[TOOL][13-AUG-12]PARANOID ANDROID/AOKP RomPorterV5. Port ROMs in one click - Defy Android Development

This is my new tool to port AOKP, PARANOID ANDROID to our Defy/Defy+
CREDITS
brajesh.sharma87 for his tutorial on porting CM based ROMs and testing!
jurgen99 for spending a lot of time testing V5 and soft-bricking his phone a 1000 times!
phaelox for his awesome singing tool
Google for its amazing search engine
Requirements
Windows
Java
CM10/CM9 Rom for Defy
AOKP/PARANOID ANDROID Rom for a device similar to your device!(DEFY). Eg ROM = NEXUS S AOKP
500 MB on Hard Drive (Tool is < 1 MB. The ROMs need space)
Whats new
PARANOID ANDROID porting added! (For defy user, porting ICS PARANOID ANDROID works super fine. JB has issues)
Technically Galaxy S is also supported. Someone with a Galaxy S please confirm if it works fine.
[*]Add support for new devices to be added by just entering the name of apps to be backed up and removed in a plain .txt file
(Instructions to add support to new devices are in the README.txt
[*]Script now detects which phone is to recieve the port!
[*]Option of FORCE-PORT if their device isnt yet supported by this tool.
[*]Super easy way to add support for new devices.
[*]Code cleanup thanks to balika01
Instructions
Extract the AOKP/PARANOID ANDROID ROM and put its contents in the INPUT folder. So the input folder should have now META-INF and system folders at its root.
Extract the Defy/Defy+ CM10/CM9 ROM and put its contents in the OUTPUT folder. Same as above.
Run Port.bat!!
Notes
During the process you will be asked if you want to copy libandroid_runtime.so. Press y to copy or any other key to ignore(CAPS Y is not a yes).
If you choose not to copy and your ROM boots, its fine!. If ROM doesn't boot, then delete the output zip and run the tool again and this time choose to copy the libandroid_runtime.so. If still ROM doesn't boot then we have a problem . Post here and someone will try to help you!.
For PARANOID ANDROID try pressing y first. It needs libandroid_runtime.so
When porting for second time, empty the input and output folders and re-copy the files. Do this each time.
Coming Soon
Paranoid Android Porter. DONE!
Ability to port from devices other than Nexus S. (DONE!!)
Ability to port to devices other than Defy (95% done! only need a list of stuff to be deleted according to each device. I can add device support when users of that particular device submit a list of APKs that are in other ports which is not used by their device and a list of APKs which are in their CM ROMs and need to remain after the port)
Want to see this tool working for your device?
Please give me the following information:
-Information like which apps are specific to your device (eg, for defy we have defyparts, motohelper, etc)
-Apps which are present in AOKP/PARANOID roms which are useles on your device (eg fo defy NFC.apk, tvout.apk)
Click to collapse
Ps- Included is an awesome automatic build.prop editor which took me quite a while to code
Removed Older versions by accident

at the moment, u dont have to copy "libandroid_runtime.so" for porting AOKP JB from Nexus S, so just press "n" when asked to copy that file.

THANKS
can we port AOKP roms from other devices as well ?
like - maguro ??
and will there be any need to add any DEFY specefic apps , like defy settings etc..?
thanks again for this work ( highly appreciated)

The Defy apps are taken care of!
Its best if you use only Nexus S ROMs right now! The build.prop editor is now tailored for Nexus S ROMs. The ROM may boot but build.prop will have false info.

I have ported manually aokp maguro and is better than SGS, more features.
Maybe we can use ROM Control and SystemUI from that in this port, I will try ..
Nice work!!

hmm , any fix for button backlight ??
everything else is working fine
some things u might have missed :
automatic brightness settings , navigation inside ( setting > display ), etc .. are these options defy specefic and they should be merged , or its AOKP specefic ??

Using nexus s. Nt galaxy nexus
The problem is my build.prop editor searches for crespo and changes to jordan. Thats the only issue. In maguro it cant find crespo.

This only automates porting. Whatever doesnt work in the base ROMs dont work in the output. Check if defyparts is there in system/app in the output zip.
ROM booted right?
Thats what the tool does
Aokp functionality is not under its control

actually i have not enough time to make some screenshots....wait some minutes and flash the rom
you need gingerbread baseband installed.
Nice to see some real development work, not just a quick abandonware kitchen job like some other 'roms' we've seen lately...
If you could list the major differences between our stock P500 rom and the Optimus Net rom you have developed in the first post (you probably already plan to anyway) that would be great and probably save a bunch of questions later (probably not with some...)

