[Q] Facebook Notifications with multiple sessions - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I am having this extreme annoying problem with Facebook Notifications. Even though this has to do with facebook fixing this stupid annoyance, i am looking for a solution until they actually think for the user and not for themselves.
Every time i am on the PC, whether i'm using Facebook Messenger or am actually browsing through facebook.com with the browser, if i get a notification, those of CHAT most of the time, i receive them on my phone as well. Now everything is fine and is working as it should, but i find it extremely annoying being notified on my phone when i am actually at the heart of facebook where nothing can pass away from my eyes (even ears)
I dont want to stop facebook messenger notifications (nor the facebook main app ones), i just want them to be ignored or call it NOT SENT when i am connected on the browser. There must be a way for facebook to prioritize the destination device (client, me) on where to send the notification or where not.
Regards.

Anything guys? im not a fan of double posts either.

If you haven't worked it out yet mate - this is nothing to do with anyone on XDA.
Yes, there is probably a way for Facebook to do what you want - so ask the guys at FB who are paid $100k+ to write the apps for that abortion of a social media site. I can't, for a minute, imagine that any Dev on XDA would waste their time taking apart a FB app (which would probably be contrary to XDA's terms and conditions) just to do this.
Bumping your post is not going to get you any help.

I've been a forum mod myself, i know the annoyance i am creating and i know the pain it causes, but believe me i am not proud of it, it is just killing me getting a notification at both places at the same time.
The reason why i'm asking is to look if anyone found a workaround, and i am amazed to see people not being annoyed by this matter.

That excuse is up there along with;-
"I don't want to interrupt you, but ..." - Yes you do or you wouldn't be doing it.
There is no workaround other than disabling notifications on FB. They probably don't want to allow people to turn them off as most people seem to thrive on getting notifications for FB as it makes them feel all important, so getting the notification twice makes them feel twice as important.

I would've found three better methods explaining your workarounds lets say in a more humane way. Remember, people ask questions to get answers, especially on a general discussion board.
Thanks anyway.

you just beat me to posting it...looks good so far.
I almost got caught to facebook also but I had too many doubts. Here is a version of someones doubts... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XhzYGoBif8
Do not forget that facebooks social side (the only side actually) is useful only if you use your real name. Otherways nobody wont find you. Now just think...
EDIT:...or let me explain. Basically, what goes there stays there. For start if you happen to get to a criminal side for genuine needs, cops would get loads of information about your relationships etc.
And the main point: facebook-A BIG mass of data from everyone. This might be the present or surely it will be the future: intelligent engines/robots to scan and analyze the mass of data accumulated there psychologically enough to make conclusions about geopolitical/social/mass-psychological preferences. And the kind of preferences we cannot think about even for now. The next move from there is agressive manipulation and big loss of freedom
yeah, works perfectly on my TD2 ;-)

Facebook just holds the information YOU provide, pretty simple. It is a VERY good way to stay in touch with old friends and relatives but of course it is a pretty open social network and you need to be careful with the information YOU provide. Facebook doesn't take or steal anything from you, it is up to YOU what kind of information and how much of it you provide for others to see. THAT simple. To make it short: just use your brain and Facebook can be a very nice place to enjoy.
Working for me
Works great so far on my TD2. Can't believe it took this long for microsoft to release a facebook app for windows mobile!!!
One down side though, still doesnt have flick scrolling which is a bit of a pain, hopefully they'll sort that out soon.

Yeah, but what about REAL names... thats enough for me
Off course facebook doesn't steal anything from me. It is just a container... a container which at some point contains data enough (even if you do not put there facts like home address etc, just your name which is a damn good fact) to get analyzed. And offcourse - not by facebook. Even chats and comments are enough at some point to compile a solid profile about you. Once again - they are related to REAL names.
I know it is hard to like this kind of theory when you already have a facebook account. My wife has a facebook account and I am seeing the mass of information streaming there. Besides the social side is so effective that you cannot get out of it anymore - it is a good extra communication platform.
BTW I have a plaxo account which has my outlook contact folders... I "can" delete the folders and account there but what about THEIR recycle bin for "archival" and "statistics" purposes... I'd love to get rid of it but I think there is no need to do it as it is too late already.
And I just received an emali from damn facebook which suggested me to sign up and showed the names of the people I know. How did the monster know my friends if I have been avoiding it

