At&t already EOL'ed our Atrix 2 - Motorola Atrix 2

The Atrix 2 has already been Scheduled for an EOL on august 30th. It's already out of stock and now EOL'ed. It's not even on the at&t web site anymore. Just how many hard bricks did we get with the leak? So if we hard brick will we be moved on to a different phone. Once my X10 finally bit the dust after 1000's of flashes they replaced it with the atrix 2. I will have had this phone 1/2 as long.

It's att's fault. They did not push the A2 like they did with the original Atrix. They are doing the same thing with the Atrix hd. It's all about the sgs3.

Actually, it IS still available on AT&T's website for purchase...and it clearly says in stock.
http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/motorola/atrix-2-black.html
Either way, all you linked to was a PDF file that anyone with decent skills could create. There is no confirmed proof of EOL happening this month...

It is not available on the web site when i shop for phones or log in to upgrade. About the pdf. What kind of conspiracy would make fake pdfs and send them to people and businesses in my line of work. I was only bringing up a talking point. No need to look behind the curtain on this one. Thanks for your input though.

Yeah this has been seen lately, it is actually harder and harder to get an A2 right now. My store told me that they have 10 in stock and when they run out that is it. I was told that they tend to exchange lower end phones for the A2 up until the end of the month they will continue this practice, For people that have insurance through AT&T. If you bork your phone after the end of the month you will get whatever the next "cheap" replacement is. I was told they will won't exchange the A2 for the Atrix HD, unless the customer really complains.
I personally do not want the Atrix HD, they are locked down worse than we are.

Is it the same for a warranty replacement? I've been considering it due to a dead pixel, but if they're gonna stick me with some crappy pantech, I think I'll pass.

only after all stock of new and refub have run out, only new sales are stopped after the 31st... and warranty replacements are 99% of the time refurbs.... heck look the Atrix 4G gang was still getting replacements up until Jan or Feb this year, before they ran out, and started giving out the Atrix2 as replacements for the Atrix 4G.

No, you are correct, but that does not mean that they are going just run out this month, right after the announcement. It just means no more new sales, and any "new" phones that stores have will go to repair centers, or to the main repair center, and they will be used as replacements until they run out... all the 3rd party insurance companies are already giving other phones for replacements since "they" can not get the A2s through their channels any longer.

What do you mean exchange? Like warranty exchange? Because every time I needed my inspire 4g replaced my only option was another inspire 4g they did buy my atrix 2 for $116 when I upgraded 2 weeks ago.

Yes if you get a warranty exchange from AT&T, and they have run out of all new and refurbs of the phone you currently have, then you get whatever they really feel like giving out.... for instance I once had a tilt and it died so many times, and I got a moto q world phone as like 6 replacement, since they had no more tilts. That was such a POS, that I MADE them give me something else, and I got an iphone 1 since that was an "allowed" replacement on my account.
So you usually do not have a choice if you use insurance, but if you complain enough then you might get something that is "usable" I also had the inspire and sold it to best buy to get my A2, that insipre was ok, but that battery sucked, I was glad I could run CM on it though.

i just picked up my 4th a2 today due to a shot camera. i use a bestbuy warrenty though. i lucked out and they gave me a brand new a2.

confirmed....just walked out of att store. not selling atrix2 now at all, might be able to get one through warranty if under 1 year

Not surprising news that they're only for exchanges now, really. It was midrange when it was released almost a year ago, and since then a bunch of better phones have been released and the prices on those have dropped.
It's a solid phone in itself, but neither Motorola or AT&T ever really gave it the time of day. Another reason Motorola should unlock the bootloaders - because then no one on here really cares if they ever release an official OTA.

I believe it...Big Red (Verizon) did the same thing with the X2...the bigger and better is what they will always care about...this phone is following same path I'm sure. As verizon got bigger and better the 3G smartphones were falling off, then when the bionic, razr and gnex came, some of the lower featured 4G smartphones were falling off. AT&T does the exact same...it's bound to happen to the A2. Especially cuz of the SGS2, SGS3 the One X...now the Atrix HD...the patterns match dead on. Soon those phones will be the old news...thats how it goes.
Sent from my MB865 using xda premium

Maybe if they all stop caring, they'll just unlock the bootloader and let the users have at it. Seems proper, but time will tell.

