Data Switcher is a simple app that will automatically enable/disable your mobile data connection at user set intervals. The main purpose of this app is to conserve battery by disabling your data connection while the phone is in STANDBY. I have seen around 50-60% decrease in battery drainage per hour(Used to drain at 8-10% per hour, now it's about 1-3% per hour). Results may differ based on data signal.
FEATURES:
- Custom time intervals
- Data Switcher is disabled if charging
- Option to control switching of WiFi
- Log support
- Screen on prompt
- Manual toggle to disable/enable data
NOTES:
- "DS On/Off" toggle - Enables/Disables Data Switcher
- "Log On/Off" toggle - Enables/Disabled Logging. (Log file stored on SD. Filename is "DataSwitcherLog.txt")
- "Data On/Off" toggle - Manually Enable/Disable Data
- "Prompt On/Off" toggle - When On, if Data is OFF when turning phone back on, you will be asked if you would like to turn data ON
- "WiFi Control On/Off" toggle - When On, Data Switcher will control WiFi as well, using the set time intervals.
- "Start Time" - The amount of time before data is disabled AFTER the phone goes into standby
- "Off Cycle Time" - The amount of time to leave data disabled before it will turn back on
- "On Cycle Time" - The amount of time to leave data enabled after "Off Cycle Time" has hit(Check in time)

CHANGELOG:
v2.0
- UI Changes
- Added "WiFi Control". Data Switcher can now control switching of WiFi.
- Data Switcher will NOT attempt to "Check In" if there is No Service.
- Data Switcher will automatically be disabled if there is a headset plugged in. This is to prevent Data from switching off in the case you are streaming audio.
Thanks for the app.. I have installed it and so far everything is working as advertised. I am going to monitor my battery and report back with the findings. Keep up the great work.

Thanks! All feedback/suggestions are welcomed!
I use Pandora a lot on my bike with the screen off... the app does not recognize that the data signal is being used and still turns it off. I don't know if there is any way to avoid this aside from turning the app off while I am riding. Other than that the app has been great so far; and significantly increases battery life over a full-time data connection. Thanks.

I may be able to write it so that Data Switcher is Disabled if there is a headset plugged in. I can't see where this would effect anything else.

Hello,
I installed the donate version on my old Motorola Milestone running alpha cm10, because battery is very limited here.
Some issues I experience:
* The app doesn't start every time I hit the icon on the home screen, but every third or so time
* It seems it doesn't keep settings because every time the app starts, all bars are at more left (e.g. default)
* I wasn't able to log a full cycle, it stopped after disabling radio. Could be to device limitations (ram)?
It would be the perfect app for me.
[edit]
it works somehow after reinstalling, i even get the prompt i never saw before. but should it enable data if screen is on? that doesnt work. and the issue of opening the app and no settings are loaded persists. only one time i had the settings displayed.

Battery Drainage Fix :
There is a Dialer bug in the Chacha that drains the battery, you can see this if you go to : "settings >about phone >battery >battery use". You will see it shows dialer usage at 90%+ and this is the MAIN reason your battery drains so quickly. do the following to fix the issue.
Go to : settings >sound> Disable quiet ring on pickup, Disable pocket mode and Disable flip for speaker.
Then
Go to : settings>applications>development>enable usb debugging.
Click to collapse
Now recharge your battery to the full. Should see some change.
Additionally if you want to extend your battery even further :
I would HIGHLY recommend you install these 3 widgets, they are all small and take very little space on your phones desktop, and you can toggle each of them on/off with a single click :
Wifi - On/off
Brightness Widget
Autosync-On/off
Hope this helps all the poor souls out there with battery issues. I use my phone quite often and my battery currently as it stands now :
On time since last Full Charge : 11H 56Mins 45s
Battery Level Percentage : 44%
And Im using nothing fancy, its a Stock Rom/Stock Battery with the above settings and widgets, and i mostly browse the net with opera mini, use whatsapp, google talk, check gmail, sms, O and I play some angry birds.
Hey you are right about the Dialer being a big part of the battery drain! Thanks!
Thanks! I always wondered why it was always saying "dialer" drained 90% of my battery. I always thought HTC had it twisted with Display. I have my phone flashed with CM7 right now and the battery so far has been great! about 12 hours and 70% capacity still. Normal use (4 email accounts, whatsapp, ebay, amazon, etc. no angry birds yet. lol
I will definitely let my gf know since she kept hers stock.
Thanks again!
Hi, i have this problem, dialer usage is 90%+. So i "disable quiet ring on pickup, disable pocket mode and disable flip for speaker" and "enable usb debugging", and after full charge, i don't see "dialer usage" voice in "settings >about phone >battery >battery use". but after incoming call the voice "dialer usage" come back with 93% usage! :-((( what's the problem?
Me too, but battery work fine with all options checked.
Note, on this few days usage phone is very low....(10 calls below 2 min, 30-40sms.......)

