[Q] 2.20 or 2.23, Aroma and Sense 4.1 - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Looking for some expert answers and opinions.
2.20 Stock Rooted or 2.23 Custom Rom? Im currently running 1.85 Stock root Deodex and have no need for mods at this time. Looking for Daily Driver Reliability and no Themes or dual Process scripts.
What is Aroma Installer?
Is the current port of Sense 4.1 stable?
Please keep the replies on Topic. I am at an impass now with the upgrade RUU Screen bugging me every 20 minutes.

I'm on CleanROM 4.5 and can personally vouch for its stability and all around badassery. It's a 2.23 ROM, super stable, super smooth, definitely a daily driver without question. I think the vast majority of us here run CleanROM and for good reason.
Aroma Installer is just a neat interface for installing various mods and tweaks to your ROM through recovery. It's pretty nifty.

Are you running it in the US? I'm curious about the modem reliability and battery life as well. I guess I will go check out the ROM thread. Never really liked custom ROMs on my Sensation due to all the little hiccups with ICS. But since these are technically stock RUU's I guess ill go out on a limb. Nandroid and hold my breath.

Yeah I'm in the US. CleanROM has been rock solid for me since the very beginning and the latest one is no different. It is very close to stock, no themes or anything unnecessary like that. Just a couple useful mods (EQS) and some behind the scenes tweaks that makes it far superior to the stock experience. I have not had a single random reboot, my battery life rocks, and data speeds are as fast as ever with the latest radio. There's nary a hiccup with CleanROM. I'd put it on my grandmother's phone if she had a One X.

You will get as many opinions as there are Roms. If you have not already done so, I recommend getting Rom Manager from the Market and creating a backup copy of your rooted, but basically stock phone. From there I have had improved battery life and respectable radio performance using BAMF GingerStripped v2.1 & the latest leaked radio (1.46.00.0704w_2, 0.01.76.0703_2r).
You will find that radio performance is sometimes hit or miss when using the Gingerbread Roms. With that being said, improvements are made on an almost daily basis. I have no complaints with the stability or performance of my phone under the Rom/Radio configuration described above though.
All the links to Chingy51o ROM's will be down in the Tbolt forums. Go to themikmik.com to download. I wouldn't suggest TPS 1.5 though. It's old, based on a froyo leak that no kernels were ever developed for, and there's sereveral that are faster and more developed. Do you want feature-rich and solid as the Rock of Gibraltar, or, do you want a ROM that runs like a raped ape on fire? If you want feature rich and solidly developed, go to TeamBAMF.net and try one of theirs. If you like speed and all the junk pulled out, try themikmik.com and check out Chingy's ROM's. If you're feeling senseless, OMFGB is probably the best AOSP ROM out there. And then there's always CM7, which is starting to look like a finished product. I like Gingeritus3D V1.0 BetaV. V and VI are as fast as any gingerbread ROM I've ever used, if not faster, even with all the extra graphic load and Sense features. And it's reliable.
If batter life is what you crave, Froyo is probably the way to go. In that event, would definitely suggest BAMF. They seem to have the most developed Froyo builds with the best kernels. And they're great guys over there to who are always happy to help.
That question is about as tough as us telling you what's the best car to drive for you.
Not for us...but for you...
As said, best thing you can possibly do is make a backup of stock via clockwork recovery mode.
Do NOT use ROM or Kernal manager to flash Roms or kernals. Use Clockwork.
There are a TON of good ROMs out there...lately, there has been a little bit of an exodus of talented developers...politics are politics. It's too bad.
My advice is any time you go from one ROM to another, wipe data, cache and dalvik.
DroidTh3ory makes a great ROM (running it now)
BAMF makes a great one (Have run them a lot in the past) google search...they are no longer on XDA
Virus (Synergy, airborne) makes a great ROM
Chingy (Gingeritis, liquid ginger, perfect storm) makes a great ROM. Google him as well, no longer here.
Pretty much any of the Developers make two flavors of their ROMs, with Sense and without. 100% personal preference. If you like the eye candy...stay with Sense. Trade off is a little speed an performance and battery life (you may not even notice) vs. a non-sense based ROM.
Without a doubt, the most popular AOSP (Android Open Source Project) ROM is CM7.
Personally...I like sense. I've tried 2 or 3 non-sense based ROMs...I like candy, what can I say?
Tesla Coil
ROM Suggestion
I tried Perfect Storm v1.5 as well as my first ROM and it was good however I have now moved on to Eaton ROM v1.5.3 and it is flawless!
I've tried a few different ROMs, to include Das BAMF (RC4.9), Ging3r3dTh3ory, Liquid Thunderbread v1.4, as well as Gingeritis v1.2 and Gingeritis 3d v1.0 Beta VI.
I really liked the eye candy that Das BAMF had in his ROMs. It seemed pretty stable, too, but I haven't been able to find a Sense ROM that beats Gingeritis. Either "Gingeritis v1.2 non-3D" or "Gingeritis 3D v1.0 Beta VI", have both been very reliable, and the 3D version is very snappy considering it's 3D and Beta.
I have not tried any other roms other than Th3ory roms and they are awesome , great battery life.
I have been running the ROMs released by Th3ory. I started out with the Sense 3.0 ROM, then moved to a 2.1/3.0 Hybrid. Now I am running his latest CM7/AOSP mashup. It is rock solid for the most part. While I do miss some of the Sense UI elements, the sheer speed and performance, not to mention battery life, with the AOSP ROM is phenomenal.
Also, I do recommend the use of the 627 radio as well with this ROM.
I've tried every rom out there (up until about a week ago or so), and Th3ory Roms are easily the best for me. I value Performance first, Stability second, and debloating third. Every Rom that DroidTh3ory has put out has out performed all other roms for my needs. His latest offering, Pur3A05P, is amazing. I've never had an android experience so smooth, snappy, and stable. Not to mention fully AOSP, so fully debloated.
Also, you should see about flashing the latest radio. It's available at themikmik.com, labeled something like (2.xxx.xxx.xx). A reminder: A radio image is flashed by placing the file, named exactly 'PG05IMG.zip', on the root of your SD card, rebooting into hboot (vol- while booting), and accepting the upgrade. Also, make sure you delete or rename the radio off of your sd card once your done!

