I dont have a nandroid backup for months and got some really important (like career important data) which isnt synced anywhere.
so this is what happens:-
I go to play football while leaving my aokp p500(ICS) with a friend (Pattern Lock Enabled).
He, being the enterprising person he is, starts messing around,
Enters Wrong Pattern sufficient times and gets Locked Out of it.
The screen's asking for my gmail credentials. so i should just go ahead and enter it, right? Right?
No, fellow people. wrong!!
As it turns out, being the battery nazi that i am, i had innocently turned that little Data Toggle To Off.
So, the sign in is trying to connect to google, But unfortunately, its against google policy to enable offline password verification.

If you booted into recovery and made a nandroid backup, then wiped and restored, would it remember that you maxed your pattern attempts?

Yea, they can, but not so much when you have an important work to do in the morning(phone plays a major role, as the contacts are in it).
and secondarily, its a time consuming process which is precisely an asset i dont have.
what i was looking for was some kind of workaround, or something like that, like enabling data via adb(if there exists a thing like that)
If you reflash aokp without wiping anything all of your data will still be there but the passcode lock should be removed, you should probably make a nandroid first, just in case.
^^ trying, will let you know.
EDIT: to no avail, and it seems like the power button went defunct.
You're kinda locked out...
Why did you turn off Data Sync?
If the data is on your SD Card just take it out and connect it to your PC

Now I'm gonna tell you people something which I couldn't possibly believe happening.
A tale of sheer serendipity, between the master and a slave. Hold on to your seats
I have titanium backup pro scheduled to do a full system and data backup at 3am, every Thursday.
And today is Thursday.
I did a full system wipe, then flashed wc's rom. After installing ti backup, I thought of restoring system data, or whatever was left of it. Something's better than nothing, right?
But what happened astounded me, as everything was in exact way I had configured it last morning. Heck, I even had the message I received at 2:13 in the morning.
But with all these things came that nagging Gmail password box, ( as it turned out in my favor, android has data on by default).
Which I was able to get through by inputting the requirements and Google verifying those.
Wow, plain wow. Ecstatic right now!
Lesson learned. Do share it with everyone, and please buy titanium guys a beer.

There is a small-ish bug in android, which enables data without showing the E or H sign (ultra rare, has happened just two times in the past 1 year) .
I'm just saying that storing the passwords, and other sensitive data offline just makes no sense at all.
Suppose if a tech person gets hold of someone's locked phone, and he manages to get adb enabled, it's only a matter of time before he will get hold of the passwords.
And then, another mat hanon will be born(@mat)

I've seen this happen over and over, actually it just happened to me again after going Happy Gilmore on some system edits. The typical reaction is to change kernel, restore a backup, etc. Here's a way that works without changing anything.
Wait 30 seconds after the message appears
Click close and then verify, by turning screen on and off, that the device is not frozen.
Open the battery door and take the battery out for 3 seconds
Replace the battery and cover
Hold volume down and press power, keeping the volume key pressed.
Select recovery using volume down, and press power.
Use volume down to scroll to Advanced
Press power to select.
Repeat selection process for wipe dalvik-cache, followed by fix permissions
Press back to return to the main menu, where reboot device should be selected.
Press power to reboot
Thank your Android device for complying.
This seems like a long process when written out, but this prevents the usual "how do I..." and "what order did you..."
All you did was check for kernel lock up, battery pull, reboot recovery, clear dalvik, fix permissions, and reboot.

Wish I knew this earlier! Had to chat with Samsung support, who suggested I buy only Samsung OEM products (including Samsung sd card)and call them back. Did -- which meant more money, factory reset, reinstalling my 211 apps, and after installing Amazon AppStore, the problem started again. After pulling the battery, it usually worked, but who needs that! Ended uninstalling Amazon AppStore. Doesn't do it anymore. Now, I just use Google Play, but your solution would've been MUCH easier! Gonna keep it in mind if I have more issues. Thanked you.