Ok, thanks, i'll check this and report possibile problems
I am using CM now but when I had stock (European 1.54) I recall that besides disabling the sensors (which, by itself didn't work), if all calls (both calling and receiving) were done with loudspeakers the bug didn't kick in...
good luck!

my chacha battery is so bad
it takes 2.30 hours from 100% to 15 % !!

Don't those apps turn the phone's radio off while it's in standby though? I imagine that could cause issues for most people.
Yeah, the battery is too bad
Yeah, the chacha battery is too bad. Especially for 3G, I try to turn on Wifi all the time & the battery can take 40% longer, comparing to 3G network.
Turn off all sync services, auto screen rotation, uninstall all social network widgets & my battery can long for 36 hours.

Disabling "quiet ring on pickup", "pocket mode", and "flip for speaker" options in the sound menu also mildly helps. Just disabled sync services. Thanks!
Hi everybody, I finally released my first android app!
S.A.M. allows you to activate and deactivate airplane mode at fixed time saving battery, useful for example if you want to
use your smartphone as alarm. ( Alarm doesn't work if the phone is OFF )
I know.. there are a lot of app that make the same thing but mine is free, easy to set and has these plus:
- App activation depending on the day of the week
- Edit wifi status, ringer mode and audio volumes when activating / deactivating airplane mode
- If the phone is ringing or you are making a phone call S.A.M. delays the activation of airplane mode till the end of the phone call

This app is still beta, I'm using it since march on my phone ( Liquid with CM 7 ) and it's working very well, but I need more feedback ( specially ICS feedback ! ) ... testing would be very appreciated!
You could test it setting close times and checking if ariplane mode is activating and deactivating properly, if you like it and you use it regularly.. many many thanks!
In fact my fear is that S.A.M. stop working after one or two week of use, in my case never happend but you never can tell.

Hi,
This cuts all connections like data,wifi,etc...
You can use your phone "normally" but without any connections, you will not able receive calls, sms, mms, etc either browsing the web make calls,etc...
Used in general for battery saving...
If I'm not wrong it's a buit-in feature in Android devices...
EDIT:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airplane_mode
Thanks man.
I use it everyday and I have not any problems with this app.
yes creeve4, like viking37 said it's a buit-in feature in Android devices ( and in all mobile phones )
In this app it's purpose is battery saving and make inactive your phone allowing you to use it as alarm (If you turn off the phone alarm won't work)
hi!

ChangeLog:

- fixed start and end time shown in settings

hi !
elcasa, a search of XDA brought me here. First of all, thanks for sharing your work with us. I'm sure we all appreciate it. Second, I have a question/request. How hard would it be to add an option to cycle airplane mode on and then immediately off again?
I have an ongoing issue that is easily solved by turning AM on and then immediately off. It's not a big deal to do this manually, but if I had a widget or shortcut that would accomplish this with one touch, it would be pretty slick.
Any thoughts?
you need a widget that resets the network, activating airplane mode and deactivating it few seconds later, if I have understood correctly
it would be easy making a widget that does what you want but I'm curious, why you need it ?

My phone wont connect to my femtocell and cycling AM fixes it.
doesn't seem too difficult, i'll try to do it
there's a new update! fixed problems with ics & jelly bean, added toast notification on off in settings
@erikivy I'm studying so I don't have enough time to make the widget, if you want to try, in the test section there's a button that make the "network reset" activating and deactivating airplane mode in a few seconds, i'll add the widget after my exams

***About Mobile Data***
Mobile data is available on all supported Android versions. I have tested it on Nexus One and Samsung Galaxy Nexus. However it may not work on some phone models, i.e. on HTC EVO 4G Mobile Data Off works, but On - doesn't.
I'm very sorry if this function doesn't work on your device, very often manufacturers block this and there's nothing i can do about it
Here's an example:
- Switch ringer off at night and switch it back on in the morning.
- Wake up to your favorite music by launching your internet radio app.
- Make your screen brighter during day time and keep it darker in the evening to save battery.
- Switch WiFi on when you get home and switch it off when you're off to work.
- Automatically turn off mobile data when you go to bed to save battery and turn it back on when you wake up
Phone Schedule is highly configurable, supports multiple tasks at one time, lets you specify days of week when you want specific tasks to run. If you want every task to trigger a notification in your phone's notification bar, you can easily enable notifications on the Settings page. Disabling notifications is just as easy "Pause Tasks" function, use it when you have unexpected business meeting, so scheduled tasks won't execute during a timeout which you set.
Phone Schedule runs in background, so once you setup your tasks, you won't need to reschedule them manually, everything is done automatically.
List of supported actions:
- Silent mode
- Vibration mode
- Normal mode
- Switch WiFi On
- Switch WiFi Off
- Switch Bluetooth On
- Switch Bluetooth Off
- Airplane Mode On
- Airplane Mode Off
- Change Ringer volume
- Change Media volume
- Change Alarm volume
- Change Notification volume
- Change Ringtone
- Silent Ringtone
- Change Notification Tone
- Silent Notification Tone
- Brightness - Auto
- Brightness - Full
- Brightness - Cutsom
- Dim Screen
- Launch an app
- Mobile Data On (May not work on some devices)
- Mobile Data Off (May not work on some devices)
- Reminder
The list of actions is continuously growing, stay tuned for updates!
About permissions:
* Access network state, Change network state - To enable/disable mobile data
* Full internet access - for crash reports, this greatly helps to debug the app and prevent crashes
* Change your audio settings - to set silent/vibration/normal modes and change volumes
* Automatically start an boot - to start working on your tasks automatically on boot after you reboot your phone
* create Bluetooth connections, Bluetooth administration, change WiFi state - to switch WiFi and Bluetooth On and Off(No data transmission!)
* Modify global system settings - To enable/disable Airplane mode
* Prevent phone from sleeping - to execute your tasks when your phone is sleeping