Atrix HD is gonna have an even shorter lifespan as I can see. It's on sale everywhere like if it was on clearance. Lol

ATT Replacement Policy??

So, I did not buy the insurance on my phone. I take good care of my things so it's not a problem.
However, I'm on my third cappy, due to various defects. It's pretty obnoxious having to keep going and exchanging it...
Does ATT have a policy where they will sell you another phone for contract price or give you a phone of equal value for free after x amount of warranty replacements?
Regards
Smith

Well, I'm hoping it doesn't come to that.
I've invested a lot in this phone lol extended battery and case... ok not that much haha but still.
And I couldn't switch to a phone without custom ROM's... I'm addicted... NO! it's not a problem!!!!
If you do return it you should really consider the HTC Inspire, I just got one for my wife and I feel like dumping the Captivate!
The Inspire is too new of a phone. The phone they will give you is the Xperia X10. I've looked into it after going through my fair share of Cappys which a few could have been solved with a jig which i finally bought but anywayyyyy.
From what the resolutions specialist told me on the phone the Inspire and Atrix will take 6 months for them to get refurbs of those and even then its not a guarantee thats the phone they'll give you. They'll only give refurbs based on the information given to me when I pursued the same outcome.
Didn't take 6 months for refurbs to hit market. I gave a refurb, and I ordered it at the end of october. Remind me when captivate was released? 2-3 months is prob a more realistic timeframe.
Sent from a place my wife doesn't know about (yet)
3 replacement, 1 new battery possibly, and then they will let u choose an alternate device within the same segment. I hit replacement, replacement, battery, replacement. I was told I would have the option to swap device if it failed this time too. But luckily, the 3rd one worked.
I just don't like any other phones :/
I kinda like the xperia... the HTC looks cool but is too new...
Idk. Hopefully cappy lasts.
Regards
Smith
Don't you just hate when you.get different stories. I had two different resolutions specialists tell me 5 phones and your eligible for a different model but only one told me the inspire would take 6 months its possible it will be significantly less time.

Anyone interested in getting rid of their captivate for an upgrade but not due yet...

I was only 4 months into my contract with ATT with my captivate. I had 3 Aria's and 1 captivate, all with problems i documented with ATT. I posted on ATT's Facebook page how disappointed i was with them and was immediately contacted and said they would be happy to upgrade me right away. Now have an Inspire. Good Luck!
Or complain to the BBB. Worked for some of us.

Eh, AT&T usually takes back the problematic device after swapping it to the newer one.
Pretty sure AT&T didnt let him keep 4 "disfuctional" smart phones.
I think he meant he went through 3arias and a captivate
So what's the point to this thread?
He was telling us how to upgrade before we were due one, without any extra cost. I think.

When I first got the captivate I was coming off a Motorola Razr... guess how long I had that phone. So needless to say I was a little taken back by this "new" device. Very impressed, until two months later the charge deaths kicked in... AH! Never had this problem with my trusty old Razr. Got a refurb, all is well, but me experience has left me feeling a little tainted. Not sure if I could really be satisfied with it now, so patiently waiting for June, July, and August, this guy is.

There will be many things that you need to keep an eye on with a smartphone that you didnt need to with the older razor. No Smartphone will be without issues. The old razor was just that a phone nothing more. The captivate is alot more then that.

Thunderbolt lovers get ready for big brother. Last topic I start was during rumor now the pictures have been released and the release date still looking like October. I can only hope the thunderbolt great developers follow up their work to this upcoming great phone. I plan on turning my thunderbolt into a testing phone once I upgrade and maybe doing a little coding myself. Just thought I would keep everyone updated on the newest upcoming 4GLTE HTC phone.

I have been with verizon over 10 years and neither mom, dad, wife, or myself have ever purchased a phone for full price. And i have never kept a phone over a year. I just call in tell them I want to buy a phone and say I know my contract is not up but I wanted to know if i can get a loyality credit toward a new phone. And there you have it pay like $50 bucks to move contract up but you have to buy the phone right there and then. And some of the reps are lazy they won't do this for you just call back and you will find one that likes their job. My lastest upgrade came for free a few months after the thunderbolt came out I was having reboot issues on nonrooted phone took it into store can't be fixed, I was having dropped data for days at a time, needless to say didn't want a replacement thunderbolt so i got a free upgrade to new phone at 2 year price, then I rooted my phone and it fixed all my problems.

are there any good sales for this phone?

