[Lenovo A750] ROM Overview and Guides for Rooting/Flashing - Miscellaneous Android Development

I have about 15 ROMs here testing them and writing this overview but I cannot edit this post any more
Hi folks,
I like to do an overview of Lenovo A750 ROMs that are available on the web. Basically I am interested in Android 4 ROMs but we could list up 2.3 ROMs as well to have a complete list.
For that purpose I will update and extend this posting, that will be quite empty for the next hours. But I hope to get it filled this evening and with your help even more in the next couple of days.
I really hope that some people here speak Russian or Chinese and are able to post links found in foreign forums.
I found two topics in a Russian forum about A750 ROMs. One of them seems to be an overview:
http://www.forum.china-iphone.ru/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=20815&start=380
http://forum.china-iphone.ru/viewtopic.php?p=640831#p640831
I already tried some ROMs like Anton and apkhot but not sure if I found the most recent version. And I did not find them by Russian forums.
BTW setting language to English in build.prop before you flash is not a big thing.
So I'm going to collect everything I got now and it would be great if you could provide more links and maybe a translation of the Russian and Chinese ROM overviews.
Please let me know if you find any invalid links.

ROMs for Android 2.3 Gingerbread
Cybermaus S148 V1 (2012-04-28) Android 2.3.6
This ROM is not installed by loading a zip file from recovery. It will directly be flashed by USB cable. As the user data will not be overwritten, it had my German language selected. But the ROM only supports English and Chinese. Only some apps support German. So I had a mixture of English and German in my test. It has the GoLocker for Lenovo and the Idea Widget. That is how the launcher is called. So happy I found it.
It has some nice apps such as Car Mode or Lenovo Task Manager. Playstore is installed.
(Download a750_s148_120428_cybermaus_v1.rar from cybermaus' 4shared repository.)
BaderMQ S148 Multilang+Arabic Fix (2012-05-15) Android 2.3.6
This ROM is very nice. Its located to en/UK by default. Supports Multilanguage - at least German is supported quite good. Keyboard is only in QWERTY. It has two launchers installed and the nice lenovo lock screen. It has GoLauncher Ex but seems not to have a Widget. Lenovo Task Manager is a nice tool on that ROM. Playstore is installed but no File Explorer. I guess it's not rooted. Better link to discussion site appreciated if anyone knows.
Download Lenovo_A750_v1_BaderMQ.zip on 4shared.
ROMs for Android 4 ICS
Cybermaus S306 V1.3 (2012-06-18) Android 4.0.3
This ROM is mainly English and Chinese but has also some poor support of other languages (many items are still in English).
It has a Lenovo Magic Launcher with a buggy background, that may be fixed after changing the wallpaper a couple of times and rebooting.
Keyboard did not work until I installed the stock application ICS-keyboard.apk from here (German).
For installation first apply v1 and then update v1.3. Versions between can be skipped.
Download a750_s306_120530_cybermaus_ics_v1.zip and a750_s306_120530_cybermaus_ics_v1.3.zip from cybermaus' 4 shared repository.
ROMs that did not work for me
bgcngm S143 Hebrew fixed by BN (2012-03-29)
build.prop says it would be a S306 from 2012-05-30 and Android 4.03. Boot language is set to zh (Zhongwen - simplified Chinese). It also has a lot of Chinese apps in its system/app folder. To install I removed the assert from updater-script but then just got "installation aborted". Better link to discussion site appreciated if anyone knows.

