extra volume setting... not working ? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey I am having an issue with extra volume setting it seems like it mutes the volume instead of making it louder... running synergy rom.

i have the same problem. When i hit the extra volume button in-call it mutes the sound completley, both on speaker phone and earpiece. I am also running synergy (1.7). I also noticed the same problem on synergy 1.1. I tried reflashing after a complete wipe and also reinstalled several stock apps that had to do with sound and audio, but nothing has worked so far.

I'm not sure how I got it working it exactly, but the only two major changes that I have made were installing and configuring Lightflow app to control the LED color and then I ran Fix Permissions through ROM Manager. I just tested it out and the extra volume button works fine now. It works on both speakers. I've ran fixed permissions several times before that too, but it did nothing for the problem previously.

Help losing all volume at times

Seemingly at random times I am losing all sound on my phone at times. I have my phone set to vibrate and play a ringtone. I am running Cognition 2.2b6. Any ideas on how to fix? Thanks!
I just called my phone and the ringtone started to play but then stopped after the first level of sound (normally the volume gets louder and louder). It seems like the external speaker is not working. I tried to use the speaker phone during a call and I couldn't hear anything.
well you are on a very early beta build rom...why not try flashing to newer more complete rom. like cog 4.5...
Put the phone in the road outside your house, no more problems

[Q] No unlock or keyboard sounds after muting phone

Last night after muting my phone before going to bed I noticed the lock/unlock sounds don't work and the keyboard sounds are also gone. I've tried remuting the phone, checking all the volume levels, making sure the boxes are checked for the sounds to play. I've gone as far as reflashing my current ROM (CM9 nightly) and still nothing. Anyone have any other ideas? Email, text, phone and reminder sounds work fine.
My phone is a NS4G on sprint running the newest CM9 nightly. I've muted my phone before going to bed every night and this is the first time I've had an issue with these sounds not playing.
EDIT: I found the solution for myself. Download audio manager and see your system volume, mine was set to 0 for whatever reason. There is no native system volume setting but other apps can change it so it's good to have the audio manger to see if any other app changes that setting.

[Q] - CM9 with EXTREMELY loud earpiece

I recently upgraded from CM7.1 to CM9. I love everything about this, but for some reason the earpiece volume is overly loud. With the volume adjusted all the way down, I still have to hold it 6"+ away from my head while on a call.
Troubleshooting steps I've taken:
Full wipe of caches
Reinstall of ROM
Re-download & reinstall ROM
Scouring forums and using google-fu attempting to find someone who's had a similar issue, but no joy.
I did find a thread detailing an import of libaudio.so from a previous ROM, but the file structure wasn't identical and I didn't want to mess things up anymore than I already have. I've attempted messing around with DSP, but I'm not sure if the 3 settings available (speaker, BT, headset) even apply to the earpiece.
I included a screenshot of my current kernel version & software if that helps. Any assistance would be appreciated.
EDIT: Problem solved. I'm not sure the root issue, but after several back and forths I've found a workaround. Usually when I would initiate a call, volume would be on the lowest setting (albeit unnaturally loud). Adjusting the volume via the external buttons to its max, then back down lowered the earpiece volume to a tolerable level.

Very low in call earpiece volume after 4.4.2 update

Hey Guys -
Black 16GB Nexus 5 here. My in call volume using the earpiece is very very low since the 4.4.2 update. I have the volume maxed out and have already cleared cache, and even data reset once. Did not help at all.
The only way to use the phone making a call is to use a headset or be indoors in a very quiet room. Even then it's hard to hear the caller using the earpiece. I always have to use a headset for making calls.
I remember the in call volume being louder before the 4.4.2 update. After the update, however, the microphone functionality is improved and people can hear me better now (compared to 4.4.0 stock). However, it's hard for me to hear them.
I just wanted to see if someone else faced this problem or whether this is a manufacturing defect in my phone.
Thanks.

Do you use stock kernel/etc? May have been a bad update with software, may have to reflash if persists. But before that, try wiping data/cache of sound MusicFX (I believe is the sound production point) and reboot. Try again to see if sound improved. Check volume levels and settings as well.

