Amazon Cloud Player Premium... Thoughts? - General Questions and Answers

Hey everyone. I've been using Amazon's Cloud Player service for a while now, and I've been thoroughly enjoying. However, I got an email yesterday stating how they're changing things up on their end, mainly with the introduction of a "premium" service that'll cost $25/year. All of the details can be seen by clicking the link below, but I'm not sure what to make of it. I'm not sure if this is going to benefit me or be a rip-off. Are there any other services like this that are FREE and works well? I refuse to use Google Music since you can only download their MP3s a total of three times, after that you're kind of SOL. With Amazon, you can download those MP3s as often as you want and best of all their DRM free!
So, what is everyone's thoughts about this change in their product/service? Read the full update HERE.

Google Music should allow you to download indefinitely if you use their download app to do it. But downloading from the web has the 3x limit. I've been using Audiogalaxy happily for a long time now. They're free, but it requires you to run a file on your home pc to host it. So if your pc is offline, you're not going to hear your music.
That said, the upside is that there's no uploading. They read the folders you select on your pc and even correct the id3 tags (where possible). Any new music added to these folders becomes instantly accessible from any browser. Works on Android and iOS.

What i think will backfire on them is the matching of uploaded files which upgrades to a 256k version. Basically for a set annual fee you can convert music downloaded via methods the music industry disapprove of to a legitimate version. Don't see Amazon getting increased sales due to this.
Nice idea i can't believe the music industry would agree to.

I'm giving the new 30 day trial a go. Been running the importing app for about 24 hours and so far around 4000 tracks imported. The app crashed twice so far so some of that time was wasted.I have over 25,000 tracks. So this will take over a week to get done. The tracks are available on the service as soon as they are imported. Still debating the $25.00 a year vs Google Music free but the allure of having my entire collection available on the go is very interesting.

Amazon is fleecing you, don't do it.

Look, Google provides the same service to store your collection for streaming anywhere and they don't charge you.
On top of everything else, this is kind a kick in the balls to everyone who bought a Kindle Fire. I am an avid user of the Cloud Player service with my Fire, but 99% of my 50,000 tracks were legitimately ripped from CDs I purchased (ironically 75% of the CDs through Amazon). I have painfully uploaded them all to my account with that huge POS uploader and now Amazon says pay up or go away. Well, go away I will. I got my Nexus 7 three weeks ago and I already pay for 200GB of storage with Google. Google Play Music is not as nice as Amazon Cloud Player, but I won't pay Amazon their blackmail. Amazon better get their act together on the streaming titles or I'm dumping Amazon Prime and the Fire will be rooted and running a Cyanogen mod shortly.
BTW, there is not really a bonus for signing up before your trial ends as they have advertised. They are just trying to get you hooked on their storage, because 1 year from now, the bill will show up and be $25 for the 50GB plus $25 for Cloud Player Premium.

I was frustrated with Amazon's decision too. Here is an option that worked for me because I don't have a large music collection.
When Box was offering the free 50GB of storage earlier this year if you installed the app on an Android device, I jumped on it. Turns out that the CloudAround music player app can login to Box and Dropbox, and stream the music!
So now my Amazon music library only contains music I bought from Amazon, not imported music from CDs etc.
Sent from my Kindle on Fire with Jelly Bean!

I thought there would be a lot more discussion regarding this topic, but guess I was wrong. Anyone jump on the $25/year premium deal? I'm starting to consider upgrading to it now.

Try "yxflash" from the market. It claims to be able to play WMV, DivX & Xvid... Haven't tried it myself though.
It's a $19.99 app that has to be purchased outside the market though... I don't like the way they're trying to conduct business.
Try meridian from the market. Haven't tested xvid yet but seems to play things otherwise built in on my mytouch couldn't haven't gotten that far.

