Constantly getting "shell has been granted superuser permissions" notification
Well, as the title says... Sometimes this notification starts to flash, it doesn't stop. I have to reboot to make it stop. The same problem has been reported on the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy S III.
I'm using a Nexus S i9023 with stock Jelly Bean and SU 3.2 RC.
Example of other threads: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1755738 & http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1783292 & http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1783642

I have the Galaxy Note and found this thread. I do have Better Battery Stats installed...
Thanks,
Chuck

I believe it has something to do with that app or how that app is interacting with superuser.
I installed it the other day and that issue came up. Removed it and it went away. The cause of i dont know. I would take a look in the BBS thread and see if there are reports of it. If not make on

i never had any battery stats app, but it happened to me as well, it fixes after a reboot

check out all application that requires root
install a logcat app

I didn't install or update an app that requires root and I don't have better battery stats. It just started after I installed Jelly Bean and reflashed the latest su.

i can confirm none of the root requiring third party apps caused the problem

For me the culprit was 'Root Browser Lite'. Froze it with Titanium Backup and problem solved.

It happened again. Now with stable superuser 3.1.3 and still with Android 4.1.1. I added the logcat as an attachment.
You can see on the screenshot that it's repeating the same thing. It goes really fast so I can't scroll back to where it started.

Do you see anything interesting in the superuser log? For me it just showed shell repeatedly, but you never know. I pinned it down to a particular app more because it was something I hadn't installed before though!

Update superuser su binary, wipe its data. Try now. If not working you can reboot and wipe cache and fix permissions. That all will definetly do the trick.

I also get this at least once a day. Very annoying. Above measures didn't help for me. Superuser log shows only repeated shell entries.
And no battery stats apps installed, neither is Root Browser.

this was just happening to me, i rebooted my GNex, i don't have the S but same problem. reboot seemed to fix it

I don't have droid wall and the suggested fix didn't work. Please, stop telling me to uninstall apps, I also have this problem before I even install any app. There are tens of people having this problem. It's clearly a bug: superuser doesn't seem to be 100% compatible with Jelly Bean and chainsdd doesn't reply to my tweets. I'll try supersu when I have some spare time, but if that doesn't work either we're kinda stuck here.

troubleshooting:
check su to see if permission granted. in retrospect, su prolly isnt the issue; i ran cm on a nonrooted hero and it started and just disappeared. if its stuck at "clearing" then its an internal issue.
fresh wipe and reinstall of your current rom. its VERY possible your rom is the issue.
reinstall of cm
fyi, the biggest difference between the older build and the latest is the power clear (right?) maybe the older version is all you need. keep in mind the older version still clears all the basics in every other build. most cm updates are modre apps added to the list, and lgtely the power clear. cant remember how long ago the widget was released
works for me ... i think it says clear cache finish ... all roms it worked but i think i was on fresh and it sayd 1mb freed idk if i was using a diff one or not

Cause of random reboots (P6210)?

I have been reporting the "random reboot during standby" problem in the following thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386785
However, the thread was mainly about Screen of Death, and I have not experienced any SOD at all, I think it is better to start a new thread.
Here's the details - on Monday afternoon I purchased my P6210 (brand new, sealed). Started setting it up Monday evening. On Tuesday morning I rooted it, and in the afternoon applied the permission hack to allow writing on external SD.
Wednesday morning, I noticed the first random reboot during standby (on AC) as it woke me up. During the day, the reboot happened at least 3 more times (either on AC or battery).
In the afternoon (still Wednesday), I did a security wipe, and stayed with mainly stock apps. I only installed K-9, a file explorer and few other apps that did not require root as I Superuser was not installed. However, it remained rooted, and the SD write permission mod was not removed by security wipe.
Regardless of the wipe, reboots continued for at least 3 more times by Thursday morning. This is when I returned it to the store for an exchange.
=======
Now unit #2 - no rooting, no permission mod.
I did reinstalled all the apps I had as before, with the exception of the ones requiring root.
The result? Not a single random reboot in the last 1.5 day.
****************
The question is, what actually caused the problem. I see three possibilities:
- faulty hardware in the first unit;
- the rooting; or
- the permission mod. (Note: I didn't recall seeing the reboot until Day 3, after I did the mods)
Unfortunately, I don't know what was actually involved in the rooting, nor the permission mod. Are there any remote possibilities that they could cause the random reboot?
I spoke too soon, just had my 1st random reboot on the new unit. It still hasn't been rooted or modded, only running legit apps downloaded from Play Store. So I guess whatever causing the reboot happens out of the box...
[Update] After having two random reboots in one afternoon, I deleted the last couple apps I installed. It has been reboot-free in the last 2 days!!
One of these apps that I deleted was Dell Voice (may be it doesn't play well with my wifi only tab).