Feedback Needed From The Thunderbolt Community

If you recently purchased a Thunderbolt ....
You may be in the same boat as me, looking at rooting. Everyone is talking about gingerbread coming to our phones. I haven't seen an OTA as of yet, but it has leaked. located here->
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1225752
Now,
I know that you can root very easy here->

and I would play close attention to this video as it provides detailed instructions ->
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UK_CiB2SYk
**WAIT**
Before you dive in, here comes my question.
If you have done your research, there are alot and I mean ALOT of roms to flash for the thunderbolt.
I would like some feedback as to what rom you have flashed.
This will help anyone new to the thunderbolt party as well as myself.
I have yet to make a decision on rooting or waiting.
Your feedback below please.
Thank you all in advance
And as ALWAYS,
Thank you to all the developers who are working there butts off !
I tried out team bamf first, but then they jumped ship to their own forum. So then droidtheory started releasing roms and jumped to him and haven't looked back.
He has a sense and aosp (cm7) version and also dhacker and xpack have released their own versions based off of droidtheory's work.
xpack's senseless rom is very nice. Has the sense base so gps and nfl network work right out of the gate, but no sense (adw launcher instead) so its fast and smooth.

You can't go wrong with DroidTh3orys ROMS.
Root. Now. That way you can make your choice when/if GB actually comes. You can always go back to stock unrooted. You may not be able to root with the new OTA.
Roms? Like many things they are a personal choice that no one can make for you. Having flashed them all, I can tell you they have improved dramatically since I got my bolt in May. If you choose to root, do yourself a favor and try several. You will find the Rom that suits your taste and needs.

100% agree with this guy.
Us leaving XDA doesn't change anything about the quality of our roms. Fact is, many of our innovations end up in other roms anyway (ask ihtfp69 and erishasnobattery).
You can find us at teambamf.net, or rootzwiki.com.
There are many roms to choose from out there. Try them all, then decide.
Thank you all for your feedback. I made sure to click the Thank You buttons on all of your comments.

Multiple reasons, first and foremost my phone behaved the best with ShiftAO5P. I had a very smooth running phone and an amazing battery life with all the bells and whistles turned on. I went from 4 am in the morning to almost 6 in the evening without a charge. I am a moderate to heavy user, my battery does not last that long EVER.
2nd, choices with the rom was amazing multiple governers, mulitple kernels you can try them all till you find the best combo.