Long story short: broke my Sidekick, need a new phone.
the only phones I'm interested in is another Sidekick ($380), or a mytouch 4g slide (at least $500). problem is, even though my contract has run only a few months, it's actually cheaper to pay the cancellation fee (max $200) and switch to another provider than to buy a new phone unsubsidized, which afaik, is all t-mobile will allow. (kind of a screwed up business model, huh?)
so since its almost black friday in 6 hours or so,, does anyone know of a good sale on either Mytouch 4g slide, or even the Sidekick?
May want to check t mobiles website. You can always buy a refurbished phone as well.

thanks for the suggestions guys, but the only good deal I found at all was for the Samsung Transform Ultra, on Boost Mobile. so I went for that, I think I'll be pretty happy to finally have real stock android rather than a Sense/Touchwiz infection.
I did look for deals on tmobile phones, but they were all for new contracts and upgrades ONLY. I even got on the customer service line twice and explained to them that 1. I could not keep using the broken phone, and 2. the ONLY adequate replacements are twice the cost of cancelling; they did not seem to have a contingency for this. oh well, their loss. my new phone, of course, will have a protection plan, but still, Tmobile really should rethink their replacement system.

Just sell your cell phone contract to a third party.
well now that i'm on Boost, I've been noticing that If I started a new contract with Tmobile under the current black friday weekend deals, I could get this or several other phones free and then actually recoup some of the money I just spent, provided I return the Boost phone I just bought. so:
in general, how good is this phone? I noticed it seemed smooth and lagless in store, but of course that's just a store model without a bunch of additional apps from the market. I'm mostly wondering if Sense causes problems at all regarding compatibility with any apps, or stability problems that wouldn't be expected to happen on a stock 2.3 rom. I have a stock 2.3 phone now, so that could be a risky change; however, this phone I have is only $230 new, single core, and is known for a screen sensitivity problem that may get worse on my handset, but may not.
also, could I expect any problems or side effects from rooting? one of my goals in that, if I get the MT4GS, will be to quickly turn the "genius" button into a search button. that cause problems for anyone? I did the same thing on the Sidekick, and sometimes it worked, sometimes not. but it may have just been that particular phone.

I'm doubting an official release of ICS for the Thunderbolt. I'm hoping for HTC to release more sources so that we can just build it ourselves.
And as far as those two phones go, get the DNA. Or wait until February and get the HTC M7.

the only downfall with the dna in my opinion is that HTC makes it
now im not a htc hater, in fact they are the company that make me jump on the android ship, and ive loved them until I had the thunderbolt, rezound and incredible 4g
with the lack of updates from HTC im affraid to get the DNA, the best comparison is the droid razr and rezound; the razr has 4.1 ready to roll out in early Q1 2013 (there was an "accidental" ota update a few weeks back that gave a few hundred uses android 4.1, and motorola confirmed android 4.1 in early Q1) where the HTC rezound may get 4.1 but it will prolly be around june- and I honestly think thats on the early side.
but If HTC shows better upgrades ide jump over there to the DNA right now
Well if it makes you feel any better. The DNA already has sources out for it and it had them released the first couple of weeks of its release. It is very unlikely that a phone with the power that the dna has won't get updates. The problem the thunderbolt has had the whole time is dual core phones were right around the corner when it was made and HTC blew it off for more powerful hardware.

Oh and on another note. Verizon is partially to blame for the lack of support and ics on this device. They keep stonewalling the update because I think they know we still have unlimited and they want us off of it. If they give us the update then it is unlikely we will upgrade anytime soon. You also can't forget that this phone was the first from Verizon that has the svdo capability which the source to that has been kept under lock and key for quite some time now. I think that Verizon is protecting that info because they may resurrect it later on. This and the rezound are the only two phones that are able to talk and surf even on 3g. The others that are able to do this use volte (voice over lte) which only works with 4g.