Yea. They're kinda shady since they call it free then charge you to use it.
I'm guessing, if it does actually work, he doesn't want some rooted dirtbag downloading and refunding to add to the plethora of pirated apps. I haven't seen the app yet, but I figure if allows google checkout, it should be as safe as any other purchase via google checkout.
isn't there a samsung android phone with divx support builtin? I'm pretty sure I read that some where. Wonder if someone is working on some sort of port...
there are two android phones which play divx/xvid out of the box. one from samsung and the other from lg. getting the drivers/media player ported from either of these phones would be a big plus from me. i know i could convert media before hand, however i use my memory card as a "memory stick" which i bring in to work to watch on the PC during lunch. being able to play the same files on the phone when i'm on the bus/train would be so much easier.
try doubletwist if you're on Windows/Mac... no linux version yet
it will convert them to play on android by just dragging them over to the device...
I can confirm that yxflash works on my G1. I just download a divx movie (about 700 mb) and play it. Unfortunately the frame rate is about 15 f/s. Hope on Nexus One it will be much better.

btw, they still have xmas, you can get 50% off while using coupon code "xmas".
Still too expensive for my opinion, but hey, they come from the apple universum where all have too much money.
Now this post isnt going to be of much use because i couldnt find all the links i was after..... however
There were people requesting the samsung xvid/divx player be ported out back on the G1. Seems that one of XDA's members lbcoder has some decent incite on it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566591&highlight=divx
He posted
divx is just an implementation of iso mpeg4.
So...
to make it play you need to;
1) ensure that bitrate and resolution are low enough to be properly handled,
2) package it in a compatible container (mp4 works)
3) ensure that the AUDIO is encoded in a compatible manner (vorbis is great, but others also work, mp3, aac, etc.)
4) ensure that there is no crap in the file showing that it is divx because it simply doesn't know what divx *IS* -- make it read as mpeg4 -- this does NOT require reencoding the file, just using a SANE header.

I thought $10 wasn't bad. It plays awesome on the N1. It takes me 10 minuted to download a Divx movie, but 30 mins to convert. Over the course of several months, I would save a ton of time converting movies. I can download directly to the SD card via browser and play with yxflash.
Yes, having to purchase outside the market is shady, but I have contacted them several times with issues and they resolved them within one day.
Found the app via market at first glance i thought nah **** it because of the bad rating.. at second glance i actually took the time to read the comments, turns out most of the comments where bad/laggy playback, witch was partly due to Magic / Heros hardware, and the resizing requirements..
ive installed the trial, and it plays beautifully.. although sometimes i do get some lines across the screen, but they are hard to notice...
Price is still a bit high thou! :/ im gonna give it a month or two to see if a cheaper alternative shows up, and hopefully by that time Google will have opened up the market in Denmark.
used yxflash to play an hd copy of ice age 3 in xvid, ran nearly perfect, every so often there is some frame skip

Dodiom

I am curious to know if anyone has tried Dodiom and what their experience was like. Dodiom allows you to stream your music library from your computer to your phone. I found others, but they require you to login on your mobile browser to stream the music. Dodium uses an app. I have only begun to use it. Im waiting for my library to finish scanning. They offer a free version which i am using and a .99$ a month version (10 for whole year). You get more stuff with a paid membership, but i want to try it out first. I have been looking for a way to do this for a while and so i am hoping it works well.
Perhaps someone knows of better software/method of doing this?
EDIT: Okay. So it works rather well so far. I mentioned i had the free version. With this, you can only stream a max of 5 songs. Paid account gets you unlimited! The 5 songs that the program seemingly just chooses at random stream fine. I am actually liking this and may just get a membership after all. You can browse your music by genre, artist, album, or song which is nice too

Google Music on the T-Bolt

I got my Google Music invite today. I uploaded around 14 GB of music. This was around 2500 songs. It looks like Google limits the number of songs, not the storage. You can upload 20,000 songs.
Thoughts:
The "app" on my PC is kind of cool. Just go to music.google.com from your browser and start listening.
The Google Music app for Android on the T-bolt works well. I created a quick playlist on my PC and it was available on the T-bolt instantly. The app is fast and stable.
When playing music with the Android phone app, it will actually download and cache about 5 songs.
My biggest thought is that Google must be a little vexed about Verizon's new policy about charging for data. This will discourage users to store their music data in the cloud if Verizon is going to start the meter running every time you want to listen to music. Google's whole philosophy is to use the network, not local storage.
ever since last update... i keep getting FC on (process com.google.android.music)
suckkk
I have been using GMusic for a bit now. I use it in a different fashion than most people.
I only upload the songs I will use in a current play list. Total is around 20-30 sonds at a time. I delete songs I no longer listen to since the orig copy is on my computer.
I find this make the service very usable for the gym, car, etc. Dealing with thousands of songs would drive me nutz.
I have about 13.7k songs for my google music and its pretty awesome. The app does have some issues such as not going to the next song in the playlist but its all minor compared to what it is capable of.
I agree with the crashes though. I havent been able to get it to work on 3g/4g with bamf 2.1 remix or gingertheory 4.3
Trying now with bamf 2.1 nte.
Theres a thread here regarding the crashes: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134027
Bummer about the crashes. I am running CM7 and I have not had any yet. Hopefully it stays that way.
The only thing I dont like about the cloud is,read the fine print, everything you upload becomes theirs even if you delete it they keep a copy of it.why?
Posted from my Nokia V560
been using it for a couple weeks my self love it so far cant wait to see where google takes it in the future. Also who care if they keep a song i upload even after deletion it is just music.
Well lets see, copyright laws and its not only for music it pertains to anything on any cloud,me I prefer to keep my stuff local, doesnt bother me one bit, that way its only me that has access.

