How important is pixel density in a tablet? For example Samsung GT2 = 149ppi Ipad 3 = 264ppi
Aesthetically, there can be quite a large difference, especially if you're viewing close to the screen and/or reading on it. It becomes less obvious the further you get away, but the higher the density, the higher the potential for detail in apps, text, video, and anything else you're viewing.
IMHO it doesn't dramatically change the user experience, but once you get used to a high pixel density, whenever you see something at a lower density, it just doesn't look as good.
I'd say go to a local electronics shop and test out devices with varying densities and see if you can notice a difference.

So, comparing the Sammy to the ipad 3 theoretically the screen density of the ipad would give you better images, video, text etc?
Short answer: Yes.
Long(er) ansewr: With text, definitely so. With the images and video, it would depend on the resolution of the source files, but either way, it's likely to be a noticeable improvement.

Try adjusting the TV set instead.
Bye.

There should be some settings on the TV - I am not sure about the TV you are using, but on my older 720p Panny Plasma, there is a 1080p option to chose, and then the TV will downscale it to its native format (720p). My guess is the TV is set at 720p or something else, and actually should be set higher if possible, and then it will downscale accordingly.
i have t 1080p tv and when i connect my ASUS Transformer Pad infinity TF700T to the tv at first it shows a 16:10 mirror of what I have on the tablet then when i go to the settings all the way down to the HDMI settings, it changes the output to a full screen 16:9 without the status bar on the tv and on the tablet the wallpaper moves up.
if i run a game or browsing the web its full screen on the tv without the status bar 1080p with 60 FPS.
by the way the 3d works great on the tv and i will make a video showing how good it works

Worked for me as well, but works even better on my TV since I'm back home (just bought a nice new 32" Vizio LED HDTV that can actually do 1080p).

There was a setting in the prime that allowed you to crop or fit the image to the tv. I just doing think Asus thought about adding it yet.

Yeah there was a setting on the Prime, that was added ever several updates following it's launch I was disappointed to see the Infinity not have this same setting seeing how it's suppose to be ahead of the Prime on features.

This irks me as well. My Prime looked great on both of my HD tv's. The infinity on the other hand not so nice. I hope the infinity receives the same settings update that the prime received.

No, right?
So this display only looks beautiful and awesome when reading books, news,... watching 1080p videos? If that'strue then i think i'd go for the 300 because i usually watch 720p videos, which should look good on a 1280x800 screen and i only read books sometimes,
Browsing too, but for 720p videos TF300 should be enough.

so there are no optimized games or apps for this tablet? (even one)
What do you mean by optimised? There are many that look fine
There are some apps for FHD displays, search the Playstore.
Generally text will look better than on lower-resolution screens, textures won't, especially in games.

In my opinion *everything* will look better on the TF700. Besides the resolution, the contrast is WAY better on the TF700.
The difference is noticeable *everywhere* - I especially notice it while web browsing!
I don't know, if I were buying new and could afford it, I'd definately go for the T700 - it's slightly more future-proof at least - seems to me it's just better all of the way around....

Due to the way Android handles its resolution scaling, its not a problem for some apps. Basically, the infinity identifies as a 240dpi device. Any apps that run on both phones and tablets should be covered since the resources would be there for 240dpi phones. Tablet only apps and games would need to be updated, as would apps that don't properly handle doing scaling due to sloppy programming. You can see this in action with the stock Google apps.
And as the question was about the apps stop the blind advertising
PS The game is on! What a great show. So much better than in Beijing.

Well, just to let you know, connectbot makes full use of the display, it has the highest resolution terminal I ahve seen for a while.
Also, Chrome seems to make good use of the display.

how to tell?
can we easily test the resolution of apps?
Is there a way to take a screen shot and measure pixels, or the ratio of resolution?
After the recent firmware I noticed chrome looked more resolute, finer grained.
Especially google+ icons were smaller.
this is the only HD device so perhaps google android SDK needs to update first to support the screen size?
Perhaps the emulator would support our TF700 screen and other future device?
bottom line, how to measure apps externally for HD?
Hi.
I just read a review on a Norwegian site that mentioned that they could "see the pixels", as they put it, on the display.
This was apparently due to the resolution being low for a 10".
Before I purchase the TF300T, I would really like to know if you actually can "see" the pixels, or is the display smoother than they give it credit for?

Maybe with a microscope.. I they might mean the light bleeds thpugh

I am thinking about upgrading from the transformer prime to the infinity. Are there many apps that take advantage of the infinity screen resolution of 1920 x 1200.

Short answer: no. Longer answer: there are not that many apps that take into account the HD resolution natively, but the diffeence with lower resolution screens, such as the Prime's, is abundantly clear, even on the home screen. When I'm reading a pdf file, say, or while watching a movie that's not downcoded too much, it's great as well, and a difference of night and day compared to the TF300T of a colleague.
The difference is big on any website or any app that displays text for that matter (email, readers, you name it). The text us clear and crisp, makes reading so much better.

When taking pictures or videos, the result is always really, grainy, you could say. Anyone have a clue why so? I mean, it is supposed to be a 8 MP camera and a full HD screen. Is there anyway to improve the quality?

Are there camera apps to get better results?
There are several things:
1) Stock camera app is rather crap. Try another, I'd suggest Camera FV-5
2) Auto mode = NO. Anything set to auto is going to be of less quality than manual.
3) On a 16:9 ratio, you CANT use the full 8MP. 6M, at most.
4) ISO quality. The lower the number, the less grain, but a longer shutter speed.
5) _that already said it, more light.
Tylor,
If I may add also...another app I had found useful is "Shot Control"
For $2.99 usd it has been a good camera add-on.