As much as I hate using my tbolt everyday....I will be holding on to the tbolt until the next nexus phone is released for Verizon. I've had an update available for a while and would gladly go get a S3 but the tbolt experience has pushed me to the point of...nexus or nothing from here on out.
Never realized how slow my TB is until I got a Nexus 7.
Anyway, I'm waiting for either the Galaxy S4 or the next Google/Moto phone. Maybe the HTC M7, depending on when the others are available.

Probably going to be waiting awhile... There is a reason you don't see the nexus4 on Verizon

I don't know why everyone insists on blaming HTC for lack of updates on the Thunderbolt.
It's not entirely in their hands, or I believe we would have had it long ago.
The biggest issue is actually the network itself and is what's held up many updates for various devices, in my opinion.
If you think a Nexus on VZW will make things different, THINK AGAIN.(I urge you to read the link)
No matter how good or common, or baseline a device may seem to be, it will never make the carrier any better.
Verizon just plain old SUCKS at getting updates out.

and it wont change. ever. they have moved away from customer support because they don't need to worry about happy customers if they already have them tied down for two years. and all those issues people have disappear when its time to upgrade and the consumer is happy again. then the cycle begins again

thanks for the feedback everyone!
I know HTC isnt just to blame, BUT if you look at apple for instance (sorry for bringing them up) they can do what they want with their phones, and the carriers can pretty much shove it if they dont like it.
now my question is this, why can apple do what they want (ex no bloatware, and updates whenever they see fit) and android companies (HTC, LG, Samsung, And even Google with the case of a nexus) cant?
I left my Thunderbolt for a Galaxy Note II and I absolutely love it. It is the perfect size for me, and it still manages to sit comfortably in my pockets. The phone overall is excellent, but the two features that stand out are the stylus and the battery life.
I did not consider getting the DNA because it has an inferior screen (resolution aside,) and the battery life has been reported to be horrendous. I would say either the Note II or the GS3 are both very safe bets if you are looking to get a new phone.
As soon as my upgrade was up, I left my HTC Thunderbolt for a Samsung Galaxy Note II. I've waiting way too long for HTC or Verizon to update this phone. I've read article after article and posted on HTC's Facebook pages and no response. They've lost me as a customer (HTC, not Verizon; I'm not giving up my unlimited data!).
I suggest the Samsung SIII or the Samsung GNII. I love my Note II and think the Thunderbolt is soooooo tiny after using it (just took a look at my Thunderbolt 5 minutes ago to see what I can do with it without any service on it).
While I'm not ecstatic about HTC, I feel like Verizon is to blame here. Just look at how their policies are for everything else.
For all of you crowing about unlimited, you realize you are paying a monthly rate which includeds a phone subsidy right? Except, you get no phone. It's like "How about you pay full price for a phone, and then pay a higher rate as though you actually got a phone for free." Ooooo sign me up!
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but Verizon is getting lots of blood from you for the sake of unlimited. If you have the money, I guess its one thing, but OTOH, if money werent an issue, you wouldn't care about overage fees.
Duely blundered from my thunderdolt.

I have two phones with unlimited data on my plan and if I took the share everything plan I would end paying $40 more a month and get less data than I actually need. Plus I still wouldn't get one of those phone subsidies you're talking about since I'm not eligible for upgrade for a while so I would definitely pay full retail for a phone before I lost unlimited. Also there are plenty of phones I could buy used that are excellent for half the price of retail or better.

I'm leaning towards the S4 myself. I'm done with HTC. Got a Tab 2 and I absolutely love Samsung

All vzw customers will eventually lose unlimited data. They won't let you keep it forever. Mark my words

Just like other guy stated I would be paying more if I went on share everything plan I don't use a crazy amount of data but 13-20 GB a month is where I sit. I am hoping Google releases a phone every year like the upcoming xphone so I can buy it off the play store, if they are in stock that is. But I will hold onto my unlimited data as long as I can cause their share everything plan is a joke, $40 for a smart phone access fee equals $29.99+$9.99 which is what we were already paying to buy the unlimited or 2gb or 4gb all they did was slap a two cent raise and hoped no one would notice. I noticed jerks!!!!

HTC deserves some blame too - it seems like they gave the update to Verizon around September, which is still ten or eleven months after ICS was released.

That is true but how can we expect a company to push out an ota for a one year old device that probably 95% of the purchasers moved to a different device. We should all be happy that they got their crap together enough to give us this last one.