Just to clarify, I haven't rooted my tab to date. In my case, I definitely have the reboot issue without root. In your case, would it be the apps you installed after you rooted, rather than just the rooting itself?

Google goggles. I'm guessing it wasn't the cause of problem.
I don't really know what caused it to reboot but it has'nt done it since i went back to stock. I don't think it was the apps cuz the only other app that I dont have on my tab now ,when it was rooted is the app that changes the screen density [ I don't remember what it was called]... I also used titanium backup when I had it rooted but I know its not that app cuz I still have it installed
Sent from my GT-P6210 using xda premium
It's probably irrelevant, but I found that if I increased the screen density to 180dpi (probably anything over 160?) using the DPI Changer Utility app, then the tablet would boot to the homescreen and then reboot, over and over.

I also concern that rooting may contribute to the random reboot. I wouldn't mind to experiment it, but I don't know how to completely remove root if I need to.
FYI, I have the Canadian LB2 firmware, and it is not available online for me to flash it to the tablet using Odin.
Could you share with me how you did the unrooting (reverting to stock ROM)?
Well to throw a wrench into the mix I have my Tab Plus rooted and I don't get random reboots on LA3 firmware.

P6200 or P6210?
It seems to crash when apps cannot access the network during standby, and that's why some are fixing the issue by installing the Auto Airport Mode app.
Hence, having 3G or not may make a difference.
I have a 6210 so no 3G for me.

Thanks, I'll definitely try rooting, as soon as I learn how to unroot first.
PS. Do you have Titanium Backup, or did you change the display density? (These are the other suspects that could cause the reboots in wolverine's case)
I use rom toolbox for freezing apps and other things so no I don't have titanium backup.
I have changed the density before (also using rom toolbox) and didn't like the results and went back. So for me it is still at the normal 160.
I hope I am being of some help here!

When I did the update to LA3 it unrooted mine but this should work just as well:
1. Download a file explorer, allow root acess, mount as r/w
2. Go to system/bin
3. Find SU file and delete it
4. Reboot
I didn't do it this way but it should work, do it at your own risk. I am not responsible if something happens to your tablet

I too, prefer to unroot by flashing a factory image with Odin. The problem is, I have a Canadian P6210 (w/o IR port) with LB2. Until LB2 factory image is released (or something newer), I don't think I'll root my tab. It has been running rock-solid without any reboot for the last few days, I don't want to risk losing it by rooting.
Update - still not rooted and running only apps installed from Play store, it suffers from random reboots. Sometimes once or twice in one days, other times no problem in days. No obvious patterns noted.
By the way, also have one SOD in about 2 weeks that I own this tab
A quick Google search shows that this problem is reported on many models of galaxy tabs (7.7, 10.1, ...)
I've had my 6210 for a month without issue then it stared sod and reboot with great frequency. I read about a few solutions but I couldn't understand why it would start happening without me making setup changes (unless hardware failed or a write failure corrupted something). I decided to reboot in recovery to clear the cache. Its been two days without a problem. I have no idea how long it will last but it's working for now...

I'm on LA3 as well, I've never experienced this problem. Maybe there is some common denominator here, like manufacture date etc.