[MIUI] Language pack - HTC EVO MIUI 1.7.15 Rom Spanish Updater - supersonic ** NEW **

Hello;
I am not sure if this the appropriate forum (mods. pls. forgive me if not!) but wanted to give credit to where credit belongs and also help the community users as I am sure they can benefit form this as I did.
First off huge thanks to StiffSpliff & MIUI US team; thank you sooo much for your wonderful work bringing us weekly the latest MIUI roms in US English. I am totally loving this.
So here It is;
This is a CWM-flashable zip.
**As always please make a nandroid backup first!! in case something does not work for you I am not resposible for anything and neither is the author of this updater pack. this is just being offered a service to latin speaking community. Also please make sure to clear Cache & Dalvik cache before installing this updater. ~ You could also install US MIUI rom and immediately apply this updater right after it back to back in one shot then just reboot without any problems. (I personally like to always do a second reboot after a new install just to make sure everything has settled in properly.)
* If you want your FM radio working properly!! First make sure you download and start off with this fixed version English Rom from here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?9reghw09az6ec9i
this base rom has the corrected boot.img for the FM radio: (thanks to lithid for this discovery.)
This special HTC EVO MIUI 1.7.15 Spanish language pack installs right over current MIUI 1.7.15 Evo Release.
http://www.mediafire.com/?c2woh58cw16kwhu
Then go to System settings -> language input settings -> select language to switch back and forth between ENG/SPA.
it will convert the above rom in to bi-lingual English/Spanish 100% working perfectly and tested by me on a couple of different EVOs. this is not an official update of any sort but was created as a favor for me personally by the talented dev. Juan Carlos Vázquez. All credit goes to Juan Carlos (JCG) the developer over at MIUI Espana and please show him some love the via donation link in this post. I just figured I will put it out for your enjoyment and doing so with his permission. I am sure a ton of people like me have been waiting for something like this as in this moment to my knowledge there are no other Official or Unofficial published updaters available to get Spanish MIUI on to HTC EVO 4G.
The beauty of this updater is that absolutely everything is converted in Spanish. Even your Google maps/Navigation will start giving Spanish guidance all of a sudden and my favorite:
~ Genie Widget if you have it? that is Google's News and Weather gadget will pull news from Spanish sources and display news in Spanish.
(if you look around plenty of that .apk is posted everywhere)
This language pack will also give you all the new updated locksreens in Spanish.
Again: Full credit goes to the very kind dev. JCG for this fine work. I am just passing it on.
Let me know if this helped you & if you like this work pls. consider donating to the author.

After Install go to your location settings and edit the GPS setting to your current location to override the default european setup.
This way you can get a very quick gps lock; in US type any of the US pools for example: north-america.pool.ntp.org
BTW. there is a new GPS driver out you may have seen this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15760767&postcount=30
according to the poster:
**NEW** - Qualcomm Vision GPS Driver v1.1 (recommended) - Updated fix with latest Qualcomm driver, should be less buggy. Fast gps locks, very accurate, no wake locks, no 100% cpu.
even though I had decent gps lock on my EVO running MIUI 1.7.15 decided to try this and indeed gives me a faster GPS lock.
i flashed this over the latest miui 1.8.26 and it didnt seem to work spanish was not listed under languages is there any way to make it happen with the latest version of miui 1.8.26
As the title of the thread says: this is clearly for EVO MIUI 1.7.15 Rom and ONLY for version 1.7.15 MIUI. Both files needed (the English Rom and Spanish language pack) are linked in OP and are working. No point in flashing this language pack on to any other version of MIUI as it won't work. The LP includes all system .apks modified in to bi-lingual so by flashing this on to any other version you are basically replacing all your rom's applications with this version software. therefore your ROM & LP versions must match!
Unfortunately there are no later or newer updates of this kind available anymore as the dev. for this has stopped working on this project alltogether.
... on the other hand IMHO MIUI 1.7.15 (July 15th) really is one of the best and most stable and faster than all other recent MIUI updates for HTC EVO I have tested! In the later versions they have changed a lot including new browser which I personally don't like much and still to this day issues with forceclosing voice search and overall slowness/sluggish performance. ..so you won't be disappointed if you try it with v.1.7.15
Please follow install instructions above exactly for best results. tkx

welcome here @ xda, wbaw!
keep up the good work!!!
Oh ! a modaco man on xda,welcome.
a new competitor for elitemovil
I don't really know why CM7 struggles with its own kernel. Wbaw said in some earlier posts on Modaco that this leaked kernel is way more buggy than the one used in CM7. I regularly switch to CM7 because of its features and to see the innovations in Android. But I always keep coming back to ROMs based on stock kernels because the CM7 kernel simply sucks. I use my Blade for more than half a year now and CM7 always disappoints me. These kernels are far better than the one CM7 is using, that's my own experience by using each ROM for a week or two. The best would be to mix all the good working stuff of the available ROMs into one.
Thanks to wbaw for joining xda. Great efforts!
guys, i used to own a blade, enjoy the best rom there is, and also give wbaw all the support he deserves, actually all devs deserve.