This app here might be as good as possible. No complaints about it.
uhh... I'll put it as short as I can: First: I am not worried about scanning my PC. I am worried about scanning the data on Facebook servers.
It contains your REAL name and your REAL activities. Please folks... try to imagine just a little bit. The scanner wouldn't be any data collector or single data unit detector (like bank account numbers, email etc). I am talking about intelligent scanner here. The one that uses sentence content detection/comparsion and linguistic variation approximating techniques in spite of the personality that is in the text. Face recognition is already there for us to use even. From this point scanner has already simplified data to deal with. Imagine this kind of scanner cooperating with psychologists who obey people with high political, economical - and if anybody is interested anymore about the old timer - MORAL authority. As time has told the ambitions of these people have almost never been sincere. A single facebook user most likely wouldn't be endangered. It is plurality that makes the effect

Same here. After keying in userid and password and tap on done. the app freezes.
After trial and error, i found out that its the files used by the previous version that's causing the lockup.
Try uninstall the facebook app completely then rename Facebook.vol and fbmail.vol to something like Facebook.vol.old and fbmail.vol.old.
install the latest version and try.
If it works.. u can delete the 2 .old files.

That’s only one half of the brain. And that the phrase I keep listening from Facebook users.
The question is ... Can you control what other people post about you? Pictures information’s etc?
I know that they can still do that but those information’s are usable only if they are linked to an existing user...
When you open an account then pictures from you on your friends account stops being a picture.
It’s now usable and abusable data... I t’s just a question of time for both of those things...
Try now and use your brain 100% ...

Fantastic. Glad it works for u as well
works fine on my D2. great app, finally
as for the philosophy of facebook and social networking, i'm afraid that what darfri says is true. we users use it as a fun location, posting information that is not harmful for anyone...but what it is done with it in the background where big brother watches, only God knows...
but honestly, with today's tehnology i would not bother about information some guys know about me. i'm sure that if they want to know, they will know...and i don't think they will go as far as facebook. but this growing/exploding community could be a good source too, at some point.

Serious Android Texting Bug

Scroll to the very bottom of this page and click ""Vote for this issue and get email change notifications." RIGHT NOW to help get this issue fixed! http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9392
I have personally experienced this bug once that I can remember, and luckily for me it wasn't TOO big of a deal. I thought maybe it was a random, one time deal until I saw this post on Engadget. However, this bug is a lot more widespread than I thought.
The bug itself can be read about here: http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/31/android-still-has-horrible-text-messaging-bugs-thatll-get-you-f/
tl;dr:
1.Randomly, your phone may send a text message that you send to a contact to a random person on your contacts list with no warning.
2.Or, possibly less important, open the wrong text conversation when you try to open a text thread or open a text through via the notification bar.
Me personally, I've only experience the first issue that I listed one time. However, the second one happens often enough to annoy me, and enough that I double check every time I open a thread to make sure I'm talking to the right person.
My question is, is it possible for a dev (or multiple devs) to look in to this issue and fix it? Apparently it's only of "medium" importance as far as Google is concerned, but that's a bit ridiculous to me. People could literally lose their job or their marriages over something like this.
Also, IMO, this should be on the front page of xda..

[Q] Why my application was removed from the market?

I hope this time it's the correct forum.
So long story short.
I've written an app that allows to hijack FaceBook profiles over the WiFi. So when you're connected to WiFi you can "hack" into other users profiles. It doesn't work for profiles using SSL (yes you have that option in FB). So it can be treated as a "bad app". BUT! it is not dangerous for the one using it. I am aware that this is "questionable" application, but is there any other way to tell people - "HEY! use secure connections, it is not safe to use public WIFI!". I'd bet that a lot of you don't use SSL now and after using/reading this app you will turn SSL on.
That could be the #1 reason for deleting my app.
The second one is that I've put a 'demo' app in the market with a limit to sniffing only 3 profiles. But you could buy it through paypal. And today I've found out that this also could lead to app deletion. However i've bought launcherpro through paypal so I don't see why my app was removed in less than 24 hours.
What is your opinion and what can I do to sell my app somehow (i need my 25$ back that I've paid to register in google wrr...). Is there an option I could do put it in market without google deleting it like putting a disclaimer or something? The app itself is safe for the user downloading it.
Edit: If I put a link to this app here will this thread be deleted? If so, is there an option to promote it here?
Per forum rules, link removed

+1 on that
if it allows you to hijack fb you can steal other information from the users account so why would they allow it and put themselves into a legal bind for doing so

So if it wasn't for this app you would be safe? No, facebook is ignoring users privacy and this app is nothing more then a good way to show people what could be the cost of not using secure connections. Of course this can be used in a bad way, a lot of apps can. Like sms bombing or phone number spoofing. But they are not removed from the marked do they?

