MT4GS will not wake up using Virtuous Inquisition 4.0.2 - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

I recently downloaded virtuous inquisition on my mytouch 4g slide. I have an intermediate understanding of computers and was able to install the ROM and am quite happy with the experience it offers. I however have began to experience my phone freezing and not waking up. While I am usually able to have the phone enter and exit sleep mode no problem, sometimes when I press the power button to enter sleep mode, the screen will go black, but the backlight on the physical keys and slide out keyboard will remain on. Pressing the power button will not turn off the backlight or bring the screen back from sleep mode. Interesting to note that when I call my phone while in this state it will still ring and vibrate, however the screen will still not light up and I can not answer. The green notification light will also still blink. The only way I found to get out of this state is to physically pop out the battery and then restart. I was not experiencing this problem with stock ROM. Thanks for your help!

Do you have Revolutionary S-Off or do you have the new bootloader that is HTCdev unlocked & S-on?

When this happens see if trackpad wake works. I know on cm9 when I have sleep of death the trackpad wakes it right up

I just got my MT4GS about a month ago and am running the new S-on 1.45.0013 version unlocked by using Hasoon2000's tool at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1532809

While both my trackpad and power button worked to wake up while in stock, only my power button worked from day 1 when I started using Virtuous Inquisition. My trackpad activated nothing while in sleep mode. I assumed this was just a normal part of the ROM?

When you installed your ROM did you do full wipes and then fastboot flash boot boot.img to seperately install your kernel? If not, that'll mess up tons of different stuff.

Yes, I did wipes to system data, catche, and Dalvik catche in CWM all directly before installing the ROM. Right after I installed the .zip file, I flashed the boot.img file in fastboot.

That just DOESN'T sound like anything my wife or me have ever experience on VI. It's always been one of the most stable ICS ROMs either of us has ever used. AMAZING battery life too. VERY strange! Are you running extreme OC or anything that might make it unstable? If not, that one just stumps me. ....maybe UV?

No, I am not even OC because I have found the speeds when running VI on my phone to be fast enough and fine. Overall, I would agree that VI is extremely stable and have not found really any other major glitches. Only the minor tethering and camera glitches that they disclose when downloading. In someways this makes me inclined to think it could possibly be hardware, however I find it strange that I never have this particular problem in stock ROM.

Maybe it's just a timing issue in that the hardware issue arose after changing ROMs. Possible a packet got corrupted during the download. Maybe redownload and flash over what you have now? I just don't know.
Why don't you make a nand if that doesn't work and then flash MikTouch. It's stock just debloated & rooted. Maybe that will give you some indication that you aren't getting right now.
It may BE as simple as a hardware issue. Not good by any means but it may pinpoint it.

VI Blackouts
VI w/the GB kernel 2.6 would blackout like that from my experience. Check the third post on rootz and load the v3 beta kernel. I used VI for a few months, until I switched to CM9. I think I only blacked out once during that time with that kernel.

Hi,
What version did you install?
3.6.8 or 4.1.8?
Did you do a MD5 checksum?
Did you super wipe?
Did you add any mods?
If you want help, you need to post more information...
Hi i had the same sort of problem with my ARHD but I find out that the faux kernel was causing for difficulties.
Installed a stock kernel and all problems solved.
Still respect all developers
did a the super wipe, did a md5 checksum, and didnt do any mods, and it arhd 3.6.8

Hi,
It does sound like a kernel problem.
Try the kernel in my signature.
Absolutely no problems there.
ill try the stock kernel thanks to all
phone:htc senation
So I've tried the stock kernel I even tried flashing arhd 3 times as I read that sometimes on the third try everything works right but no luck so if I can't get it working properly I'm going to try another Rom but I was thinking could the problem be daemon controller...any digestions would be very appreciated

Recently flashed arhd 3.6.8 and I am having similar problems. More often than not, i will lose responsiveness with the touchscreen and have to pull battery. Also my phone randomly reboots and restarts. Can someone tell me how to fix this???

try flashing the kernel in my sig, this sounds like a kernel problem. theres a new ARHD 3.6.9 but the kernel in my sig is newer than the included kernel, hopefully this should fix it for u..
I sold a Sensation ebay with this same rom, and the buyer is reporting the exact same issuse you are having. I think there might be something going on here.
Up the minimum sleep clock speed to 384000 or 432000. the cpu is too idle to react properly and this should fix it. I had the same issues with Faux & Bricked kernels until I did this. No problems at all now.