Q & A thread for [ROM][ICS][IML74K] EXPERIMENTAL CM9 4.0.3

M creating this thread as m sick of seeing noob people polluting the development thread just for the "nice work , congrats ,will flash it,good work, will be waiting for stable realese" blah blah blah.......n repoting small irrelevent problems too..........
so watever u have to say use this thread n keep the development thread clean..............so that the devs can build it easily.....
thanx for reading n understanding !!!!! we hope ur cooperation!!!!!
Hello Sachin ,
If you can please answer the following questions then it would be very helpful
1) Why is it very Difficult to develop a cyanogen mod or Miui (How do the devs go about the process) ?
2) Can you give some details about porting roms (I know dsixda's Kitchen has an option of porting and i does a very basic porting) ? once its ported using dsixda's Kitchen which tool is used for debugging for the errors which follow ?
3) Is there any other method of porting Rom's which is better ?

answer 1: there no proper source files for cm7 n miui thats y its very difficult ro make a stable version of em n the files we have r broken n even no documentatiion for them that's its difficult!!!! secondly lack of developers is also a main reason if team samsung wud have taken the work on their hands we wud have gotten cm7/miui by now....but unfortunately our devices are not so popular!!!!
2: check this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168916
you can use dsidia itself it has a option for checkin errors n for the bugs u have to corect them urslf by using brain like if some procees giving error replace its files with another rom's file!!!! thats wat i know if there is sumthing more i cant tell u as i dont know abt it
3: yes there is see this http://android.modaco.com/topic/348695-guide-how-to-port-a-rom/ and this http://www.freeyourandroid.com/guide/porting-android
n lastly thanku for using this thread n not bugging the development thread!!!
Thank you for the reply .

Guys i was thinking to upload video for every cm9 with every update....discussion problems...whts nd what is not.....
Some more small problems.....
I m using it as my daily rom......known issues r known but some more minnor isues..
Wall paper scrolling...on stock launcher....using apex launcher but facing problem with widgets.....contacts problem....not able to show contacts directly from sim.....have to import to phone first(nt a big issue)...but when u sync ur google account....ur google saved contacts r shown....i dnt know why my account is showing a single contact 8 to 9 times....if u go to display options...nd unselect google contacts....u r left with 0 contacts.........nd if u go nd select show all contacts it will show u ur google contacts with...ur sim contacts.....the problem is sim is also messing up with google account.....solution-go to settings.....account setting....remove ur google accouny...then again sign in...then immediately go to settings then account settings nd dis sellect sync contacts..... ..

I just use the facebook app from market to sync all contacts ,have you tried it ??
And il flash the rom when i reach home on wed then il maybe be of more help
I tested it for a couple of hours. And was better than I expected, the phone was working reallly fast and smooth.
The most annoying bug/issue was that my Wifi wasn't working well, I couldn't find my Network.
I'll read about news, this'll be one of the best roms.
There is a quick and dirty fix for that. Just add a network manually, then scan. it works fine that way.
Indeed, ICS is very stable and fast on i9003, the biggest issue is probably Camera/Video.
Also, just as with CM7, no forms of tethering work. I use easytether.
how to enable the soft keys ?

It's so nice to see how this great ROM that is Cyanogen is developing, when i first get my I9003 i though there was little modding for this smartphone, thanks to Zeus it isn't like that!
I come from a Defy and this is my first Samsung.
I would like to know if anybody knows how often are nighties or kangs released or where i can find 'em
why there is no /system/usr/idc/mxt224_ts_input.idc in cm9?
and
does deleting 00 android from /system/lib/egl/egl.cfg and keeping it to 0 1 POWERVR_SGX530_125 improve graphic performance?
Weird problem.. unable to download anything from either market or stock browser.. the downloading bar appears but nothing gets downloaded.. surfing is ok.. just no downloads.. there is free space in sd card..
Problem on wifi and 2g as well as 3g internet..
Downloads were fine the last time i installed cm9 for testing..

I have a prepared a build, it should work (at least in theory) I'll test it and maybe upload it later.
__________________________________________________________________________________
Update: I used LoLaTiOn's updater script on my port (had it for weeks but it just wouldn't boot), and the Nexus S 1.4a build instead of the Galaxy Nexus build that LoLaTiOn used, it provides for better framework compatibility, since both are WVGA phones.