I'm wondering if it has to do with flashing zip file today (low storage notification zip file)
alright i fixed it on my phone. i did a full wipe. tell me if i need to explain how to do this. reflashed the ROM and gapps. when i went through the setup the first time there was an option to restore from google. it was checked by default. i left it checked. same problem... system process not responding... wiped and started over and reflashed ROM and gapps. unchecked restore google and it didnt come back. phone hasnt crashed since. the problem lies within the wifi passwords restore. the problem started when i was trying to start wifi. i dont know where to report the bug or i would. good luck and any questions? just quote this so i get an email and ill try to explain if this didnt make sense. hope it helped. if it did consider buying my buddy a beer who is a dev and needs a new computer. http://johntriger-development.yolasite.com/

Just to be clear, it is volume down. Unless you are holding the phone upside-down.
I know that this is an old thread, but the problem still appears, and perhaps the following will be a clue for people who care about this problem:
I have it on various versions of 6.x running on a virtualbox VM, where the host is Windows 10 and for the moment the host only has 4GB of RAM, so I only gave 1GB to the VM. The thing is: i can make the problem go away just by giving the VM 1500MB of RAM.
I believe that what this "solution" and the darling one of this thread have in common is that they are ways to deal with a machine which doesn't have (quite) enough RAM -- is that accurate?
One practical consequence is that if you do all the clean-up suggested earlier, and that works, but the problem comes back too soon, you might do better to install more memory or do something that will use less memory PERMANENTLY., not just until the cache fills up again.
I have 16GB on order, and once it's here, i will allocate 4GB to the VM. If you don't see any edit here, it's because I'm too busy having fun with my running "Process system" (sic) to post here .
hey, so maybe you can help. i turn my phone off today because it was dying, thought i save that last 10 for the 30 minutes before closing at work, just in case i need it. turn on, and boom. everything like new, had to assign google account, and then even though all apps were still there, they all force close, constantly, no matter what. what should i do? i made a back up, did a wipe and restored, but still the same. will i HAVE to re-install gc v2 (my rom) and just restore the crap individually with TB? =[=[=[ this is random and extremely aggravating. so:
*NO, I DID NOT RECENTLY DL AND APP OR MAKE ANY CHANGES*
*NO, THERE WAS NO UPDATE*
ive had this rom for a while now... wtf?
I had the same problem a week ago, you're gonna have to reflash. That's what I did, and of course, it worked. Idk why it does that. It is very frustrating. Since then I've told titanuium backup to do a backup once a week.

question for the "doc" lol, saw where everyone was talking about the "not working" apps in the dev thread, can we not go in and remove the apps ourselves? I just went in and removed TiBu with root explorer and re-installed the version i purchased then went in and removed all the apps that don't work or not gonna use, or was that not something I should have not did?

It's probably fine.
After you reinstalled TiBu were you able to update? I know there were a few people that were having issues with the TiBu not updating.
I once heard though, that it's better to freeze unwanted apps rather than uninstalling. Something to do with OTA updates looking for the bloatware in order to validate that your system is not hacked/rooted. Anyway, it's probably not a big deal, just ever since I read that I always just freeze rather than uninstall. Unless its an app I put on there and or I know that it's not something AT&T put on there. But myself, I would apply that same theory to any of the things included with the ROM, anything I don't want I'll freeze rather than uninstall.
Let us know if that worked for the updating of TiBu.

I installed the rom, and have used it for a little over a day now.. I love the theme, and its def snappy, but has a few problems me and a friend found. We've both put the rom on our Infuses.
For a few flashes, my home button wouldn't work, but I think that was narrowed to backing up system data.. it now works for me though. On the first flash try, all calls being made TO my phone just got a busy signal, but I could call out.. My friend's phone calls only works when calling out. When he receives a call, itll end the call about 5 seconds into it.
He cannot turn his phone on while its plugged into the charger.. it wont do anything when he holds the power button. I cannot get root explorer to work, no matter what. I've reinstalled it, fixed permissions, still nothing. I now use another app to access it. When ever I get a new email and notification, my phone will freeze and reboot. I've had quite a few random reboots today as well, with my friend having only a few. It even rebooted while in the middle of a phone call.
I've tried a few different kernels, but not sure if i know when it installs correctly other than the phone boots up... I know the voodo kernel hasnt worked at all... itll sit on the samsung screen for at least 30 mins a few different tries.

