[KERNEL] Need help to build a kernel - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi !
I've been trying to build Samsung's kernel sources for the GT-P5100. I have manage to build them thanks to their readme, which is pretty streight forward.
Then I extracted an initrd.img from a stock kernel and I inserted the modules I built in that image. I repacked the kernel and flashed it but is does not work (I'm stuck in a bootloop during the first Samsung screen, right after the boot sound starts).
If anyone here has managed to build your own kernel from the same sources, could you tell me which options did you use to build it ? It doesn't boot far enough for me to get any logs and I'm a complete noob so it's hard for me to tell what is not working.
Thanks !

Overclocking Kernels?

I seriously looked around in the forums and have seen a lot of nice looking roms with an overlock kernel, however I really do like the stock rom on my phone and for some reason I am just not seeing strictly overclocking kernels. I am rooted and have my bootloader unlocked with CWM recovery installed. Can someone please post me a link of give me some names for overlocking kernels? I am on Verizon SCH-I535 version. Thank You!

You need to post all questions in the Q&A section of these forums. http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=256
As far as I can tell the custom kernels are all tied into the ROMs themselves. Synergy's kernel allows OC.Please read the rules or think carefully before posting. If unsure just hit up the rules or go to General. Development is the last place you should be posting.

[Q] Broken Root

Hey guys I recently flashed the newest version of omnirom and I think it broke my root? When it first loaded up superSU was not present so I downloaded it and opened it but it said the binaries needed to be updated but it keeps failing. Is there away to fix this?

do not post these threads in the development sections. only if you are developing somwthing does it go here. questions go in q&a, same if you need help. something so basic as this you should have searched for, not a thread posted to original development. bad boy!

[Completed] [HELP] Need help porting kernel

Hello devs.i have been on the forum for a while now and have been searching for guidlines on kernel porting. i am trying to port the thunderzap ics kernel for the micromax a110 to my device.my device have no development or source support,.it is of the same SoC as the a110 (mediatek mt6577) so it has sone compatibility.now here is my progress.
i have been able to dump boot and recovery images, port cwm 5.x(quite old), extract the boot.img and zimage. got the initramfs, can read peggy and other related files in the initramfs and i am able to identify most device drivers. now i have the source code for the custom kernel, but i need help locating those drivers from different sources on github, changing neccesary files, finding where to place the drivers and creating some sort of build profile or setup so that i can upgrade the source to newer versions,
thanks
PS. if this thread is in the wrong section .please move it.
Hi,
I can't move your thread, because you need to read read read before posting questions in the following section. The members there will help, but only after someone has educated themselves as much as possible... There's many guides and tutorials to look through here, and if you get stuck on something after doing your homework, then you can ask for help...
> Chef Central > Android
Good luck!
Thanks. i will check there to see if i can find anything i would need.
Awesome! Good luck!

Hi,
I can't find a relevant thread for your issue, but I see you are familiar with your device section... Which is where you should seek help.
Like this dedicated help thread in your devices Q&A section, http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/help/help-post-questions-instead-making-t3053516
XDA Assist is here to help navigate the site, not for support. And you found your way. :good:
I'll close this thread.