Yes, I know what ethic is however we're not living in a perfect world and just believing that everyone is good and ethical so I can just leave my door open when leaving the house is not going to protect me against the reality. I believe in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_disclosure and this case is even better because FaceBook is aware of the problem and just ignore it. A few people are aware that there's an option to use SSL on facebook. In my opinion FB should just get it done right and force users to use it. It's not a problem these days right? And what is wrong in getting paid for my work. I've spent some time developing it. Security by obscurity is not working, really. Take my app for example it would take max 1h to crack it. It's not security it's just being to lazy to secure it. And hoping that no one would care to crack it.
sms bombing is not hacking someones account! you are just spamming someone with messages.
even if it is down to fb to let people know about security, the market owners can be sued for allowing such an app on the market. there are better ways of showing a person how unsecure a connection is without punishing them in such a way.
the secure connection is useful for public connections but some people may not want or need to use it at home so they have the ability to switch it on or off. apparently there are issues with some games on fb that are linked in with the use of the secure connection.

People are killed for spamming in russia (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/07/26/russian_spammer_killed/)
And what about spoofing caller id? AFAIK that things are valid in court cases in Poland.

I don't know how to tell people - secure yourself any other way. I know i'm devils (myself) advocate right now, but really do you think that forgetting about insecurity is a good way? I don't force anyone to use it in a bad way. But after I showed how it works in my house all my room-mates turned SSL on instantly. And they were not mad about it, shocked a bit but now they are safer now. Sure you can just tell people - hey turn ssl on and 90% of them will ignore you. But when you show them - look! i can see your messages that easily if you don't do it. Then they would listen.
haha! So, if someone got a gun and went around shooting people in cars to proove that they should actually have bullet proof windows and burst-proof tyres, that it's all ok, and not in any way shape or form, illegal?
ha. ha.
infact op ip should be reported to facebook
By nature I wouldn't go near this app. If its collecting other peoples info I could be collecting my own. Thats how I see it logically ... people always get screwed when they are doing something they shouldn't be doing.
There is a place for all apps in this world be they good or bad. You could always host a site and put it on there. I wouldn't go near it cause once again I'd be afraid of whats laced on that site.
I was just providing another point of view to the convo.

So if you have a car that can be opened by someone who has a screwdriver wouldn't you want car manufacturer to secure your car. Buying a bulletproof car isn't exactly the same as pushing a button in a web browser isn't it? And you're comparing killing a man to posting "I'm a jackass on someones FB wall". But still, you can buy a gun right? Also pretending that there's no problem isn't fixing a problem.
And hey, this app isn't new you know, if it wasn't for this thread maybe you wouldn't know that people use this apps on PC's maybe one day you would find that all your mail is gone (yes, this app could be modified to work with other sites like this forum). And ask yourself wouldn't you be pissed if you've found out that anyone using your network could get into your bank account? Well I would. But most (all?) banks use SSL by default. Google does. Why FB doesn't?

Yes, in fact it needs root to modify iptables and send raw arp messages and I know people get scared when an app needs root. If someone is interested I could write here how it's done and anyone could write it. It's actually nothing magical.
I wrote this app as a project for my mobile programming class. In the first version it also sniffed for Gadu-Gadu messages (it's a polish messenger). But I sure hope that when and if this app let's loose than FB will react and enable ssl by default. Maybe other websites will use it too. It's just that easy to protect your users, I don't understand why they don't do it?
most people who do not want their details stolen, do not use public access internet. does FB take money transactions over their site?
google does and the banks do so they will have a secure section. fb may do this using paypal or google checkout or otherwise so may not need the ssl that the banks need. sure it still renders people vulnerable to attack and theft of other information but even so that information is very limited dependant on the user of the account.

