We also allow some guide threads in Android Development, the one named [HOW TO], however, as said, we allow them but not thousand of that speaking the same things ( Rom list, Kernel list, Root list).......so, please, stop lets stop to open this kind of threads, any other HOW TO thread that will result the same as another one will be closed starting by now.
were the rules changed to allow probationary members posting rights in dev forums? i see it happening in this forum all the time.

I want to provide buttons in my app that appear/disappear near the

He's not asking for help or an opinion or how to "use" an application. He's asking about an API/intent... I think that's development. Especially since I can't answer the question.

If questions about the API and development do not belong in the development section where do they go? What are the rules for something qualifying to be in development? Being new to android development I'd like to know before I post in the wrong place.
You may want to contact the Dev of the Steel web browser that is in the Android Market, he has implemented a simillar and I think more elegant solution in his browser interface. There website is http://www.kolbysoft.com

I've made an *.icon File with 256*256 pixels and assembeld it with my project.
It would be very nice if somebody could give me some Icontemplate (the grey rounded box in the background of many icons), and tell me the best practice for making own icons.
Well i think you may want to try in some photoshop/icons related forums or boards. Search on internet, there are severals, and many will reply to your questions and may help you.
This is a development forum, and not sure if you may get much input from any members.

I've been moving a ton of threads lately and I'm tired of doing it nicely. From here on out, what TheImpaler747 has said above will be enforced. I have better things to do and I don't need to babysit people who can't search or post in the correct section. Expect points and/or temp bans if it happens. Senior members, PG101, and myself are tired of dealing with it.

I was searching info about this phone and to my surprise there is no forum for it.
Doing a little bit of research into the forums, i found that "a lot of people" are looking for this to happen, that XDA-Developers.com could create a forum specifically for this device.
I know there's still too early for modifications and stuff for the device, since the bootloader is blocked by motorola, BUT, that's where we can do something about it.
So, after reading a LOT of "why XDA-Developers doesn't open a forum for the device?", i thought, maybe is a good idea to see if there's enough people around REALLY looking for this to happen, and to help the XDA-Developers team see how much interest is in the XT615.
So there you have it, what are your thoughts about it?
We have been fighting for a XT165 own forum since months. There is a thread with more than 125pages, with some devs working on our device... so actually we got root, a cwm recovery, a 2nd init and some themes...
We need a bigger space, so we can talk about each topic in it own thread, making navigation more clear and easier for users. We need some help with the bootloader, cause it's still blocked. And with some luck and time, we can get ICS/JB in our devices.