Thanks for replying.
Yes I am on stock Kernel. Just used Chainfire's root to root the phone and unlock the bootloader. I used ADB/fastboot to apply the 4.4.2 update.
The sound is fine from the speaker. The music and everything else is fine. Even the notifications are a little louder in 4.4.2 than they were in 4.4.0.
It's just that the earpiece volume is very low while making calls when I have the phone to my ear. Everything else is great. The battery is excellent. I use ART runtime.
Should I reapply the 4.4.2 update using the ADB install method? Will that help? Can you please tell me how to wipe the cache of Sound/Music FX? I wiped the cache of the whole phone. I went into Recovery and Wiped cache partition. That did not help as well.
I am wondering whether this is a hardware defect on my phone or Google intentionally lowered the earpiece volume in 4.4.2.
Thanks.

Not hardware defect, volume is fine everywhere else as you said. Try redoing and push after wiping musicfx, this can be done by settings> apps> go to all tab>find musicfx> wipe. Try that first and reboot.
Ice looked around and it seems Kitkat has bug with Bluetooth volume levels for stock. My other solution would be, if you want, a custom ROM, or to check out ViperFX to replace the musicfx as default sound effects (under settings and sound tab) (which contains Bluetooth MODs and Super Quality mode). Personally used this and works amazingly with Nexus 5.

I've also started using viper4Android in the High quality mode. It works really well with Music. But it doesn't do so well when making calls with earpiece. The voice starts to distort, cut and crack. So while using calls, I generally disable phone speaker in Viper4Android.
I just cleared cache. Will try to install Android 4.4.2 again. As I said before, all sounds are ok (music, phone speaker call ring, notification etc). It's just the earpiece volume which is really low. Are you able to make phone calls fine using the earpiece (without using a headset)?
Thanks.

Yes, but Viper audio is best with Super Audio (its not battery draining as claimed), its just as normal as high quality yet call quality is excellent. Try this as well. I've used headset now and again, no issues so see how the reinstall goes. But I would highly recommend the super quality very much. Try and see if you like. Also, if you have no objections, custom kernels have great sound support (such as faux sound) that can also fix and greatly improve sound/Bluetooth quality. Report when reflash done and methods you tried.

Thanks for the suggestions. I installed Viper4android with Super Audio. It definitely makes a difference while using the headset. It doesn't do much to the earpiece in call volume. That remains the same.
Other than that I've cleared the cache and wiped cache paritition. Is there any way to just reinstall 4.4.2 on top of 4.4.2 again?
My phone is stock recovery rooted with chainfire's autoroot. When 4.4.2 came, I just installed it using ADB and stock recovery (update using Zip). Can I do this again without losing any data? Or will i have to reflash system to stock and then start over?
Thanks.
You can just fastboot flash the system.img

Thank you. If I do this, I won't be losing any data and the phone will work as is?
So I need to extract system.img from the factory image of 4.4.2 from the google servers.
Then the ADB command is:
fastboot flash system system.img
Could you please confirm before I do this. Thanks.
There is a thread in the theme and apps section which has a mod for louder volume on all outputs... Worked brilliantly for me

[HELP]Viper4Android glitching

So i have a galaxy s6 with ultimate nougat custom rom ( here is a link forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/samsung-galaxy-s-6--s-6-edge-unified-development/rom-ultimate-nougat-s8-port-t3681259/amp/ ) from 6 months and i have installed viper4android since then, and the issue that i am having is that when viper is active using my in over the ear headphones razer electra v2 and turn up the volume over ~70% or to 100% the sound glitches for a split second and the music stops, and volume lowers automatically to ~20 and i have to unplug and plug the headphones again,
It does not matter what app am i using to listen to music, the headphones are brand new and work perfectly fine on any other device i tried them on, at the beginig there was no problem with them and since then i haven't installed or modified my phone in any way, normal in ear head phones work without problem on any volume, i tried with my roommate's steel series headphones that he is using daily and the same thing happens when i increase the volume more than ~70%. I tried to fix this by restarting my phone several times, removing viper and installing the newest version, and searched for any similar problems that someone else might have but no clue whatsoever. I am sorry if the topic is not for this section but im desperate.
[UPDATE] I have tried different settings and i disabled my sound alive app, and it didnt work, however i noticed that rhe problem ia not in the volume but its in the bass instead. I tried to listen songs that dont have that much bass in them with viper4android on and i had no issues, but when i play songs with bass in them, then the problem occurs. Playing songs with bass and viper4android off causes no problems.
could those headphones have built in volume limiters??
I dont know, but i doubt that they have because i tried other over the ear headphones, and the result is the same
Bump?