@wbaw
I found you ! .. keep up the great work man !
after my posting at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163609&page=3
it may not surpise you that I may try the b19, and that I just used your 'donate' link.
cheers mate.
btw,
just noticed that b19 is an all-in-one ... will it go on ok considering I already have clockwork installed ?
The all in one 'TPT' version is only for users with 'Gen1' phones which were sold with Android 2.1 (Eclair) who haven't updated to 'Gen2' radio firmware yet. It updates the radio firmware, installs the rom & the latest clockworkmod all in one. Because it is flashing the low level radio firmware & loaders there is a very small risk involved ... but it's the safest & easiest way to get to Gen2, it'll work even on an unrooted Gen1 phone. If you use the TPT version then follow the instructions carefully & I'm not responsible if you break your phone.
The all in one TPT version wont work on phones that were sold with Android 2.2 (Froyo) or officially updated to Froyo. Those phones are already 'Gen2', so they don't need any radio firmware updates, so they should just use the standard clockworkmod .zip file to install the rom.
If you used a previous version, then you've already got the Gen2 radio firmware you need for the rom. So you should install the standard clockworkmod version which is linked at the top of the post. There is absolutely no risk of permanently damaging your phone with clockworkmod.
HI!
Is this good ROM?
Does all work fine?
Is the Battery life good?
Does all works?
I maybe tested this ROM once really fast but it was older version!
yes, yes, yes, yes easy
Hey wbaw !
I just flashed this ROM and it is good but how many % it is completed?
and can you fix Estonian language? it works but: [settings --> applications] not work :/ maybe it need other Estonian language files to framework-res.apk ..?
I can confirm that com.android.settins force closes every time when i select any item under Settins>Applications when language is set to Estonian.
When language is set to English everything works fine.
I wonder were Estonian translation comes from anyway, since its only half translated and as far as i know it is not in stock Android 2.3.4 nor in CM7.
BTW any changelog from b17 to b19?
Thanks for a very nice ROM!

Almost all ROMs which have Estonian language but it's not Estonian ROM them not work fine!
some apps not work and some settings an other not work!
If anyone can find any Estonian Gingerbread 2.3 ROM then the language can be added to framework-res.apk and then it needs to work!
Sorry for bad English and sorry if I wrote something wrong to Estonian..
I live in Finland so I don't remember really fine how to write in Estonian and my English is not really good yet!
EDIT: If anybody can tell me how I can edit/fix language then plz. tell me! and what name Estonian language using in framework-res.apk ?
The Estonion language files were taken from CM7, that has much more complete language support.

OK
but it needs little bit editing or then need adding from other ROM the Estonian language..
when I have free time for ZTE then I can try to search better Estonian language to GingerBread!
CM7 is Gingerbread & it does fully support Estonian as well as many other languages.
Is anybody having trouble updating the launcher pro home launcher..???

I noticed that the music player not work!
I tried to get it to work with other language: English
but still not work!
how it can fix?
Do I need again to find one good ROM which works and are 100% stable... ?
:/
I will try to search official normal cra# 2.2 ROM back!
I cant use ROM which not work fully!
I don't even have time for ZTE because I edit ROMs for JetDroid and here finland schools starts again soon (only 7 days I have free time..) and then I don't have time to search or edit ROMs...
EDIT: How I can extract and re-pack the boot.img?
I don't understand how, I don't understand that how and when I try then not work.. is there any extractor program for .img files?
A little doubt about this ROM, does it support RDS for FM radio?

