Day 3: No RR OR SOD
Hey Guys I Am Going To Post A Few Tips And Tricks On How To Avoid SOD's On JellyBean Based Roms For Our Skyrockets. All The Tips Included Have Been Tested 100% By Me. I Have Been Running The New CM10 Nightly With Very Hard Use And Have Not Gotten A Single Lag, RR Or SOD. The Point Of This Thread Is To Help You Guys Achieve The Same Thing By Having A Correct Setup. Ok First Of All RR (Random Reboots) & SOD's (Screen Of Death's) Are Supposedly Caused By 1 Of The Following Factors Or A Combination Of Both:
1. Undevolting Too Low (Around -75 Across The Board)
Undervolting Is A Good Way To Save Battery And Keep Your Device Cooler, But Theoretically Having Your Voltages Set To Low Can Do The Complete Opposite Cause Your Phone To Overheat And Drain The Battery Really Fast! JellyBean Uses More Ram Than ICS & GB. So Heavy Multi-Tasking + Agressive Undervolt = Typically A Warmer Device And A Significant Decrease In Battery Life. Now Where SOD's & RR's Come In Effect You Ask?! It Hasnt Been Pinpointed As Of Being Directly Related To Undervolting But From Personal Experience If I Undervolt Past -50 The Device Would Lock Up On Occasion Of A Heavy Load (Multitasking Or Ram Intensive Apps). Start Your Undervolt Low At -12.5 Steps And Reboot To Make Sure You Can Boot And Continue From There.
2. Kernels (Usually Custom-Made One's
First Off Think Of A Kernel As A Store Of Drivers. Without A Kernel Your Precious Galaxy SII Wouldnt Even Boot. A Kernel Stores Dependent Files Needed By The Android OS To Perform Different Tasks Such As: Reading The Battery Percentage, Controlling Clock Speed, Audio, Video, ETC. A Kernel Can Often Cause A Random Reboot Or SOD If It Is Not Compatible With The Rom You Are Running. For Instance: The New CM10 Nightlies Are Brand New Making Their Debut On The 5th Of October. InstigatorX's Kernel Was Last Updated 8/23 Which Is Almost 2 Months Old. Many Many Changes Have Been Made Since Then In Terms Of Development Of JB On Our Skyrockets. The Best Thing To Do Is Stick With The Stock CM10 Kernel For Now. It Should Lessen Your Chance Of RR's And SOD's.
3. Conflicting Apps (2 Different Apps Of The Same Purpose)
I Personally Have Recently Discovered That Having 2 Overclocking/Undervolting Apps Such As: SetCPU & System Tuner Pro Installed At The Same Time Was A Big Cause Of The SOD's I Were Having. My LogCats Even Proved So. I Will List Apps i Recommend For Root Tasks:
1. UnderVolting + Overclocking *CPU Control*
2. Root Rights *SuperSU*
3. App Restoration *App2Zip* (Because It Doesnt Restore Data!!!!)
4. Gapps *Slim Gapps* (Found In Slim Bean Thread, Very Minimal!!!!)
5. No Live WALLPAPERS!!!! (Big Cause!)
4. Task Killers & Scripts!
First Lets Start With Task Killers. Task Killers Have Been Found To Not Be Needed In Android A Long Time Ago Now Since Android 2.3. Android Manages Apps And Ram Nicely. Android Makes Great Use Of MinFrees And OOM Groupings So No Additional Apps Would Be Needed To Increase Battery Life. Next Is Scripts! Be Careful When Choosing Scripts And Try To Make It A Habit To Install Them One By One So You Will Know Which One Is The Culprit And Quickly Remove It From The Init.d Folder.
My Trusted Scripts!!
- Obviously Any Script That Your Rom Author Has In The OP Of Their Thread
- V6 SuperCharger- Is Kind Of A Hit And Miss In My Opinion, On Some Roms I Have Luck On Other Meeeh! Try For Yourself!
-Geeky Engine- I Have Had Luck With This Script, Its New And I Can Say That It Actually Works.
-Darkside Wipe Scripts - I Use These When Flashing A JB Rom With A Full Wipe.
-Will Update With More![/FONT]
5. Device Incompatibilities
Jellybean Isn't Out Officially For Our Devices So SOD's & RR's Are Going To Exist! Point Blank! Thanks To Our Awesome Dev's We Can Steer Clear Away From Them As Long As We Can. Most Users Complain That JB Deteriorates Over Use And Eventually Wear Out. This Was The Case For Me In Early JB Stages But Not Lately.
My Setup
I'm Going To Be As Thorough As Possible! LOL
Rom: Official CM10 Nightly 10/8/12
Kernel: Stock CM10
Min Freq: 192 MHz// Max Freq: 1512 MHz (Raising The Min To 384 Reportedly Helps With SOD's & RR's)