Dont know about you but i could care less if google kept mp3 files i uploaded and did something with them. they would be the one breaking copyright laws so thats their problem. I personally dont upload anything other than music to cloud services like "google Music " like this thread is talking about not cloud storage or dropbox. but to each their own.
I have google music but am switching to amazon cloud.
Reason being my wife and I have separate gmail accounts and so it requires 2 google music accounts. Amazon lets whoever has your email and password access your music.
I'm pretty happy with it. Would love to Bluetooth control in the future. When using BT headsets, the stock music app only works.

Best Cloud Service?

So I have a 4S atm and am using icloud, its awesome that it backs up your whole phone and you can restore so easily, but 5gb's is kinda low and you cant store your music on icloud unless its purchased from itunes, you can put your own tracks but you need to pay for itunes match which is $25 a year+more storage which starts at $20 for only $10 gbs. Kinda pricey.
Then we have google which is confusing to me, how many gbs for google music? Do you have to pay eventually for google music? Then you have gmail, then you have picasa for photos, wish it was all integrated....
Then there is skydrive which offers 25gb free and no upgrade options, the good thing about it is that its all integrated and you can store any file in that 25gb and play, use, download anytime on a WP7 device or use on your iphone with the client. Sounds good!
Finally we have dropbox, I really like the idea of you making a folder on your pc, then putting stuff in their and it syncs across all your devices but does your computer have to be on at home? Also 2gb free is measly and the next upgrade is 50gb for 100$ a year, a lot of money....
So which do you use and think is the best? Im planning on buying the htc one x and apparently it brings 25gb of dropbox free but eventually it expires which sucks.
I use DropBox exclusively and have gotten up to 23GB of space so far. Did this by doing their free upgrades and referrals using temp emails
Google been on cloud since the beginning. Your phone is backed up with Gmail account, this includes contacts and apps.
Google music allows you to upload 20000 of your own music in addition to music you purchase from the Google play store. Its free!
For pictures I have them backed up on Google+. Its free.
My misc stuff on Google drive. 5gb free.
This is how I am currently using Google's cloud services.

I believe you're able to store up to 25000 songs on google regardless of size and if you buy music from them, it won't be count toward your current songs limit

Prefer Dropbox, good web and pc app
storage to 18GB for free +
Google Music is 20,000 songs based on a certain size per song, so if you use bigger songs you will have less space.
I use them all!!!
Dropbox, Ubuntu One, Google drive and Google Music. Why not?

How can I get the 18gb? Easy?
you have to invite a friends to DrobBox, one friend is 500MB+ up to 16GB for free.
I use google and dropbox to get the most out of there services. As stated before Google lets you upload 20,000 songs for free but if you really need to you can pay an additional fee and get more space. Dropbox increases your space based on referrals or if you prefer you can just pay for an increase also.
Dropbox hands down. It's the only one with Linux support. Never had any problem. A little pricey, but I don't expect the best to be less.

SkyDrive FTW
I love the way Windows Phone works with SkyDrive. I can create a Excel file in my desktop, save on SkyDrive, edit in the build in app in the phone or even in the WebApp in the browser.
For me Google Drive is not a complete tool. I can't edit Excel files in Desktop and Web. The one I create in Web only can be change in web and created in desktop only can be view on the web. You can't edit.
i use sky drive and box

How to Download Google access music and thoughts!

