Now at microcenter - Asus Transformer TF700

Saw $600 model today on display at local store in NJ.
Looked slick enough, but battery of course was dead so I could not see the screen in all its glory.
Nor sure about the lesser $500 model. Plenty of docks. Bottom line is if you are dying to see one in person, head out to microcenter.
Personally I am still on the fence, that ole tf101 still chugging along.

Microcenter has been really great with tablet support lately. They've been stocking more than just the mainstream stuff. I've seen the Acer a700 in stock in store, they have had Excite 7.7's in stock, and now it sounds like they intend to sell the TF700. Best Buy better watch out.
Oh and for those who are searching the Microcenter website to see if various products are in stock. Microcenter has a bad habit of not updating the website, when they do in fact have stuff in store. So if something isn't on the website don't assume they don't have it. Better to actually call your local store.
I only wish they had a better return policy. 14 days isn't very good.
Wonder why they would decide to have the $600 version and not the $500 version which would seem more likely to sell.
Edit: Holy Crap - I just checked and my local store has 10+ in stock! Not only that. They have 10+ of BOTH the 32GB and the 64GB model. What the hell is wrong with Best Buy!
Looks like I may on my way down there tomorrow morning.

What the heck..price increase!

Just went to Sears and Officedepot...was going to run out and get one today and the price at both places went up to $399 !!
Whats up with that !
David
That has been pretty much the regular price since day 1. Now that the holidays are winding down, they are going back to their regular price.
Same here, I looked online all day yesterday and was finding them for 369.99 at Office Depot and 379.99 at Sears. Well Office Depot is right around the corner from me so I just went there and the price was back at 399.99. I had checked online earlier but did not check the price as all I was looking for was the phone number. Turns out they only had one in stock and the closest Sears did not have any, the only other closest place to have one was 3.5 hours away. I really did not mind paying the extra $20.00 as I really like this tablet. Right now I am downloading the 3389 update and hoping it improves performance a bit, although it is performing nicely compared to my slow ass g1.
Dang. Oh well I'll still get it. I forget, does this come with a microsd card? I am going up to Sears now.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Does not come with microsd. Just saw that fry's has 16gb for sale for $18 after rebate. I pulled my microsd from my phone when I first got my gtab.
Now that it works, people will pay $399. Let's see what the market will pay for a working Gtablet. Compared to Ipad or Galaxy Tab, it's still a bargain.
just saw that too, crap nuggets.... hunting down opened or returned tablet for a while now...

Well, not to be a fly in your kool aid, but technically we shouldn't really consider it a 'working Gtablet' just yet. It is a bargain FOR US compared to the iPad and the Galaxy Tab, but for non-tech folk, not so much I'd think.
TnT 3389 is nice and is indeed more usable than the previous OTA'd software but we here have still had to do considerably more in terms of getting it to a point of being comfortable with it. And even now, we're having these issues here and there (slowdown, etc). I know nothing is perfect in terms of tech.
What do you think would result from this scenario in a case where the buyer is a typical 'casual' user who just wants a device to load up apps on, read web pages, watch some video and listen to music and read their e-books on?
I think the casual user would get the Gtablet...not be able to use the market on it, not be interested in XDA or learning how to flash etc. Experience the slowdown eventually (it's bound to happen) and then return the tablet out of frustration.
The iPad imho is not worth the price in terms of it's guts, BUT in terms of the fact that it works out of the box, you have access to thousands of apps, web and media - if I were buying a tablet for my wife for example, I'd go with the wifi iPad. When the case is that you don't have to flash the device for any reason? THEN it will be a working Gtablet.
The Galaxy Tab is the middle ground....but it's also expensive for what you get and has performance issues.
I am not all debbie downer though, as I have very high hopes for TnT with an Android Honeycomb base next year, when Google Market is included at stock.
I just picked up my g tablet today from Sears. I walked in and saw the price on the dummy demo listed at 399. I asked a sales clerk about the price. He walked over to a glass case where they had a half dozen stacked up. The price on the front of the case said 379. I told him I'd take one and when he rang it up it came up as 399. He did an override and I got it for the lower price.
So far I'm pleased. I plan on rooting and flashing a different rom instead of hacking around with my Samsung fascinate.
One thing I can't stand is the stock keyboard. It sucks badly compared to my wife's ipad.
i got my g tablet from staples for 399 plus tax im still happy with my purchase. to bad are sears shut down a few months back. it was my only choice at the moment no online retailers were selling any cheaper so i just bit the bullet and bought it. im sure if you look around or wait a while the price will drop. theirs alot of tablets hitting the market now
Sears Outlet
Check Sears Outlet on a daily basis (especially in the morning) With all the non-tech people returning these, because they suck out of the box, you can get a steal for around $240...
I got mine at $149 - display model, with full warranty...
Paid 399.00 for mine at OfficeDepot week before xmas. Had a defective screen so had to take it back once they had some more in stock. Took it back and recieved $32 back cause it happen to be onsale at the time of exchange . So far I am happy with it. Biggest selling point was the flash capability, being a more advanced user and not being able to leave things stock lol flashing was just a normal thing for me. Had a screen calibration issue but thanks to another member that has been fixed. As far as I'm concerned it best bang for the buck.
Just to let you know - on office depot's website, it was showing as 369 - when I went to the store on Christmas eve to purchase one, the store display showed 399 - took it to the cashier, it rang up as 369. Also, Office Depot has a coupon floating around for $20 off over $100 good until the 31st, but I didn't find that til after my purchase. Good luck!

