Downgrading from ICS CM9 to GB CM7? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Hey guys,
What would be the best way to downgrade from CM9 ICS down to CM7 GB? Could I use Heimdall One Click to get back to GB, then just flash CM7?
Thanks in advance,
eclipse245

I don't think you have to heimdall back to stock if you want to get back to cm7 seeing as its MTD like cm9

So I can just flash CM7 even though I'm on ICS?

No you should flash heimdall first then flash cm7

I didn't have to heimdall back to stock when I did it a month ago.

Where did you see this posted? Originally it was suggested to flash cm7 first them the ICS flavors.

I'd say just incase heimdall to stock and then flash cm7, I mean its better to keep the gremlins out! ;D

Installed CM7, tethering works now However the Home button doesn't do anything, just vibrates when you press it. any ideas?

I thought running heimdall before going back to gb would be what your supposed to do since your downgrading the os

That is for MTD TO BML. CM7 is MTD.

I knew that's how you got back to bml but for some reason I thought you had to heimdall back to gb no matter what gb rom you were on. My mistake

no cwm. we dont have it for any gingerbread leak yet because we have no custom kernels to support it yet. but you can odin to froyo fine.
You need a custom kernel? I thought you just needed a modified recovery binary and the the update.zip

honestly i would say yes, but you could try the sgs kernel flasher app thats in the market but i dont know if it will work.

I had the same thing, are you rooted? If yes, did you use the zimage-kg4.tar. Because that file fixed it for me.
KG4 is pulling the recovery somewhere else.. it's not like Froyo where it reads the update.zip. i'm just hoping it's not part of the Kernel.

Full restore on gingerbread works with both froyo and gingerbread roms

To do a full restore on gingerbread just flash a bali kernel with voodoo. Then after the flash reboot recovery then restore your nandroid
EDIT: may also help on soft bricking gingerbread as long as you have gingerbread bootloaders. As you can restore to a nandroid.

I used the voodoo recovery all i did was flash the kernel bali 3.3,then immediately boot back into recovery, then fully restored my backup. I would make a video but i dont have a youtube account maybe dsexton or raverx3x could make a video for it.

Glad I scrolled through and found this...
ICBINB KH2 left me with the vanishing SD card, i was looking for a fix for that problem when I found this... at least I should be able to get back on Black Ice for now.
Followed the steps, so no clue what happened, but it did... and I couldn't get my compie to recognize the phone to Odin back like I usually would... Recovery wouldn't come up like usual either...
One 5 second read here and I'm back on Bali 3.3, and restoring my last Ice nand...
(fingers crossed, but should be good to go!)
Isn't the real question for gb "how to do a full backup?"

cnote thanks for the find. Life just got a whole lot simpler!
so does Gingerbread actually run with the Bali 3.3 kernel then?
or is it just so you can use the recovery console, and you never actually boot the phone? so you would need to immediately flash a GB kernel after this?

You need to flash kg4 cwm kernel after restoring your GB nandroid. If restoring froyo, I always reflash Bali after restore. All this done in recovery. Don't let the phone boot up until you reflashed the kernel.

Yeah, I thought GB doesn't mount the system, so a GB NAND backup can't be made.
@Somairotevoli: Did you flash Bali 3.3 first, then create a backup of GB? I'm so confused on this.

[Q] Best Odin Rom Should I Flash ?

I think the KG4 leak is the one that has the gb bootloaders... BUT! to be save, look for the GB Starter Pack thread made by FBis251 (or something very close) that has worked for me to upgrade from froyo to gb and many others. Hope I helped!

All of the leaks have GB bootloaders.
If you're just planning to have a 100% stock odexed ROM, then you should go for the newest KJ1 ROM.
If you're just asking this to see which GB ROM is the best, you should shoot yourself in the foot, cause you could probably find at least 3 recent threads on that topic.
I'm looking around in the forums and you're spending very little time in searching and trying to understand.

I followed the process to ODIN KG4
then used recovery mode to flash Valhalla (Via Zip) from SD card
You have to read the GB Starter Pack and begin there in order to get the proper bootloaders for GB. Then you can simply flash Valhalla.

Again, do not use ROM Manager. It does not work correctly with our phones. Whatever you need to flash, use ODIN or CWM. I'm not sure about UOT Kitchen though.
you flash UOT files though CWM, it works fine and I've done it many times.

So im using one of Dr honks's kernals. The 2.3.3 one with the messed up rainbow screen when you boot it up. Ive already had 4 problems with it and ive been running this for 3 days. Plus I cant even get into recovery. Is there a stable 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 kernal that has recovery?

sounds like you don't have the correct boot loaders on your phone, and you didn't flash gingerbread properly the first time around.
follow FB's directions to get your phone on a correct gingerbread build with the right boot loaders:

keep it tho honestly because this is the only real device that sucks with rom manger and u wont always have that phone
Raver has a great app on his ROM for CWM access..it's called Quick Boot..get it from market. Remember with GB I'd use kj1 from drhonk. Only use Bali 2.3 with froyo.

Kj1 would work best.. DL it through the phone if u want, move it to sd from the download folder (could be tapatalk folder depending on which browser u use) and flash through CWM . Should be pain free.

[Q] Going from Jelly Bean to GingerBread

I need help im tired of jellybean. Theres too many things not working for me and i want to go back to GingerBread. I try to flash GingerBread roms but it just brings me back to CWM recovery. Is there a way to go back or im stuck on jellybean. I even tried to flash an Icecream Sandwich rom but it just brings me back to CWM recovery. My recovery is 6.0.2.8.
You probably should just one-click to stock and start from there.

I don't think you can downgrade from an mtd ROM if you were using one. I think you will have to return to the stock 2.3.6 first, and then flash another ROM if you would like.