Daemon Controller comes with Revolution HD roms.
Run the app and you can see the options for setting the clock speed of your CPU while active and idle.
If you do flash a new Kernel you should generally be OK without a wipe/factory reset, though make sure you do a NAND backup via clockworkmod first.
Flashing the Kernel works in exactly the same way as flashing a Rom, via clockworkmod (or whatever recovery tool you use - EXT4?) - Download the new kernel to your SD card and install from there.
If you get the latest version of the ROM it will have the latest Faux Kernel in anyway, so maybe it's worth trying that? - again you should have no need to wipe/factory reset unless your moving from 3.6.x to 4.1.x Roms (different base android versions 2.3.4 vs 2.3.5)
Like I say, I used to suffer from the same issues with the screen not responding to wakeup but since I upped the clock speed for idle (and recent updates do this by default now) It hasn't happened since

[Q] Can't turn screen back on after hitting the power button in the camera app

This is doing my head in to the point I have borrowed a new HTC Sensation only to find the problem exists on this phone also.
When using the Camera App If I hit the power button the screen turns off. I am then unable to switch the screen back on - It appears the phone crashes.
Behaviour some times differs depending whether I have taken a photo or not.
The following behaviour is observed:
The lights stay illuminate on the soft keys at the bottom of the screen.
The phone can receive calls how ever it doesn't ring and I unable to answer them.
This problem is confirmed on 2 seperate devices which have been flashed with:
Android Revolution HD 3.6.12
10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2 radio
I have also run super wipe on the phone before installing the HD Rom.
Please help!?
Ive also had this problem on a few diffrent roms.
But i flashed amaze camara update, and not had any prob since.
Im now running the latest ICS with sense, with what ever camara software came with the rom. And not had any problem

Having the same issues on both mine and my wives phones, both running AR 3.6.11 along with lag and other issues! Pretty fed up - and considering a different ROM. How is the ICS ROM, any issues like the 3.6.11? Is it hard to install?
I would try Elegancia ICS. Maybe a little pain to install, if you need to update your firmware.

Have a read of the last 10 pages or so of the ICS thread for superCID info if your stuck, but it is easy.
I will give it a try! Do you just download the zip firmware and flash it?
It's not a rom problem, it is faux's kernel problem.
You can flash bricked kernel to solve.

Put the img zip directly on the SD card, not in any folder.
Boot the phone in to bootloader Power on volume down same time.
Just follow the instructions.
DO NOT POWER OFF REMOVE BATTERY ETC.
You will have to remove file from memory card before rebooting.
If you fail with the upload, then you will have to superCID

ICS-based ROMs just turn off

Hi guys, please tell me what the heck I am doing wrong with ICS ROMs because I just feel powerless.
Tried some time ago OnceICS ROM (on 3.12 firmware), then switched to Virtuous Inquisition, then Virtuous Quattro (3.24 firmware) and now I'm on newest OnceICS on 3.24 unlocked firmware.
Every ROM change was dictated by the fact that my ROM kept turning off very randomly - on data transfer (I guess), after sending/receiving SMS, before/after phonecall - no rule, once it worked, another time I had like 10 turn offs per hour. Can't even do a logcat because it mostly happens when I'm out of home, where the signal can or is lower than at home (where I have full and barely no turn offs).
Every ROM change I hope this one gonna work but the problem still remains.
Sitting on supercid, did wipes, superwipes, fix permissions, battery wipe, no OC kernels, changed recovery to 4ext touch..
I flashed OnceICS yesterday I thought it is finally fine. But today it started rebooting like every before. probably today I will flash just once a sense rom like insertcoin, but I have no hope.
What is wrong with my phone? :\
insert-coin is not a de-sensed ROM
Did you by any chance restore data from a backup after flashing the ROM because this can often cause this sort of bugs
Whoops I meant "sense rom like insertcoin" because I tried roms with sense stripped out.
I do not restore data, I do titanium backup, sometimes use it to restore some apps but none of system stuff (contacts are synced by google, sms are restored by Go SMS Pro, everything else I configure on every reinstall). Like right now, I have plain OnceICS with only few apps installed from market but I had turn offs before I installed them too so I don't think they are the problem here :\
Maybe you should install a factory ROM first, to look if it solves your problem..?

