Can't tranfers any files over 1meg - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Recently I've been unable to transfer any files over about 200k to my external or internal memory over USB.
It was working fine before (I transferred over a 630meg rom), but now it just gives me an error saying "The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected"
I'm even having trouble transferring files to my extSD over kies as it keeps crapping out.

Same thing has been happening to me today. I seriously cannot transfer anything with this MTP crap. I have tried re flashing to stock rom, even completely reinstalled windows on my new samsung SSD and the same end result. All I can do now is pop my micro SD into my USB adapter and transfer files that way. Annoying but it gets the job done I suppose.

OK so after a reboot I can transfer files internally again. No idea what was the problem that caused it to happen all day.
Still can't transfer anything to my extSD.

I agree this new way of doing file transfer sucks, it is very slow but if I have time it does work fully for me.
I transfered 8 gigs of blue-ray movie rips to my 64 gig card a few days ago through USB & all the files work just fine.
I don't know how long it took, as I hooked it up through USB, set it to copy & then went to bed. It was complete the next morning

Tried multiple times copying the Synergy 1.7 Rom zip file to my extSDCard. Got to 60 seconds left and then gave me the error.
Tried about 10 plus times and still the same error. Sometimes it would get to about 50% done then the copying time would just keep increasing and finally crash.
Sometime I would have to remove the battery to reboot as it would lock up the phone because it was stuck trying to MTP sync. WTF?!?!

I have been having troubles also.....I cant copy files to sdcard or ext/sdcard with my pc(windows 7). I formatted the ext/sdcard w/ the phone and put in the slot on my pc and did a quick format FAT32. The error i get is "Cannot copy item.....The device has either stopped working or has been removed". I can remove the sdcard put in my pc and copy files with no issue(other than its a pain in the ass). I wonder if its a batch of bad devices???? I had the problem on stock and same running Synergy 1.6.......

Can't access the SD card via usb.

At first it actually worked and I got a few apks loaded up, but now it absolutely won't cooperate and I have been wrestling with this all night. Getting various errors, basically the PC just won't recognize either the phone or the SD card. Can anyone help me out here?

don't move apps to the sdcard.
uninstall whatever apps you moved to sdcard, reboot, reinstall them and keep them in internal memory.
I didn't move any apps to my SD card. I installed them from it. They were apk files. Installed in internal memory.

Known issue. Mine will also just stop seeing the SD card randomly. I'll know it when the phone rings and the ringer is some default garbage instead of the ringer I had assigned from the SD card.
I've yet to see any actual working solution. Simply rebooting the phone will usually fix it for awhile. Will probably have to wait for a Moto update.
what class is the sdcard?
people have been having issues with class 10 cards (although i have not).
try backing up everything on the sdcard, go to settings > storage and format the sdcard using the phone. move your stuff back onto the card and see if the problem continues.

Been there done that. Mine is a class 4 Sandisk 16GB.
Make sure you don't have any apps on your SD card. When you plug in your USB cord in it unmounts the SD card. If you have any apps on the card that are running is when you run into the problems being described as the phone is trying to unmount the card but can't due to the apps running.
Card is the stock 2gb, don't know what class.
No apps running from the card. Tried rebooting the phone a few times, turning USB debugging on and off, using different connection modes... No dice.
Def keep USB debugging on. When you plug your phone in does the USB icon show up in the notification bar?
Yeah, it does. And it charges.
OK grab the USB icon and pull it down just like a notification. You should see either 3 or 4 options, charge only, windows media share, etc. Sounds like you have charge only picked. Choose the media or data one and hopefully that will get you squared away

