What is the reason that custom tw roms do not support exfat format for the sd card? The phone does natively support it, what was removed or modified?

Ah. It's just funny that i got that same card and never formatted it. Just plug and play on stock root. But when i go to a custom tw Rom, as soon as it boots it says"sd card is safe to remove" and reinserting gives the same message.
I thought that maybe it was because it came formatted exfat. But now I'm just lost as to the reason. Is there a way to see what format it is formatted in? Just curious as to what my issue is before i just nuke the problem by formatting it "fat"

*Edit from what Im reading its a issue with CWM recovery...never tried that card on full stock, but from what your saying it might be a possibility.

Ok, so from what i gather. These cards are most likely shipped with exfat. Which explains why people complain about clockwork mod. I plugged my card right in and was pleased to see it worked out of box, but i also noticed cwm would not mount it. No big deal because people can flash from internal memory. But i flashed beans the other day and exfat was ejected. Also i read in other custom Rom (touchwiz) that people need to format fat32. I guess that's fine, but i would like an explanation to help my understanding.

Hey guys, just recently got a G2x coming from a MT4G.
I'm on the latest CM7 nightly and for some reason I'm having a big problem getting both of my SD card and internal memory to mount. I know I have the drivers installed as I had to do so to be able to root the phone.
I plus the phone into the comp via USB and my computer doesn't read anything.
Even when I go to the latest CWM recovery (5.0.2.6) and go to Advanced and mount my USB through there it still doesn't read it.
Any reason why this is doing this?
I mounted it fine when I was on stock ROM yesterday, but having no luck mounting it now.
Any response would be greatly appreciated!
Are you using the same USB cable? Same USB port as the one that worked yesterday?

Yes I'm using the same cable and the same USB port as yesterday. I'm dumbfounded
I know fauxs aosp rom doesn't have this problem and I think it should mount both sdcards on recovery mount storage, not too sure if it will mount internal SD on latest nightly while phone is on with debugging.

Yeah I tried it while debugging was on and off and no luck. So I just gave up and flashed WeaponG2x and it worked perfectly.... Now I just tried EaglesBlood and it still won't work!
This is so frustrating... I'm loving the phone so far but this is killing me.

Yea I hear ya, I hate how they partition these phones internal storage. Pretty much everyone that has or uses an android smartphone prefers to buy a much larger external microsd card, be it anywhere from 4-32gb. I'd rather they not partition storage and let us use that space for installing apps/games on internal then put our music or movies/media on external sdcard.
Plus issues like these where USB drivers wont detect the internal/external sdcards is very annoying and confusing when coming from a phone like we had.

Yeah seriously. I've never had this problem with any other phone. You think it's a driver problem that it works on stock based ROM's but not on CM7 based?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Yep exactly, very poor driver support from LG, read up on it on the general section and even here on q/a threads, there's tons of people that have had these issues.
Could have been avoided too if LG wouldn't have messed with the internal storage I bet.

I've asked a couple people in threads but after getting down to doing it I've come across various posts throughout XDA and other sites listing issues after /emmc format. One case was that the device bricks unless you can repatriation the internal card and another simply recommending not to.
I'd like to format internal to get rid of all the junk left over after multiple ROM flashes. I'm hesitent due to the aforementioned threads but also curious as to whether /emmc includes everything on the internal memory or if there is a secure partition allocated for things such as CWM. Does formatting /emmc not delete CWM itself? The plan is to put the next ROM on external SD, format /emmc, and immediately flash the new ROM on before booting. Is it correct that I all this can be accomplished within CWM and not require first going back to stock through ODIN?
Thanks!
No need to go back to stock. You can format emmc or sdcard through settings-storage. Or connect to PC then click on mount USB storage and delete from PC.

I'm pretty sure the former is a no-no on the Skyrocket, recall coming across that when I was first rooting a while back. The PC approach should be similar to CWM, thanks.

I don't see why people have all that buzz around cleaning(formatting) the "internal" sd card ...
Just mount USB storage in cwm and while the device is connected to the PC , delete everything from the PC and call it a day ... also you can even put any ROM you like to flash in the meanwhile

the brick problem was for aokp and cm9 roms, a dev bricked his phone using said procedure , since then they disabled that feature(pretty sure they did), it might b visable in the menu but it doesnt do anything.
if you are on stock rogers ics it should be fine (i cant see samsung releasing it as that is a major flaw, lots of returned phones), if u r on it try it, it should b safe, if it bricked it, tell rogers what happen and u will get another one.
custom rogers ics should also b safe, im on skyics 4.2f based on rogers ics, but im not willing to chance it, dont need to since i can use cwm or my pc to accomplish the same thing

Not sure what you are asking sir, I have installed these, which means I have either tested or ran the ROMs in the Dev. as far as sd card issues, there is none, now for CM9, the mount is different than Gingerbread...EMMC which means: Embedded Multi Media Card, vice the GB "ext SD" label.

You cannot swap internal and sd card storage, but you can make the SD card act as internal storage by partitioning it

Yes I'm rooted and I have a CM9 rom.
Alright. I personally used Link2SD to gain internal memory, although there are others.
I used this guide for Link2SD (it explains everything!) http://www.xperiablog.net/2011/12/12/link2sd-guide-never-worry-about-internal-memory-limits-again/ it was written for xperia phones, but it is universal.
CM9 SHOULD support EXT4, but to be safe I would use EXT3, or even FAT. These shouldn't matter, but I like larger numbers. I also partitioned about 1 GB, which was enough for me, but you can always do more (don't overkill)

This one.
In the same thread there is a flashable zip that swaps between the internal&external sd cards. So you can theoretically get a 32GB microSD and have that act as your internal sd card while having the real internal memory act as a 1.5GB external sd.
okay. so i have:
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7'' (8gb internal / 32gb microSD external) running Jelly Bean 4.1.1
1-. i rooted it
2-. partition the microSD leaving (1st partition with 28gb FAT32 / 2nd partition with 1gb ext2)
3-. downloaded Link2SD and linked to the ext2 partition
4-. linked almost every app (screenshot)
yet the info in "storage" says i'm storing everything in the internal memory (screenshot).
i linked "Fifa 12" to external SD and started downloading it (aprox 1.2gb) and while it downloads i can see how the free space from the internal storage goes down.
am i doing something wrong?, thanks in advance!
here i add a screenshot showing that partition i made (i did it fine as far as i know)