Sounds like you have a bad flash. I'd start over, make sure you do your proper wiping. And read over the Dev section there are a lot of additional steps spread throughout. I will try to compile them into one post when I get some free time. Good luck.

I've redownloaded the flash to my computer twice, recopied it to my phone twice, started with a complete fresh rom using odin that was already rooted and CWM installed, and wiped all data possible. I've followed all the steps, done reboots in between sometimes just to try something different.. I've reflashed my rom at least 6 times in the past two days maybe trying different things .
has anyone had bad battery drain with this? last night i charged 100% before went to bed, had JD running on aggressive mode, wifi anf BT disabled as well as setcpu no OC and profile for 400/100 when screen off.... got up this morning 6 hours and was at 38%, ive been running the rom for days now so i think its had time to bake but not sure what else to do? any suggestions.

so yesterday my unlocked T-Mobile HTC One S got bricked, before you ask i never touched the ROM of the device, it was pure stock HTC One S with a lot of apps.
basically it entered into a strange loop: first the T-Mobile greeting message appeared and then the HTC One S logo, over and over and over again. the only thing that i could do was to power button + volume down and do a factory reset.
This happened one day after i updated its firmware OTA, and in the same day that i downloaded a free app called AutomateIt.
i'm only upset about the fact that i lost the pictures and vids that i took in the 6 weeks owning it, but i am worried that if it did this once, it could do it again so i need to know if this is something common to Androids, my One S or something else.

Did you let the phone die? the phone don't like to do that. Get Dropbox or Google+ that will sync your pictures online.
The same happened with my stock htc one s 4.0.4 twice! I figured out that when you have more than 15-20 saved wlans, you have connected to in the past, in your wifi-list your phone ends up in a bootloop. I didn't manage to rescue any data even not with adb.. clearing the cache and so on. probably you used any automatic wifi functionality from automatelt.

now thats interesting, my phone is also 4.0.4, and yes i did have ~20 saved WLAN's, i can't figure how wlan would have any connection to a bootloop, but then again i dont know anything about programming.
so you always delete the wlans once you are done using them? after you found out did it brick again?

yes, I take care that I don't have more than 5-10 in my list. since that it didn't brick again. but a few days ago I had ~10 in my list and it suddenly restarted again while I was in the wifi list screen and I was like pleeeaassse no bootloop! but fortunately it was no bootloop but my whole wifi list was reset. it must be an error in htc's software.. so we can only wait for updates..
I've had this happen with other Android devices, it's generally some rogue app that screws up the device and only a factory reset will clear it. I've never had more than 3 or 4 wifi points saved so can't comment on that as a possible cause.
It's not 'bricked' by the way, just slightly fubar'd

The same happened with my stock htc one s 4.0.4 twice! I figured out that when you have more than 15-20 saved wlans, you have connected to in the past, in your wifi-list your phone ends up in a bootloop. I didn't manage to rescue any data even not with adb.. clearing the cache and so on. probably you used any automatic wifi functionality from automatelt.

You are not the only one. I also encountered the same thing because of too much wlan connections and the only thing i could do is run into bootloader and restore factory settings, since i don't have a nandroid backup because i'm not rooted.. fortunately i synced my pictures thru dropbox, and a backup of sms in gmail.. but i don't know why it is happening to us, so this issue isn't an individual case..

I dropped my s3 in some water and quickly grabbed it, and dried it off. Everything seemed to be working ok, but then i noticed that it's acting like i don't have my sd card in it when i do. My wifes card gets recognized right away when i put it in, so i think my sd card is no good. Any suggestions on how i can recover data from it?? Thanx