[sold] Selling my Viewsonic G tablet w/bag, $270

bought new last Christmas from Sears. I installed Vegan-tab immediately and liked it very much. but after the vacation i found it became less useful to me-- my daily life is either sitting at office or at home (or driving, of coz) and i have two desktops and two note books to use. It just sit there for nearly a month now. So I am considering selling it for some cash.
It'll come with original case and accessories, and a AmazonBasics bag I bought for it (AmazonBasics Netbook Bag with Handle, Fits 7- to 10-Inch Netbooks, iPad (Black) ). I'd sell it for $270 and you pay the shipping you choose. I'm in north DFW area and local pickup is also welcome. you can save the shipping cost.
I also sent out the rebate form for its dock and they cashed out my $10.5 check for "shipping and handling", but I do not know when they will ship it... If you buy my gtablet, I promise I will ship the dock to you for free (you still need to pay the shipping though) as soon as I receive it.
silly me. just noticed the subject and didn't notice the forum. had my hopes up for a good deal on a galaxy tablet/something w/ 3g data capabilities.
I see.. let me change the title to indicate it's a Viewsonic G tablet, not a Galaxy tab
Very interested...
Can you post up some pics and do you take Pay-Pal as form of payment?
i am interested, how much to sell to sydney, australia.
and could you post some piccies?

I'm keeping mine, no worries. If the GTAB forum eventually dissapears, the device will go to my wife. The old trickle down effect....

I think its more a case of everyone trying to get the most money for the Tab while its still hot. With all the new Tabs coming out soon they fear prices dropping and want max value. Thats my take anyway, I could be wrong.
Mine is going to my wife as well. I take it to work everyday and when I get home she runs to me to pry it out of my hands. I think she'd kill me if I ever sold it. And just to think, before I owned a Gtab she "didnt like touch screen devices". Go figure..........................
Yep, makes sense. It's actually why I sold my dev unit as I figured my original GTAB would eventually become the dev unit (which is exactly what happened).

Robeet,
Not everyone is jumping ship; I still have 2 of these and will keep them as long as possible. Based on the tablets I have seen that is scheduled to release I still think we have the best of the lot. It is not our fault that VS was damn short sighted in their approach to this tablet.
It annoys me greatly that they did not push the channel hard enough on this device and have the leadership needed to make this a true force in the Market. It further annoys me that they did not have accessories available nor did they have 3rd party accessory suppliers in the ready. This was poor market strategy at work; guess they missed that whole business 101 course while in college.
No... all of us are NOT jumping ship; this tablet honestly has the capabilities I was initially looking for in a Tablet. Once we have 3.0 on this thing personally I will be set no matter what other wiz-bang device comes out later!!!!
Just my 2 cents worth
I wouldn't say "I'm jumping ship". The hardware inside G-tablet is mostly in line with the mainstream of tablets this year, and now you know their prices... I think g-tablet still has very high performance/price ratio.
I'm selling it just because I found that a tablet is actually not so useful to me...when I got this tablet I was very excited, flashing custom Roms, trying all kinds of apps, etc. However after the vacation, I could not find much use of it... browsing web, watching video? I'd rather use my desktop with a 24" LCD and dedicated mouse/keyboard. Playing game? The casual games on tablet are not comparable with "real" games on my game PC and consoles IMHO. Reading novels? My kindle 3 is more comfortable with its E-ink display... I guess the real problem is I stay at home or office almost all the time. Tablet is more useful to an outdoor man.
Just my 2 cents
I'd still like to buy this.....
Have you sold it yet?
I'm still very interested. Let me know what you want to do to take care of the transaction...

