[Q] WiFi Power Issues - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Has anyone noticed poor WiFi reception on their GS3? Unless I am within a few feet of the router the signal drops to one or two bars. I've tried increasing the WiFi TX but it doesn't seem to help.

I have not noticed any issues here. Are you stock or running something custom? I am completely stock and get good reception.

Bad service

Wondering if someone could shed some light. I'm currently running coredroid and I'm having problems with my service. One second I have 3 bars and without leaving my living room ill be down to zero bars and then back to one or two and so on. It seems to really drop when WiFi is turned on.
I've installed the 26.06.04.14 radio and flashed the appropriate RIL.
My speed test are around 3.5 dl and 1.6 up with 3 bars of service.. when there are three bars of service.
Am I missing something ?? Is there anything I can do to have obtain more stable service ? I'm around 97db to 110db on signal strength.
Thanks in advance.

Those are better speeds then what I see and unless I go to a big city I usually don't see more then three bars..
I may try a different radio.
Are there specifc recommended ones for the U.S.? Do ROMs play a roll in fluctuating signal or would this be more directed towards the radio / RIL combination?
I've also noticed a huge decrease on WiFi signal. If I am in the same room as my router I have 1 - 2 bars tops. If I leave the room ill be at 0- 1 bars. Same with the cell signal strength. One second ill have 89db and the next 110db. - I read a portion on adding another APN. Thoughts on this? Think it'll help?
Thanks again...

Extremely Poor Wifi signal and Mobile data on Stock ROM. Should I return it ?

Hi All,
I got the samsung infuse by exchanging the HTC inspire which had a horrible battery life.
I love this phone and would like to keep it, but the very poor Data speeds and somewhat poor WIFI signal strength is bugging me.
Any suggestions ?

Are you guys on g or n networks?
My wifi is fair to good. For me, it certainly isn't an issue were I would take the phone back. My main issue was the constant lock ups and reboots from the stock browser. But since that update last week the phone has been running really well and no lock ups.

My wifi is average, at 30-40ft though 2-3 walls I get 2 bars but doing speedtest i get maximum download and upload. Maybe you should try wifi analyzer and see if you can connect to a better channel.

I'm getting an extra bar now it seems... although the difference is not major, but its improved. Got the UCKE3 update, after contacting AT&T to push it to my phone
My WiFi gets good signal strength throughout my house, 50+ feet I still have 3-4 bars; however, sitting within ten feet I still only get 1.5Mb down MAX. My h+ speeds are the same... It is terrible. My Captivate is much faster on the same network.
Any ideas?

[Q] Fix for weak WiFi signal?

I have only had this phone a couple weeks, used to have an EVO, I am noticing that this phone seems like it can't pick up a strong WiFi signal.
It is pretty pathetic, honestly. Any suggestions?

I have no help to offer, just wanted to say I am not having that problem. I'm using a SPH-D720.
Flash the ke1 radio

NO wifi problem here NS4G, just got 17.22Mbps down with 4.83mbps up. the signal may look weak but it still strong.
Here is a bit more info, missing from my previous post. I'm using the D720SPRKE1 baseband with stock Androis 2.3.7 on a (rooted) SPH-D720. Wifi is fine for me.

basically same here
signal is weak , but speed is fast as i using it on computer with full signal
problem is , when it connects it fast , but easily lost connection and sometimes very hard to reconnect ...

Agreed. Compared to my Epic 4G (running a Froyo ROM), the range of the WiFi and Bluetooth radios are shortened. What's interesting to me is now that my Epic 4G is running a GB ROM, the range of the WiFi and BT radios have been reduced there as well.
I'm wondering if this might be a Samsung GB driver issue?

well , i think it is WIFI hardware problem , low power and short range.

those are megabits per second, not megabyte, right?
8 bit are 1 byte, so for wifi your numbers are not really good per se. i'd rather say kudos to down-speed of your internet-connection, up is okay-ish...
wifi g has a theoretical max of 54 mbit, n-standard up to 150 mbit. I'm sure the limiting factor in your case is your internet connection though, not the wifi.
that said, the nexus s has a weak wifi-reception (as in how good the reception has to be until a network is found), but once you're connected it's somewhat stable.

It very well could be. I just think it's interesting that my Epic 4G now has the same range as my Nexus S 4G. When my Epic was running any Froyo ROM I could easily get a decent WiFi signal 50 feet from my house outside. Now that it's running a Gingerbread ROM (like my Nexus is), I have to almost be inside to connect to my router.
this is what i think if you say they have same range...
more power = more range = more speed
lower power --> same range as more power --> lower speed
I'm also having problems with this... very low wifi signal on the nexus inside my house, but 100% strength on my (old) nokia 5800 and on the macbook :/
I think this was a power saving decision, since the wifi radio is a battery drainer and this way we have better battery duration while on wifi, but i'm not sure..
(using the latest franco.kernel, but had the same issue with the stock kernel)

Anyone having 4g issues?

I'm in Boonton Nj and noticed over the past 2 days my phone getting stuck on 3g whereas I had several bars on 4g. I've refreshed my Carbon, liquid and Miui Roms but this signal change persists. I can't figure out how I can have consistent 4g signal one day and then barely have 3g the next. Any suggestions out there?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Could be the signal itself. Also in nj and have been getting 3g in places I usually get 4g this week. As long as you're not permanently in 3g I think we should just wait it out and see if it gets better.
You could always flash a new radio to see if that improves anything

It's seems to be just in my house but I've noticed very poor signal throughout most of Morris Essex and Passaic counties, but just over the past 2 days.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Yeah I've noticed it in Sussex and Essex somewhat.
Essex -80 to -90 dbm
Sussex -108 dbm
Go to this thread to find flashable radios and modems. Switching radio may/May not improve signal. Usually I find no difference but that's just me

Reduced reception while holding device in hand

I was in a low service area and i noticed a difference between my reception and my friends. They all had one or two bars and I would have none. Then i placed my phone in the cupholder of my seat and in saw some bars of service popup. So I check it out and as soon as i did, no service. It became obvious that if i held my phone in my hand, my reception is affected.
Anyone confirm?

This is normal for all cellphones. Your body will interfere with radio signals.

could be a software bug.. CM11S (stock rom) has more bugs than my neighbors backyard but...I have bad signal too but could be my ****ty signal at home. Has your GPS not been working too ? mine cant lock on to any location when im out of my house, but in wifi it works perfect.

I don't use GPS religiously, but seems to lock on when I need it, regardless the ROM. I did try other ROMs out to see what might happen, but didn't help. I tried gummy, mahdi and slim. I'm sure its the fact the Antenna is built into the rear cover.
I've ordered my case from diztronic, so I will test with a case too.
Thanks for the replies.

People complaining about it from all over the world. Look for more on the official forum. Very poor signal reception on OPO. The signal strength is not quite as good as other phones in the same area. And signal strength goes up and down all the time and it does not matter hold you the phone in hands or it lies on the table. Data connection is inconsistent and often drops even though the phone shows that there is connection.

I'm hoping a case will help me. I noticed some difference with the phone not in hand... I also experienced the data issue... Thanks for info, I don't spend much time at oneplus forums.