Huawei U8860 Honor / Honour / Glory - Index

Welcome to the Huawei U8860 Honor / Honour / Glory - Index!
(please treat this thread as dev-thread, it is part of a dev-forum, not Q&A)
Please don't PM me for support, I will ignore those requests - they are just too many and I'm not getting paid for that, I'm not huawei support. Just ask your questions somewhere in the forum, but in my opinion this thread is really not the place for it, since this is a developer forum and not the Q&A section. That's why xda-developers adds restrictions to post here for new users - to prevent this to be a Q&A-Forum. Please Try to ask your questions in the appropriate Q&A-Section of the xda-developer Forum.
Different versions of the Huawei Honor
There are two feature differences that I am aware of:
Number of Touch-Points: 2 or 5; I have 2 touch-points and with B977 my ProjectMenu just printed "synaptic" as touchscreen version, with B919 it states "synaptics-TPK.6"
Position of Huawei Logo on the back: in the top-left corner (china / russia?) or in the middle like this: http://kaefert.is-a-geek.org/huawei_honor/IMG_7491_small.JPG
It seem's there are versions without a camera? at least user limzm states in his signature his U8860 doesn't have one.
Backup & Recovery
In my opinion the first and most important thing when playing around with different ROMs, is the ability to backup and restore the phones ROM & state.
For this you need a custom recovery (which you will also need to flash custom ROMs, so you might only skip this if you want to only flash stock ROMs)
If you're on an 2.3.6 ROM, then possibly for this to work, you first need to flash a different stock ROM. There have been reports that with 2.3.6 the method below may not work. Also some newer ROMs like B923 and above have locked boot loaders, the latest ICS ROM that you can use for this is B919
NEW: CWM 6.0.1.0 with touch-support: MOD EDIT: Link removed.
OLD: download recovery-u8860-en.img from here MOD EDIT: Link removed.
make sure there is no directory named "dload" on your micro-sd-card - if there is, rename or remove it.
Turn off Fast-Boot, and shutdown your phone. If you don't know how to turn off Fast-Boot, pull the battery (it can be found in different places in different ROMs)
Press and hold volume-up, volume-down and power-button at the same time.
You should now see your phones screen pink (="pink screen mode")
Now connect your phone with an USB cable to a computer
A few disks should be mounted, search for the one that has an "image" folder with an recovery.img and a boot.img inside it. rename the recovery.img to recovery-bak.img (or simular) and copy recovery-u8860-en.img there and rename it to recovery.img
WARNING: Don't use the file recovery_v8.img which is referenced in a few other guides. It crashes and leaves you with non bootable phone-states and/or with unfished backups which cannot be restored.
ROMs
Stock ROMs (& leaked stock ROMs)
Stock ROMs (or leaked stock ROMs) can be flashed like this:
Download and unpack onto your micro-SD Card like that: /mnt/sdcard/dload/UPDATE.APP (some ROMs also have UPDATE_CUST.APP, copy it to the same place. If you're update has a second dload_cust (or the like) folder, you need to flash it in a second round just as the first one, by renaming it to "dload")
Turn off Fast-Boot, and shutdown your phone. If you don't know how to turn off Fast-Boot, pull the battery (it can be found in different places in different ROMs)
Press and hold volume-up, volume-down and power-button at the same time.
If everything above was done correctly, you should be able to watch your phone upgrading now.
Alternative: Some ROMs have an option in the settings that lets you start the upgrade-procedure without step 2.) and 3.) from above. If you can find it, you can use that one.
You can find stock ROMs here:

(thanks to user det-happy for pointing it out to me)
The most important Stock-ROM in my eyes (as base for most custom ROMs there are) is B919, find it here:

Custom ROMs
To flash custom ROMs:
download their .zip file and put it somewhere on your sd-card
boot into your custom recovery: turn off phone completly, then Long press volume up + power button (for installation of custom recovery see top of this post)
factory reset / wipe everything (not always necessary, but to be on the save side. Some ROMs will not work in some cases if you don't wipe first, however the other way round is also possible, there are custom ROMs that will NOT work if you wipe, best look at the instructions from where you downloaded the custom ROM..)
flash update zip -> choose zip from sd card.

