TF700 -vs- Samsung 2 10.1 - Asus Transformer TF700

Wow, this Samsung Galaxy 2 10.1 rocks the socks off the Infinity. I wonder why it just seems so much smoother? 16GB is $399. Can't beat it. And guess what? The two STEREO speakers are on the front!
Anyone compare these products? I'm a bit surprised.

Are your retinas burning?
Also, tf700 isn't dual core, it's quadcore @ 1.6 ghz and it costs 499 for the 32 gb version.

The screen resolution is horrible and if you like waiting 12 months for post purchase firmware support, good luck with that. They are notoriously slow with updating their product. Why you ask? Because they want you to buy their next best product in their lineup. If they updated their software and it's comparable with the new Samsung, people won't buy. That's why I love Asus so darn much. They are constantly updating for us to keep us happy campers.
That's why Samsung didn't update their screen ext... they know people will jump aboard because the software on their previous models is antiquated.
I'LL PASS

Well... As others said... I personally owned Galaxy 10.1, Galaxy 10.1 Verizon 4G version before. Samsung is extremely slow on its update and I believe finally original 10.1 is getting ICS now. Touch Wiz is nothing but slow down overall performance. Perhaps Galaxy 2 might been different, but my infinity runs much smoother than the Galaxy 10.1 Setting Infinity to power save mode gives me occasional stutter appearing home menu swipe or new application launch, which reminds me of my Galaxy 10.1 experience.

This is some of the oldest tricks to get some flame bait on the internet. I wouldn't expect to find a great conversation on this board on which is better. You are better off looking at the general board for this type of post.
I'd rather have the Transformer series of tablets. The keyboard and all of the features is brings makes the Infinity at the top of the mountain for android tablets.

Day before Mothers day and it was sold out at all the electronics stores near me ended up getting one at Wal-Mart 40 miles away. Its now my wife's tab while she's recovering from shoulder surgery as its the perfect size and does what she wants it to do. She loves it and said to put her iPad2 on eBay. I was dead set against getting another Asus product after the Prime but the 700 I have now is night and day different.

The galaxy tab 2 10.1 is worse than the TF300 which is sold for $399 for the 32 GB version, and now you can get it on amazon for $374, i think theonly thing the galaxy tab is better is the speaker, that's it

Here in Canada you can get a galaxy tab for free when you sign up with Telus...then you'll find them re-selling in kajiji and nobody buying....Id rather have Acer Iconia if i cant get Asus....Samsung phone's great but their tablet sucks....we'll see with the Note 10.1...this could be their flagship tablet....

Best android tablet, preferably one that will be updated to ics

So I'm getting ready to dump my ipad. I personally have narrowed it down to the Acer iconia a500 and the Asus transformer. I was also maybe considering the galaxy tab 7 plus cause I like the idea of a smaller more portable tablet. What are my fellow Atrix users rocking in the tablet space?! Suggestions and comments welcome. I've been researching all day. I'd also like to be fairly certain that what I buy will get ics and/or has an unlocked bootloader. Thanks!

EDIT:
Was waay late last night when I somehow surfed to this page. I was the one confused about threads, my bad. Android Central posted a "Will my tablet get ICS?" Maybe that helps.
Wherever it belongs; I'd like to hear peoples thoughts too. Although I want to get a new motorbike before I splurge on a tablet... so I probably wont purchase for at least another 6 months.
All the same... Thoughts?
i have samsung tab 10.1 and its great
I have a transformer and it's really awesome Asus updates it really fast and there is a lot yo can do with it as well as it being cheaper then all other 10.1' tabs
Now I I don't know much about honeycomb. But it isn't all that from what I've read. The Acer has a tft screen and the transformer has an ips screen (Technically better) i think. my issue with the galaxy tabs is their adapters that are needed. Very ipad like in my opinion.