[Q] Htc Evo 4G LTE Jellybean crashing super su

Hello all i just did the 3.15.651.16 update from viper boy and everything was good until i tried to update Su binary in Supersu.. it crashes the phone completely off and restarts every time.. i have tried updating busybox with no success.. anyone have any ideas on what this could be? I have done a full wipe x3 and a few rom installs and all do the same thing.. thanks in advance!
I'm actually getting the same thing. Not sure why but I tried with SuperSU and Superuser and it happened with both. I'm wondering if this is HTC's doing.....
Oh also, you might want to move this to the Evo forum because I only found this from Google and wouldn't have browsed this section of XDA for this issue.

Yeah I know i posted wrong lol.. I also noticed that whatever you do in /system say edit the build.prop always resets at boot as if the file system is a read only.. also can you see if your Navigation crashed.. youd have to be in a car moving but mine crashes bad
Sure I can check. I also noticed that anytime Titanium Backup runs a batch backup job it causes the phone to restart almost immediately
I'm really surprised this isn't all over the place. We can't be the only ones having this issue....

Give the MeanBean ROM by mikeyxda a try! Its great and reliable, worst case if you perform a hard reset flash MeanBean you can go back to your other ROM if you don't like it. At least will let you know if the issues lies in your existing ROM or not. You may even be able to perform a dirty flash back to your present ROM and that could retain the SuperSu from MeanBean.. Hope this helps.
If it did help feel free to hit my thanks button!!
I forgot to check but now when I do it, the phone doesn't restart--it now just says it failed to install the binaries. The phone is still rooted but I guess I can't use advanced features. I still think there's an issue in the /system directory because I can't get Titanium Backup to remove system apps (apps integrated into the ROM).

[Q] root apps freeze when granted root

whenever i try to load an app that requires root (95% of the apps ive tried) it freezes right when its granted. when i start titanium backup, the first screen where it says "asking for root rights..." just stays there even after it says it was granted. other apps that are granted root immediately just stay at a black screen. with lucky patcher, i can use it up to the point of where i apply changes (where root is required) but then it just keeps loading non-stop. the superuser app says they where all granted in the log, and there are no problems i know of there, but whenever root is granted to an app, that app freezes. (im not too good/experience with this) i couldnt find anything anywhere else that has this exact problem. (ps. i dont have a SIM card in yet, i use *#83786633 to get past setup screen on boot, if that means anything to this)
Hmm... Reboot? Reflash SuperSU/Superuser (depending on what setup you're using)?

i have since fixed (kinda) this problem, i used odin and flashed lazarous kernel and tweaked 3.2. it didnt really "fix" it but got rid of the problem. but before, i had tried to use supersu, (i was on the regular superuser) but that too froze when it was granted root to update the binary.
regular superuser binary was up-to-date

Have you tried going in Security/notification access and allowing gear manager ? I don't have lollipop but I just thought about this...
Yes, in the lollipop rom I'm using the notification access is under sounds and notifications, and it's enabled, until I reboot. Then it loses access.

Well you seem to know what you are talking about so I would say that you ROM seems not to be compatible with the G2, I have no formal knowledge though
I'm beginning to suspect as much. I'll flash another version of LL at home later and see if it's the rom I'm using at the moment (which is giving me umpteen reboots and seems to act like a thermal power plant lol)
*update* flashed different kernel and even though the permission on reboot still occurs, I now get notifications, where as before I didn't,and my phone is cool. I'll post my findings when I flash a new rom.
Same issue here.
I9505 using leaked lollipop. Original Gear running latest OTA Tizen.
Disconnect reconnect and turning off blyeooth does not trigger the issues but full reboot does.
Have tried latest Gear Manager APK leaked from S6 but did not fix.
Hoping for fix soon as its very annoying
Yep, Im pretty much on the same boat as you, latest gear OTA, using latest lollipop leak also, with exactly the same gear manager and issue. I'll certainly keep at it and post a solution, if I find one, here.