[ROM]AOKP jb-mr1[WIP] 30.06.2013

Hi,
After almost 2 weeks of working on something that didn't have progress (ldpi resizing, for the ones who missed it), I decided to do something that has a chance to succes.
I succesfully build AOKP today. It is my weekend project, so I am off for the weekend now. Been testing, and everything that works in Androidarmv6 CM-10.1 works on AOKP.
I.m.o. camera, camcorder and panorama are working even better then in CM-10.1
I decided that if there is no pain, there is no gain. So I compiled for Mini and Fit too. (actually Fit is still compiling atm).
For Fit, Mini and Galaxy5 I took TheWhisps resized overlay from AOKP JB and it compiled without complaining.
So for all of you who want AOKP with a (minor?) change to a workeable layout, here it is.
My goal was to stay as close to AOKP as possible. For hardware (Qcom part) I used the CM/Androidarmv6 parts. It is well done, in words of support, so why not use it.
For frameworks, I decided to port all our fixes for YouTube, camera, EGL over to AOKP sources. Taking androidarmv6 might have been an easier choice. But in my mind, AOKP is much closer to AOSP, therefore more lightweight and if succesfull porting is possible, why not?
The rest of it is all AOKP source
Downloads in second post!
Here you will find the AOKP manifest and here you will find my mods.
What is working? What not?
Like I said, everything what is working in Androidarmv6 here works on AOKP. You tell me please!!

is the issue only with gallery or with all other apps ?
did you try doing a media scan via developers tools(maybe launch tools.)
or if only in gallery and filemanager works fine try force stopping gallery2 and clearing gallery's data.
happened on early release of cm10.1 to me too.
thumbs up
great work erikas
root browser lite doesnt detect sd, also system doesnt detect ringtones in sd,tryed media scanning but no go.

I will not stop CM-10.1
I will consider putting a filemanager to AOKP but first solve some bugs

I'm talking about CM 10.1, and not about AOKP. I'm interested for CM 10.1, and not for AOKP.

hi, nice to see additional roms for the Pantech Burst! Is this better than CM and if so, in what way(s)?
Edit: sorry I did not notice the "dev" only label.

MIUI is based on CM10. And its not upto me to tell if its better than any ROM. It depends on which ROM has features that suite the end user. For now this ROM is still in alpha build. A lot of things are still broken.
Lol , I was working on porting MIUI from Evo 3D . Its good you did source build . BTW can you brief me a little ? Its the same as building CM or some other steps ? Kindly provide a brief tutorial how you compiled as other devs did . That way everyone can compile and do debugging .
Thanks and regards
-UC
EDIT : It doesn't seems its a source build . Its a port , you should mention it in first page.
Many things don't work -
System ui
No miui launcher
backlight
torch app
...
BTW for all others who are willing to support and ready to work , read this thread and start porting . We all can work together on latest version of MIUI to port .

There must be something wrong with either these files
-Framework-res.apk ( wrong public.xml values causing problems to any of the functions in systemui .)
-services.jar ( maybe some imp base string might be missing )
--systemui.apk itself ( but less chance , or maybe resolution problem too .)
-Any other files , you ported you must be knowing . Gimme some more info I'll work a little on it too ,
- your MIUI's Base rom link ? Which device ?
- What you did while porting ? Replaced app, framework, fonts, media with MIUI ( after checking everything you found necessary ) and tweaked updater script ?
MY suggestion : I think its better if we work on another greater version of MIUI to port . Its a very appreciable effort of yours to atleast give kind attention to MIUI also . I think making things work on this port won't be that hard but if same amount of work given on latest version that will be more good . :good:

I'll recheck those. I used nexus s 4g port ROM. It was just a trial that I made. Started this thread to bring all the devs to work together since we have very few for our device. What miui did you think of porting?

First will try with MIUI version 3.4.12 - 3.3.x . Those are also based on 4.1.2 and are latest . I'll link you to some good device's source build .
EDIT : [ROM] MIUI v5 3.4.12 - OR - Unofficial MIUI V5(See nexus S link) What you say ? . I personally Prefer both . Sensation's build because its chipset will be similar to ours (quallcomm) and Nexus S for same resolution , though resolution isn't a big deal i think :/ through MIR we can resize framework-res.apk and rest the needful apps will be resized . But since you successfully made nexus S build boot , I think we should go with that ? What you say ?

I feel sensation is a better choice ...resolution shouldn't be a problem. Will try it tonight and post the results. Lets try out what's best for our devices.

Yes. The framework-res definitely needs to be re-sized. Let's see how the port comes out.