Agreed, try a Gingerbread ROM then you can figure out whether it's an ICS problem alone or possibly hardware related.
Yeah I will probably install gingerbread :/ But, damn, ICS is awesome, I like it very much, especially the way it behaves and looks. It's sad I need to go back to gingerbread
Don't give up, if Gingerbread runs well, just try again (maybe another) ICS ROM.

It's a bummer but if it's a hardware fault best to find it and get it sorted IMO.
It was fine before I switched to ICS. But ok, tomorrow morining, gingerbread strike back. What's the best 2.3 ROM right now? Because there is quite a mess in "android development" forums because of ICS.

I know you said you did all these things but it wont hurt at this point to double check yourself and make sure everything is done correctly. I have had my sensation since June and have been rooted since july so I thought I knew everything there was to know about this phone. turns out I didnt lol and I still dont know what I missed but after I follwed this guide step by step I was able to load ARHD 6.1 without any issues. I have been auto off free for 3 days and counting.
and if that dosent work you can still go back to GB and ARHD has a nice rom for that as well. Good Luck

I'm on 3.12 F/W and happily run Virtuous Inquisition (or Quattro) and CM7 on the phone.
All the ICS based ROMs are a bit un-stable as they're based on un-released binaries from HTC. As you might tell from the ROMs I listed I'm more into AOSP based ones than Sense ones.
The battery life I have now is better than ever, TBH not certain if that's ICS, Radio or F/W.

Thanks for answers, I gave up for now, switched to 1.17 fw and cm7. I miss ICS
So far it works fine but not as smooth as ICS. But the most I miss rotation animation
Jesus, what is going on :\ I'm on CM7 right now and it can turn off as well :\ Tomorrow I will install stock rom... Before I started playing with ICS everything was fine, no turn offs :\
If I were in your shoes I would reflash the RUU for your device and rule out a hardware failure. Not to mention if anything is left over from all of your flashes it can lead to problems. Just start over, don't ask for help and then be stubborn about the suggested solutions.
OK I will do so
I was about to post a thread but google pointed me here. I have the EXACT same problem as you do Cliff. I highly doubt it is caused by hardware, and as Tez recommended I followed that guide verbatim. Still having problems. It's so frustrating because I LOVE ICS.
Right now I'm on stock ROM, dedicated to my phone (rubbish Orange PL branding etc.), rooted it just to restore some games.
and it still can turn off from time to time :\ I've had no such issue before trying ICS. Dunno what else I can do.
For me, it's starting to seem more and more like the battery stats are way off. But no matter how many times I wipe them and try to re-calibrate, it still gets way off within a day or two.
Cliff, did your percentages jump around each time you turned your phone back on?
I have these problems too !! I'm going to s off and send to HTC

[Q] Mytouch Lite 1.2.3 or Crack Injected 5.1.0

I personally have nothing but random reboots/bootloops on all of "UndeadK9's" ROMs. Some ppl say this as well, others swear its the most stable ROM out there.
MT4GS Lite 1.2.3 is going to be extremely stable... But Bulletproof uses the same ROM base and its awesome with stability and battery life with newly implemented UV/OC kernels.
Very active/ helpful dev who knows his stuff on Bulletproof.
Not trying to tell u Lite won't be stable, but bulletproof will b just as/ if not more stable and battery life will prob b better.
Just my spare change.
I recommend Bulletproof. However I dislike the green hue, so I just copied and pasted all the apk's I wished to replace from Lite.
Some of the rom threads in the dev group are freakin massive(random) any way... thinking about trying out bulletproof im reading good things, but right on the newly updated thread it seems to say s-on may be a problem.
Can somebody clarify if im using the fast boot method to flash a new boot.img prior to flashing a new rom, should i worry about not having s-off?
Side note when if at all should i be wiping the data prior to flashing a new rom?
Out of those two I suggest Rubix expresso 1.3 over on Rootz. It is the final iteration of Crack Injected. It is my go to ROM when I want to get back from the bleeding edge and go to software that just works. I have links to it on the Rootz threaad as the other links are dead. Flash 1.2 then 1.3 to get set.
It is very close to Bulletproof but it's tweaked slightly in a couple of places. Bulletproof is great too.

