Hello everyone, I'm new here in XDA community, but been guest for almost a year now. I would like to post my concern in behalf of people using Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000. I really have problem with when I connect the usb to my pc, it shows on my phone to turn on mass storage, so I did. Now when I turned on, the usb mass storage exits itself and the pc says the USB DEVICE IS NOT RECOGNIZED. I really have tried almost everything, I tried downloading drivers, uninstall and install again the usb device and it won't just work. I really don't know what to do now, I'm using [JB] Helly Bean - GT-i9000 as rom and CWM. I have tried this in a different pc, no luck at all. This happened when I installed PARANOIDANDROID rom and GAPPS and transferred it on my phone, it just freezes and before you know it, usb connection is gone. I really need your help, I've been reading lots and lots of solutions, I want to hear from you what can I do to restore my mass storage connectivity. Any solution you can share, maybe it might work Thank you all.

It can due to a bad USB connection, wrong storage connection options on the device, and so on. Which PARANOIDANDROID version are you using? The 4.1 version is probably having issues on this case. If nothing solves the problem, enable usb debugging, and install QtAdb to access your storage through the ADB bridge.
Hello
I'm having the same issues, what I need to point out is that my i9000 does not even fire up my windows USB dirvers anymore:
For example when I had my phone connected to the pc and it was booting, it would occasionally hear the "found new hardware" chyme but now that does not happen.
The phone still charges but there is no data transfer, I've tried 3 PCs and 3 different USB cables
any ideas ?
Same problem here. tried with different ROMs and multiple PCs. is it a hardware issue or driver related ?
No this is not a driver issue, I even flashed back the stock firmware the phone came with, I think something physically went wrong in the USB module because I cannot find a software fix for this.
another easy question to ask.........jb rom using mtd as third party to transfering data, juz switch back to usb debugging mode in dev sec in setting, if it still doesnt help, check ur custom kernel setting, devillish kernel usually stick to mtd, go to recovery and change it to usb debug in usb connection setting. as semaphore, do not crash da kernel setting with phone setting, choose one, if mackay, thats usb debug default so no prob. as for da one who revert back to gb but still facing same prob, check da usb debug box in dev section in setting, change da port coz ur confusing da windows system with same device but different system!

forgot to mention, mtd device in xp doesnt exist, so try to find it urself as i forgot how i solve it, it takes a week for me to find mtd driver for my dear xp's, as for original user of windows, juz update da driver using windows update. as for those who underground~ing, mtd driver can be found on sgs3 driver.
Hi guys
I've managed to fix it by flashing 2.3.6 JVU from samfirmware the european version hope you guys can fix it as well
Cheers

I have a Samsung Fascinate and my phone won't connect to my computer! A few days ago, I was on rooted stock and I noticed it wouldn't connect to my PC. I did a data wipe and installed MIUI and noticed the problem was still going on. I thought it was no big deal but now it is VERY annoying! I've tried it on my Windows 7 computers and one XP computer and none of them work! They all say that it can't be recognized. I have accidental insurance on it and the person at BestBuy mobile said I can root it without voiding it. I don't know if installing a ROM (MIUI) voids it or not. I'm trying to do an Odin restore and when I put it in download mode, Windows still says that it can't recognize it. I want it on stock before calling them about it. I'm thinking this is a hardware issue. Anyway to get it off of MIUI and back to stock without a PC?! :'(
have you tried going to settings/development and un checking USB Debugging? worked for me after update.
Yes, make sure USB Debugging is not selected, as this will prevent your device from entering storage mode and be picked up by your Computer.
Also, make sure that you're using the original USB data cable that came with your phone. Other cables might allow charging, but won't work for data.
or...
if still doesnt work, try a factory reset (sorry)
I am using the original cable. And USB Debugging is unchecked. It also won't detect my phone in download mode...? Could it maybe be the USB?

Did you download the ADB usb drivers? Also, be very careful downloading the Samsung Drivers and updating Win 7. They broke two of my computers.
USB Problem! Help > answer
ok..i was having same problem..
bt i do check on setings>application>development> USB DEBUGGING
and it;x doneitx working nw
I don't know if this is a problem with my USB cable, or my phone, or maybe even my Powermac G5. Lately, the USB transfer hasn't been working on any ICS rom on my Mac. It works fine on the PC, but on the Mac I have to use USB storage in Clockwork Recovery.
Today, for the first time, I tried it even in CWM and the Mac told me it was opening it with limited use, and that I should back it up as soon as I can and reformat/repartition/basically fix it. I've never had that happen before.