I've had SODs and what is not exactly what I would consider a RR, but we'll call it that as it's close enough, since day 1 of CM10 being out for our device. I still get them, but much less often. None of what you have suggested here applies. I'm running the stock CM msm8660-common kernel and don't have it overclocked or undervolted. I also don't have any apps that would be conflicting, and while I have the V6 supercharger script on my phone currently, I did not have it installed throughout all of Aug and Sept while I still got SODs.
Same
Same Here. It is hit or miss for me. Sometimes I get a smooth rom and other times SOD or RR, Setting my min frequency to 384 instead of 192 has helped a lot though.
i guess the kernels underclocking is what causes the flicker issues as well?

Nope. Running X's 6.3.6 UV'd by -75 across the board. Screen flicker fixes in place. No SOD's or reboots in a month. I use it on AOKP. If DEVs knew what was causing the SOD's on stock CM10/AOKP kernel they would fix it.
Nothing personal dude, but I'm gonna have a hard time taking advice from anyone who runs warez (Lucky Patcher), especially when that advice is more or less plastered in ROM threads that people should be reading anyway.

Lucky patch has some useful features besides warez, like cleaning out rogue data files that prevent you from reinstalling an app until they are deleted.
Also I think the capitals should be more difficult, no?

Dear all my friends who facing the SOD (Sleep of Death) issue with their Android devices... i found that it is totally related to Wifi Sleep policy related... i just changed the setting last night n now after 8 hours its running fine... no SOD found till yet... i will also be inform u later if i will get my device out of SOD issue...
all of u just have to do one thing.
Go to settings>wifi settings>
from the options go to advanced settings
there is one option: Keep wi-fi on during sleep (go to this option)
there is 3 options: 1. Always, 2. Only when plugged in, 3. Never (increases data usage)
u just have to change ur option from 1 to 2 or 3, then i hope u will find that u will get ur device out of SOD issue...

Nauman
(sorry for the poor english)
My Nexus 5 (lollipop) was dropped and the screen has some small cracks in the lower 1.5 cm, but the digitizer is damaged in other areas. Currently the functional touch screen is all but ~7mm right margin plus some 5mm at the bottom margin, as follows:
Code:
[CENTER]|----------------|
| x|
| x|
| x|
| x|
| x|
| x|
| x|
| x|
| x|
| x|
| x|
|xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx|
|----------------|
[/CENTER]
where x is area unresponsive to touch.
e.g. I cannot swipe to the right not touch the most right buttons in the virtual keyboard.
Is there a software solution (probably requires rooting, preferably not) to limit the screen area of the android system? I mean tell the lollipop to only use the functional rectangle for display?
Thanks in advance!
(btw, I'm not a robot)
Is it OK to use bottom navigation along with tabs?
Sample scenario:
Tabs contains: Recommended | Popular | Action | Comedy | Drama
Bottom navigation contains: Store | Now Playing | Watch list | Profile