My recs are
Sense: DroidTh3orys Sense Rome
AOSP: CM7 or Omfgb for those who like tweaks. TheRom for those who want a vanilla experience.

I've been running dasBamf Roms for a month now and love them. I am currently on UberBamf PR3. every Tbolt is different, so experiment and see what works best for YOU. After you install each ROM, make a back up of it. That way, if you install one, that you don't like, you can revert.
I like a fast, customizable ROM without all the Sense bloat so I use Liquid Thundersense. I've only had this phone for 5 days so I really have no other Thunderbolt ROM to compare it to (I ran Gingeritis for a couple hours and the stock ROM only long enough to download Gingeritis to the device; I just hate Sense lol). As far as it goes though I've owned five Android devices total and have rooted and ran custom ROMs on all of them. Only way to go IMHO.

New to rooted inspire

Hey all,
This is my first rooted HTC phone (owned two others that weren't rooted) and had some general questions for all those who are rooted.
There seems to be a good number of roms out there and I'm not sure what a lot of the features each rom does, so the question I have is, what rom doesn't really overclock the phone and gives a nice stock functionality that is stable? I'm currently running the synergy rom but kinda looking to go elsewhere. I do apologize if this is a repost, again a new guy here to both the xda forums and rooted phones. Thanks for any help!
Its all about what you want outta ur rom, just gotta do ur research. I'm currently running CM7, and I must say Its stable.
I've been reading and reading and seems I just can't make sense of a lot of what each rom does..I honestly just want a pretty stock rom without all the bloatware that doesn't overclock the processor too much..thanks though for the quick reply!
You say CM7 eh? What do you like most about it?
I tend to shamelessly plug my own rom, so you could check it out.

To be honest i really like the CoreDroid Rom. It is gonna be based on your preference though. I went through about four roms before I decided CD was the one.
If you wanna keep it stock (Im assuming you want Sense) then I would go with Android Revolution HD ROM. It has Sense 3.0 which has some beautiful widgets and pretty effects, runs incredibly SMOOTH and is VERY VERY stable and fast. You can overclock with it but if you prefer keeping it at stock speed you can do that also. Bloatware is also removed and there a bunch of performance tweaks under the hood also.
Go with 5.2.6 which can be found on their website. 6.1.0 was just released but its still a little buggy so I would wait a month or so and see if Mike comes out with an update to fix the issues people are having. I use 5.2.6 and its, hands down, the best ROM I've used.
I would definitely recommend the same Revolution ROM that Matt has recommended.
....Matt, did you ever try running a benchmark test on Revolution HD 6.1? I seem to be getting a 1500 benchmark score, but with version 5.2.6, i was getting 2000.... Seems kind of odd to me that it would regress in performance. When I overclocked 6.1 to 1.2ghz, i still only got 1800 but the phone was noticeably snappier.
I am absolutely loving the new Revolution HD 6.1.0, It has changed my Inspire into a gorgeous model of phone epicness.
I'm pretty much a noob too and wanted the same stock feel like you. I'm using ClearDroid with no issues. and with the newst 1.2.2 version my GPS seems to be working better than ever. good luck
I have literally tried every Rom that you could use for Inspire. If you want stock I would recommend either cleardroid, pirateghost, or Inspirephacopida. They are all based on stock look and perform about the same as stock if not better. If you want sense 3.0 features then I agree Android revolution is the most stable. If you like themes and eye candy then coredroid would be the one. Again its really preference. Just try some out, you will know pretty quick what your willing to sacrifice and what you don't. I do recommend giving an aosp Rom a go just to see whether or not you like it. I would probably use an aosp Rom if it had the sense camera functionality.

I to am new to root but I am also new to Android. I thought I wanted a stock ROM also until I got ahold of MIUI ROM. It has a ton of themes and you can download widgets from the market. So like others have said play around until you find what you like!

I've used cleardroid, RCmix and currently using Coredroid..and loving it. very smooth and stable thus far. As for the Android Revolution it was next on my list to try out, but I guess I'll wait a month or two til an update comes out since CD is doing everything I really wanted out of a rom right now. Sooooo happy I pulled the trigger and rooted my phone...thanks guys for the input!!

[Q] Best ROM for me?

