?

Like the poster above said, if you're "Unlock" symbol on restart is gone than you've successfully flashed the new bootloader

Lol no.
When you reboot, does the first screen that says Samsung hang for a few seconds or does it just blow right by?

all kidding aside that should be the quickest way to know if unlock worked for you

another easy way is to plug in phone and use your adb and type in: adb reboot bootloader
If you see: Qualcom Secureboot: ENABLED
then you have successfully unlocked your bootloader.

It says ENABLED from the factory. Aside from the lack of Custom+padlock Samsung screen on boot (if you already had it) or flashing a kernel, there isn't really anything else at the moment.

If you read through some other posts I think Adam or another dev posted that even with unlocked bootloader it will still say enabled. It is just a bug or something that cannot be changed regardless if bootloader is unlocked or not.
The only way to tell AFAIK for now is to try flashing a kernel. So hang tight kids until we get one released.

There's a few ways to test it. I tested it by flashing a recovery through Odin and it worked. Another thing I noticed is that when you enter Download mode, there's less warning text then before about flashing a custom OS. You can also tell by quicker boot times.
Also the secure boot means the phone checks the partitions on boot to make sure they are valid (I believe this is only for the radio and boot loader partitions) as I THINK secure boot is enabled on every GS3, but may be wrong there.
Also another note, used triangle away on the unlocked boot loader to remove the count from flashing the custom recovery in Odin, and it worked without a hitch!

This is great
Thanks all!

So If I see the padlock on boot, does that mean I am locked? It is weird since when I had my GNex, the padlock meant it was unlocked.:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

When it bots does it say custom with a lock inder it. If so that means rooted with locked bootloader. Use ez unlock 4.2 and it will go away.

I just flashed the stock root66 file, I want to unroot, how do I do that? Yes it says custom with lock under it. Does this mean that the stock firmware file is rooted? What is the correct file to unroot?

Also, When I open ez- unlock, it says "are you rooted?" Does this mean that the phone thinks I am rooted? I have the superuser app for some reason, but I am not rooted as it seems. Thanks for your help.

I believe another way to check if you have the unlocked aboot.img file saved somewhere is to pull a copy of your phone's bootloader image via ADB and compare MD5's with the unsecure aboot.img

It was initially stock on a different menu with the volume bottons inactive, i could only enter hboot, i downloaded a PD98IMG but it wasn't the right version for my hard ware but atleast it got me to the boot loader menu with the volume bottons working.

What happens when you navigate to "Recovery" (with the volume buttons) and select it (with the power button)? Are you S-OFF or unlocked?

Apparently not. His bootloader is S-ON and doesn't display 'unlocked' like it would if he used HTCdev. I guess he was running fully stock. Don't know what could be the cause of his problem, but I think flashing an RUU should be enough to fix it, no?

If the file is correctly named PD98IMG.zip, it is located in the root of your sdcard and you get that message, then your sdcard might be corrupted...try using a different one.
Rather than the PD98IMG.zip method, use an RUU exe file (2 links below, whichever works). Connect your phone to PC in bootloader mode, then run the exe and wait till it's fully finished.

He is linking an .exe file. You need to boot in hboot, plug the phone and choose fastboot (you should see fastboot usb in red). From there you run the .exe file and everything should be working fine.
EDIT: Make sure that you install the drivers with the phone unplugged.
Hello glevitan your info helped me execute the file in sashank link, thanks guys but unfortunately it didn't work i got an error on the software wrong model and on the phone wrong RUU... the file i downloaded was "RUU_Ace_Sense" i guess a diffrent version may work as the process it self works fine just the file error if any one could help me with a link to a diff RUU that corresponds to my HTP Inspire 4G (at&t version)

[Q] Binary counter at 5 can only access download mode

I've been searching for 2 days now and can't come up with an answer. This last time trying to go back to stock using Odin the phone goes through the process but it takes 2 minutes instead of the usual 10 minutes or so. When the phone reboots still stuck with the unauthorized software message. I thought as long as I could access download mode the phone was recoverable. Under binary counter in download mode it says yes counter 5 instead of the preferred no. From what I've read the only way to reset the counter is with the triangle away app which I obviously can't get the phone to that point. My question am I screwed? Is there any other way to get my phone back to stock using a different file or are there alternate methods to reset the counter? I thought the counter was only for store purposes and wouldn't affect flashing abilities. Please help I'm using an iPhone 5 because of this issue and I hate it.

Try downloading another Odin image. You can go with a no wipe image or whatever. But try a different image. If its only taking 2 minutes there might be something screwy with the file. After you do that it should relock your boot loader and flash a stock recovery.
You're not screwed. And question... Were you running a version of AOSP 4.3 or 4.4?
Tapatalk 4 sucks

Try using a different usb cable or different usb port (on your PC) too. I had something similar happen last time I had to ODIN, and it ended up being either a bad USB cable or bad USB port on my machine.
At this point I'll try anything.

