Not sure if people have noticed this and I couldnt find anything on search related to this but,
the area below the display on the one x(mine's att) is full touch enabled and gesture capable(?)
I noticed this when I was swiping through the home screens and my thumb went below the display but it maintained full response to the touch. Then while swiping i went completely below the display and was swiping with my finger well below the display, basically having no direct contact to the screen and swiping back and fourth above where the capacitive buttons are. It also does this in other apps like maps, browser, etc, where ever touch gestures are made.
Im guessing maybe there are developer api's to this area of the screen, so it can be used as an additional way to interact with the phone, ala bb playbook.
Don't think there are any APIs out there. I think I saw this somewhere else on the thread and they were saying that you'd need a custom kernel to use it?? But yeah they have it there because it's cheaper to share the digitiser for the capacitive buttons. I know there was a ROM for ICS that let you swipe the bottom to unlock.....

Yeah, some of us knew this. Cm9 used it to put an invisible menu button to the right of the recent app button. I didn't much care for the option, but it still was cool.

Doesn't work for me

Yep, I know this as well.
There is something called "Sweep2Wake" which when you swipe across the capacitive buttons, it wakes/puts the device to sleep. Pretty nifty if we can get that implemented via kernel.
Yea MIUI v4 did the menu key next to the recent apps key thing. I realized this 4 hours after flashing the ROM lmao

I like the concept. I like that you are able to quickly get an overview of messages, calendar, calls and you can adjust was you like it. It would be better if it had facebook, twitter intergration as part of all the other info panels also.
The only issue here I see is that the whole notion of android is the widgets...which I like. I'll keep it on for awhile to test it out. Maybe it will grow on me.
It's basically windows mobile homescreen.
I agree with archboy, great concept, but still missing some customization features. The ability to move an item from the top half to the bottom half is needed. This would be great if it could also be used as a fullscreen widget, so that I could still use the rest of my screens.
I wish this was a lock screen.
IMO, this information oriented approach instead of the action/application oriented approach is much better in terms of productivity.
The only drawback of this application? I cannot access to some widgets/actions and I do really want to be able to do things like enable wireless, 3g, change brightness... without the pain of going through the setup menus.
A good solution to this problem would be a light weight home screen app which could be launched from slide screen and load the the 4 or 5 widgets I need. I've tried aHomeMini but it forcecloses, any suggestions?
@iVisionX01: yeah, having it as a lock screen is also great but, again, I won't need the full featured home app.

2nd that
Tried it for a couple of hours, but missing customizability and getting settings too far out of reach made me uninstall quickly.
I wish it was a widget!
Try QuickDesk or PowerStrip with this, working great for me, very pleasing to the eye..
wow i cant believe i missed this home screen
should be perfect with QuickDesk and PowerStrip
i dont get it??? Whats it suppose to do??
It's a shame FroYo won't let you change default launcher programatically any more (you have to do it through the settings). I would love to have had Tasker set this is default when I was at work, then LauncherPro the rest of the time
Hey guys, i got an idea for an interested dev. I dont have a android phone yet, but I've been lurkin around here for a while and have learned a lot from all you guys.
Now, i for one know people who go through others phones. Needless to say, it is annoying. I have an idea to con these guys out of there snooping.
Its a lock screen app that implicates both that we know already, the standard bar swiping one

and the combo one
I was thinking maybe we could get an app that let you swipe the bar, like if it was going to open it, but then act like if nothing happened. To actually unlock it, you would put the combo in invisibly, either by swiping through specific sectors, as if the screen were a grid.
This is my idea to you devs for a safer phone.
I like this idea. Would be a good April fools trick too.

hahaaha, i know right. just hope a dev is willing to do it.
Can't imagine it would be that hard since both items are already built.

Hmm well on cyanogenmod you can just hide the "dots" on the Pattern-lock. I use it currently. My current background is black, so that's why it's all black. It's just an extra security measure. Anyone without an android phone wouldn't really know what to do considering it doesn't even show the "Incorrect pattern" message (which you can turn on or off).
Note that this is the normal pattern lock with just everything hidden (except for the cyanogenmod message at the top, which can be turned off/changed to something else.) There's no slide-unlock then pattern-unlock, just pattern-unlock.

I found something that's...well not very useful but for some with bad eye vision very useful.
Tap on your screen fast like five times and see what happens. Your screen in large like you hold it under a magnifying glass. Your screen is now with blue line. Also works in any browser.

Not working here...maybe you activated a special development feature ?
It is probably something in accessibility

Yep, just verified that and it's "magnification gestures" in Accessibility. Triple tap activates magnification and works for everything but the keyboard and the navigation bar.

You're right. This accessibility feature is also available in TW stock ROM with triple tap. However, Air View cannot be activated with it and Samsung tells that it might slow the phone.
It is also available on my s3 running 4.2.2 leaked ME7 rom. Most probably it is a 4.2.2 feature across all devices running on it. Not only the G Edition.

Originally, I was planning on calling the little guy "Gyffy, GYF's sidekick." But then, I though "Oh, wait."
Of course I am still working on my other launcher but in my quest for ever faster access to anything on my phone, I realized that this may be another step forward, albeit with fewer features.
Warning: Alpha version.
No, it will not damage your phone, but it's still early in the dev process so, it is expected to break.
How do I use it?
In a nutshell: see that tiny blue square in the screenshots? Yes, this guy. Just double-tap it to open SK. Then, tap one or more letters.
Oh, and you can move that square wherever you want: long-press, your device vibrates; drag it around.
Limitations
Just about anything you can think of! Since it's such a young project, it lacks:
- preferences
- proper spelling
- resiliency
- initialization speed
- a consistent way to dismiss the launcher window; just tap in the text field or some open space underneath it
Fun yet useless features
- Right now, touching an app launches it; sliding over it reveals a menu for alternate actions but it doesn't offer any yet
- You can swipe left on the keyboard to delete letters; it's highly unreliable
Mandatory Download Link
Screenies
Yes, these were taken using the Genymotion simulator. How observant of you!

Oh, no. I can think of a lot of things still missing e.g. shortcuts.
You should see updates very soon.

as I opposed to having a magic blue square on your screen, why not have it activated with a dragging of your finger from the edge of a section of the screen? A lot of apps do this and it's pretty easy to use lol.

Hi All
My Lcd screen is operating itself and typing itself in keyboard, its opening apps on itself.
This is happening just from yesterday,I didn't drop phone or no physical damage also.
I tried to reset the phone also, but its no use.
Does it happened to anyone here...please let me know what should be done

But seriously, something is wrong. Do you know how touchscreens work? If you don't look it up. You may be able to hypothesize a reason why.

hi all
my htc one x touchscreen is not working at bottom....just above the
touch buttons, touch buttons working perfectly....
and touch screen above 2cms of touch buttons is fine...
previously my touch screen was typing something itself in keyboard n now
it stopped n finally touch screen not working only above touch buttons(
2 cms only, remaing screen is fine )
is this hardware problem...do i need to replace touch screen.
i have done reset, still no use, it seems like hardware prblm...
please give solution to this
Yes I would go ahead and replace the screen. Just to forewarn you but the touchscreen and LCD are bonded together using some type of adhesive and most everyone who has tried to separate the two end of cracking the LCD. The solution to this as well as your problem would be to buy the Touchscreen and LCD already bonded together as a whole unit. I think I have seen units on eBay and alibaba for somewhere in the 80-100$ range.
No amount of resetting/reflashing your phone will cure a hardware problem.