If u pull the card you should see a number on it in a tiny circle, the number in that circle indicates what class the card is. I had this problem once, after I rooted. Did factory reset and its been all good since....this was 2 weeks ago.
Sent from my MB865 using XDA App
I've tried all the USB connection options multiple times.
I had to uninstall moto drivers and then reinstall them on my pc. All was good after that.
Also done that multiple times.
For now I'm just using my ghetto rigged card reader - digital camera and micro sd-sd adapter. Hahahha.
Probably just going to have to wait for an update and some more moto support for this phone on the pc side. Speaking of updates, this phone's been out for a month. Getting to be about time we at least saw a few bug fixes.
I'm sure you did a battery pull. I just went through this with my device, and that fixed the issue...
Actually, I didn't.
It seems that if there are any apps installed on the sdcard, it can't be accessed via usb.
Mine actually just started doing this as well. It was working fine, and now I cannot get it to mount as a mass storage drive on several different computers. I had three apps installed on the card, all games. I uninstalled all of them and still no mass storage.
So I've been making sure no apps get installed on my sd, or even any app databases because sometimes an app will install internally, but put its database on the sd. So none of that! I enjoyed a few days of being able to use usb mass storage, then a couple days ago it became inaccessible again. I checked for apps that may have slipped something onto the sd but didn't find anything noteworthy.
I left the issue alone, praying for a fix materialize from the etherworld, when something interesting happened today. I unmounted the sd and installed a new app, and a notification came up saying the app could be moved to the sd; but the notification used a wierd sound to alert me, presumably because it couldn't find the default audio file on the unmounted sd. So I then wen't to settings/sounds...oops... android crashed and rebooted with the sd card mounted; and I have access to usb mass storage again. Prayer answered?

Can't copy to internal storage

I have my Xoom connected to my PC, I have the right drivers installed and it shows up as "Xoom" in My Computer.
I am trying to copy a file (about 300mb) to the internal storage, it starts doing it and then the progress hangs and after a while it says it can't do it.
Then Windows Explorer stops responding.
Also, if I just browse the internal storage through my PC it is all very slow, I have Titanium Backup and the folder has 231 items in it and Windows Explorer takes about 30 seconds to display them all.
I have tried using the Motorola micro-usb lead in case that would help, but it didn't. I have also tried using different USB ports on the PC, I read that using the front ports could cause problems so I am using a back port but it is still the same.
The "external" SD card is responding at normal speeds. Is it just that the internal SD is very slow? I am pretty sure I chose to use it when I ran Antutu and it got good speeds.
Any help please?
I am using TeamEOS Wingray.
I just browsed the internal storage then went to SD card, then went back to internal storage and it seems to be working better now, it doesn't hang if I do this. It still transfers very slowly though.

The Xoom is functioning as MTP device not mass storage. That is the way android is set up (for tabs???) and that may have something to do with it.
Thanks, maybe that is it.

I have noticed that you have to let windows finish enumerating the files/folders before it starts acting at normal speeds. If you have a bunch of files on your internal storage it can definitely take a while... especially after months of accumulating garbage files from various apps that never clean themselves up...

Yea, it is still a bit slow but more in the realms of normality that way.

[Q] Can't transfer files to TF101 after updating to 9.2.1.21

Hi all,
So I finally updated my TF101 to 9.2.1.21 the other day, and then did a factory reset. The only thing I've done to it since my last update was root it, and then saved it with OTA Rootkeeper.
While I was busy setting everything back up, I noticed that I forgot to backup my music so I connected my TF to my computer, it gets detected fine as usual, and I can open up all the directories and stuff.
However, when I try to copy music over to the internal SD card, it shows the progress bar for the transfer but it doesn't progress at all. It doesn't matter whether I try with 1 file or many files; nothing ever gets transferred no matter how long I wait. Eventually, when I try and cancel it, it also seems to hang until I have to force close it.
This used to work fine on the USB port that I'm plugged into on my computer, but I did try out a few other ports too and same thing.
I would appreciate any help/insight.
Thanks in advance!
I've been having the same problem actually, except when I go to transfer a file, Windows Explorer stops working. It's really obnoxious. My temporary workaround is to transfer files directly to an SD card and then move them over using the on-board File Manager to the internal storage.
That's what I ended up resorting to, but that sucks.
Going from a single-step process to multi-step.
Thanks anyways.

Problems copying files to brand new Shield tablet (Rooted+ Custom Rom)

Hi there,
Just got this tablet not long ago, using brand new Sandisk Ultra 128GB Micro SD (Tried 2 different ones both brand new). Issues was on both stock rom, stock rom + Root and now Blissy Pop rom also. I tried both my laptop & desktop using different cables, I also tried different file systems to the SD card (NTFS/exFat/Fat32)
Basically problem is whenever I copy a large file (Like a 6-10gb mkv movie file) the copy progress will go on in windows and when it's due to finish or sometimes halfway through I will get an error message about the device being disconnected or unrecognized.
No idea whats causing it, I can copy files fine directly on the card with a USB reader, its when I try to plug the tablet with USB to my computers that the problem happens, and copying smaller files work fine.
Any ideas what's causing this I'm running out of ideas.
I've also been unable to succesfully copy files over from AirDroid to the microSD directly.
I have had similar issues with every Android device that I have ever owned. Only with large files, over 2 GB I would say. Even file transfer through TWRP. (I point that out since it takes the Android version out of the picture.)
My solution? Take the MicroSD out, plug it into your PC directly, finish the transfer and re-insert.

