HTC One XL will not boot - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I have a HTC One XL from AT&T, It's black... when i plug it in to the pc it sees it as something strange, so i installed an HTC driver for it, says the device can not be started. If i hold the power button to reboot it i hear the noise from the pc that usb has been disconnected. Can not access bootloader, adb devices shows nothing... RUU wont wor either. is it bricked?

It could be, or it could be that your screen died on you. Have you tried holding down the power button for 12 seconds to turn it off? Then, hold volume down and press the power button to see if it makes it into the bootloader?

[Q] No power One X - Wrong ROM install

I've did some searching on this and tried everything listed but I may have a unique case here. I had a buddy call me a couple days ago and tell me about his issue with his One X. I started digging on here and found a couple of tips and tried them all for him and no go.
I asked him what he was doing when this happened. It is a Rogers One X and he attempted to install a CM9 ROM for the international One X. He assumed a One X was a One X. I've only dabbled with my Galaxy Nexus and Transformer Prime, but I'm assuming this is the issue with his phone. Am I wrong?
Is there a way to fix it? I've had the phone for a couple of days and I can not get it to power up. The LED doesn't come on either when the usb cable is plugged in. I've tried a couple different chargers and cables and same result.
Hoping I can some how save this for him.

Tried this...dead. No response from it at all. Would the CM9 ROM push out a different boot.img file and that be the problem?

yeah that's part of it.
does the phone show a light when it's charging? If NOT it's a brick.
If so, there might be a way to save it.
charge it fully
power it up holding the volume button DOWN. If you can get to the bootloader you're not bricked and can re-install the rogers firmware.

yes...but it should still hit the bootloader, hell even recovery. try the same method with vol up instead... then plug into pc... see if there's any connection.
This thing takes forever to boot compared to me older devices. I'm thinking it's not totally off... try holding the power button for a long time... like 15 seconds +. see if any lights flash..
The trick is we need it in a full off state and power it up with vol down and power.
It could be in a kernel boot loop that you can't see anything.

Nope not at all. Other then voiding the warranty, which with the bootloader unlocked is probably voided already, I'm debating cracking into the case and unhooking the battery and rehooking it up.

It actually might be recoverable, but it's a lot of work.
Do this.
On a linux machine, while plugged into usb - push and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Release it. IMMEDIATELY and REPEATEDLY do ls /dev/sd*
Do the ls over and over again (for around 20 seconds or so) and see if a bunch of new devices show up and subsequently disappear.
If they don't, push and hold power for another 10 seconds, release, repeat.
If you get devices to show up, it's recoverable.
He bricked, is a shame but that's the risk you take when you flash a ROM meant for another phone...

samsung infuse download mode help

So, my sister infuse recently got into boot loop. I couldn't get into download mode with all the 3 buttons method, so I decided to get a usb jig. It arrived today but once it enters download mode it leaves it after a couple seconds so I can't even plug the usb cable into it. I tried charging the phone for 6 hours but when I plug it in, it goes in a charge loop where it resets and shows the charging circle every couple of second. Anybody know any other tips that made help? I'm thinking it turning to a hardware brick instead of a software brick.
It's possible your power button is messed up...
Also you tried download mode wrong...three fingers is for recovery...
Download mode:
Pull battery
Put battery back in
Hold volume up+down
Plug USB cord with heimdal or Odin running on pc
You should now be in download mode
Here's a thread about the possible power button prob...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764079

I need help!!!!!

I bought a phone called Samsung Captivate from craigslist. The bad thing about that is the power button did not work. I knew it didn't work thinking I could fix it. I took the phone apart to clean the button. I read that a "CRC QD Electronic Cleaner" would help. I used that. It didn't help. I am think that software is the issue. I want to return it to a stock ROM becuase this phone is rooted. In order to do that I need the the power button to work, to enter it into download mode. Ive tried apps to shutdown the phone, Nothing would help. If anyone can help me that would be awesome.

If you want to turn it off just pull the battery. You don't need the power button for download mode. hold both volume buttons and plug in the usb from the computer

There are thankfully multiple ways to get into the recovery and download modes. Definitely get a handle on the ADB command line to, it's the easiest in my opinion.
If you can't fix the button don't sweat it, I've used my cappy for the last 6 months without it. Use ROMs that have a "volume rocker unlock" feature and learn to use the soft buttons to navigate recovery mode.

Can't get into hboot / recovery / fastboot

So, I thought I knew what I was doing, but apparently not.
I tried flashing XYLON.
Now, the phone gets stuck on the boot animation. I've been trying to get it to work for the last 12 hours. It either gets stuck on the boot animation, or on the "Android is updating" screen. I can't even get into the hboot to boot into recovery.
Can anyone recommend a course of action to bring my phone back to life?

Hold down power until lights flash 7-10 times. Simulates a battery pull. Then push volume down and press and hold power button for 4-5 seconds, then release power while still holding volume down.. should go to bootloader. Sounds like your not timing it correctly

Well, I'm still trying that. I've done it the way you''ve mentioned it here as well. Trying it again now. I've never had problems getting into my hboot before. :S

I've tried that.I kept it for an hour, let it go as far ahead as it would. ADB does not see it.
I agree, if you cant get Into bootloader its a timing issue. Try holding the power buttons until the capacitive buttons blink 7 times or so, when the screen goes black let go of power and press and hold only volume until the bootloader comes up. This way is almost impossible to miss.

RUU doesn't work. I can't get RUU to detect my phone. It doesn't boot up. It's stuck at the boot logo. And even if I leave it connected to ruu while i'm trying to reboot, or trying to get into hboot, it still doesn't detect my phone.

Well, I've already pulled my phone apart once to replace my broken screen. Which is why I'm suspecting it could be a hardware problem. Somehow. *sigh*
And I'm in. Finally.
I let the phone's battery drain completely. I pulled apart the phone, and pressed down on the volume + power pins/buttons directly. And I got into the boot loader.
I'm currently restoring the backup of the rooted stock rom I always keep on my phone storage.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions and support.

So my situation is similar but my htc inc s is brand new from ebay china seller ( I live in Greece), is s-on, never messed up with, never rooted all factory. It worked great for few days and after the first OTA update I cant get into hboot, adb doesn't see the phone, always the updating symbol on screen.Tried battery pull, volume down + power in all the possible timing and combinations but yet nothing! Also I tried battery pull, volume up + power it vibrates 3 times orange lid is on and black screen (on the forums is said that this is diagnostic menu). So I think maybe this phone is a refurb and not new since the answer from HTC global support (after sending my IMEI and S/N) is that this phone is for Indonesian market and that its warranty expired year ago! Can you help me in some way guys...

Firstly, why are you trying random button combinations? There's only one button combo that you should use and that's power + volume down. Next, when you connect the phone to your PC, does it show up in Device Manager? What does it show up as?

There's plenty of information right here in this device section that tells you exactly which button combo to use. Just trying random things is a very bad idea, that's how you damage your phone. Anyway, are you sure you can't get into the bootloader? Hold the volume down button, then hold the power button (so you're holding both buttons together), after a couple of seconds let go of the power button but continue to hold the volume down button until you reach the white screen with text, this is your bootloader.

It isn't something you can do yourself. I'm not sure where you are in the world but you'll need to find a professional who can do it for you. If you're in the US I hear good things about Mobiletechvideos, I don't think they have a web site but they're on YouTube and Facebook.
