Help! Phone not rebooting - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I tried to install the kexec recovery and my phone is rebooting the whole time. It says installation aborted. What do I do?

Was able to flash the back to stock zip. Am I supposed to flash a rom first before I flash the kexec kernel?

How did u try to install the kexec recovery easiest way if your are rooted is download ez recovery from play store. Choose version 6 not not touch or twrp and flash recovery then reboot recovery u will then have successfully booted into a kexec recovery

So all I do is start ez recovery then cwm 6.x then reboot? Then I can flash a rom?

should be in clockworkmod/backup on either the internal storage or external sdcard depending on how you have it set up. The latter requires the card being formatted as FAT32 atm though.

Is there anyway I can switch it to external sd? It saved to my internal. Or will it save to external if I change it to fat32?

There should be a backup to external sdcard option in recovery that will work once the card is reformatted.

Sorry don't mean to be annoying, but if my card is fat32 it would have automatically saved there?

Not that I'm aware of. When you go into backup and recover in cwm there are multiple options. The standard backup or restore options go to internal. The ones labeled external go to the removable sdcard

And if it's not fat32 will it tell me it won't work?

Forgot the exact error but the first and second options for backup and restore are the only ones that work if it's exFAT.

Okay, also if I do backup from internal will that wipe everything on there if I wipe data? Kind of a stupid question but just want to make sure.

Part of the internal storage is labeled as sdcard and protected from the data wipe in cwm. Otherwise you'd be sol'd if you wiped data and then wanted to flash something.

Haha yeah just wanted to make sure. Thanks a lot for answering my questions!

Use ez recovery for gs3. It makes things really simple. Make sure to get cwm 6.1.0 for k exec or else you will not be able to boot. And all ways back up your current ROM for safe flashing

Flashing Odin back to stock keeps failing
I got stuck in a bootloop and have been trying to flash back to the factory image from samsung-updates.com and it keeps failing. Im trying to find a different stock image to see if a different file will work. Any help would be appreciated

On the guide vzw gs3 edition there one step 3 go to the RootzWiki link and there is a revert back to stock image.

The update.zip is something I always keep on my SD card.
From stock, just reinstall packages and then flash the rom. Also always keep a TiBu backup off your phone.
Restoring takes minutes - the most annoying part is just redoing your widgets

TWRP and the SGS3??

I just got to rooting my device VZW SGS3, and I decided to try out twrp. It seems you have to navigate to data, media, to see the contents of the internal sd card. I assume this is the way you have to do it even though it seems a bit odd.
Also, ive never had a device with internal sd card, when I wipe data, the sd card wont be wiped, right?
Nobody is using twrp and knows anything about this?

It's not being used because to install ROMs like AOKP and CM9 and CM10 you have to use the Kexec enabled CWM Recovery so nobody's cared about TWRP since it's useless pretty much.

Flashing a friends phone...

I still have cm9 and 10 with the gapps on my SD card, I have a friend who has red cwm, its possible to just pop my SD in and flash it real quick right?

Might have to transfer to internal storage...
1) But just flash like normal
2) Reboot (don't reboot recovery...you have to reboot system)
3)Will most likely get stuck at Samsung logo
4)Boot back into recovery
5)Reflash
That is the double flash method...
Sent from my HTC Holiday using Tapatalk 2
Yeah it wouldn't bring up my SD card in recovery, ended up just copying and pasting the files on a computer at work. He seemed very impressed with cm10 though.

Help with new rom

So I rooted, unlocked, backed up and all. I just want to get a new rom and I downloaded rom toolbox. Can I just hit let's say cyanogenmod and will it just download on my phone? Are there any other precautions I should worry about?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
I have to ask first, how did you unlock your bootloader? If you used EZ Unlock, which version did you use to unlock? Depending on how you answer determines what step you take next.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I used version 1.1
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Aight cool, as long as you backed up your IMEI using this method then you're free to flash whichever rom you want. Do you have a custom recovery installed, such as ClockWorkMod? If not, download EZ Recovery from the Play Store and select flash recovery for CWM 6.x. Once down reboot into recovery and perform a Nandroid backup.
If you have down all the above already, disregard it. I haven't used Rom Toolbox so I will give you my download process as if I'm dowloading the rom from xda.
For Cyanogenmod
1) Download CM10 as well as the respective GApps (google apps)
2) Boot into recovery:
-format data
-wipe cache
-Go into Advanced/Format Dalvik Cache
3) Now flash the rom, just select "Choose Zip from Sd Card), install the CM10 rom zip.
4) Install the GApps zip
5) boot into the rom and you should be good to go
I don't understand the point of backing up the imei.. Do I HAVE to do it??
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
If you don't...there's a chance you might lose it and the you won't have your mobile data on your phone. Plus its more of a pain in the ass to restore it than back it up. Do yourself a favor and back it up..it isn't that difficult and can save you a ton of time in the long run..and possibly future posts on how to recover it.

You don't have to, but some people have lost IMEI (hasn't happened to me personally) and if you don't have a backup you can end up in permanent roaming mode as I understand it.
The backup is easy to do (I did A and B, didn't bother with C) and buys you some peace of mind.

Yes, you absolutely have to back-up your IMEI before you flash ANYTHING. The reason the IMEI is important is basically because it ties your phone to the carrier's network. If your IMEI is lost, you will essentially have a brick in your possession (no calls, no data, nothing). Right now, if you look under Settings/About Device and scroll down to IMEI, you will see a set of numbers. If this is "lost" it will read either 0 or some other set of numbers and you won't like the restore process to recover and reconnect your phone to Verizon's network. The Comprehensive IMEI/EFS Backup steps take a minute to do in comparison to the headache and lengthy process it will take to restore your phone to working order.
I think you should do some reading there before you flash and understand why it's important. It's explained fairly well and clearly even for novices.
Also, here's a link to DroidStyle's Guide to everything important on the GSIII.

I'm guessing you didn't install a custom recovery yet.
I like TWRP - installation instructions HERE
Many others prefer CWM - installation instructions HERE
You need one or the other of these in order to flash the zip for step B.

[Q] Need big time help!

Guys,
I need some big time help! I just messed with the framework.apk file (was trying to get that annoying wifi notification off) and I basically crashed. I am rooted, running 4.1.1, on kt747 kernel. Everything was fine until I pushed the framework file back to my phone and it crashed, restarted, and gets stuck on the 4gLTE screen. I seriously need help. Also, I do have the stock framework file, but it is on my SD card. How can I make this right? I don't really know where to start. I tried doing a factory reset in CWM, and it didn't help. Also, I DID NOT have a nandroid. *kicks self hard in the shin*
Any suggestions?
The easiest way would be to simply flash a custom ROM in recovery. I guess you could also use a SD card reader to get the backup of framework, package it into a flashable zip and then flash that in recovery.