Nope, s-on (unlocked) is no problem. Now that I was able to figure out how to set one of my doubleshots back to S-ON and then unlock it through HTC, i'm running fine and you should have no issues.
I will be supplying a new kernel for bulletproof when I get a chance to update the ROM again, meantime it's still the stock kernel in it but with an insecure boot image.
If you have issues right after flashing (wifi doesn't work) then you'll have to flash the kernel separately through fastboot, but again, for S-ON unlocked this is no problem.
----
You should always wipe your data and cache between ROMs, but on bulletproof (and any script i've ever released, actually) I handle all that for you so you can just flash and go.
I just think it's just good coding practice for the developer to take care of this step instead of leaving it up to the chance of the user not doing it.

[Q] Does rooting & custom rom help speed up the TF??

I got my tablet a week ago, it started off decent, but after a few days with several apps installed and nothing removed it started to slow down, crash apps constantly, and frozen screen till I hold power button to force power down. So I wanna know if it will help speed it up and not cause all these issues. Overall its a wonderful tablet just those issues are a major inconvenience for my school app University of Phoenix.
Also with this being new fresh out of the box. Would the hardware inside cause any issues with Rooting. I had that issue once before on the HTC Evo Shift back in August where I just got it on the new update that would brick if i tried to root.
Yes custom roms generally improve speed and no there is no brick update Vipermod works for the latest firmware without issue
ok thank you very much! Im just concerned about rooting this one. I like it as is except those frequent crashes and the horrible slow speed.
rooting, not so much, but custom ROMs really have a huge impact, and custom kernels allow overclocking, which REALLY speeds your device up. More than anything, simply replacing your kernel with one that can be overclocked will increase your speed..compared to the speed increase gained from this the custom ROM speed increase is fairly small.

The new o/c kernel made from roaches sources has been the best for me so far and when frozn is released it will be good with regular updates but revolver has always been pretty good to
Things are changing quickly at the moment so now is not the best time to find a rock solid custom set up or say a certain set up is best

I think most OC kernels are in testing phase right now?
But they should be pretty much stable unless you are overclocking to maximum frequency.
You don't really need to OC for normal usage, including playing games like Angry Birds. If it's not working, it's for reasons other than the CPU's speed.
I would recommend CM9 for ROM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525148
It benchmarked really high compared to other ROMs and is really stable.

no its not. so i thought i would root it to see if i can FIX this issue. usually works that way some times. i do know that it worked fine when i got my tablet. i avoided the stupid update but it annoyed me enough so i did it. thats when this started happening.
did you factory reset before updating?
Angry birds has been crashing for me too, I think it's a problem with the app or Asus' ICS ROM, I just installed it clean so no factory reset needed. Also, agree with Danzano, not the best time to upgrade considering a new update just dropped and introduced tons of new issues and things to do..unfortunately Honeycomb was in a much later phase of 'stable', but ICS is just so sweet lol. I think it's stable ENOUGH for me..a reboot every now and then doesn't keep me from using it.

Rooting is just elevated privileges and won't necessarily speed or slow anything. A custom ROM, on the other hand, can speed things up with various tweaks and customizations. Most custom ROMs require root, for privileges.

You probably should have.
If you want to fix things right now, flash a good custom AOSP rom like CM9. Make sure to do all the needed data wipes in CWM before flashing.
Only thing you will be missing from stock Asus rom is a few apps and widgets made by Asus. What you will gain is MUCH MUCH more.
Ok well thanks for the info. But which rooting method should i use on the newest update???

1. You root with this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427125
2. Once you have root, you install CWM with this app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346180 It will install a fairly recent version of CWM that still works.
3. Optional: If you want to update your CWM to the latest version, you flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213723
4. Use CWM to flash whatever ROM you want.
