OV Phone to Media player? - Optimus One, P500, V Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I have my Optimus V and haven't used it in ages. Figured that instead of buying an mp3/video player I would just turn this old phone into one. Question is what can I remove for phone files to get maximum battery out of my phone since I wont be using it for a phone at all.
Thanks in advance.

Hey! I'm an Optimus One user, so I'm not too sure about the availability of ROMS for your phone. I would suggest you find the most battery efficient CM7/Gingerbread rom for your Optimus V (I've always had excellent battery life on gingerbread). I would also recommend that you don't flash Gapps - it has a lot of things which run in the background. Finally, I would leave airplane mode on, and just turn wifi on/off as needed. You should be guaranteed good battery life

[Q] Booting into recovery mode in Samsung galaxy 3 (GTI-5801)

Hello guys ...
I'd want to root my Samsung galaxy 3 phone using the tool "Super one click"
But before i root my phone , i'd want to hav a back up using Nandroid tool.
But my phone is not booting into the recovery mode at all .
Tried holding the volume button an the power button for a while.
Also tried holding home button and power button.
Any idea how i can boot into the recovery mode ?
And also i see many of em posting in teh forum tht they're stuck in teh recovery mode.
Pls help.
Thank u
The 3 button recovery mode is locked out on a lot of the galaxy series phones. One way I managed to get into recovery on a galaxy 3 is holding down volume up AND volume down, home and press power. If this doesn't work you can try to get into recovery through ADB, make sure you have usb debugging enabled before trying that though.
Thank you for the reply ...
I tried the volume up down button + home button + power button ...
But it'd not boot into the recovery mode ...
What is ADB ?
Am sorry ... AM very much new to these stuffs ...
Thank you.
ADB is part of the android SDK, it's an interface (for your computer) used to issue commands to the android device. Here's a basic guide http://www.xda-developers.com/android/adb-easy-tutorial/
You'll need to run adb and push the phone into recovery mode. It's pretty straightforward, everything I know about it I've learned from this site so just have a look around.
Thankx alot
I've succesfully rooted my phone
But am not able to find any custom ROM for my Samsung galaxy 3.
I searched all over the xda forum an also hav been googling for a while , but not able to find a custom rom.
Pls help me find a custom rom for my samsung galaxy 3.
If there's any other phone model's custom rom i can install in my phone , pls lemme kno .
Thanx a lot
What is it about a custom rom that you are wanting? What is it about the stock rom you don't like? If you're wanting features/functions that the stock rom doesn't have, you can probably modify it to do whatever it is you want seeing as you have root access.
I'd want to hav a different theme installed and want to improve the battery back up an speed.
Battery last only for 12 hours even when its in idle mode.
I've kept my cell inoptimum brightness and i keep the GPRS (using APN droid) , GPS and wifi off. But still the battery seems to last long only for like 12 hours.
How old is the phone? Is it within warranty period? If the battery life is draining this fast on a stock rom I'd say it's probably a faulty battery. If you want to get a warranty replacement/assessment you'll need to unroot and remove any rooting applications from the phone. Best to reflash to the original firmware just to be sure as rooting will usually void the warranty.
Just out of interest, how long has the battery been draining that quickly? Since before you rooted?
Since teh day 1 my battery power drains so quickly.
I hav confirmed with the samsung showroom ppl. They say its not teh battery problem , all android phones are battery suckers...
I also spoke to many of my friends who use teh same mobile. Their battery back up also is also about 12 hours in idle mode.
Tht's wen i decided to root my phone and use a custom rom.
But unfortunately , am not able to find any custom rom for my phone model.
And even metamorph doesn't seem to work.
Will it be arite i use a custom rom of any other phone model ?
Pls help me find a good custom ROM for my phone.
Thanx alot
Hmmm I doubt it would use battery like that if it's just idle. I suppose you've done all the battery saving tricks, turning off automatic email sync, turn off wifi scanning etc
Another phone's rom will be coded to that particular hardware, so trying to flash a different models rom onto yours will not work (most likely brick it) unless it is the same hardware. What I mean by this is how the samsung captivate, vibrant and galaxy s are all the same phone in terms of hardware (as far as I am aware) but just marketed under different names.
Even so, I am not entirely sure if you could flash a captivate rom onto a vibrant etc. My only experience here is with an i-mate jasjam, which is also marketed as the htc hermes, htc tytn, and many other names. These devices are all the same hardware internally so theoretically compatible with each other's roms.

