So I got my replacement galaxy s 3 and for starters I have to admit that its much snappier then my last. I text a lot and one of the things that annoyed me was the fact that my text messages after a while started getting really sluggish in the app as in the keyboard would start freezing up and also the sending animation would slow down. So my question now is if this was due to the vast quantity of text messages I sent? (about a few thousand in some threads) And if that is the case will going under the settings and having my phone have a message limit and delete older messages prevent this from happening again?
Same thing happen to me always like new message take ages to open, keyboard just freeze,so I use sms backup application to backup my old messages and after that clear all inbox,in future if I need old message I just restore it.
I set my phone to auto delete after 2000 sms and 100 mms. Saves space and prolly makes the phone a little faster. Started doing it after I got so many on my last phone that I had to find the database for the texting app and delete that manually because the app itself couldnt hadnle the mass of texts it had to delete. lol
In past phones I had - like Motorola - text messages (SMS and MMS) are actually stored in a system app DB that would continue to endlessly grow as your message database grows. Thus, it eats into system memory. So yeah.. there is a benefit to keep it clean.

I'm starting to get wound up with the way WM6 handles texting, unsure if its specific to the Niki, or the Orange customisations.
I'm running the standard Orange customised firmware, and this is a list of the problems -
- it regularly just saves messages into the drafts folder rather than sends them
- takes ages (well maybe 10-20 seconds) to respond when attempting to send
- keeps a message in the outbox until I told it to send
- it will say "sending failed", whilst the recipient has actually received the message
Any when there's no signal, why doesn't the SMS system just keep the messages in the outbox until there is a signal? It just says "message can't be sent" and stick the message in the drafts folder.
Is this just standard windows mobile? If so, its pretty poor - Symbians messaging systems work absolutely perfectly in comparison.
So far my WM6(o2 xda stellar) seems to text just fine
Only issue same as one of yours is the no signal and moving the text to drafts and it does not resent as far as i know
I'm wondering if WM just isn't suited to anyone who does a lot of texting.
I'm on one of Oranges unlimited text plans, and I'm regularly doing 1000+ texts in a month. Not good though .... I'm thinking of starting to just use the Niki for calendar/data storage, its getting to be useless as a phone.
Yes it was badly designed... use PocketCM

I have got pocketCM on there, but that will use the same messaging subsystem, its just a different interface on the same systems. Which means it'll have exactly the same problems.
Ok, there's a lot that could be fixed in WM but sms seems to work pretty damn well. Especially 6.1's threaded sms is great to use. I've had no problems with it whatsoever.
For the past while, my Sprint Touch Pro has lagged and sometimes even locked up, when I bring up the text messaging tab after receiving an MMS message. I ignored it, as I really don't receive them that often. However, this last time I got one, and I was able to open it without my phone locking up. I viewed the picture, closed the sprint MMS app, and watched as the phone erased all 1800+ regular SMS text's before my eyes. I checked the deleted items folder, and only things I manually deleted are there, my sent items folder is still full, and all my old MMS messages still show up in the inbox. After coping with the fact that my years worth of texts was gone (Sprite Backup wasn't doing it's job right), I went on with my day. Turns out, whenever I get a couple texts, if I get an MMS, they're all erased. Or hidden. Or something else really annoying..
Anyone had a similar problem? I'm getting ready to install Arcsoft, but want to make sure my old texts aren't just locked up somewhere before I remove the default app.
xhorntail, the same issue is affecting a few of us using the NRG rom: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=69545&page=2217. Not sure what's causing it or how to make it stop though. MMS is built into this ROM so i cant even stop it.
I've looked everywhere and this seems to be a problem with a few android phones. When I reboot the phone (restart and close all apps), once it restarts it resends texts that i had sent from a time earlier. The only way I'm able to make it stop sending is to use a task killer after it starts sending. I did transfer my SMS from my previous phone but I deleted all my old text and it's still resending texts made from my inspire. Also I'm using the stock messaging app. Any suggestions?
Hi all, A co-worker has the Droid 2 and is about to receive her 3rd one in the mail tomorrow. The problem is that text messages are randomly cut-off or garbled to SOME people. I cannot seem to find anything to help her. The issue is not related to the size of the message (i.e. SMS converting to MMS) as it has occurred with one word texts as well as larger messages. Her D2 is stock. The recipients with issues have older (1 or 2 year old VZW phones. Guessing they are dumb or feature phones, but not sure). Here is what we've tried:
Example of a 1 word text: So I sent a text that said “busy?” and it came through to the recipient as “bus”
1. Turn off auto-correct in settings
2. Auto-Signature in settings is not checked (thought that might auto convert to MMS)
3. Switch to Handcent from stock messaging app. Same problem
4. Delete the contacts having trouble and then soft re-set the phone. Then add the contacts back in.
5. Replaced phone; same problem new phone.
6. Remove apps and replace one by one. Thought she had some luck with a camera app, but no go. The issue recurred without the camera app on the phone (have told her to check the camera apps settings to see if there is anything that could be adding pics to text messages without her knowledge. That would turn the message into an MMS. Long shot but worth a look.)
I feel like somehow all of her text messages are being converted to MMS but I cannot find any setting that would be causing this to occur. Cannot think of anything else. Anyone have any ideas?
I would try doing a factory reset without installing ANY extra apps, and see if it still happens. If it works, then slowly start installing apps until it starts again and you've found the issue. If it doesnt fix it at all, then I'd SBF and try as above. If still doesnt work then it's likely an issue with your carrier or maybe their carrier. (Person getting them)
My phone starts to clear group chat texts waaay too soon. The limit seems to be 20 texts, and that is not a lot when you are chatting with a group! i have tried looking through settings for a way to expand it and i could not. i also turned off auto-clearing in general, but it still deletes group texts.
i realize there are other apps i can use instead of stock SMS, but i really like to use as little apps as possible so i would appreciate replies other than "install X", but i'm not totally adverse to recommendations
In sms app got to setting then more settings and turn off delete old messages
I've done that