Android 4.x MIUI ROMs
WARNING: most MIUI-ROMs have SMS-confirmations turned on by default, which costs extra with many providers (like mine..) so check it before sending your first SMS and turn it off
Sadly, these ROMs have serious RAM-problems, multi-tasking was quite impossible the last time I tried one of those (any app I tried to put into background was imediatly terminated)

Custom Kernels
I found a custom kernel that adds the option to overclock up to 2GHz. I'm used it running at 1.8GHz and it didn't seem to be any more unstable than before (I'm using the MIUI ROM which is a little bit instable all by itself already)
MOD EDIT: Link removed since you need to register to download the kernel, I also attached it MOD EDIT: Link removed to make it easier for you.
I also managed to build (and deploy) the 3.0.8 kernel sources provided by huawei myself, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23505650
With the help of the writer of rvoix I managed to adept our kernel in a way that rvoix works, but for the moment only mono so both parties mixed together in one channel (but recorded from the line, not only from the mic like most apps do). I attach the kernel that works with rvoix: View attachment boot_voc2.img.
Or for people wanting to build their kernels themselfs, here's the patch: http://code.google.com/p/rvoix/sour...pdragon/kernel/huawei_honor_u8860_rvoix.patch
UPDATE: Since our kernel sources don't work with B919 and later (non functional camera and wifi) I decided to go the other way round and modify the rvoix app to work with our kernel instead of adapting the kernel to work with the app. Here are the results: http://code.google.com/p/rvoix/downloads/detail?name=rvoix_mod_kaefert_v2.apk --> call recording that should work with all huawei honor 4.0.3 ROMs!
Various pointers
Adapting Chinese ROMs
Adding Google Apps (like the Market) --> Download zip from here http://goo-inside.me/gapps and flash it with recovery
Remove unwanted chinese system apps --> I do it with QtADB --> http://qtadb.wordpress.com/ But I guess you can also do it with some root app management apps
Change to languages that are not choosable in the standard language setting --> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.c_lis.ccl.morelocale
Reading chinese sites
People who don't use google chrome or the chromium project (yet) probably don't know, that it has a really nice built-in translating feature, thats very useful for finding your way arround all these chinese (or russian) websites, and much better then using translate.google.com (or other such services) manually with other browsers.
Miscellaneous
Silent Huawei camera (ICS)
I was annoyed one day by all the noises the huawei camera simulates. Therefore I investigated and found out how to make it silent.

Enabling logcat output on huawei phones
If your on stock ROM its quite easy, just dial *#*#2846579#*#* and enable logging in the project menu
For custom ROMs, I got a link from paul, but I didn't try it:

UPDATE
Sorry guys, but there won't be any updates by me anymore. I've moved on to Sony Xperia Z. The notoriosly low memory problem finally did it. (And Ingress)
There's a newer list of custom ROMs here:

Hi guys.
I've just cleaned this thread and would like to remind everyone about some points, so that they're not repeated in the future, and explain all the missing links you may notice.
Warez is strictly forbidden on XDA. Please do not link to websites that provide it, or to ROMs that contain pirated apps.
Kernels are licensed under the GPL. This means that the kernel's source should be provided. If it is not, it's illegal and will be treated as warez as far as XDA is concerned. In simpler terms: if you're posting a link to a ROM that contains a kernel, or a kernel, make sure the kernel's source is available and link to it as well.
Recoveries that aren't based on stock and that use a zImage (which is covered by the GPL) must also be provided along with the source.
Links to competing or commercial websites are not allowed. Links to websites that require registration to access downloads are also not allowed (there are exceptions, please see rule #11 for more info.)
Credits must be given, and you must have permission to share the work. Assuming that you do: if this goes against the point above, you may mention the member/website without linking directly to his work. Point #2 still applies - a link to the kernel's source must be provided if necessary.
I realize this may have caused links to your favorite custom ROMs to be removed, and I apologize about that. Many of you clearly put a lot of effort into building, maintaining and helping with this index. However, all posts must respect the rules first and foremost.
Please PM me if you have any questions or if you need further clarification.
Thanks for understanding.
Hey thanks so much for helping with this. I followed your guides and managed to get my Honor rooted and on an ICS version. Thanks so much.