After successfully rooting my Sensation (thanks to Malybru) I'm looking for a rom that I will not need to tinker with for a while.
There's a ton of roms on the dev subforum, I've been reading through hundreds of pages and I give up.. lol...
The rom I need has to:
- Be stable. No bugs
- Have everything working (ICS on my G2x still has SD issues and camcorder does not work)
- Be fast, light with good battery life
- Be as close to stock ICS as possible. I like some of the custom graphics people are throwing in, but I want a clean look.
Thanks for your time in advance. Please don't flame and tell me to do more reading. If you feel too important to give me a piece of advice, just close the thread and move on.

Thanks. I was looking at the ARHD. It says I need firmware 3.32.401.x. How do I know what firmware version I have?
im not sure how to check but im sure there is a way.
but just flash it anyways.
most of the roms need it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
Download the newest firmware from there that suites you and flash it from the bootloader.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849
Flash Android Revolution HD with the setup you want in 4EXT.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470497
Download V41 and go through Aroma picking exactly what you want, requires 4EXT recovery.
This is the best option because you get the reliability of ARHD but can customize what you need to get to stock ICS.
Thanks guys. I'm running ARHD now. Seems pretty much perfect so far.

Battery life is also good with this rom
I haven't settled between what seem to be the two most popular: ARHD and Virtuous. I switch between them every other day or so. I am leaning towards ARHD for the excellent support though. Virtuous looks cleaner I think since they don't use Sense, but ARHD is constantly updated with bug fixes and has great mods already baked in (6.6.2 just added the HQ Camera mod!).
Can't really go wrong with either one. I haven't given InsertCoin, OpenSensation, or Cyanogen9 a try yet. There are so many ROMs....

I personally am running insertcoin. It was the first room I tried the day that permanent root was achieved. Sooooo far sooooo good.
Baad puts allot off work into his ROM. He doesn't take requests, but if nearly stock is what you are looking for, this is it. with only tasteful eyecandy and optimized for speed and accessibility really separating it from the near stock experience, I run stable and for sometimes nearly 2 days with minimal use. No wifi.

also interested. i havent flashed roms in a while but i like soem of the touchwiz features.
CM10 wont have motion control support, right?
No, CM10 does not have Motion Control support right now, though the Alpha build for CM10 works well, I wasn't pleased with the battery life. So, I'm about to ty CleanROM. Synergy wasn't for me, but it is a solid ROM. For 4.1 and Motion support, best bet is to wait for Samsung to release 4.1 for the GSIII, eventually somebody will root it, and that should include motion support.
I prefer Synergy, its always been great for me, and i get amazing battery life with it. I haven't tried beans so i can't comment on his, but it really boils down to personal preference. Some will say synergy and some will say beans.
Does synergy have any big bugs that someone would not flash because of it? And how is the data reception, i haven't been getting that good of reception even with stock.

The latest nightly appears to have everything worked out and data reception for me has been great.
Personally, I use SynergyROM (currently nightly R50).
I have yet to encounter any significant bugs. The Samsung Motion controls seem a bit off, but I'm not sure if that's how stock is or if it's just the ROM.
As for your questions about reception, SynergyROM has increased WiFi and Data transmit power. It supposedly means faster speeds, which I assume is achieved through a stronger connection?
Running Scott's CleanRom and it runs great. I see new version 2.0 is out now.
Cleanrom IS the only ROM I haven't tried as it wasn't out yet, but of all the others I kept returning to root66 as everything Single thing works perfectly, it is the fastest set-up I have ever used on ANY phone and battery life is as good as any other ROM (regardless of some of the ludicrous claims posters make for battery life)
Bean 8 with imosyeons LeanKernel 2.2 > Root66>Synergy 1.7...have not tried clean rom.
I've seen no bugs so far in the latest Synergy nightly (r50). Synergy has been my daily driver for a while now and is very stable with excellent support from the developer. Highly recommend.
CleanROM 2.0 just came out today and from the description sounds great. However, several of the bloatware apps appeared after installation (VZ Navigator, Color, etc) even though I de-selected them in the installer. I'm trying to get my post count to 10 so I can let the dev know in his own thread.

All of the above, in each context. F2 and G1 are two different builds (official ones from Samsung), which each have their own kernel, system base, and radios. You wouldn't mix and match kernels with system bases, but radios are interchangeable. I recommend the latest G1 radio, for the record.
Most TW ROMs get built off the latest base (and get ported over to new bases when they are released), because they tend to add bug fixes. You should know which build your ROM is based off, because in some cases third-party kernels can be compatible with one base and not another. Read carefully.
