It is cumbersome enough to have to remove the device from its case everytime you want to view the homescreen to check the time, appointments; etc. WORST is if you have the phone locked with a password. You have to input the pin when you want to view the homescreen. Why cant this feature be similar to the smartphone where the homescreen is viewable without having to input the pin.
Any solution to this please? Otherwise my Touch Pro is up for sale. It came with a two-year warrantee.
BTW does this effect all PDA phones?
Thanks
Yea, you can disable locking and buy case that shows TP screen.

Thanks for the suggestions but I cant afford not to lock the device for security reasons.
Dont you have clock visible at task bar upper right corner, even with device locked?
I do.
Your case problem should be easy to fix.

I cant see any way you could check all your stuff with device lock on. Thats basicly it's idea, not to let any random phone dangler to see your stuff.

Well at least on my Tornado Smartphone I can view information that is quite useful in my day to day life. Not to check but just view what's on the home screen.
Anyway never mind. Its gonna be gone once Xperia is out since this is aint the only issue I am facing.

I doubt the Xperia will be any different. This is just how WM operates, and I don't think the Xperia "panels" interface will change that.
You can look for software that locks your device only when it's lost or stolen, or other 3rd party locking programs that might allow you to display certain information. But frankly I agree; if the premise of locking a device is to prevent others from seeing your information, then when the device is locked, your information shouldn't be displayed.
What about Throttlelock from www.throttlelauncher.com?
It's a pattern-based screen lock software that's quite useful and can be unlocked very quickly with the swipe of your finger in a designated pattern of your choice. Just hit the power button to turn the screen off which relocks it.
It's transparent enough to see through to your home screen and view your appointments and the time. Been using this on my Tilt and I love it! Hope this helps...

Have you ever seen the homescreen of any HTC Smartphone while it is locked??
I dont have to unlock to see if there is emails, or appointments due.. and the time..
It is not enough for you to use standard device lock in WM,that locks only the buttons? It is available via todayscreen plugin(or also some other ways) which you can unlock by tap on left softkey and somewhere middle-right button afterwards. So it works as in regular phones with keyboard. That will unlock everything and anyone can have access to your data, therefore the question about enough. Or do you need to protect your data, but with visible homescreen?

I want to protect data and at the same time have the homescreen easily visible. This will allow me to check whether there is new email, check my appointments, as well as the time and day. Just like in my tornado I have everything at a glance without having to go through the login. why was it possible in smartphone?
i don't think that's ever been possible as it defeats the purpose of having a device lock. the device lock protects anyone from viewing what's on your device which is the pda part and the simlock prevents ppl from using your device as the phone part.
being able to view the home screen while the device is "locked" defeats the purpose of a lock as that home screen can contain confidential info.

WM Standard and WM Pro are just different like that. I am sure you can find a third party locking utility that does what you want, but the default is like this.
illi, it seems we meet here too, hello .
I had in plan to buy a touch pro too BUT I've done some research (thanx to xda!) and found out that this super-nice pocketpc with superb features (in paper) has a lot of bugs.
I've started a topic with common problemes.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426585
Note: there are just some of the found bugs!
So right now I will stick to my beloved HTC Tornado till the problems will be fixed.
Anyway, the described scenario is not a touch pro issue, it's just the ppc..
I don't have a Touch Pro, but on my I-Mate I use an app called 'ThrottleLock', and made my own skin with the background and buttons almost transparent so today screen is still visible. I can provide my mods if you like.
It's a much cooler way of unlocking than using a pin (like Google Android) and runs on startup. It won't come back if the device is hard-reset though, but then all your data would be gone anyway by that point.

Have you checked out the SonyEricsson MBW-150 bluetooth watch? With moneytoo's app smartWatchM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362218 you can keep your phone silent, tucked away, and still get vibrating alerts on your wrist of incoming mails, the mail title, who sent it, stopwatch, control your music player, rss-feeds, accept or reject incoming calls, know who's calling, and afaik you can turn on and off the screen of your device remotely (I believe it requires xtra software on your device), tasks info is available on your watch etc etc. Needless to say you get time and date as well, synced to your device. Check it out!
the other option would be (if you have a bluetooth headset) get microsoft voice command, and when u initiate (hopefully this can be done with the lock on) just ask it "what time is it" and it will tell u.
Ok... well I got a Samsung Focus. This is my first smartphone coming from a Pantech Pursuit, a (?) Quickfire, and an LG shine. It's absolutely amazing how fun and how great this thing is compared to those phones (although its a bit odd that some of those were more feature rich than this).
Anyway.. I have a few questions probably mostly relating to the WP7 software. If anyone can answer all or some of these.. that'd be great.
1. Not sure I full understand the start button thing. So, yes, it takes me back to the home screen. But is my previous app or page still running? For example if I'm playing a game, hit the home screen, go into another game, hit the home screen... are both of those games still running and slowing down my phone? Is it best to hit the start button when I want to end something, or is it best to hit the back button until I'm home?
2. Picture messaging. I have unlimited texts and pics with ATT. I also have data off since I'm on a limited data plan. However, it won't let me send picture messages with data off. Does it use the data connection to send pictures, but in this specific case it charges it as a picture message (free) rather than data usage?
3. Calendar. Is there a way to set tasks and stuff rather than appointments?
4. Calls. How can I look at previous call info, such as call time? It only appears to give me the call time and nothing else. Not a big deal if that's it.. but kind of weird.
5. Messaging. How can I delete all, rather than just delete a specific convo? Is there a drafts folder?
6. Pictures. Can I organize these on my phone? It says it takes down gps location, but I can't find a way to actually view that info.. do I need to upload it to skynet or something?
7. Where's a good nav?? Where's my damn update??
Thanks!
I think I have more questions but that's all I can think of for now.
1. WP7 cant mulitask atm. But it freezes the apps. Press back button to go back. But prolly wont let you start the game where you left off.
2. Yes it uses your data connection, even if its not using the same APN
3. No, but there is apps for that.
4. No you cant watch it.
5. Yes, klick to the the right corner in inbox.
6. Don't know.
7. There is non. Bing works bretty good if your account and phone is in US. Works in other countrys as well then. Need to learn to type adresses to get it right. As US user Bing will give mre buttons. And for the update, i wonder my self =D