Hi folks,
Im not sure if this is the right place to post my thread, but I need help for my experiments on my powersaving module, which I developed for observing how different parameters such as GPU scaling, CPU scaling,
screen brightness scaling and Vibration Strength scaling could have an impact on the overall battery runtime of a smartphone.
For these experiments I developed a simple application which should stress the battery and therefore targets the parameters I stated previously. Note that all the parameters are scaled down progressively, meaning that reaching 90% [P9] , 80% [P8] , 70% [P7] etc. of battery charge, the parameters are scaled down according to this table:
|Max screen| Vibration| Max | Power | Max
|brightness | (%) | CPU | Bias | GPU
| (0-255) | | (GHz) | ( ) | (0 - 6)
----------------------------------------------------------
P9 | Default | Default | Default | 50 | 0
P8 | 150 | Default | 1958.4 | 50 | 1
P7 | 100 | Default | 1728.0 | 100 | 1
P6 | 40 | 30 | 1574.4 | 100 | 2
P5 | 30 | 30 | 1267.2 | 100 | 3
P4 | 20 | 30 | 1190.4 | 200 | 3
P3 | 10 | 0 | 1190.4 | 200 | 4
P2 | 5 | 0 | 1036.8 | 300 | 4
P1 | 3 | 0 | 1036.8 | 300 | 5
P0 | 1 | 0 | 960.0 | 300 | 5
My observations:
- Without scaling any parameter i.e. leaving the smartphone in its original state, it runs for approx. 4 hours
- Scaling down ALL parameters together, the phone runs for approx. 6,5 hours
- Scaling down ONLY the Screen brightness parameter, I can extend the run-time by approx. 1 hour, which proves that the screen brightness is the main cause for poor
battery runtime.
- Scaling down ONLY the vibration strength does not extend significantly the battery runtime
My module seems to behave correctly, however I cannot figure out the following issue:
- Scaling down ONLY ONE parameter, say CPU or GPU, I cannot see any siginificant improvement in battery runtime, sometimes there is even no actual impact !
I was looking on the internet and even on scientific papers for the cause of this behaviour, but I wasn't lucky !
Maybe you guys can figure out what the actual reason is behind this behaviour !
Thank you

Hoping so this phone deserves it
Since this phone will be sold in the USA as well, I have the feeling it will see some rom support in the near future. At least I hope so .
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
i have seen a custom rom in a folder o
i have seen a custom rom in a folder of my fav. dev. Tkkg1994 at android file host i dont know why he is not publishing it ... this rom is uploaded at 26 december but waiting for the dev to confirm us for installation thanks.
If you guys really want roms I would say get to learning to do it yourself as that is your best bet. Even though this device will be available around the world many devs do not like working on Huawei devices short of the Nexus line. Even the honor 8 didnt really see much for development even though there is a partnership with XDA. It didnt help. Yes there are a few but not nearly as many as there would be if people stopped waiting on other people to do things for them and stepped up themselves.

I wish to develop but I don't have the basis to do it. I hate to wait for someone else.
Not happening most likely. Especially with the new way to update/install Roms. Has Huawei ever released sources/files needed to do custom Roms.
I do miss the stock ROM for mate 8.
Custom Roms are not what they used to be. After going back and forth between Nexus up and mate 8 for the last year plus.

I assume that any custom rom would just be flashed in TWRP, though, so it wouldn't matter much.
before they can cook custom roms they must have to solve the partial root problem first,if not it will be just hopes and dreams.

Partial Root Problem?
I just saw the US release for this phone and was considering it to replace my Nexus6 (o.g.) since so far, nothing out there comes close to my N6. Of course I came on XDA first before ordering to check out the ROM and mod support for the phone since that is another "Must have" for whatever phone I get to replace my N6.
Doesn't seem to be too much activity in here, possibly because I thought the phone was only available for international sale until now? But if you are mentioning some sort of ROOT problem, then perhaps I'm going to have to keep on with my N6 until someone releases a comparable phone.
Based on what I have seen on XDA for Mate 8, I don't expect many custom roms. Maybe a few more than the Mate 8 depending on interest. For now I would be happy with root and Xposed (not yet ready for Nougat as I understand).
i just saw there is a new custom rom on chinese offical forum with root and instruction. But doesnt seems good

Hope to see a ROM besides the preinstalled one for this beastly phone.
KangVIP ROM is out for the Mate 9. If I do get the phone I'll be doing a stock based rom but I'm not sure if I wanna drop $600 right now. You need a Baidu cloud account to download the rom.

very nice to see custom roms out there. this is my first huawei some one can guide me how to flash custom roms