Yes, so other people want their details stolen? You are aware of the problem 'cause your "into computers" but out of 500 milion fb users how many of them ever heard of SSL? How many know that they are unsafe?
well with the amount of messages being spread on fb already about this i think more people will know, but to let people know only by stealing their details is pathetic. sure you may have made this app for a project but why give other people the power to do this. all you are doing is providing more uses for those who like to make other peoples lives a misery. the best thing that could be done with this is to let the website provider know how unsecure their system is. especially if you are aware of the issue and are bothered by it. i know i'd do the same. if that didnt work, sure i'd tell people about it but i wouldnt sell an app on to others so they can make use of it. not even for free.

Sure I could write an e-mail to facebook, but this issue is known for years! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Session_hijacking I am sure FaceBook is aware of it. In fact they've enabled SSL only a month ago (maybe two months) but why it isn't enabled by default?
who knows. perhaps issues with other applications on the website, or applications made to access facebook. they may have left it so they can cater for other applications for and on the site. only they can answer that question.
anyway, he just showed the spirit of a developer and created something new
he never told anyone "hey go hack facebook profiles" or "sniff those profiles, its fun"
he just showed the possibilites of android development and did nothing wrong in my opinion
it's not his fault if facebook is unable to close a security leak known for a long time
yeah dont get me wrong blezz i understand that completely. but the argument was as to why they would remove it. legality reasons would be tne main issue. to cover their own backs as they can in fact face legal action for allowing the app to become available in their market.
I don't see anything wrong with the app.
It shows the flaws of facebook, and the fact that no one in facebook cares enough to do anything about it. But then I understand whygoogle would remove it... If facebook decided to sue for this google would be sued not YOU.
so it would be best if you released it HERE on xda rather than the market

App Permissions - Need a little help

I'm still newer to Android and today realized the permissions that apps request. Before I was quick to just accept & go. I was about to install an app that is requesting a LOT of permissions. Phone calls, hardware controls (pics/vids at any time), and network communication (SMS I believe). My questions are simple.
1. Do some mods already implement certain things into itself to disable some of these features? I understand this is a mod-by-mod basis if so. Does Synergy do anything to disable this crap, anybody know?
2. How worried do I have to be about this? Will the app literally take pics and send them out without my knowledge? Or is it only the pics I take it can send out? How does this work?
3. Which of the permissions that apps request do I really need to keep an eye on and watch out for? AKA, what could take info/pics that I dont want it to?
4. Is Anti-Virus software REALLY necessary since I'm all rooted and such? I read articles saying it's useful and others saying it doesn't even provide much protection, and the chance to get something is quite rare if you only use google play/android market?
Thanks in advance for any and all help. I ditched Apple and AT&T for this thing, and with it being rooted, I am unbelievably happy I made the switch to both VZW and the S3! AWESOME phone, screen size, and customization!
Bump...
Ok, so maybe this is getting ignored because it's too much of a noob question, or self explanatory? Not sure, but I want to know how far this crap goes...To my worst fears, like hardware control can take pics any time they want and I never know about it, or is it not that bad?
Thanks in advance for any help!
It is somewhat self explanatory... just use common sense when downloading an app... If you don't think it really needs the permission that it's asking for then don't download it. For example, there's no reason a music app that plays your sdcard contents needs your GPS location, etc... Look at the reviews of apps in question also... that's your best indicator right there if the app is trustworthy or not... If it's a bad app then its going to have bad reviews.

[Q] Is it possible to permanently get rid of Tapatalk crapware spam popups?

Every time I do a google search or something in my phone's web browser, I usually end up on some kind of a forum where the information is. Upon opening the forum, Tapatalk popup comes up 95% of the times I search for something. This is more annoying than any ad banner or even spam emails. Tapatalk is absolutely SPAM and I hate it so much that I will never ever even consider buying the app.
I know there are browser cookies that will be planted in the cache so next time you visit the same forum, the popup won't be there. But normally when you google search and land on a forum, there are so many forums that it's impossible to plant all those "no thank you Tapatalk" cookies in the browser cache. Also, after some time, I (like everyone else here) reflash/update my ROM and clean out everything, then it starts all over again.
This is a nightmare. Should I be asking this kind of function to Chrome web browser developers? Or is there such a plug-in for Android Chrome that will shut Tapatalk up? There's got to be a way to remove those junk popups.
Bump. We want to be able to get rid of this **** by Crapatalk.
Bump since I agree. Even xda with its huge useless sidebar in tablet mode isn't bad enough to make me want to use an app to browse forums. Feels more like a way to make sure users really watch those ads.
