I can't install Froyo on my MyTouch 4G - myTouch 4G General

Okay, I've been following the guide from @Setherio's guide on how to downgrade and root the HTC MyTouch 4G from Gingerbread to Froyo and I get stuck at trying to downgrade the firmware to Froyo. No matter what I do, manual or fastboot, it fails and doesn't want to downgrade at all. I downloaded the PD15IMG file from the first link that directs to Dev-Host, and tried different files and they don't seem to work. They all fail. What can I do? Is it that I got a SIM Subsidy code from T-Mobile that's making it fail?
I have a MyTouch 4G Red color, Gingerbread on 2.3.4, SIM unlocked.
P.S.- I tried to post this on the guide, but it says that I need more posts to post in the developing section, so bare with me.

Copy/paste the commands.
Sometimes the commands go outside the code window space, so drag your cursor a little ways to the right when copying commands.

Thanks!
Thank you! I copied and pasted the code slower and I finally got it downgraded, rooted, and on AOKP's ROM. Good looking out, I can't thank you enough, lol. Such a noob mistake, but yeah.

Glad you got it!

Lol I couldnt tell you how many times I typed all the commands out in adb when I downgraded.....I think I gave up for a couple days and then the next time I sat at my computer I was like "copy/paste=success:good:!! Glad you are rooted now.

Ikr, I had my MyTouch for almost 3 weeks now, and it FINALLY worked. Good looking out guys.

Flased 2.1 RUU, can't root, can't use ADB

I flashed the 2.1 RUU that was floating around a couple weeks ago. Well now, I can not get any PC to recognize my Hero. I cant mount or use ADB and I'm stuck with this BS 2.1 RUU..Can anyone help PLEASE!!
I thought all the threads that had the 2.1 RUU said that we couldn't get root on it yet, and that it was really posted for devs only.
Your best bet right now is to find some way to conveniently "break" your phone and get a replacement.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668905
I could be wrong, but I think that was for development only not ready for a phone.

No, your right - some people have had a hard time reading all of the threds about what that does to you phone. Research pays dividens in the long run.
Key thing to remember: Don't flash a rom unless it has a funny name.
gbhil tweeted this a few weeks back as a way to restore after using the leaked 2.1 RUU... I think it'll help you out:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...pair-your-bootloader-after-using-2-1-ruu.html
Key advice (as mentioned above): ALWAYS read the warnings before flashing something.
i would never RUU my hero after all of the issues that have been reported. best bet is to make a backup of your stock hero rom before flashing any custom one.

And don't use an RUU with the word "test" in it.

I too ran the RUU running around but was able to root my phone using the info in the links that "Is_907" and "Kcarpenter" provided. Now I'm running DamageControl v2.07.2 ROM on my Sprint HTC Hero.
Hope it helps you as much as it helped me.

I used that method about a week ago, work great in about 5 mins I was back to full root and flashing 2.1 roms again!
Using only an SD card this method will restore your old boot loader >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=657086
I ran the ruu for the new PRI version, but I was able to root it the same ol' way and have installed 10 different ROMs in the last two weeks.
Just recently I wanted to revert my PRI and boot loader to single out a problem I was having and used the above method. I was able to return my phone to complete stock without running any ruu as described in the link above.
Glad that link helped some people out...
Basically, if gbhil posts something, I trust it.
thanks a lot..to those who actually helped, I'm trying this out now..Ive flashed RUUs before and test ROMs for over a half a decade..
someone one this forum said the RUU came pre-rooted..

New Root Method for *ALL* HTC 2.1 Android Phones

http://forum.androidspin.com/showthread.php?t=2757
The link above is for instructions claimed to work with all HTC 2.1 Android handsets. I've been trying to get this to work on my Hero but I keep getting stuck at step 7 with my phone offline and unplugg/replug USB does not change it from offline to recovery. Anyone else have luck with this?
why not use unrevoked or the the how to here
Won't work for me. I'm not using Sprint and my build number is newer than Sprints so I can't flash it.

bummer.. well i would ask the op of the root method on that other forum. i haven't got a clue about that root method.
Check out Droiddog.com site, they've posted a video (actually a two parter) on this rooting method... It is not easy.
I'm pretty sure you can just flash the RUU that has test-keys, and then root that.
Use Regaw's
Like mrinehart93 said, just downgrade to the RUU ending in .5, then follow these instructions.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
If you follow them exactly you will end up with rooted stock 2.1 with that same RUU. I actually just rooted for the first time except loaded this ROM, which is stock using the updated RUU.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=703267
Good luck.
dosnt look easy though !!
I appreciate the responses so far but you all still don't understand. I'm not a Sprint customer, and my current software version is 2.36.556.1. I CAN'T downgrade to one of Sprint's RUUs (already tried just for kicks).

just tried, step 7 adb devices and nothing i dont get any kind of recovery menu. only the initial white screen recovery, no offline device menu
I'm thinking that the problem is Windows not executing the adb devices command fast enough. I'll have to try this again later booted into OS X or Ubuntu.

