Atorrent slowdown - Asus Transformer TF700

After figuring out I can run torrents from my Infinity I decided I would keep it and enjoy the media available to me. Problem is when I run atorrent I cannot use the tablet for anything else. 3-5 second delays with key selection, apps freeze when I try to open them, etc.
Is there a way to throttle how much CPU atorrent takes?

I don't think its cpu related, torrents constantly write to disk at a high rate, Infinity uses very slow write/read flash memory, don't think you can do much about this.

There are apps for monitoring these things like CPU Tablet Usage Monitor, System Tuner and the like, but unfortunately it's probably the poor I/O performance of the Infinity, mate. Same as when copying files.

Has anyone done a benchmark on the Fuze CPU?

Specs show a 528mhz cpu but I read that it's only giving 400+ (forget the number). That's a substantual drop. My old BJ1 had a program to over clock it - and I don't have it now so can't give the program name. Has anyone done a benchmark to see if this thing is throttled down to preserve an already sad battery? That could explain the slowness on the screen ( 640x480 on gps updates has got to be taxing the cpu to draw that moving map and calculate) and perhaps even the dslreports testing as the data couldn't be processed fast enough. I don't know - but there is a bottleneck somewhere and if the programs aren't eating up the 256ram and 512rom that processor needs an overclock to reach it's 528mhz. You can google "overclock mobile cpu" and have plenty of hits. Just what would run on the Fuze? Remember on your older PCs how if you didn't have enough memory and cpu it would swap out to the disk to clear the memory - flashing that drive light like crazy and all but stopping the PC. No one says exactly what they have loaded, and the cooked ROMs have the bloatware removed to free the memory. Kick the CPU now and let's see how that works. ed

I can't recommend Autokiller highly enough on Samsung Froyo phones. It was a must use, even with Voodoo, on my old SGS i9000, and the same thing on my Droid Charge.
True story: just this morning I was ready to throw my Charge against the wall in frustration. Ever since upgrading to EE4 the damn thing was LAG LAG LAG city, even with Voodoo. Phone was snappy as heck after a reboot, but after a couple of hours use, it started to lag, and then would get so laggy it was almost unusable. Seriously, opening apps would take 10 second. Auto-rotate the screen took 4-5 seconds.
I enabled Autokiller, set it "aggressive" and the phone's a speed demon again.
Try it, can't hurt your phone with it, might help it exponentially.
waiting for the phones built in lowmem killer is useless, use autokiller and you will notice an immediate improvement in phone response time. heres a point for ya, without it installed i have 78mb ram free,,,with installed 158ram. thats huge. for a phone. plus they dev just updated to reduce memory usage of the app itself, plus there are tweaks in the settings menu to make the IO scheduler more aggressive, improve sd card reads, battery life, wifi, networ,...its layered man. and free....whats more to love. the only other way i have found to improve phone speed feelwise is with kangfucius kernel and set that terd up to 1500hz with cfq. shazaam.

Basically what you're doing is tweaking the settings for how Android frees up your memory. In theory, it should be good, because the defaults that were picked with the Android release aren't going to be appropriate for everyone. Just be careful not to be too aggressive or you might start losing functionality you want, such as alarms or background email checks.

Good point on not being too aggressive. The higher you set it, the more sticky sports ate pushed out of memory, so with the settings I have right now the phone kills some things that in the oat would have been running when I went back to them. I'm going to drop down from aggressive to strict and see if that's a better balance for how I use the phone.

Android is linux based right? I.E. it uses a linux kernel? I was under the impression that was true. If so, unless you're running into the problem of completely filling RAM and having to wait for stuff to be cleared, this kind of thing will not help you!
Linux intentionally leaves commonly used items in RAM in order to decrease access time. It is perfectly normal for such a system to run at 70-80% memory usage. It is, in fact, a GOOD thing, because it means more memory is actually being put to a potentially useful purpose.
That being said, if you're actually running out of RAM I suppose something like this could help.