Both options do the same.
Wiped data and internal storage. This will not touch external SD though.
Stock rooted rom and firmware is what you get.

How do you return to complete factory stock? I am rooted with an unlocked bootloader. I was running ViperOne, but I ran the RUU from the SD Card and and now on stock, but still rooted and unlocked. I am trying to do a warranty replacement. I found instructions to re-lock, but how do I unroot and remove SuperSU?
Are there any additional steps I should take?

Firmware Update
I tried to update my firmware from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 using the Option 2 (App/EXE) method and the phone had a black screen with HTC in white to black fading colors. The pc said updating and sending. I waited for almost an hour and nothing showed to be happening. I disconnected the phone from the pc and aborted the operation. So I then tried to do Option 1. I put the zip file on my external SD card. I tried to flash it with Flashify but it didn't work. I then went in to TWRP to install it and now I'm stuck on the white screen with the green htc lettering. Phone doesn't do any thing when pressing volume down and power or volume and up and power. Is my phone now a paperweight? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

An ruu is not flashable via flashify or twrp. No where in the instructions does it say that. In fact, you really shouldn't be attempting flashes like that with partition based zips period. You could brick your phone.
Try the exe again. It likely never sent because your pc didn't install the correct driver for the phone when you entered fastboot.

Do you have a screenshot you could share. This is what shows up on my Sync Manager. I want to return my phone and this is the only thing stopping me from doing so.

It's the same thing my s on exe's use. Only difference is sync checks in with HTC. And sync won't repair a custom Rom. Use the exe's I made to be safe.

Official RUU 3.28.605.4 EXE/ZIP
Edit...I just opened this in webview so I could see your screen shot. You aren't getting repair option because you flashed the hk mod and it wasn't modified for use on vzw. I can tell by your mainver that it's not vzw. Should be 605 not 401. 401 is intl based roms. You can relock now but do not do not turn s-on until you fix your firmware using my exe.

I am using an EU phone, it's not on Verizon, sorry I should have specified. I bought it on Amazon.co.uk. I then followed this guide to revert it (which worked fine) but the "Software Status: Modified" flag still appeared.
I can't set S-OFF because of some errors that come up after chugging bottle 1.

@Sneakyghost probably has a file that will help you clear that problem. You are gonna need the latest signed encrypted firmware.zip for your phone. Vzw so far is the only carrier that gets the repair option in HTC sync.

If you have the latest for that carrier and os version. Would have to be the same or higher version.
There's this one on the HTC Devs site, will it work?
Many thanks.

Download that. Extract it. Find the firmware.zip inside it. Do not extract that. Instead, flash it in fastboot mode in ruu mode.
Fastboot oem rebootRUU
Fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
If you see any output about about immediately reflushing repeat the above command.
Fastboot reboot-bootloader
To get back to boot loader.
What will happen if it's not the correct version? Will I brick my device?
According to that screenshot it is not. Plus you are s-on so it won't allow you to flash wrong firmware.

HTC one x plus s-on to s-off firewater problem!

Hello guyz, i have problem on my htc one x plus.
I installed cm11 nightly for my on my x plus from here:
http://get.cm/get/qG0
After that my imei has gone blank along with the baseband version.
I did a bit of research and found that by using ruu, u can get the imei back.
So for that i needed turn my s-on to s-off by the foll commands:
adb reboot
if i am not mistaken, while the phone is rebooting i am supposed to put the 2nd command:
adb wait-for-device push firewater /data/local/tmp
The problem here that I think is the phone reboots so fast that i guess the command fails to execute and i get an error saying :
error protocol fault (no status)
So, how to turn off fastboot or quickboot in cm11? There is absolutely no option in the phone. I tried battery settings, power settings, everything!
is there a way to disable fastboot/quickboot in bootloader mode?
plz help!

I don't think you need to be S-on to run a RUU. At least back in my HTC evo 4g LTE days, you didn't. Try running the RUU as S-off.

Flash a stock based ROM and try the RUU again. S-on or off shouldn't matter.

That should work, yes. However, just flashing a stock ROM may fix it as well.

I found a few, here's one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2004928
Also, just search through the development here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-x2/development
And I believe this is the problem mentioned in your first post. S-off tool will only work on stock based ROM.

i forgot to mention that mine is HOX+ international version.
thanks for the links!
from the first link,i found a european stock rom. I stay in india, so shud i flash the european one?
There is no stock rom for asia !
Also, is there any way to disable fastboot/quickboot from the bootloader? coz if that's possible,it would solve everything!

I'm not sure, or willing to say, yes to that. I don't suppose you made a backup of stock before flashing custom, did you? This is why you always make a backup of stock.
