[Q] Problem with 3G Band

Last year I bought my Defy in Germany (Vodafone) and over there the 3G connection worked perfectly fine, but I live in Colombia (South America) and my local operator (COMCEL) works only with 2G (GSM) 850/1900 Mhz and 3G 850 Mhz bands. According to the Vodafone Defy's technical features the phone is quadband (850/900/1800/1900 Mhz) but when I turn on the 3G connection in my Defy, the phone loses connection, apparently it only works on 2G bands (data and voice connectios work perfect but extremely slow!). I'd like to know if there's any problem with my Defy, or maybe I should install an other ROM or some patch or plugin to make the 3G connection work?
Thanks for your help!
There's a fix flashable zip in this section for whatever areas your in..

These aren't area fixes, they are fixes for phones from certain areas. A European Defy simply doesn't support 3G 850 MHz so that is a no go in Colombia. Sorry for the TS but that's just the way it is.
The European Defy is indeed quad band for GSM. UMTS is double band at 900 and 2100 MHz.

[Q]Changing 3g Bands

Hi,
i live in argentina, and i found i dont have 3g coverage.
bands in argentina are http://www.mobileworldlive.com/maps/network.php?cid=3206&cname=Argentina
Do anyone know if is there a way to config my xt720 to bands 850/1900?
tks!
There isn't anything to configure. The phone automatically defaults to the 850/1900 bands when 3G isn't available.
but if in my country bands ar 850/1900, why do i only have edge?

You probably won't ever get 3G due to different bands on the phone versus your country's. Edge only.

To expand on what the Rev said from what i know in North America all XT720s that were sold, were W-CDMA/AWS i.e. their 3G bands were 1700mhz down link and 2100mhz uplink. Although they did have quad band 2G i.e. GSM 850/900/1800/1900.
So if in Argentina they are using 3G frequencies 850mhz down link 1900mhz uplink then the xt720 will never get 3G HSPA, phones from the following carriers will work Telstra NextG phones (Australian), Rogers (Canadian), Bell New 3G (Canadian), Telus New 3G (Canadian), and AT&T (USA).
Hope this helps.

MZ601 is the 3G Xoom
MZ603 and MZ604 are the same, the WiFi Xoom
The MZ605 is also 3G. I know it is used in Latin markets, it may also be used in Europe.

+1
we have here in Australia the MZ601 (3G)
If I were to guess, only the 601 is quadband.
The MZ-605 sold in Brazil is also quadband:
GSM/UMTS: Bandas 850/900/1900/2100 WCDMA e 850/900/1800/1900 GSM - GPRS/EDGE Class 12, HSDPA 10.1 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
Hi,
Here in Brazil they are selling the MZ605 (3G, GSM) and the MZ604 (WIFI only).
The MZ605 seems to be very similar to the Euro (and Australian) MZ601, the MZ605 is actually able to support 1 additional band (WCDMA 1900), judging by the specs in Motorola Brazil and Motorola UK website.
The radio suport by the MZ605 (according to Motorola Brazil web site) is:
GSM/UMTS:
850/900/1900/2100 WCDMA
850/900/1800/1900 GSM
GPRS/EDGE Class 12, HSDPA 10.1 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
The MZ601 (according to Motorola UK, it dows not specify what is GSM and what is WCDMA):
GSM/3G/HSDPA/HSUPA;
850/900/1800/1900;
850/900/2100
Regards.
Noobie question:
If I install Tiamat ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254933) will it change the model from MZ605 to MZ601?
My provider only supports 850/1900mhz bands for 3g. would the mz601 work operate at 3g speeds or would I have to get the mz605 ? are there any physical differences between mz601 and the mz605 or is it firmware ? and will eos iCS work with the mz605 ?

[Q] TF101G - 3G Network bands?

I want to buy a tablet in USA market, i like Asus Transformer, but I need support for 3G Networks on North & South America.
Can't find official info about the supported frequency bands
TF101G supports UMTS 850/1900 ? (required for South America)
Thanks!
It's Quad band
http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_TF101G/#specifications
Thank you baseballfanz, you're right.
My confusion comes because Asus don't put frequencies in the specs:
Mobile broadband: GSM Quad bands, HSPA+ (I,II,V,VIII)
So, just for aclaration:
Band I (W-CDMA 2100)
Band II (W-CDMA 1900)
Band V (W-CDMA 850)
Band VIII (W-CDMA 900)
Regards.

will the korean samsung galaxy s work in the uk

Basically i have purchased the Samsung anycall galaxy s and i am wondering if this will work in the UK.
If it is on GSM then it will but if your on LTE or sum cmda you will need to flash to a.GSM firmware
All I want is a Good Stable ROM With Ics Theme On My Droid RAZR.
(651.73.30 XT910) if you got any suggestions for me please PM ME.
I used 2 be thr main guy on the but now on the RAZR i'm asking for help @[email protected]
If the standard GSM of UK norm is the same of Korean, will work.
UK Standard GSM norm:
Orange UK - GSM 1800mhz 3G2100mhz
T-Mobile UK - GSM 1800mhz 3G2100mhz
Telefonica O2 UK - GSM 900/1800mhz 3G 2100mhz
Vodafone Ltd - GSM 900/1800mhz 3G 2100mhz
H3UK - 3G 2100mhz
South Korea Standard GSM norm:
KT Freetel Co., Ltd (KTF) - 3G 2100mhz
SK Telecom - 3G 2100mhz
Well, the Standard GSM norm in Europe is 2100mhz.
Let me know if you want more informations.
Cheers.