Worked for me.
I've done all the things possible to save my battery life ... Like ... Turning off the email sync , disabling background data, brightness set to optimum and Network type set to GSM only. But still teh battery back up aint tht good.
Is thr nothing i can do bout it .....? at all.....?
To be honest it sounds like it's a battery problem to me. The battery can drain quickly if you have a constant data connection, wifi scanning, bright screen etc but if you have disabled all of these I can't really see any reason why it's doing this other than a faulty battery/power management software.
If I was in your position I would find a copy of the stock rom and flash that, and see how it goes. If there's no improvement, get a copy of your proof of purchase and have it sent to samsung for a warranty service.
This is all I can think of really, unless you have any third party apps that are active/connected without you knowing.
And another thing, live wallpapers can be killers depending on how intense they are. Probably wouldnt drop that many hours off of what a stock battery should be. I don't know much about the stock Samsung rom but for my D1 I turn off 3G. Texts and calls still come in and there is no battery being drained from random need of data. Just for the mean time that helps. Having a darker background may be better too . Hope that helps.

[Q] Help with battery Life on my Lg G2x Please! (without updating the phone)

Hey there im brand new to this forum and android in general i just sitched from an iphone to the Lg G2x. I have to say the G2x is incredible but my battery life isn't i get on average 5 to 6 hrs of battery life (lose about 20% every hour) as others i have installed juice defender ultimate, setcpu, and watchdog. In addition to all these apps i uninstalled apps like T-mobile app pack and wifi calling because these apparently use up a lot of battery. So my question is if there any tips you guys can give me or setting for my phone or apps because maybe i have everything i need installed but with the wrong settings any help at all would be great thank you in advance
Info that might help:
As of now the juice defender app reports: 1.36x improvement
Well im assuming your running stock ROM and kernel...so the best and easiest thing i can tell you is just buy an extended battery ....they last alot longer, if you get the right one...

Download spare parts, go to battery history, and look at partial wake lock.
If you see a bar going across the screen or even most of the way, that's your culprit.
Also games like Words With Friends kills battery life with its polling service.
@Texan28
Well idk i tried to post pictures to display all that info but since im a new member i cant post links to pictures yet and well how much are they because ive heard there rather expensive
@ enoch861
No i would say average use most of the time just texting (usually is periodic not constant) , very little email checking and little or no facebook use but most of the time the phone is just sitting like for example right now Cell Stanby is at:49% and phone idle at 52% personally i think its to high but idk is that normal?
@Scyth3
Installed the app but no apps seem to be giving trouble all that have a status bar are very small
Once you've confirmed that you're not seeing any rogue app activity then uninstall watchdog. You don't need an app monitor or task killer running constantly on your phone.
Turn off auto brightness and set screen brightness somewhere around 20-25%. Under Settings > Wireless & Networks > Wifi Settings > *Press Menu* > Advanced Settings change wifi sleep policy to never. Turn wifi off when you're not going to be connected to a wifi network. Set your email/Facebook/twitter/weather/etc apps to sync either manually or at least less frequently.
Your biggest battery killers are going to be your screen brightness and your cellular radio. Juice defender can help control some of the cell radio by keeping data turned off when you don't need it. Also consider if you have poor signal your phone might also be always switching from 4G to 2G then it'll use more battery.
Don't bother with disabling GPS. Your phone only uses it when an app needs it anyway.
G2X CM7
Also, I'm assuming you've rooted your phone since you said you've removed wifi calling and other T-Mobile stuff. In that case, open setcpu and create a couple of profiles. Create a Screen Off profile with max/min values of 312/216MHz. Also create an In Call profile with max/min values of 1000/216 and set the priority slider higher than the screen off profile. I do this because when the screen goes off during a phone call I still want my phone to have plenty of processor power available. And I don't set it lower than 1000 because I'm often doing other things with my phone while I'm on a call.
G2X CM7
Then there's something wrong with your phone or a rogue app. I text a lot also and use my phone moderately to heavily. But I still get a whole day of use from the phone. Its surprising.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
@phburks I Actually have those settings on my phone however the setcpu i dont because i cant set those numbers for some reason it only lets me set default for example it goes from 245MHz to 384MHz (on the sliding adjuster)
@enoch861 really is there any tests i can run to find out whats really wrong?
No sir. Not that I know of.
But I would try to do a reset of the phone first anand run it a couple of days without really installing anything. If you get better battery life then it could be due to an app that you had installed. At that point you can start reinstalling your Apps one at a time in order of importance.
Now of that doesn't fix it, it could be a hardware issue.

