multiple sms alert tones as well as notications...??? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

My s3 is totally stock. But for some reason everytime I receive a text message my phone makes two different alert tones. It also shows I still have an unread text in the notification pull done screen. How do I stop it from notifying me twice?

You have two messaging apps probably. Go in the one you don't use and uncheck notifications.

Ive only downloaded flickr app so far. That's it...I don't get it???

So when you tap on the duplicate notification what pops up?

When I tap the notification (shown in my first post screen shot), nothing happens. But I can clear it out.

Only thing I can think of since I don't recognize the icon, is to do a logcat. Unless somebody else here can tell you what it is....

Notification tones

Anyone else have issues with zedge notification tones not sticking? I have one I downloaded selected but when I get an email or text a default system one plays. Any ideas?

You have to manually set those by going into each and apply it in their settings. Like for the text, open up messages, click menu and go into settings and change the tone all the way at the bottom of the menu. Same applies for the email

That worked, thanks man.

That's odd. My boss has an infuse and he doesn't have to set them each manually. He's able to just set his notification tone in either sedge or in settings and it works for texts and email.

Happened to me too. I set the one in settings, but it only worked for general notifications, not text. That one I had to go the setting in the message app itself, which I thought was weird.
But then I thought about it and it makes sense. If you want to have multiple sounds for different types of notifications.

[Q] Better messaging app??

Can anyone suggest a better messaging application which should not show the content of message in notification bar? I was using GO SMS Pro but now its too much bloated and doesn't works properly.

Love this app. It's smooth and is more secure then stock SMS and MMS. And it dose not display message content in notification.

I read that it encrypts the messages on phone. So when I am uninstalling it, does it decrypts it for normal use??
No:/ sadly I uninstalled it and it removed all me messages

That's the sad part of this app. Once you are using it, you have to continuously use it.

Yeah but thankfully I have no important texts. And you could always forward them to your email if you wanted to remove them haha but that is a lot of work

I still get them.
I'm using Enhanced Email App.
But the notifications are still in the status
I have the same problem with Gmail. Not only I don't get the notifications but it doesn't auto synchronize.
The same thing on my Note 2.
I added the gmail account to AquaMail, witch I am using for my business mail, and its OK now.
Ok so I seem to have fixed my notifications issue. Here is what I did
Settings > select your Gmail account > Sound & Vibrate
Then make sure that Inbox has notifications enabled as well as Inbox under the "Recent Lables"
In my case under the Recent Labels I did not have notifications enabled.

What am I missing - expandable notifications

Ok, I'm sure I'm missing something here but I can't for the life of me figure it out. I cannot get expandable notifications working. Running the stock Verizon update from yesterday, not rooted. I've tried it in both touchwiz and go launcher. If I get a notification for multiple gmail messages it shows as a single notification showing the number of messages. If I try to swipe up or down (with either 1 finger or 2) nothing happens. Swiping to the side clears the notification same as on ics. Pressing and holding on the notification pops up an app info box. I've been sending myself emails and texts all day trying to figure this out. Am I missing something or am I due for a factory reset?
Thanks in advance.

Two finger pinch will expand or hide notifications.

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't know if it was the battery pull, cache wipe, or if I was just doing it wrong but I have it working now. Swipe up/down doesn't expand/contact and neither does a vertical pinch but a horizontal pinch seems to work. Very touchy though. Nothing like what I've seen in videos.
Thanks again.

Is your expanded notification for Text messages working? I can pinch to expand but it doesn't show any options such as 'reply' or 'call' and it's just black space. However, expanded notification for calls and emails seem to work.
I get no options when I expand text notifications. I also have to pinch horizontally (like with all my other notifications) to get it to expand. Is anyone else able to expand by swiping down with two fingers or pinching vertically?

Nope, Samsung changed that unnecessarily on VRBLK3.

I have been asking the same question and have yet to get an answer from anyone. Are we supposed to have a a quick reply option from the notification?

Compact notifications?

Hello. Since I don't know when, my expqnded notifications appear like this picture. It's not just on WhatsApp but on all apps. I can expand them by long pressing each notification but it's annoying. Any way to disable it?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I imagine it compresses like that because of the other toggles you have installed at the top.
When one notification is present it displays it in full, with multiple it will shorten them, you can click and hold on the notification and drag it down to expand.
Wow, didn't even though about that but yes, that's what happens. Thank you very much!
