turn off physical keyboard - bluetooth scanner Nexus 7 - General Questions and Answers

I have a Nexus 7 that I would like to use a bluetooth scanner with. The device pairs ok and functions, but is recognized as a BT keyboard which turns off the screen keyboard, leaving me with no keyboard at all. My other tablet (ICS) has an icon that has a physical keyboard on/off switch that shows up in the notification area when I have the scanner paired with it - is there somewhere I can access this on the nexus 7?

Figured it out - kind of...

I had to reset my scanner (motorola CS3070) and it re- paired with the Nexus7 now the keyboard icon is showing on the top notification bar. This may have to do with my using a 3rd party keyboard (thumb keyboard 4), but it seems once the scanner is paired if the tablet or scanner sleeps upon re-connection, the icon disappears and leaves only the scanner for a keyboard. I can get the icon to re-appear by removing the check next to the keyboard selection (android keyboard is greyed out) - I can then turn off the hardware keyboard and re-select any keyboard (the android keyboard is now available).
Anyways - I now have a nice sized, lightweight, and very capable device to audit my inventory through a web interface using a BT scanner.

Samsung Keyboard Dock & Softkey Keyboard

Having owned a Asus Transformer I'm used to how well the hardware keyboard works and particularly how it always disables the softkey keyboard whenever I was using the hardware keyboard.
I've been frustrated with the Samsung Dock in that it never disables the softkey keyboard. Seems any keyboard will force the Note back to the Samsung Keyboard if you have something else selected. I've used Tasker to detect my bluetooth keyboard, delay a few seconds, and then switch to "null keyboard" and then back again to my preferred softkey keyboard when I turn off my bluetooth keyboard.
One problem is that Tasker doesn't have anything that works with detecting the Samsung Keyboard dock. I wish the tablet would just automatically disable the softkey keyboard when I have the OEM keyboard dock attached. Afterall, why would I want both? Besides the annoying use of screen real estate there is some bug where occasionally a popup appears saying "US English" and then I lose whatever keystroke I was typing when that comes up.
Anyone else using the keyboard dock seeing issues like this? Does anyone know of a way to disable the softkey keyboard when I've attached the samsung keyboard dock?
I use External keyboard helper. It should let you switch to a null keyboard when an external keyboard is connected. You still have to choose it as input method by clicking on the pop-up sincd apparently Android does not allow automatic switching for security reasons.
Also, sometimes it wouldn't make the switch back after disconnecting, so I set up a Tasker profile that offers you the choice of input options every time bluetooth keyboard is connected. Now it's just one click to switch it in or off.

You actually can have Android switch input methods if you have root and are using Tasker. You have to use Secure Settings plugin to do this but it works great. Problem is I just can't get tasker to notice this keyboard (works great with my BT keyboard) and besides the point, I was hoping Samsung would have better integration with their own hardware.

[Q] tp gesture breaks bluetooth keyboard

I recently bought a lenovo s580 phone. It has android 4.2.2 installed. I was able to pair an apple bluetooth keyboard with the phone and the keyboard is working fine. But there are several keys not working.
I found out that the phone has TouchPanel Gesture. I have never seen this feature before. This feature has an alphabet gesture in it. There are several keys in alphabet gesture including: o,w,m,e,c,s,v,z, left, right, up, down. These keys when pressed from bluetooth keyboard, it flashes a window saying Invalid Application: Application not set.
Basically this flash window keep on poping up and won't allow normal typing on bluetooth keyboard.
I tried to delete tpgesture app from system app list, it removed the window messaging, but the keys are still not working.
I've been trying to tackle this problem for a week now and could not find any other post about this issue.
Can any one help me solve this issue?
By the way, the touchpanel gesture otherwise works fine, I can assign any app to 's' key and pressing physical s key will launch the app. But this effectively makes the physical keyboard completely useless. I really want this feature be entirely gone so I can type normally.

My bluetooth gamepad disables my on-screen keyboard. How can I use both?

I just bought an iPega 9023 gamepad for my Note 4 (rooted stock 5.1.1), and while it is awesome, it completely disables my on-screen keyboard in all apps while connected. This happens whether the gamepad is paried in keyboard mode (where that would make sense) or gamepad mode (where it doesn't make any sense at all).
As long as the gamepad is connected, any time I tap on any text field expecting the keyboard to show up, nothing shows up, or in the case of Swiftkey, only the suggestion bar shows up on the bottom of the screen, no keys. Doesn't matter what keyboard I use, even hacker's keyboard gets disabled.
How can I use my gamepad and use the on screen keyboard at the same time?

Autoswitch virtual keyboard?

I just got the official Samsung keyboard cover for my Tab S2. It seems that the bluetooth keyboard doesn't work properly if the default on-screen keyboard is Swype (my favorite). I have to manually select the Samsung on-screen keyboard to make the bluetooth keyboard work correctly.
Is there any way to automatically switch to the Samsung on-screen keyboard when the bluetooth keyboard is turned on, and switch back to Swype when the bluetooth keyboard is turned off? There is a power switch on the bluetooth keyboard, so turning it on/off is not a problem.
Thanks.
I have a partial solution for now. I installed Swiftkey. It doesn't show the virtual keyboard when the Bluetooth keyboard is turned on. It does still show the word predictions at the bottom, however. Not quite as annoying as Swype. I'll have to use Swiftkey for a while and see how it compares to Swype, which I've been using for years.
If anyone has a solution to my original problem, I'd love to hear it.

Question When i detach the tablet from keayboard it doesn't switch to onscreen keyboard.

I have the latest mate pad 11 pro from Huawei.
It came with physical keyboard.
When it's attached it works automatically. But it's working through Bluetooth.
So when the tablet is detached it's still working even if away. I don't get the on screen keyboard to work automatically. I have to disconnect the physical keyboard manually from settings or turn off the Bluetooth.
Any solution for that great xda.