Oh wow, well atleast I'm glad it's not just me, I have been spending so much time trying to figure out what was happening :/
That makes it so inconvenient if you just wanted to quickly add a video file >2gb before leaving or such.
So nobody else had any success working around this?

(solved) Big external micro sd card issues

I am getting an error, old as android itself, with my new s7 Exynos. "The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected". This happens when I try to copy my 25 gb music library on external sd card. I tried all usual stuff like:
- Use different cables
- Reinstall samsung drivers via Kies
- Transfer using MTP or PTP
- Use USB Debugging on and Stay awake option on
- Tried pushing folder via ADB push command, but it says "Read-only file system" when I typed location as /sdcard1 (which I think is an extSdcard right? It did copy a .txt file if I typed just /sdcard but that is internal storage)
- Tried with Samsungs own SmartSwitch but the bloody thing doesn't even have an option to copy files to device (only backup and restore), and Kies is not supported for S7.
On side note, the same sd card worked perfectly with my S3 and gave no errors. When I inserted sd card into S7, I formatted it inside the device. What other troubleshooting stuff should I do? I can't believe that this crap is still an issue. Why can't we have our USB Mass Storage back?
-----------------------------
Big edit:
Ok my phone doesn't seem to like this sdcard. I inserted microsd card to my s3 and copied 17 gb of files, to check if there is a problem with MTP connection or sdcard, but it copied all 17 gb of files without any errors or problems. I checked on phone if it reads correctly, and all music plays fine instantly without any lag or freez. But when I inserted this micro sdcard back into my s7, there was a massive lag/freezes. When I click "MyFiles" or "SolidExplorer", or any other file manager, there is a big lag/freeze, and file manager never opens (it is always stuck). Also, when I go into settings and when I press "unmount" under storage, nothing happens. When I press home, it doesnt go to home screen, and says that touchwizz is not responding (if I change default applications to Nova launcher, it does go to the homescreen though). When I try to open Shealth app, it doesnt open it. Also when I put my phone to sleep, I have to wait like 10 seconds for screen to turn off sometimes. When I pop out sdcard though, all the problems go away INSTANTLY. Everything is smooth again and responsive, file manager opens, shealth opens, everything works like it should. If I insert sd card back in, same problems happen.
And as a cherry on the cake, I put sdcard back into my s3, and everything still works fine. All files are readable, music playes, etc.
When I was searching online, this is the closest thing I have found that explains my problems, but there was no solution: http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-note-4/542854-sd-card-freezes-note-4-a.html
Anyone ever experienced anything similar?
EDIT: Luckly, it was not my phone fault. It was my sd card. Even though it worked fine on s3 and my friends s5, it didn't work in s7 for some reason. I purchased samsung evo+ and it works flawlessly.
try format as exfat ?
Can't, it is 32gb card and it is not allowing me. Also, sometimes when I insert it, the whole phone freezes complitely. Once I even had to use volume down + power button for 10 seconds reset method since it froze complitely. Card is in fat32.
edit: I also tried copying files from USB flash drive (adata 64gb exFat) to sdcard directly on my phone, via OTG cable. It also stopped the process midway and phone wouldn't enter into any file storage (it froze). I had to remove sdcard again and insert it back in to remove that freezing.
edit2: I copied 17gb folder full of subfolders to internal storage, and it transferred without any problems and pretty fast (about 20 minutes). That means MTP connection and drivers are fine. When I tried copying the same 17gb folder to external sd card, "device stopped responding or has been disconnected" error again.
It seems like this is a lot bigger problem, as this is not really an issue about "device stopped responding" anymore. I edited first post. Still looking for solution.
Search the forums, this is a known issue with some phones. You can try other cards, sometimes that will help. Or get your phone replaced as it's a hardware defect. My first S7 was like that. This one reads sdcard without issues (but has radio issues).
