That means you have the GPS/some kind of location service turned on.

Thanks! It didn't look like the active GPS icon, and I actually had GPS off, but other location services running. turned them off and the icon went away.
Thanks again!

I don't think its GPS. It there regardless whether or not GPS is on. I do know it's proprietary to Verizon, though.

Looks like the icon for Emergency 911 Location Services... I haven't seen it on my phone, are you using a custom ROM?
Sent from my SCH-R530U using Tapatalk 2

This sign is in my status bar at all times and I don't have gps or any location services on

It's on my stock unrooted S3 all the time. It changes (the signal lines disappear) once you turn GPS off AND all other location services, but it remains.

Yeah..this is the e 911 location thingy..or can't be disabled on stock but I know I flashed synergyrom and it goes away..pretty annoying actually..I hated it up there all the time.
Sent From my Verizon Galaxy SIII Running SynergyRom 1.5 with Imoseyons Beta v0.1 Lean Kernel Overclocked @ 1.9ghz

i would like to know aswell . i asked a samsung represntative that came to show off the gs3 and he said"it must be a verizon thing ,because that is the only carrier i see it on ".

The one without the little bars next to it is for e911, which is always turned on. The one with the bars is if any other location services are turned on.

If you're on a stock ROM, you can get rid of the icon, by replacing your systemui.apk with the one in this thread.
Alternatively, you could decompile the apk, delete the icon's png, recompile it and push it to your phone. That will let you keep any theming or other mods done to your systemui.apk. If you've never done any sort of theming or modification work before, it's a good one to start with, and to get your feet wet with apktool.

It means THEY know where you are...

Has anyone seen the eye I only saw it once for a split second

Nonononono do NOT decompile and delete images. You need to extract it, delete the images, then zip it up. Or just use ninjamorph. But decompiling is for editing .xml files

Yeah this is the method I used. It also frees up the space for other icons if needed (it does not retain the spot for the icon).
But note that when an OTA update comes it will likely fail since you tweaked the SystemUI.apk & your start up screen will also now likely show the Custom with lock icon.

Basically, toggles in your shade instead of the carrier name.

Awesome man, that's perfect. Now I just have to figure out how to get rid of the carrier label altogether . Any ideas? BTW, how'd you change your font?
I use the liberty 1.5 rom, it has a bunch of options for fonts and lets you change the carrier name out to whatever you want. So far its been very stable for me and much quicker than stock.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Yeah, I saw the font options, but I'm not sure what adding a font does.. for instance, what'd you do in the toolbox that sets the widget font?
And I'm not talking about changing the text, I'd like to find a way to remove that whole bar, 'cause it just takes up space. I think you can do it in stock.. it's called a "roaming banner" i think
Changing the font effects all the text, everything from Widgets to menus to even the text on most websites in the default browser. It even changed the font in my clock widget. As far as removing the carrier label on the notifications I'm not sure how to remove that waste of space. I never looked into it but now since you mentioned it it's bugging me too. Let me know if you do find a way to remove it.

You long press on the home screen and select add widget like you would when adding a widget to the home screen, select widgetsoid then select a switcher widget. Pick the options you want it to have then go to the advanced tab and select both notification and make invisable. Click apply and it should now show up in the notifications bar. If you want to edit it just open widgetsroid and it will be in the widget tab. Hope this helps.

You can remove it with a metamorph, if you edit the xml in /layout/status_bar_expanded.xml I'm trying to put one together to do this. Right now I've managed to remove the grey area, only thing missing is moving the "clear" button some place else.

Have you been able to figure out a way to move or resize the clear button yet? I really wish I could move it to the bottom of the notification bar. Better yet, I wish there was an app/widget that automatically cleared all new notifications. Been looking for something like that for months without any luck...

[ACS][WIP][MOD]Am / pm toggle in settings

This is something I been working on for the better part of the day. I can use some testers and some fresh eyes from someone thats familiar with smali.
What this mod does is add a am/pm toggle switch in settings apk. This allows you to remove am/pm as you please. This mod consist of services.jar and settings.apk. This was orginaly created for the vibrant from s0niqu3 and his thread can be found here
On my phone the toggle is there in settings/date and time but it dosnt change the status bar like its suppose to. Someone else tested for me and the get a UID mismatch and settings disappear. If you dont know what your doing or how to fix something when it breaks please dont bother flashing this.
Your flashing this at your own risk so dont hold me responsible. Please report back any findings so i can get this to work. The source can be found on s0niqu's thread.

Can you also add a toggle to just disable the clock entirely? Most of us have clock widgets, sort of redundant to also have it in the notification bar.

True - but there was a working Gingerbread theme for DK28-based CyanogenMod. Not sure how that was done though.

You need to recolor the decompiled png and then compile in order to ensure the patches are fine. Also make sure, you don`t alter the 000000 of the patches while changing the color.
is there a way to change the background color to black? (would make a lot of sense on an amoled screen)
Yes - there always is. Just haven`t looked into that one yet, since it`s always a lot of work and other dev projects have priority atm.

[Rom][Port] |GB| Joy OS! | Clean & Fast

Well hello there! I have this shiny new toy for the never dying evo 4g
Joy OS
Here is the Kernel Source for the Official CyanogenMod 7.2 ROM that I used as a base.
Is a fantastic slim rom, GB 2.3.7 goodness what more to ask for
It takes on the resemblance of iOS in many ways possible super sleek, fast and under 70mb. Its beautiful :victory:
It doesnt have 4G. But its in the works, you can count on it coming
There isn't any other way to describe how awesome this little rom is so lets move on to what works and what doesnt.
- Working
so far everything looks solid
- Not working and issues
4G. Its coming soon
Notifications in status bar doesnt fit on one line
usb mount is hit or miss
Whats planned in the future of this rom you say?
Well, 4G, some nice tweaks, and some theming done to make it look a tad more like an iPhoney
Now lets not forget the credit thats needed.
Thank you the.emilio
Thank you megaghostgamer
Thank you Cyanogen Mod
Thank you Joy OS team
Thank you XDA
anyone I miss? let me know in pm

Make Joy look more like an iPhone
The best part about android is you can theme it to what ever you like
You will need the following apps:
Espier Launcher
Espier Browser
iPhone keyboard emulator
iPhone Notifications
Chomp SMS
These are all free apps that will make your Joy install look like iPhone a bit more
Last but not least, you are gonna need iPhone wallpapers! (these are not flashable, decompress and move to your sd card then apply with a file manager)
iPhone iOS 6 wallpapers
one more for me

Easy enough fix... just change the font!
I'm not sure what I chose atm but I also think there's a tool to scale fonts if someone wanted to fix the proper font for the rom. Something I looked into before roboto became the standard for Android and I thought I'd try the alternative.
I may find a sound pack, an ios theme for ICS keyboard and then Nandroid a backup to play with from time to time!
When trying to set up Exchange email, Settings force closes when the account begins to set up as Device Administrator. Aside from that, everything seems to work.
