uhm. not sure if its working or not to underclock for screen off profile
do we need a custom kernel?

I tried it as i bought it when I had a g1 and the sliders are grayed out.. guess we have to wait for a kernel. Shouldn't be long though LG released the source already..

yep... I have profiles set.
but if u can't put scaling on demand then how is it working.
sent from my G2X with no regrets
Correct me if I'm wrong. All scaling does is how the CPU scales itself(to a given formula depending on the profile) for example if using a conservative scale the CPU scales itself by 15mhz depending on the task so if your min is 218 it would go up or down by 15 until it reaches the maximum or min. Since no kernals are available yet for our device it will use the default scaling profile built in. my screen off profile is a Max 218 Min 218 with a priority of 100. Regardless of the scaling profile selected I am forcing the CPU to down clock to that set of perimeters

You are correct in that CPU scales itself based on the parameters Nvidia gave it. In this particular kernel there is only one governer by default (this is why you cannot alter the governor settings) and it's set to Performance Powersave. The scaling driver used according to the source code is tegra_cpufreq. I haven't dug far enough through the code to figure out what that means but it appears most frequencies are in intervals of 24mhz.
so i've been hesitant to use my setcpu. just wondering what everyone set their profiles to. lol
Overclock? Dualcore! WTF? lol its like ocing my mt4g to 2ghz... Cool to show off but really worth the risk? As well as side effects?

Does any One have the link to the free copy of the app on this site, maybe can try that before contacting the developer for support.

I would attempt three things before seeking any further escalation. First I would try running fix permissions using rom manager /cwm if that doesn't work delete the apk using root explorer and reinstall the software if that doesn't work create a nand backup of your device and start from scratch. Setcpu should work with the tegra2 plus the developer you reach out to regarding this will ask you to do this regardless.

Ok when you guys first start SetCpu (after clean install), what screen do you guys get? And what selection do you make?
When i first boot the phone I have a whole bunch of options to select on which device I use. The first one should be tegra2.
Didn't see this posted yet in the apps section, there is an app which helps in calibrating your battery. The app is located in the market and is created by an XDA member all credit goes to him. You must be rooted for this app to have an effect, I can vouche for this app as I have used both on the EVO and now on the G2X I have experienced great battery life after using this in conjunction with setcpu.

Out of curiosity, what are people using for the settings on SetCPU (ie max and max). Also, I noticed the "Scaling" option is grayed out on my G2x over my old Nexus One. Does the scaling option require a custom kernel I am guessing? Thanks.
Also, What settings are you guys using for Juicedefender?
I guess that a good reason to root.

Does it matter if the phone is on or off when you charge it to full the second time?

From what I can tell all this app does is delete the battery stats from the system which we can do from CWM on our own. Am I missing something?

Hi,
Does that mean it's running at 1.7 ghz even when it's asleep?
I would think that was like driving your car with the gas on full, even when it's parked up.
What do you think it will ultimately do to your phone?
Yeah I think that's what it means. Lol idk. But I don't know what it might do like you said it might be like driving your car fast non stop that might harm my phone I don't really know.

Hi,
Why don't you set the minimum to 386 and the maximum to 1.7.
That way, at least, it won't be permanently on.
See how it goes for a few days.
Not all phones will run at that speed.
If it becomes unstable, put it back to 1.5
Bad if you want long battery life, good if you want fast performance each time you use the phone.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
It's massive overkill.
You won't need that kind of CPU power except for a few things. An on demand governor will give you that power when you need it and save it when you don't.
I'd just like to know your opinions on it, does it save battery, performance? What app do you use? Btw, i know that there is no best app, i am just asking for an opinion so dont flame...lol
It works well for me. Seems to extend battery life. I use oc/uv beater or incredicontrol depending on the ROM.
You have to try and find the lowest voltage where the ROM is still stable under load.
Undervolting saves battery by the pure fact that your CPU gets less power dissipation. How much battery - depends on the setup, the CPU isn't the only power-hungry device in the system. If you use a lot of screen, by reading, for example - undervolting won't help you much. On the other hand, it'll help your standby time, it'll somewhat reduce the heating of the phone and save the battery this way, etc.
OC/UV beater for me, too.
I'll try out oc uv beater. Is it on Google play? Can't seem to find it, otherwise I'll just get it off of a rom or something

Yeah, found it, do you know if you can use it concurrently with setcpu?

No reason to. It was meant to control kernel options, using the clock and voltage scalers built into kernels, and not to set the options in runtime like SetCPU.

I'm curious as to what everyone's favorite app for changing kernel frequencies is. I figured I'd do a poll thread to find out so that I wouldn't have to ask in different threads from time to time. If you want you can also list why in the comments.

I just started using Voltage Control. It seems pretty good. I heard some good things about setCPU and some bad. That's why I started this thread. I wanna know the difference between all of them cuz there's so many lol. I'd say so. But I use to have an aria which was a 600MHz single core. I clocked it up to 806MHz. And that was considered fast 2 years ago!
With a dual core at 1.5GHz, I'd say it's nothing more than a battery drain if you aren't gaming. What I do however, is underclock my hox while the screen is off.

Using profiles? What do you underclock it to? Whenever I would do that I would set up a profile for screen off and use max 384 and min 192 or 384 but that may be a little extreme.

I agree though, that there is rarely a real "need" to overclock unless you feel the rom is slow or you are an avid gamer..
I use SetCPU because it was the first app I came across, but I've stuck with it for the small features. I like being able to set notifications when individual profiles become active (useful for games), and seeing the "Time in State" pie chart lets me know if my CPU is being fussy when idling. Sure, other apps may have more features, but there's literally no reason for me to look for a new one
Rom toolbox pro works fantastic!

Using No-Frills, not a whole lot of features but the most lightweight app I have found for handling OC, I like SetCPU but I would get wakelocks it seemed using profiles, so didn't add much benefit IMO.