Yes, yes, I frequently give the "in linux free memory is wasted memory" whenever people want to use some taskkiller app because they want a lot of free memory. This isn't about shooting for some high free memory number because we're Windows minded and think we need a lot of free memory, this is about finding the right settings for Android's own memory manager to keep the phone responsive. There's been something about my Samsung phones (except the Nexus S) where they just get laggy as hell with the stock memory manager settings.
As described above, my phone was almost unusable after a couple of hours booted up until I enabled Autokiller. Maybe something I'm running has memory leak; could be, but I pretty much run the same apps on all my phones, and the HTCs and Nexus S don't get laggy like the i9000 and Charge do.
This app, or the one named MinFreeManager really help. In the early days of the i9000 on MoDaCo site we were using the cat command to tweak the settings manually in our efforts to find a way to stop RFS lag before Voodoo came along.
I just installed this yesterday and configured it for strict mode. I also enabled all of the advanced system tweaks and so far I haven't noticed much if any difference, perhaps it depends on your individual usage and what apps, launcher, etc you're using. I'm going to leave it on and see how it goes though.
Any still using this? Any want to share what settings they use?

Available RAM Dilemma on the Droid Charge

I'm currently running EP1F Debloated with Gummy Charged
The phone typically says that, out of 312MB of accessible RAM, there is 60MB or less of free RAM.
i'm running GO Launcher EX, and on it's RAM meter, it's almost always in the Red (signifying that it's almost Maxed out in available RAM)
is this normal?
of course, any time i quit all open applications, the usuals always reload, but then sometimes odd programs will run in the background (i.e., netflix, google+, music, amazon appstore, picasa, ustream, etc). These are programs that I haven't even loaded or ran. they just like to load themselves up and run in the background. so because of this, my available Free RAM tends to sit at 39-55MB. that seems VERY low to me. and may be the reason why my phone tneds to bog down a bit and lag every now and then, when i'm going from app to app.
I know EP1F doesn't have voodoo lagfix yet (like it did on EE4), but this unusually high consumption of RAM seems odd to me.
does anyone have any input on this?

If you havent ran, and don't run those programs just get rid of them
no no no... I definitely run them. but it's probably a few times a day, sporadically.
but i don't need them to be running in the background, hogging RAM. whereas, i'm totally fine with an app like Gmail to always be running, since i check that all the time.
I use Autokiller Memory Optimizer, set to "optimal" preset. It's not a task killer, it just changes Androids settings to close programs at different trigger points. Keep some free ram and keeps the system from bogging down.
I also use Autostarts, which disables programs from starting up at startup or for other notifications that are set. Some programs still start themselves but it helps.
Why do you want free RAM? Unused RAM is doing nothing for you, Used is holding a program ready to launch so it's faster and needs less CPU to launch. Ideal RAM usage is 100% because the system will automatically make room for a new program to run.
Have you ever gotten a message that an app can't launch due to low RAM? Using RAM doesn't mean using CPU or battery. It just means ready to run faster.

I/O is input/output, basically reading/writing to the flash memory.
It can mean a lot of things depending on context, but in this case it refers to how fast data can be written to or read from the device's flash storage. As a way to save on ram use, applications will sometimes write data to storage so it can easily access it later if needed.
For example, all web browsers written within in the last 10 years do this as a way to speed up loading on frequently visited websites. That's why the ANRs are most common in the browser, and why using hacks to run the browser completely from ram fix the issue on the Prime.
The problem is, if you have slow disk access (be it by hardware limitations or, as appears to be the case here, poorly written software) everything grinds to a halt until the current operation and everything that was backed up as a result gets finished.

System monitor app

Hey guys , does anyone know any app that can monitor rooted phone (s8 exynos) on background . Every heat , every app behavior , any abnormal changes , speeds , anything. I know there are plenty of apps for that , but after downloading plenty , couldn't p pin point the one I need.
I use Simple Sytem Monitor.
It can monitor Ram, Network, Disk Activity, CPU Usage, CPU Frequencies(Graph and Time), Temps ans Battery Temps. Can run in background, prevent screen off while in app. Test read/write speed, floating windows etc
You can also list running processes and sort them from RAM Usage, CPU Usage, Network Usage, Network speed, Name, PID, UID etc. It even features a Kill process as root.
Amazing for finding out high CPU/Memory using apps, even lists system apps ?