So you may have Google access music as many of us do. Wouldn't it be great to be able to download Google access music in 320 KBS straight to your computer and not have any complications... If only if only...
But wait! Its possible!
All you need it Google access and you're good to go. Simply go onto your computer, and go to a website called songspout.com
There you will download the application and run it. Stream a Google access track and look at the bottom of the screen. It may take about 10 seconds or so but you may see a little Download looking button where you can download the track you are currently steaming. After that, go to your music and there it is! And if you don't believe its in 320 KBS then just right click on it, properties, details and there ya go. This is wonderful.
Unfortunately, you can only download 5 songs at a time before you're prompted to buy it for 9.99. What are peoples thoughts on this?? Please try it first before giving your thoughts.
Why?
Forgive me if I sound stupid, but since Google Play offers the ability to download any of the songs that you previously uploaded to Google Play, as well as any song you purchased from Google Play, isn't this unnecessary?

Well actually, the google music app only stores a cache of a song. This allows you to do as you well with it such as put it on iTunes for use with an iPhone or iPod or the sort. Or, you can reupload it to google play. What I do is upload it to iTunes and then use winamp to sync it to my device's external SD card where I can play my music in whatever music app of my choice and not just the Google music app. Basically, for those who don't see a benefit to this, you are paying a monthly service plus a one time 9.99 fee for unlimited legal music downloads.

Your missing the point, this software allows you to permanently download (at 320kbps) unlimited music from google's enormous 20mil+ song library. Songs that you don't currently have in your library (purchased or otherwise), but only if you have a current all access subscription. This software is a no-brainer as you get unlimited high quality music.
Anyone else tried this out yet? found a YouTube of this app, the elevator music is pretty lame but it shows the functionality none the less.

Song Spout Support is GONE
I just purchased Song Spout yesterday. It worked for 24 hours and then asked me to purchase again. I have tried to contact the developer at his support email and his billing email and have received a bounce back on each address. I have also tried to contact his billing web page but it just times out. I think song spout is dead. I wouldn't recommend anyone spending the money unless you can contact the developer first. Looks to me like he closed shop. I hope we get some feedback from the developer or get an alternative solution.
yes, today it isn't working, that's correct. Also the Website is somehow not working properly (php).
I have also contacted them earlier this morning, no reply yet. But to me the email did not bounce!
I contacted them twice earlier already, because of an issue that some songs are not being downloaded, but never got a reply. So the support is NOT existant.
Anyway, maybe it's just a temporary issue, and they have just to restart their webserver and database, and it will work again then. Let's hope so.
I am wondering how that application works, it seems that the Google Play Music stream is done using flash, and somehow that Soungspout managed to save it removing the DRM.
Song Spout Up and Running
Song Spout is back up and running. I received an email from support that there were server issues. I have tested it this morning and all is well. This is great software and I am really glad it is back online.
I use the software regularly and works great. I am in the US. I know sometimes there are country restrictions so anyone outside of the US that are looking for specific tracks only available here, let me know.
Songspout support
I bought Song spout in Oct 2013. It worked great until about 2-3 weeks ago. Now I can't download most songs.
Emailed support, but my emails are returning error messages - the developer may be MIA.
It wasn't a ton of money, but I'm still disappointed that we can't get basic support after such a recent purchase.
Anybody know how to reach the developer?

Works great!
Bought today, works perfectly. Although you have to keep an eye on it as it can get stuck on some songs.

Well, it's not working "perfectly" if it gets stuck on some songs.
But I agree it still works pretty well most of the time.
The getting stuck part, though, is an issue I would have liked some feedback on from the developer.
Meanwhile, I've been using MusicMate on my android. It is a major update to the old Cloud Music Importer, and works very well. Doesn't get stuck. Also costs less than Song Spout. I import those files straight into Audipo so I can slow down and loop portions for guitar practice.
Still, wondering the Song Spout developer is still around and supporting the product. I feel that as long as he's taking the money, he ought to reply to support emails.
Yeah I couldn't get any reply from the developer, I only found I had this sticking problem when I was trying to download non all access files.
Just limiting it to songs added from all access it worked great. Didn't know about Music Mate that works great aswell.

Does Music Mate allow you to download songs from the all access catalog like Song Spout? Or does it just grab the songs that are in your library? I would check it out but my acer is acting foolish atm.