I'm actually looking to buy 2 more for friends
My boss even introduced my GTab to our clients as " Superfast TnT-Lite OS" tablet!
It is understandable that there are many more tegra 2 tablets coming with better specs + screen. Most of them starting around $400.
Xoom wifi is only $539 at Sam Club (according to engagdet)
I guess that if we can find a screen replacement + honeycream soon, people would stick around for longer..

canceled my gtablet order

I just canceled my order that I placed on woot.com because all this talk about the viewing angles and no market or honeycomb and I really like to have my devices ready fresh out the box so im just gunna wait for the Samsung 10.1 coming in june with its gorgeous display and slim design .I was having that feeling of buyers remorse after I ordered the gtablet lol
Those were the debates I had in my head when I was deciding whether to purchase the woot deal or not. You know what it came down to for me. The cheapest gtab with 16gb internal will be $499. $499-274.99=$224. That's practically 2 Gtabs for the price of one Samsung Galaxy Tab. Plus I will NEVER trust Samsung again when it comes to software. They have screwed me enough times and still are the slowest Android manufacturer at updating software.

I no have any problem with the viewing angles. For me it is ok. And don't expect cheaper tablets unless the unknown brands... The Gtablet is one of the most versatile tablets, you can flash freely almost anything without brick it.
And of course always is gonna be a better deal around the corner, if you wait, but it can keep you waiting for life. I rather prefer live the present.
Just my 0.02 cents
Angles do not bother me at all. In fact, I was traveling this week and the guy next to me kept trying to see what I was doing and I was glad to know that he probably was having trouble.
I have not doubt somebody will figure out how to get Honeycomb on this thing, but right now, I am happy with it as it is with Vegan. My plan is to keep this for a year while HC gets its bugs worked out and the technology drops in price. Then I will buy a new one and give this to my kids who use it over 50% of the time anyways...

I'm about to return my 2nd gtab.
I picked up my first Viewsonic gTab from Tiger Direct in Canada. The battery wouldn't charge right out of the box. I ordered another one and sent the first one back. The second randomly loses power while on battery. I have to tap it in the right spot to get it back up again.
I think the build quality is suspect on these units. I'm going to wait for Xoom/Asus Transformer/Samsung...I have to be patient...I don't want to get sucked in to the iDarkside available in stores now.
If every device worked "out of the box" sites like XDA would not be around. XDA is here to help improve the out of box experience. if you don't do that what's the point of coming here?

if you think buying a samsung product will get you a great out of the box experience you are sadly mistaken. the samsung vibrant was pretty much useless and took forever to get the froyi update necessary to make it run at even reasonable speed. cannot compare apples and oranges - this is a 285 dollar tablet

Used the screen to your advantage huh lol nice, and yea I get you by christmas the xoom will probably be around 400$ and also lg tablets toshiba tablets and the rest of the bunch
For the price, I'll take the drawbacks. I just need to do a bit of reading to figure out how to tweak it once it arrives. Hopefully some of my experience with the DX will come in handy.
Samsung makes decent hardware (though my sig might suggest otherwise) but their software sucks. Go look at how stressed out the CM guys are trying to get CM on the SGS.
At $280 the gTab is in the toy category. If I paid $400+ I would expect the thing to work flawlessly.
To each his own really, for me the excitement around the gTab is that it is nearly 100% unlocked so tinkering with the thing will be super easy.
Even some of the complaints people have with the device with the newest patches are kids play compared to some of the crap I had to deal with on my SGS in order to make it work the way I wanted.
That ran through my head for about 5 seconds. Then I remembered that I have a Vibrant.
The hardware's fantastic, but the software it shipped with was garbage, and samsung clearly doesn't give a crap about showing the modders any love with releasing source. Don't get me wrong, I love my phone, but it's the combo of Samsung hardware and Team Whiskey software that makes it good.
Personally, I'm avoiding giving Samsung any more money (Android-wise) unless they start acting more like HTC (who mostly does well, I think) or something.

A Little Advice

Hey,
Officially not the owner of a Transformer Prime, woohoo, got the refund I was after! But, its in store credit . I can't seem to find out where JB-Hi-FI says I can't have a cash refund:
http://www.jbhifi.com.au/documents/corporate/43_2012-01-06_10-10-25.pdf
So a massive gift card is what I get. So, I want the Infinity 32GB no dock, although probably will get one later, but I am not exactly sure about how to go about it. My other options in the store are a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (Poo), Toshiba Excite 10 (Err, not really), Nexus 7 (honestly, too small) and the A510 which is Acer and overheats. So really the Infinity does seem like the best. As many of you know the 64GB with dock is the first to release in Australia which to me seems mental, the person running ASUS over hear must be cos there are lots of wierd decisions. And there is no word on the 32GB which I am sure will eventually come, but I am not waiting another 6 weeks for it, so how am I supposed to deal with this. Anyone know an eta on the 32GB?
Thanks,
Hi,
i live in Italy and i also wanted to buy the 32GB version (more cheap) but ended up buying the 64GB version (a retailer had a very good price on it =515 euro) because there's no word about any other version here. I heard that Asus is selling the 32GB version in France, but i didn't checked that personally.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using xda app-developers app
Well for me it means paying an extra $300 odd dollars which is way more than I intended. I would possibly buy a 32GB with the dock but no way would I buy the 64GB, I would just never use that much.
32 GB is available here in US at best buy for 499
All good and helpful but I live in Australia. At least Apple has global releases and a pretty much fixed price, instead of plopping them here and there and raising the price everywhere. And yeah, if I did need the 64GB, I would just use an SD card, I only used about 6GB of my Prime, couldn't really use much more unless I filled it with movies. JB Hi-Fi have been extremely helpful and I can't really blame them for not getting the 32GB in, no one really has it but hopefully it shouldn't be too long. If not, I may be able to haggle down a Galaxy S3, but really, I bought the Prime to replace the laptop, and now I want an Infinity to replace the Prime so the docking and big screen are pretty important. In store credit, just hate them. Unless there was a way to import through them.

