service goes in and out on i9020a - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't know what the issue is here, but my Nexus S i9020a keeps going in and out of having service. I will have service, then all of the sudden I won't be able to make calls or get text messages. I have to either have to wait a couple minutes, reboot it, or kick it in and then out of airplane mode. I don't know what the issue is. I'm running 4.1.1 with the UCKJ1 (newest) radio.
Has anyone else experienced this problem before?

P6200 mobile data bug

Today my mobile data suddnely started dissapearing. It is always on, but the 3g icon appears and dissapears every second. I reflashed, did full wipe, still happens. Something happened to 3g hardware or else i don't know what to do.
What firmware are you using? ICS official? HC? CM9?
Are you sure it's not a network issue? This happened to me a few days ago (using CM9) but it was my carrier's fault. Everything back to normal a few hours later. Do you have another phone from the same carrier that you can check the signal?
I have the same problem too. I'm not sure if its the network problem or ICS. I'm running OCS official 4.0.4 Austrian version. The problem I'm facing is that the ping time has increased significantly. When I was on HC, it was around 65ms for 3g network. Now, the ping time is increased to 250+ms.. because of this, some of the apps are not working.
Has this happened to anyone else?
The problem started around 2-3 days after I flashed ICS.
If someone has a solution/understands this, pls help me out. I spoke to my network provider, their answer is that, they cannot guarantee about the download time. I kept insisting that its not the DL speed, its the ping time. But the fools couldn't understand my problem.n

Data Randomly dropping but signal fine

This is driving me nuts so if anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears
My Nexus 5 keeps dropping data. The Signal bar will still display full with H, but nothing will connect. If I'm running a ping it'll just stop and then eventually kick back in with 10000ms or something - Anything else i'm trying to do just plain won't connect. Could understand if I was losing signal but I don't seem to be.
Haven't had a chance to try the sim in my old phone yet to find out whether it's the network or the phone - was just wondering if anyone had experienced anything similar? :S

happening to me with sprint 3g on the unofficial cm 10.2. have to toggle airplane mode, not sure if its a CM thing or a sprint thing since i literally flashed CM the next day i got it lol
still happens
a few cm11 updates and almost a month later its still happening
I just started experiencing this same thing in the last week. Real frustrating part of it (beyond the obvious) is that there is no way to tell this is happening unless you are actively using the network at the moment the signal is lost. So if the phone is in your pocket and not being used, you'll really have no way of knowing whether you are missing important phone calls/text messages simply by looking at the display of the phone. Each time I only notice when I am trying to load a web page and it says I'm not connected to the internet (even though it shows that I have a strong LTE connection). Talked to both Google and T-Mobile about this and both basically pointed their fingers at the other. I'm pretty convinced that the problem is on Google's/LG's end though.
Getting my third RMA in the mail next week. Will likely take them up on their refund offer if this continues. Believe it or not, the intermittent loss of data isn't even the reason I set up the initial RMA (or the reason I sent back the first two RMA's I received).
I have this on both Three and GiffGaff in the UK. I also had this problem on my old Galaxy S2, so maybe it's an android problem?

Fix for frequent data connection dropouts.

Virtually no SMS or calls when wifi connected

Since yesterday morning I receive very few SMSs or calls when wifi is connected.
I installed 4.4.4 a few days before that so I doubt it's that (although I supposed it's possible)
I've reflashed the radio, reflashed 4.4.4 in its entirety, flashed CM11 - all with the same result - when wifi's connected I hardly ever receive any calls or SMSs (no problems dialing out or sending)
Unless anyone else has similar problems I don't think it's worth going back to 4.4.3.
So now I'm left wondering if it's the hardware or the SIM, or...?

Yes, I can dial out and send SMSs.
When someone calls you what signal do they get? And their messages stay "pending"?

They either get a ringing tone a few times at their end end then an unavailable tone, or just an unavailable tone / message.
The messages eventually arrive, maybe 6-10 hours later, or when I switch wifi off.

Turn off LTE and I bet it will work. It's been a known issue for awhile with LTE and WIFI on you will miss calls/sms.
Google it and you will see many threads about it.

Weird - I had already read up on that (it seemed to be a pre 4.4.3 problem) and could swear I had already tried switching it without success but now I've switched again it seems to have done the trick - I'm just waiting to get some test SMSs sent. :good:
I wonder why it worked okay until yesterday morning and then just suddenly stopped working - it would suck if I'd paid for 4G!
I suppose it's of some comfort that I'm not the only one on 4.4.4 with this problem...

I've tried it again - back to not receiving calls or SMSs even with 4G turned off unless I'm disconnected from wifi.
A few minutes on the phone to Google - and they're sending me a new phone! :victory:
This is a long standing issue with the N5. A solution that worked for me is to disable keeping WIFI on during sleep. Not sure if that will work for everybody though.

How did that conversation go? When I bought my phone, it took something like 2 hours for it to download the required sprint activation package (I think it was something like 50mb)...And the radio has been giving me grief ever since day 1 with signal constantly dropping any/everywhere...I just thought it was more related to Sprints crummy service in my area though.

[Q] Issue with call dropping when I first answer the phone

Hello!
Just recently I've been having an issue with my phone. I was on Stock 20k firmware and when I would answer a call, the call would drop. I ended up flashing the modem for D800 that fixes the text message lag and I thats when I started to notice it. I ended up completely reflashing my phone back to stock 10o via LG Flash tools and upgrading over OTA all the way to 20y and rooted with stump root. I still have the issue, I think it may be my microcell but my brother has a S3 and he doesn't have the same issue so I believe it has to do with my phone. Has anyone ever had this issue? Its extremely annoying, im tempted to go back to 10o again and see if it does it. Ive tried almost everything on my end. Also if the person ends up calling me back or if I call them back the call works fine. Its a really weird bug.
Thanks of your help.

I have the same issue. No firmware modifications to my G2, everything is stock. I have always had problem connecting to the microcell and now I am on my 3rd microcell and my second G2. Constant disconnects, as soon as the call connects or about after 5 seconds. I can call back and it will be fine after that first disconnect. Getting less disconnects now but it still happens. Recently, I switched to Cox from AT&T Uverse and got a SB6580 modem. Opened up all the required ports for the microcell and now my call quality is 10 times worse than before. I can hear the caller crystal clear, they can hear me for a few mins and the it goes downhill from there. I called and left voicemail for myself on another phone and it is the worse call quality I ever heard. Barely audible and cutting out. I ran the same test with my wife's Galaxy S5, and didn't have any issues at all. At this point I don't know what to do except to get rid of this phone. Please let me know if you have found a fix.

[Q] Delayed Text Messages on 3G

Hey guys,
Been with Sprint for awhile now, and I don't recall noticing this before. But so long as I am on 3G and NOT LTE, then all my incoming texts are delayed by at the very least 5 minutes. Sometimes even up to 20 minutes.
I am running MOAR ROM, Lollipop. My initial question is if anyone running stock has this issue? If not, I will return to stock and check it out to see if maybe its my account. I remember before I had a similar issue with T-Mobile, and they had to re-add my phone back to their network. I'm trying to dial down the issue and see if it is something I can fix or if I need to travel to sprint's store.
Thanks all.
Seriously? Nobody running stock can say "I get texts fine on 3g" or "I'm running stock and have delayed messages too". Wow.