I'd love to hear your comments and reviews. If you can think of more features that would be nice to have in Phone Schedule, just let me know, maybe i can implement some of them in the next update.
Can you add phone signal off option?

I don't have this function yet, but i'll look into in, maybe i can implement it. In the meantime, you could use Airplane Mode action.
very useful
I've been using this app for a long time and its very useful.
I'm using this. Really nice app :good:
i am waiting for these:
+ Auto reboot
+ Auto run a shortcut (not an app), many apps have a shortcut or widget which can do small thing like auto backup, auto clear data,..etc..
+ Auto open a file
+ Auto send a message or call a number
+ Auto change wallpaper
+ Auto capture phone's screen
+ Auto unlock screen, turn screen on
+ Auto kill all hidden apps at day:hh:mm:ss
+ Auto open camera app and take a shot.
U can make this app perfect, just do it! :good:
Hi guys!
here my first android app mainly born for personal usage and, now, considered "mature" enough for the brave members of this community
iPulse is an application that let you pulse the data connection (and WiFi in the pro version) depending on several configurable events.
Extremely useful to awake services that needs internet connection (e.g. push mail) without necessity to keep it always on, thus reducing greatly the battery usage.
iPulse can ignore the connection status, operate in manual mode for connection always on, connection always off (as a standard connection on/off manager) or in a totally automatic mode, driven by events. The different operating modes can be switched using widgets and/or commands in the notification area (Android >= 4.1).
The configurable events that can activate the data connection (and WiFi in pro version) in automatic mode are:
Timer (frequency, duration, and daily range)
Screen on and unlocked (with optional delayed timeout)
Battery charge (AC or USB)
The configurable events that can deactivate the data connection (and WiFi in pro version) are:
Expire of scheduled timer
Screen off (with optional delayed timeout and list of foreground apps)
Low battery signal (ignored when battery is in charge)
iPulse works on any Android device version starting from 2.3 (Gingerbread) and doesn't requires device ROOT. It is available in English and Italian. The free version is without any ads, the pro/donate version has more widgets and the possibility to handle also the WiFi/Tethering connections.
Notes:
There is an online manual that describes all the features (you can find it here as well: http://www.thinksoft.it/android/iPulse/manual/ipulse-user-manual.htm).
Since dual SIM support is not standard in Android, it could be that iPulse won't work properly on dual SIM devices.
The first time you install it don’t forget to run the app and accept the EULA to properly configure and enable it.
I would like to hear your comments and suggestions, please post them here or send them to "ipulse AT thinksoft.it"

Have a nice day!
Going to give this a try while at work. My signal there is spotty at best. Over a 9 hour shift it takes a toll on the battery. I have Automate It turn data off once work starts but I miss emails throughout the day unless I toggle manually.
Tomorrow I'll give this a shot and see if this helps. If so I'll buy your pro even though I have no need for the advanced options.
If you have weak signal I suggest you to raise the data connection timeout, try at least 180 seconds, you can even go up, that is the maximum time to wait for a successful connection.

Hi Martinhdk,
iPulse doesn't directly interact with apps (doesn't stop them), it controls the activation of the connection depending on events programmed (timer, screen, power), app that are "connection aware" (most of them) will connect and download automatically as soon as they will see the connection active.
Give a try to the free version it's full featured (except that doesn't manage the WiFi connection) and has no ads at all.
For any other question feel free to ask, I'll be glad to try to help you!
Best regards,
Marco

Hi,
Thanks for your app
Il let my phone live a bit too see what it says.
Can it tell which app is (or was) triggering the GPS?
Some feedback
1. Please use a background service instead of the process.
2. Please have the option to display the data as a grid instead of a chart. The counts are not readable.
3. Is it possible to know which app requested for that location?

Thanks for the feedback.
1. Service is not required in this case. There's no process running also after few seconds on exit. But it seems your point (4) helped me find a major bug, which is fixed now.
2. In future yes.
3. Yes. Root access might be required.
4. Update to 2.5.5 and let me know your feedback.
Thanks for your help.