[Q] can not decide on which 7" tablet

The motely crew are
HTC Flyer 32GB 3G = £250
Samsung Galaxy 7 Plus WiFi = £350
Nook Tablet, rooted n flashed by me = £210 if customs don't intercept, £250 if they do
all have big plus's, all have negatives
I want to be on ICS by March, updated or flashed.
i was thinking about this too. i want a 7" tablet, not a 10" one..
the galaxy tab 7" plus is how i decide, as soon as i got enough money xP
the galaxy tab has overall better hardware, and the design is awsome.
the flyer tab just has a better camera and handwritting support.. but who uses the main cam on a tab? Oo
and the flyer does not have a gyro sensor wich would be nice in a tablet..
the new 7.7 SAMOLED+ is the better choice as it will get ICS
I was looking at the Engadget and they reported the demise of the rim playbook... a great idea if your looking for a 7 inch tablet. You can use the google app market, and a all 3 versions are 299us.
7.7 won't fit in my jacket :-(

Just wanted to chime in here ..
I picked up a Galaxy Tab 7" (2 of them actually) and got them for free w/ 2 year contract on them. Nice size, a bit on the slow side, but for both (myself and my fiance), she does a lot of books on it and plays a lot of the social games and I do mostly console emulators, MAME, email, and browse they are perfect.
Then I picked up a for HTC Flyer (Wifi) for $199. I originally was going to use this device for just tinkering around and what not. Then just got the Honeycomb Update .. I don't even touch my Tab anymore. I also picked up the stylus for it, well worth it.

Samsung unveils Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0), Very similar to the Galaxy Tab plus!
It looks like Samsung has just taken the wraps off its latest tablet offerings, with the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) -- an ICS-laced follow-up to the company's original seven-incher. Available in both 3G and WiFi varieties, this redux doesn't mark a huge departure from its predecessor, packing a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and a 1024 x 600 LCD. The big changes, however, come in the software department, with the Galaxy Tab 2 shipping with Android 4.0 straight out of the box. Other than that, you'll find a three-megapixel rear-facing camera, a VGA shooter up front, Bluetooth capabilities, and HSPA+ connectivity. No word yet on pricing or availability, but it's worth noting that we first saw this announcement hit Samsung's RSS feed earlier this morning, and it appears to have been pulled since then. It all looks awfully official to us, but when it becomes officially official, we'll be sure to update this post accordingly. Until then, be sure to head past the break for a shot of its backside.

I just got the 7.0 plus last week. So reading all the stuff about the tab 2 there seems like I have no real reason for tab envy right? Or do you think I should return and wait for this?
Well the Galaxy Tab 2 has a slower processor. I wouldn't go and run to return it. The Plus will be receiving ICS and theoretically be faster. At that point hopefully Samsung will release ALL of the source code and not leave some out so people can start developing further for the Plus.
So to answer your question stick with what you have.
Stick with the 7.0+ it's equal or better in all hardware aspects.
This is just an ICS bait-and-switch tactic by Samsung.

And for anyone waiting or regretting a 7plus purchase, don't, our 7plus is a better device. And if it a 1ghz tegra 2 in that tab 2, then our tab is a ****load better. Tegra 2 isn't all that.

While it's tempting to have the latest and greatest I also bought mine last Friday and am completely satisfied with it. To be honest I can't usually tell the difference between one OS and another so having GB or ICS isn't going to do much for me if there isn't a very obvious difference. So I'll be happy with my Plus. Now phones? that's different...

The Tab 2 is using inferior processer, TI OMAP. Theres a reason its able to sell for $249 why its 1ghz, because its not a exynos and mali.

[Q] Keep my GT-P6210 or trade in for Galaxy Tab 2 series?

I bought this Tablet a week ago at Best Buy..Well, long story short, my GF bought me a Nook Tablet and I "delicately" talked her into letting me exchange it for this tablet. Truthfully, I wasnt ready for a tablet purchase, so I'm playing catchup on learning curve. I was going to let them mature a bit more before I bought, but hey, I find I'm really liking the thing! Now, I just read that the Galaxy Tab 2's are coming out later this month and I have a few weeks left on my return window with BB and was just wondering if it was a good move to stay with this 7 Plus or jump over to the new generation?
Thanks for any help!
Look, Tab 7 Plus is a little bit powerfull than Tab 2 Series. The only thing that seems better in Tab 2 is that it has native ICS OS! Otherwise I read it has a lower camera and CPU (1Ghz instead of 1.2 of the 7 plus).
Anyway I'm happy 'cuz we'll have also ICS for flashing ...we will get it even if Samsung won't official release it soon.
ICS on a so similar device means ICS (custom, leaked or official) even for our

I am still surprised at the fact they released the galaxy tab 2.
Call me naive, but i didn't for-see Samsung releasing a tablet with is sole big feature is the version of the os.
I think they skimped on features on the tab 2 to better compete with the kindle fire.