Sounds like you might need drivers for Mac...?

Seems to say that changing the USB port might help.
Hello
I have owned this HTC Desire S for more than two years now and it is time to retire it to some else in the family and get a new phone.
The problem is I'm running Cyanogenmod on it and the camera will probably not be good enough for the girl that I will give it to.
I want to remove this version of Cyanogenmod but the problem is that the USB port does not allow my computer to detect the phone when I try and flash roms and the like. I need to be able to do this since I have an unclocked bootloader but S-On (Or the other way, point is I need a PC to flash) The weird this is that although I am unable to switch to mass storage on a PC I can access the mass storage function on a TV using the same USB cable. I have been able to play all sorts of files but my computer just cannot read anything.
Does anyone have a clue what the problem could be?
Thanks for any of the replies and help I will get.
What operating system is on your pc?
Have you tried different USB ports on the PC?
it may be ur custom rom fault to for eg . i encountered sam problem with pacman rom later i flashed SVHD Rom and problem solved
try OEM cable!
had o problem with samsung phones!
try to use an new original cable or old but make sure is not broken!
Hi,
I have a problem with my Samsung Galaxy S6 - SM-G920F, it isn't recognized anymore by my PC. This happened after I made a ".nomedia" file to hide some gallery files. I deleted the file but the phone isn't recognized by any PC. When i connect the phone, it is only charging.
I installed TWRP for using the mount feature - not worked.
I installed the latest USB drivers from Samsung - not worked.
I installed Samsung Kies3 - not worked.
I installed Smart Switch - not worked.
I dialed *#0808#, turned MTP - ADB - not worked.
I installed through Odin a stock 6.0.1 Rom from SamMobile - not worked.
I turned on/off the USB debugging - not worked.
I used more than 3 USB cables - not worked.
Device Manager isn't recognizing my phone.
McBook Air isn't recognizing my phone.
The phone is not rooted and it has 4 moths since i bought this phone.
Is there something that I missed on my attempt to solve this problem?
Thank you for your time.
Same problem here, really can't figure this one out.. Tried all of the above too

Curious, in device manager under bluetooth it lists my Samsung s6 edge with a generic driver from Microsoft and I can't change it... Misidentified device? Do you have the same?
I assume your phone is unlocked/opened from lock screen when you are connecting it to your pc? ^^
- Renolz
Fully unlocked, & just no notifications :/

My phone isn't seen anywhere... not even in Device Manager
+#0808# is code for usb, you can try dial it (after last # it will run or not, depending on rom), or you can download Shorcut master from Playstore and try run it from secret codes inside app.
It has option to run it from dialer, or with SU if you are rooted, if you manage to run it, set AP and MTP+ADB to see phone as disk in windows, this helped me, hope it will help you.
It is the USB cable I had the same problem and changed the cable twice
Is it fast charging? Mine won't connect on any PC and also won't fast charge. I guess it's a damaged usb port..............

Same problem here, started after updating to Marshmallow.
Exactly same problem with my s6 after 6.0.1 update! Sometimes phone will charge but it wont connect to pc/otg wont work but when i play around with MTP+ADB in *#0808#, s6 wont charge but instead it will be recognised by pc that usb connected not recognised and otg will work!!!!! always vice versa. right now my battery is empty and still wont charge!
---------- Post added at 08:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:11 AM ----------
And looks like there is always a volt output through usb port and that time phone wont receive any charge
Really problematic.. I tried everything cables, drivers, different PC's and nothing.. tried my girlfriends S6 and worked instantly on my PC.
Only happened after official Marshmallow update, grounds for a return?