Can I still root my phone?

I had my phone (HTC HERO) rooted and it worked great then my phone was stolen. When the replacement came in I rooted it first thing with fresh 2.1.2 but my phone would not receive or make calls.
So then I had to run the 1.5 RUU to get back to stock thinking I was going to have to get some warrant work. Well that bricked my phone getting the 110 error that many other seem to get too.
I found the fix, and opened command prompt and ran fastboot oem boot. This fixed my phone and I was back running 1.5
After testing my phone, I seen that it made calls with not problem and it was the fresh rom that was messing my phone up. I decided I would not root my phone again, instead just install the 2.1 update. I tried to update through the phone but it did not work so I downloaded the 2.1 RUU and ran it.
I've been using the 2.1 update now for a week and I am unsatisfied. It is incredibly slow compared to my rooted phone. I tried using fresh kitchen to root my phone but it says I have a custom room and fails. (I thought running the 2.1 RUU was like a factory update?)
Anyways, is there a way for my to root my phone again? I am stuck and not sure what to do.
Sorry for the wall of text.
... which phone?
Post it in the forum for the appropriate phone or nobody will know what to tell ya.
Sorry, I'm new to the forums and a little lost.

[Q] Returning to stock from Gingerbread-shipped Inspire 4G

Long ago, when I bought my Inspire 4G, my intent was to root it and install custom ROMs. With the old process using CMD to create a Gold Card, I also somehow created a file called "PD98IMG.zip". What I have learned is that, when on the SD card, when I place my phone into HBOOT, it will return to whatever that zip is, which is my stock rom. I'm not sure how I acquired it, but whatever.
Just in the last month or so, I dropped my phone in a toilet (don't ask), and I got it replaced with a new Inspire 4G. I was lucky that I had the water damage warranty. I went to go and root it like two days after I got it, only to discover that the old process didn't exist anymore, and wouldn't have worked with my Gingerbread-shipped Inspire 4G anyways. So I went off and used the Ace Hack Kit (worked flawlessly) and have been enjoying my time with the recently uploaded ICS ROM.
But when it comes to to get my phone replaced again (water damage, stolen, dropped, broken camera, broken volume or lock keys, etc.), will the "PD98IMG.zip" I had before work on my new device to put it back to stock? Or will this new device not accept a ROM from an older phone? And if so, what are my options for returning to the stock ROM using HBOOT?
Also, while I'm on HBOOT, does the said program worked on bricked devices? I would imagine you could access it anytime with the normal volume down+lock button, right, regardless of whether or not the device is bricked?
Thanks for reading this entire thing, I just like being really specific!
Jake Root
Haven't tried yet as I don't have reason too...but for educational purposes watch this to give you an exact idea of what said program is capable of...and always make sure using the latest version.

Most likely the older PD98IMG is for the froyo OS. I know they changed something in the Inspires after august and it may not work correctly with your newer made phone. Also just running that file will not give you s-on anyways. So just forget it.
Just use the Advanced Ace Hack Kit. It can download the appropriate ROM and return your phone back to s-on. It is all you will need.
I appreciate the responses guys. Agoattamer, do you know if, running the Ace Hack Kit, there is a menu option in the hack-ace.cmd for returning to stock Android Gingerbread? I was reading the effin' manual, but because I am kind of a n00b, I only sort of understood it. I read the following:
Flash Gingerbread Update
Flash AT&T RUU 2.47.502.7_26.10.04.03_M
I have no idea what that means. Is this a menu option in the cmd?
Thanks again, I really don't want to screw anything up.
Cheers,
Jake
P.s. What is RUU? I keep seeing it but I'm not sure of its meaning.
Yes the hack kit has a menu for returning to stock. Ruu stands for rom update utility. Its essentially the program used to flash a stock image(where the pd98img comes from)
Check out the video see how the menu options look like.

If you read the first post of the Advanced Ace Hack Kit thread (yes you have to read the first post and the effen manual) you will even see pics of the menu mentioned. We can't stress enough here on XDA, especially if you are new. Read, Read, Read.
So if I ever need s-on and return to stock I can just use the ace hack kit? Will it be just like the rooting process where it just does it for you? Sorry kinda new

This is also a way to return to stock using a pd98img. Different method, same end result
genes tool
Just select gb version.