Hi,
New to the S3 and this rom. Root, flash went well, and so far, I'm loving this rom. One problem that is stumping me is this:
Using ADW launcher, have a direct dial short cut to voice mail. The voice mail contact is set up to dial *86 ,,xxxx, so with one tap, I can call vm and access messages.
However, the keyboard then becomes non responsive. I can't delete or save messages, and if I have multiple messages, can't get to the next one.
Any suggestions on how to work around this appreciated.
I'm running the 3.2 beta version of LS, and really only have this, and one other minor issue.
Thank you.
Still haven't solved this, but here's more clarification:
Phone is running LiquidSmooth 4.2.1m v2.1m beta 3.2
1. Using a 'direct dial shortcut. the rom dialer has a contact set up named voicemail, that is programmed: *86;,,XXXX. When I hit the direct dial shortcut, voicemail is dialed, xxxx is sent, and I can hear my first voicemail. The problem is the dialpad is non responsive. So, I can't save or delete the first voicemail, nor can I proceed to listen to the next one.
If I dial *86, and enter the password manually, then the dial pad works.
Even if I dial any contact withGoDialer, then, open keyboard to dial and extension, I get the stock dialer.
I drive a lot, and need as few distractions as possible. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Have u tried using a different launcher just to be sure its not hardware/ROM related it might be the launcher?

--------------If you like puzzle, tackle this---------------
I tried pretty much everything on the internet before posting here.
My stock/no root phone started bootlooping. So I used Odin and root66.tar to get it back. Everything seemed to be good. After I got 3 updates:1) 30mb, 2) 60mb and 3) JB updated OTA. After 60Mb update my phone said Samsung and shows unlocked lock. After JB update my phone bootloops again.
I though it it was a bad update and reflashed stock no root 4.0.4 and OTA did the same thing.
I tried the gs3 tool to flash the recovery and it always fails.
I would appreciate any help.... I have been dealing with this non sense for the past 24h.

Yes. I've been using ADW launcher, tried it with Nova, got the exact same result.
Alright, I'll try here. So, I'm on cleanrom 5.6. As far as I can tell everything is working, and there aren't any actual problems, but the phone doesn't know what the network is in settings and and when I drag down the notification bar it doesn't say it at the bottom. Anyone have an idea?

Yeah, my cell service connects and I can text and call. It just doesn't seem to have any idea that my carrier is verizon and it kinda seems odd.

I am trying to install the stock systemui.apk file on my phone after I screwed up and flashed the wrong one, but installation always fails. I have moved the .apk to the /system/app folder and have changed the permission of the .apk but the file still won't install. What can I do?
carrier
Since you carrier wont load I believe following this tutorial with help fix your problem but check the conditions. Im not allowed to post links apparently so I attached it. I'll also flash cleanrom 5.6 and find out if its a software thing and get back to you. But it seems to me like its a MEID issue. So check the conditions in the link and if they are true I'd go that way. If not re-flash, clean install would be my suggestion. Yeah I run Cynagenmod 10.1 and it even knows I'm on Verizon. And Scott's roms always have the carrier.

computer doesn't see the card at all..
I can't recall when I last had it working but my NFC completely stopped working. I have tried reverting back to absolute stock rooted nandroid. That didn't work so I Odin booted back to the original unrooted firmware. Still same problem. If I try to uncheck NFC from the more options it moves over and is immediately flipped back. I have gone into a Verizon wireless store to seek help but the guy made a sarcastic remark that his iPhone wouldn't have that problem...but I also as a few other notes I have tried hells ROM and also flashing the NFC file with the ROM which also didn't work and have tried the few NFC Google wallet fixes I have seen, also sadly no luck. I'm stubborn and don't want to give up if anyone knows if there is a possible fix, hope you can possibly help!

replacement?
I think you may have a faulty chip. Also is your battery NFC capable? But to be honest Verizon will replace it for free if your under the 1 year warranty and don't have water damage or anything like that. Because if it doesn't work on the stock rom it's most likely a hardware problem in this case. So I would contact your carrier about that.

I have the stock battery and when I did call Verizon the first time they wanted me to contact Samsung first then get back to them so I figured i'd bring it here. It had worked before so I was wondering if maybe it fried somehow? Phone has never been dropped, no water damage, watch because I said that i'll drop it in 5 minutes and shatter my screen I guess I'll just try Samsung tomorrow and see what they have to say.
nfc
Actually I just thought of something else to try. Have you gone in and force quit nfc and cleared the app data? That may resolve the problem. Nfc will be under all apps and it is named nfc service.

Good idea, just tried it and it didn't do anything. Also tried that, rebooted recovery, wiped dalvick and cache fixed permissions then tried again with no luck. =/
nfc
Are you using a non stock kernel? Also when you went back to stock did you erase everything on the phone?