1. Power off your device (if it isnt already).
2. Connect to pc in recovery / download mode (just to trigger a response from pc /phone hopefully.
Do you know how to do this? If so, go ahead and proceed and see if the pc recognises your device in those modes
Let me know how that goes

Its not a usb port problem
Here are the usb drivers for those having issues. http://developer.samsung.com/technical-doc/view.do?v=T000000117
-Uninstall any previous driver relating to the phone (Also delete package if given the option). Disable windows Update aswell (Win10 Users). Also try install PDA+ from app store and http://pdanet.co/ to see if drivers will be correctly used.
-Make sure its a data cable, not a charge cable as only + and Negative wires are used and there is no way you can use a charge cable as a data cable.
-Connect phone and look for any pop up on screen, if anything pop up click it and see if it has anything to do with MTP or PTP.
-Still having trouble, reset firmware back to stock see how that goes, If not try boot into recovery and follow next step.
-- Once in recovery see if you can ADB push a rom over or a file, if that works then firmware is dodgy and something is missing. (Would recommend Android Tool kit to use this).
-- You could also try to install ADB insecure app ( Find it on XDA forums) and enable USB debugging and see if that will help
If you still can access file via usb when the phone is booted i would say to flash back to stock rom with ODIN and send it in for repairs. (Thats if you can get download USB mode to work)
Visited Samsung store, they said the USB port has failed but KNOX has been tripped some how, genuinely never rooted this phone or even attempted it but they showed me the warranty void status so basically even though they accept it's a hardware fault they won't fix it.

Quick answer for how I fixed this (sort of):
Go to "Settings" > "Developer Options" > "USB configuration". My phone indicated "charging". I selected MTP and my phone connected.
Why "sort of" - it reverts to "charging" every time that I connect the phone. I have to do the above all over again.
full history:
Same problem here. S6 on verizon network new in September 2015. Always connected without a problem to whatever computer that I have tried (linux & windows). The problem started after the recent complete software update on 2016-04-02. The phone is defaulting to "charging" and not trying to connect.
Go to "Settings" > "Developer Options" > "USB configuration". If "charging" is active, you know what your problem is. Select MTP (or whatever you need). The phone now connects and I can browse my files from my computer. The remaining problem, is that it reverts to "charging" every time that I connect the phone. Before the code update, there used to be a dialog asking me what I wanted to do (charge, data transfer, etc - sorry, don't remember exact options or how it was worded).
So, nothing to do with drivers missing on my PC. Nothing to do with need to install some other package. Nothing to do with a bad cable. Code was broken on a software update. (Or if you don't consider this to be broken, it was a poor software design decision).
!!! A CODE FIX IS NEEDED !!!
Hi guys, i'm getting this problem and cant connect to pc and i think i've tried it all.
when i connect my phone to the PC, it stars charging but my pc doesn't recognize the device, and my phone doesn't show the notification to make it file transfer.
Could it be a computer issue?
it seems not, i've uninstalled and installed drivers (ADB and Fastboot, oneplus drivers, google drivers) and the problem persist, and even try it on another computer and its the same, the phone does not appear even on Device Manager.
Could it be the Cable?
I don't think so, i'm using the original oneplus cable, it use to work really well before, and i have even connect other phone with the same cable and the other phone is recognize by the computer, so it''s not a cable issue... but I still when to a Tech-store and try other USB-C cables with their computer but my issue still persist (phone isn't recognize, just charge).
Could it be a phone software issue?
Maybe? but i discover this issue 3 weeks ago and a i was on EVOX rom and i thought it would be solved flashing another rom, and i CLEAN FLASH Resurrection Remix Rom, but then the problem was still there!
cant connect even on FASTBOOT MODE...
BTW, before installing RR, i Installed OOS 10.3.4, and still my computer doesnt recognize the phone, YES i have enabled developer options and USB debugging is enabled, and USB PREFERENCES to File transfer, but its not helping me, the "usb for" option its all grayed out and cant change that.
Right now i'm stuck on a RR build without Gapps, and i lost ROOT and RECOVERY, and as you may think, i cant install any of them because i cant connect to my pc, so i'm in a pretty difficult situation here hehe, could you please help me out?
This helped me. Hope it works for you too

PROBLEM SOLVED.
I think this is the silliest solution I've ever seen, it was just DUST, i clean my USB-C PORT (with a mask xD) and then pluggin, AND VOILA, it worked!!! so keep your ports clean everyone