In setcpu have you tried hitting Menu > Device Selection and then selecting the Tegra 2 option at the top? You might have it set up for the wrong device.
As for the battery life in general, 5-6 hours on light to moderate usage as you described is not normal for this phone. When I was on my stock rom unrooted I could still get at least 10-12 good hours and I use my phone a lot, mostly for texting and web browsing.
Are you in an area with weak cell signal?
Are there any other preinstalled apps from T-Mobile that are still installed?
G2X CM7
@enoch861 will the reset un-root and re-lock the phone?
@phburks
ok thnx i fixed the setcpu settings and no not really but idk if having in on a gsm carrier(Simple Mobile) makes a difference but yea thats why im trying to get this fixed because 5-6 hrs is really not enough i mean if i can at least get it to 10-12 hrs id be happy with that its great improvement and um well just google maps, news and weather, smarshare, talk, telenav, voicew search, youtube etc the only ones i made sure to get rid of was t-mobile app pack and wifi calling
It shouldn't unroot it.

As for a reset, do you have clockworkmod recovery installed? Just boot into that and do a full reset. You wont lose root but you WILL lose any apps you installed, personal settings, text messages.

@enoch861
what i meant with relock is that its currently unlocked but if i do a factory restore will it alter that ?

i actually dont but as long as my phone remains unlocked and rooted im willing to try resetting it after all ove heard good things about it helping with battery life but can you walk me through it?

If by unlocking you mean the SIM being unlocked to work on other cell networks, then you have nothing to worry about. A factory reset wont mess with that
As for performing a factory reset, go into Settings > Privacy and choose Factory Data Reset. Make sure you back up any texts/MMS you want to keep. All personal files/photos on your sdcard will be preserved but you'll have to reinstall any apps you want.
Since you still have stock recovery you can also power off the phone and then hold Volume Down + Power for like 10 or more seconds till you see the Android unpacking icon, and it will reset that way.
It shouldn't mess with root.

If your phone's rooted, which it seems to be, download the battery calibration app from the market. It's free, and helped my battery life immensely. Basically charge it up to 100%, use the app. It deletes the battery stats file so android can make a new one. Run it all the way down to empty, then charge it back up to 100% and you should be good to go.

OP, I am using Xboarders latest 2.3.3 rom and have had the phone on 9 hours and am at 70%. I use set cpu to slow down teh processor when the screen is off and I use juice defender to turn off data, wifi, etc when the screen is off.

Battery life help with Unlock, freeze apps & Underclocking

Question for those who have had their phones for a while.
Just got a Verizon SGS3 in New York City. Love it, but battery life sucks. Rooted the phone. Froze some things using Titanium Backup. Don't see a list here of applications that can safely be frozen. Wondering if anyone is willing to start one?
Also Looking at installing Phone Info:
Phone Info
which supposedly lets you turn LTE off which is said to increase battery life. Don't know why Verizon doesn't let you toggle 4G on and off.
Now I'm looking to unlock the bootloader and install a kernel that let's me under-clock. The phone is so fast I would think I could slow it down a bit without harm. EZ Unlock is said to easily and safely unlock the SGSIII bootloader on Verizon. At that point, I'd be looking for a modified kernel that supports under-clocking.
Anyone point the way to such a kernel or any other tips using the methods above?
Thanks
Harry

Battery life on this phone is fine, about 16-20 hrs for my daily usage. Expected about 4hrs average screen on for the battery. It's the second best behind Razor Maxx.
Stock? No way. I get about 3 hours screen, and it never lasts past about 4 pm.
I had an S2, and this is much worse. Bigger battery, but more drain somewhere. Maybe the LTE, as my S2 was not on LTE.
What is your definition of "daily usage"?

Issues with Galaxy S Blaze 4G (Help!)