This may sound dumb, but I'm just taking a stab at it. But would shipping be that bad on something so small to prohibit buying on amazon and having it mailed to you. I realize that it'll cost you $40-$50 in shipping (guessing), but it means saving the $300 price hike and you actually get what you want and save the money. Or is it that you want to use that big ol gift card?
Thanks for the suggestion but yeah, I have to use this store credit. And the other problem is that Amazon dont ship electronics to Australia, had another store on hold though before I got the news I had a gift card.

Don't know what JBs is, quick google search suggests JB HIFI, an electronics outlet? But regardless, there are lots of places online that will buy your gift card. Again you will lose money, probably 20% (guessing), but you can get more for your card if you do a trade for credit to one of their cards for another outlet. I bought several gift cards to bestbuy for about 10% less then face value, used those to buy a TV that was already on sale and saved a massive amount in the end. Probably not the way you want to go, but just thinking outside the proverbial box.
Yeah, I would prefer to do it with the least amount of loss possible. But the good news is that the Prime is under $700 AUD with the dock for what I think is a first in Australia, so I think that suggests the Infinity will be in soon. They have axed the 32 GB no dock and have no 64GB at all, so it should be in. Official launch for the infinity is Tuesday so fingers crossed :fingers-crossed:

Don't forget about the Lenovo S2110 which has a keyboard dock almost identical to the Transformer(even has a large battery). The S2110's CPU is a Snapdragon S4 which is a generation newer than the Tegra 3.
That looks pretty nice, coming from a non Lenovo fan such as me. Unfortunately, we get hit again as this tab isn't coming to Australia. Are we really that minor to every other country?
Yay, got my refund, time to place an order on buyspry.com for a TF700, lets hope I get a good, one, if not, everyone will hear about it
Ugh, so confusing about what to do. Still probably going with BuySPRY.com as they seem to have the best tock and shipping but thats where I am sorta stuck. Some online stores place the Infinity shipping $50 higher than others which confuses me. Its FedEx International Priority so some pretty decent shipping. Add on insurance is also covered with an extra cost of $15 which I think I will get. But if I need to send it back, thats where the problem begins. I read ASUS provides a warranty for devices everywhere no matter where they are from. But any more advice would be more than welcome.
Thanks,

I want to sell my RMA tablet

I'm just so done. I dont care and want my money back. Screen issues, sound, charging, laggy rom.
How much would an unopened wifi tablet go for and where should i sell it.
Swappa.com. see how much they go for there.

Swappa.com would be a start or maybe reddit's techswap sub. But you can expect to not get very much for them as you won't be the only one doing this.
Jeez it's not that bad! Loving my Shield!
Another note to the OP: Screen/Sound/Charging issues shouldn't be an issue with your new tablet (or else, swap it out if you get a defective one), and I've found the 5.1.1 firmware/ROM to be quite snappy.
When you try to sell one of these, a lot of buyers will be suspicious that the article in question has one of the bad batteries... may make for lower prices on Swappa etc..

im going to be doing the same. I have the LTE version but I want to jump to a bigger screen instead. Going to sell it right when I receive the replacement BNIB. probably swappa and reddit will be the best places. ebay fees are way too high
Keep in mind the RMA replacements aren't apparently necessarily "new." Many of the communications have referred to them as refurbished. Thus, if you sell it, it should be listed as Mint. But not BNIB.
Planning on selling mine too. I'm moving on the Dell Venue 10 7000
I'm in the same boat... I want to get rid of that thing.
Dell XPS 13 will be the replacement.
A shame I've spent so much money on Tegra optimized games
Always the next tab from Nvidia if they continue to make one or other brands using their socs...
i'm looking for a Shield tab LTE if anyone is selling on swappa