Agoattamer, you are correct. I didn't look at that video close enough. I think I began watching it, and I thought it was something else, so I stopped and went on my way. Fatal mistake on my part.

[Q] [Help] getting my Inspire 4G back to stock

I had a ATT inspire 4G running on android 2.2
I rooted and installed CWS with easy ace root. worked perfectly
then following another guide I found, I tried to flash update-aospX-1.0.0-AR26-DesireHD-signed using recovery.
But my phone was stuck on the white HTC screen and didn't go anywhere. Trying to solve this issue I wiped everything with recovery and flashed this: GizRoot_v_2 (1) which I found on this forum as a rom made similar to the stock rom. this worked and now phone was good but the guide did say to change the radio.
I tried to update my radio via hboot with sd card, but it always got stuck on the installing part and never finished. After researching it the problem was that I am still S-ON and you cant change radios while S-on?
I have spent 4+ hours googling and researching I have about 12 tabs open with different guides. I am very frustrated at this point
I Have a inspire 4g phone that works but the radio doesn't work. 1st it would connect to the movil network of the carrier but the wifi did work. I changed the simcard to another provider and it did work calls were made and internet data worked. but now wifi doesn't work!
I would like to have the phone back to factory setting and stock att rom. how can I do this, I used a RUU exe, but it always said error connecting to the phone. the RUU is RUU_Ace_Cingular_US_1.80.502.3_Radio_12.39.60.19_26.06.04.06_M_release_166557_signed
or maybe I am doing it wrong?
help please
edit: I booted phone to fastrecovery usb and ran the RUU.exe again, this time it went all the way to wiping and sending then it said an unknown error occurred right after updating signature and sent me to error recovery step 0, followed prompts but nothing worked
Flash boot.img from fastboot. Read the Ace Think Tank in Desire HD General for details.
steps
Ok
So.
I booted into recovery, wiped data and factory reset, wiped cache partition, wiped dalvik cache
installed from sd card update-aospX-1.0.0-AR30-DesireHD-signed. rebooted device into fastboot, connected usb cable.
downloaded android-win-tools and extracted into one folder. I also extracted the boot.img from update-aospX-1.0.0-AR30-DesireHD-signed into the same folder.
I opened a cmd window, went to said directory. typed fastboot.exe then fastboot devices. my device is there, then I did fastboot flash boot boot.img sending boot, writing boot ok.. did fastboot reboot...
and HOLY **** IT WORKS...
I still have to test wifi gps calls etc
EDIT: WIFI WORKS, GPS WORKS BLUETOOTH TOOK A WHILE TO TURN ON BUT WORKS, and calls work! camera works yey!
MIUI on Inspire 4G
Hi,
I need something like that too.
I bought my phone from USA in 2011, Android 2,2, i think, and with MIUI on it, locked on AT&T and I use it in Europe.
I unlocked it here in Europe and everything was fine.
So, the phone started work slow and after 2 years of use it I didn't receive any system update. My husband bought one same model, no MIUI on it, but HTC Sense I think, AT&T locked, unlocked here, but he received the system update and worked fine.
Now, in my silly thinking, I started to look for update on Internet and I saw that the Android is already 4.2. and I have 2.2. And I said, man, that's why is not working so well.
So, I upgraded my phone to Android 4.2.2 JDQ39E - the most stupid thing I could do. Starting that day, my phone is freezing non-stop, it restarted itself while I am talking on the phone. The apps are not working well, are freezing often. I read on AT&T website that for my model, the last Android is not 4.2.2 at all, but it was too late.
I found out how to upgrade the MIUI and I did it. This is ok, but this MIUI it makes me cray. I don't like it at all.
I WANT TO GET RID OF MIUI AND PUT SOMETHING ELSE INSTEAD OF IT. And put the normal Android system that my phone support it well.
HOW I CAN DO THAT?
Please help me with some advices before I will creat a new model: HTC Inspire 4G smashed.
Thank you so much.

Uh mate, It's best to go back to Stock Roms for that. And Everytime you guys go upgrading and degrading Roms, It's best to make a backup image with Nandroid.
Easiest way to go back to stock is find the proper RUU's for your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385016
Pick one of these, Download the RUU, Plug in your phone and Let the App do it's magic.
And take note, It's going back to the STOCK.
After that, Use the AAHK tool or search around the forums to unlock and S-Off.
Good luck.
Thank you!