You're welcome. However, for the future, if theres nothing you want to say but to give thanks to someone for a post above yours, don't answer with a post of your own, but just use the "thanks" button. Thats what it was made for.
However if there are some questions or some obscurities in my post, feel free to ask.

Well, I've been using it for 2 days now. I wouldn't call it stable, it has some rough edges, sometimes some system app crashes (like in the beginning I had a problem with the SMS-app), and I've had 2 complete system crashes (forced reboot) while running oruxmaps for navigation & gps-logging with my byclicle.
Check with you, if i installed the custom recovery, and root, can i revert back to stock by flashing via the settings menu or the vol/power button combination and stock rom in load directory?

Well the settings menue doesn't contain the huawei upgrade option in every ROM (for example not in the MUIU ROM), but the volumn up+down while booting will probably work, I haven't tried though. The upgrade directory however has to be call "dload", not "load".
To revert back to a previous ROM I find it much better to use the nandroid backup and recover options that every recovery image I saw yet contains. However be careful, the recovery-v8.img posted on some other places is instable and crashes before the backup is finished. you won't be able to recover such an incomplete backup. Always check if you have some backup complete message, it should NOT reboot automatically after making a backup.

As stated in my first post, I'm currently using the unofficial MIUI android 4.0.3 version from here:
MOD EDIT: Link removed.
I have one or two unexpected reboots every day.

Well the MIUI ROM has much more configuration options, for example you have a statusbar settings page where you can choose between default battery icon, percentage number or the top pixel row in green. Or also the MIUI theme chooser is really nice.
Another useful thing is the permission manager thats included that (if you config it that way) asks you whenever an app tries to use a permission that its defined to require. for example if you have an app that has the permission to send sms then the permission manager will ask you the first time that the app really sends an sms if you want to allow or deny it, and also if you want to save your choice or if it should ask next time again.

Hmm. Well the only ideas I have:
1.) Theres a 2G+3G / 2G only switch, in the MIUI ROM I linked in my first post you can reach it like this:
Home Screen --> Settings --> More... (4th point under the heading Wireless & Networks) --> Mobile Networks --> Only 2G-Networks
If that switch is on, than obviously your phone won't connect to a 3G network
2.) Your not in range of a 3G network?
Apparently there is bootloop issue for the newly released MIUI ROM 2.3.23 over at MOD EDIT: Link removed.
My experience is that I got stuck at the splashscreen as well.
I have download another at MIUI main site : MOD EDIT: Link removed.
and it works OK. Some portions of the UI are with Chinese texts and a few Chinese apps but overall still OK.

The ROMs that I know of and that I've tried you find in the first post. I found the loader (=desktop) of the non-MIUI ROMs to be faster and snappier. (However, the MIUI is more feature-rich)
Okay thanks alot I think I'm gonna give MIUI a try. Downloaded the latest version from the MIUI website. Have you tried any CM Release?

Help me members, trying to make it work for whole day s iii s3 ROM

hello friends,
My problem - I want everything in spanish in this i747m s3, this phone comes with only french, english and other character language,
I tried ALL ROOT APPS changing system locale, like morelocale, language enabler etc etc etc but none of them is changing system language to spanish
I then decided to install slimrom but it required TWRP and TWRP is not mounting my device storage.
Now I don't have any other option to modify stock ROM and add spanish language to that ROM and flash it.
Please tell me how to do it?
I have linux Mint distribution installed on this computer,
I found some link here, which one to follow, please add something if those links are missing some steps to add language in STOCK ROM.