Hey guys,
It has only been three months since I purchased the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G, and I currently have a few issues that really are bugging me out. I will bullet them out to make it clean and easier for you guys to read and figure out.
ALSO -- My phone is rooted, rocking a custom rom (AOKP JB Blaze 4G: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1989825)
1. Every time I take a screenshot, picture, download something, or just about any piece of data, my phone for some reason saves it all to my internal storage device, which is barely 1 GB. I have a 32GB MicroSD card, and bought the SD card with the intention that I can save all my data to that, never having to worry about my 1GB internal storage getting full. Is there any way to fix this? My phone is rooted, rocking a custom ROM, and I really don't see how this can be an issue. Can someone help me to fix this issue? I am a real noob when it comes to stuff like this, so I would appreciate detailed instructions!
2. My phone currently has an issue where every time I get a notification, the 4 LED touch-buttons on the bottom of the phone start blinking. I prefer it to not blink at all (as I would instead like to save precious battery life).
3. Even though its only been three months (less than a month with the new ROM) I noticed that the battery life is not too amazing, it drains out REALLY fast for some reason. All I really do on my phone is web browsing and visiting a social media app (facebook, twitter, etc...) and that's really it. Is there a way to possibly fix this as well? Could it be the ROM
4. When I drive, I often use my phone as a GPS, and what's funny is, even though the phone is plugged in (and technically charging), the battery drains out. I don't know how that is possible, as the phone is plugged in and charging through my car. Could it just be that this phone was never meant to be used as a GPS? Or is this another problem that can have a workaround to?
Anyways, that is my list, I'd really appreciate your help to solving all those issues, as I use this phone as a daily driver, and need all of the phone's functions working without problems.
Thanks!

Im new here also as of today. Im sorry your having issues with your phone and the rom. I have been doing alot of research on this phone we have as Im still stuck on Gingerbread. I just went off contract from Tmobile and recently rooted it. Getting ready to upgrade the rom.
I have read in some posts that the JB rom did have some problems with recognizing SD cards. Seems to me that I read that this was changed in a later release. I wish I could find that thread again and show you but it escapes me. Is this a stock ROM for JB that you are using?
I do have a question for you. I want to upgrade from gingerbread and thinking CM10. However, I do have to make sure speakerphone works. Any problems there?
I would guess at this point that you should try another ROM.

Ok, Most likely the vold.fstab file lists the mounting points for the phones filesystem. It will probably be a text file and I would suggest making a backup copy before modifying it. Otherwise you could really screw things up.
I have not viewed this file yet because I dont know of the exact location yet. I found a link but Iam a new user and not permitted to post it. Do a search for vold.fstab and you should easily find a link for editing it.
Basically, Your going to edit the fstab file and change the settings for mounting the sdcard. I would think a reboot of your phone will probably be the last step.
Hope this helps, From one learning to another

In the previous page wollieburger posted a link to edit the correct files. A really good guide (one post) on how to do it.

When I am changing the input from 0 to 1, the file is unable to save.
EDIT: It works now! Thanks for the post, and apologize again for being so late on this!
Sorry for the multipost, but I was wondering if someone can still help me out with my other stuff I am trying to figure out:

You should be able to disable the flashing LEDs (also known as pulse notifications) through the display settings.
I'm not certain if there were device settings in the 4.1 era.
Battery life on 4.1 was garbage. I could only imagine the GPS drain.
4.3 had the best.

The GPS navigation on the blaze takes a lot of battery. If you have the phone plugged in the battery won't drain as fast as compared to not having it plugged in.

To be honest, I never had a battery life problem on 4.1.2, one reason is I didn't use Google Apps (I had gapps package installed, but the minimal package), I also followed this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2357417
If you like push notifications from Gmail and other Google dependent apps, ignore that thread. Otherwise, it will improve your battery life. The other reason was I never ran cm10. I ran @thomas.raines ParanoidAndroid 4.1.2. Imo, the best cm10 based rom the Blaze had. But that's MY opinion. He's taken down the link, maybe you can try and chase him down and see if he'll re-upload it for you...

[Q] Unofficial CM without Radio?

Dear All,
I passed my old infuse to me child to use on the WiFi without a sim or a service. I keep updating her phone whenever a new version of scott.hart.bti's rom comes out (Thanks Scott). The problem is the Cell Standby is consuming most of the battery even though there is no sim in the phone.
I am wondering if there is a way I can completely remove the Radio part from the latest Roms or is there a chance that a new rom can be posted with and without the cell radio?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

If no sim, so no radio! Put it in airplane mode, but will change nothing if there's no sim!
Let the phone die and charge it till 100%. Normally the rom takes 2-3 days to stabilise! U can also lower clock speed to 800mhz.
But I don't know how to remove radio function and make it become media player. The problem is with the battery and rom/gapps and not the radio since there's no sim!
From http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53063834&postcount=3...
Try dialing *#*#4636#*#*
Go to Phone Information, select Turn off Radio.
Can always turn back on by Airplane Mode toggle (or go back in this way). Don't know if there is a difference between this and Airplane Mode (except the lack of the Airplane icon in the status bar) but I hope this helps.
Thanks
Both methods worked fine. Thanks a million gentlemen

I have the same cell standby problem. It eats up 50% of my battery. I've put my phone in airplane mode but it still dies over the course of 8 hours.