Yup, I think Turbo hit the nail on the head. The tab 7.0 2 (horrible naming right there) is being released to lower the price point to compete with the cheaper 7 inch tablets from Amazon and B&N. At $249, and considering it is running ICS, I'm guessing this thing will sell quite well.
Honestly I wouldn't sell the 7.0 Plus to get the number 2, as apart from the OS, it really is a significant downgrade. Go compare the specs on something like the verge, they have quite a good layout for comparing specs.
Hopefully Samsung will stop being slack and release ICS for their already released tabs. The problem with their release a million and one versions is that it is going to massively slow the update process.
Im in the same situation as yaknow1, bought my 7.0 tab plus on 4/2, from Best Buy, so I also am within my return window.
I agree with most of the comments here, there really isnt much of a significant increase in hardware specs and a decrease in some (albeit small). The biggest significant feature is ICS.
Agree with the comments that the 2 is a cheaper product made to hit a lower price point to compete with the fire and the rumored Google tablet. After reading the comments here, I think I am going to stick with my 7.0 tab plus and just wait out an official release of ICS.
I just hope the 7.0 2 doesnt slow down or negate Samsung's motivation to release the ICS upgrade.
No Exynos processor in the new Tab 2 also. The 7.0 plus is a keeper.
If you want to sell it PM me i'm looking for one Cash Buyer
Well, you don't want to trade for an inferior tablet do you?
The Tab2 line is more focused on low cost.

Ok so here's what I know. I own the Galaxy Tab P7510, tab P6210 and for a week the Tab 2 P3113. The Tab 7+ 6210 is better than the Tab 2 3113, 6210 is a slight faster with a 1.2g processor 16 gig memory and a better camera on Honeycomb 3.2. The Tab 2 3113 has a 1.0g processor and 8 gig memory and the pictures are a little grainy looking. That said I would keep the Tab 7+ over the Tab 2, I got the Tab 7+ for $299 on sale and caught the Tab 2 for $240 including tax. ICS is good but not sure it's worth the downgrade in hardware.
The Tab 2 is great at the cost and would have gotten it before, now I'm going to give itnas a gift to a granddaughter. JMO

I think after listening to everyone, the smart move is to keep my 7plus. That and the fact I got it for $299 I don't think saving $50 is really worth the downgrade? Now on to rooting! lol

Personally I have both devices and both provide me with enjoyable experiences. Is the 7.7 EOL? Probably but it's still a very worthwhile device especially viewing mp4 movies and any other visually-rich activities where space is an issue.
If you have the $280 to spare I'd pull the trigger. (You save FAR more than I did when I bought mine many months ago when it first came out!)

Same decision here and I chose the 7.7 after comparing to the Nexus. Even though its old and discontinued it still blows away the nexus IMHO. The screen on the 7.7 is miles better and you have the SD card slot. Also I am running JB 4.2.2 flashed following information from these very forums.

Hope it will give you much pleasure despite the fact that it is a low-end device, opposed to the high-end 7.7
GT 7.7 is better built quality than Nexus 7.
it's supposed to get JB as Samsung Thailand says.
but when this happen, already Android 5.0 will be out, and maybe 7.0 inch tablets with Full HD displays will out also, so if you like software upgrades fast and clean, go to nexus cause Samsung sucks at it, or wait until Full HD tablets with Android 5.0 is out.
it's still a great tablet. such excellent build quality, expandable memory, screen is amazing people comment on it all the time, option to get a pay as you go sim, keep it in there and get data as needed on a month to month basis, still quite fast with ICS. JB would be nice but not 100% needed plus there are some ROM options that provide JB like features.
im flying overseas this summer, right now there is no other tablet i would want with me. i can put multiple movies on here and watch them, and enjoy wifi wherever, and if really needed get wireless data also. what else could you ask for? well a nexus device with this kind of build quality, expandable memory and this screen. but that is not happening yet.
Dude ... the screen is really enough reason to buy that awesome device .. the only tab with Super AMOLED Plus screen !
and btw .. Samsung announced that it's going to have Jelly Bean update in Q2 i guess