Much appreciated
So in general do most people keep hitting the back button to exit all apps unless they plan on going back? It would be nice to have a dedicated end button that closes everything in one press.
And for the text messages, when I click the bottom right corner in my messaging screen, my only options are new or settings... no 'delete all'.
When you mention Bing maps... are you referring to the default app on my phone called 'Maps'?
Hitting home (windows button) is the slimmest way if you want to go back later with the use of back button. Since it freezes the app, nothing is running. And why need a close when it doesnt affect performance? So pressing back or windows button doesnt matter that much, only depending in a order to get back if you want.
And for text messages, i noticed the same. Its only in mails you can use the described by clicking on a mail to the right.
And bing maps are the maps im talking off. There are some Google choises but only as apps you have to download.

Hey guys.
Stumbled upon this on YouTube. Bought the app and I can confirm that it works.
This is the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.used.aoe
Here's the video I found on YouTube:
I managed to get it setup just the way I like. The guy in the video is a bit hard to understand but the video is good enough to get you started.

Just tried it, buggy as hell and didn't play nice with my lock screen. Also every 30 seconds the screen would flicker.
I'll keep an eye on it and maybe try again after more refinement.

I had nothing but issues out of the app. Notifications wouldn't notify, the lock screen turned on and off randomly, there were no edge lighting effects no matter what I adjusted. I even tried to use the camera cutout, it again did not work.
This is a VERY bloated app, containing a LOT of features and options that frankly, are of no use to me or of no interest to me. I want an app that it's ONLY purpose is to alert me when I get messages, calls, and email. one that does not have so much bloat so that the developer can focus on the feature that is most sought after at the moment.
Just my two cents.
tl;dr App is junk, has too much junk, we need a debloated app.
It's a start...

Come on! This app might not be right for you, but the developer should at least be given some credit/thanks for the effort taken to solve a problem, for which several users are seeking a not really forthcoming solution from Samsung. You "want an app...", but the developer created something and shared it. Granted, the app has far too many options and choices, but I was able to get it working to my satisfaction. Let's be thankful first .

Okay, okay, okay. I may have been a little harsh. I didn't mean to demean to developer. I am very thankful they have taken the time to create this app out of the kindness of their heart, as well as make the app free. I appreciate the work they have done and I would even donate if I could get the app to work; however it's not very user friendly tough, and in my opinion, could use a lot of work on many different aspects.
My main issue with the app is that it does not work as intended. I have tried using the youtube video settings, playing with options, etc.
I download and re-install this app about 5 times a day in hopes that MAYBE one time I can get it to function as intended. But I do not get any kind of Edge lighting or Notch cutout alert when I get messages, and that is the sole purpose of my attempts with this app, if I could find something similar or something that better served this purpose I would use it instead.
Sometimes, while using the apps lock screen, it will display the little icon and the message but then it goes away, and doesn't re-alert like it is suppose to, and the light affects do not appear. I have tried leaving it as the stock color and using a custom color. I have tried using the app lock screen, I have tried using the settings within the app to let it manipulate the wallpaper and lock screen, tried it with an image and also just a black background. I never even delved into setting different colors for apps, I can't get the dang notifications to work!
end rant
Do you have edge light on? Worked for me first try. I am not saying its 100% but for free and for now to wait to see if Samsung might give us we want I will leave it on my phone.

it is working a bit strange for me as well. I've managed to get it to ALMOST work how I want, but I can't figure out why it will do random things
-- for a while it was turning on my screen when the edge lighting came on, which was pointless. I changed a lot of settings in troubleshooting, but I'm not sure what I did to fix it
-- also, it does notify every 30 seconds even though I have no new notifications. that one I haven't figured out yet
It does work as advertised though, despite the bugs I can't fix. It will either light up my edge lighting or the notch around the camera (which I prefer). so props to the dev for figuring that part out and here's to hoping the rest of the bugs get worked on the S10 (and my S10+). it seems to be working for other devices (I originally found it here for the oneplus)

you need to disable edge lighting in setting to use this app or else it will conflict since this app does wake up the screen while edge lighting is not.
if u enable both that mean this app waking up the screen, then edge lighting will also showing (coz edge lighting while screen is on is applied). you will have both notification then

thanks! Not sure if it was changing that setting that helped, or their recent update I got yesterday, but the weird behavior has seemed to subside for a bit... I'll give it a few more days of testing to see if I can find anything else weird, but so far so good. I might also try swapping out the default color with individual colors for each app soon. Glad the dev seems to be open and receptive to feedback and willing to keep his app updated to fix various bugs found
The Reminder Notification Option
Has anyone successfully gotten the reminder option to work? When used, this is supposed to repeat the notification lighting for a brief period, if a notification had been unanswered for a period of time (30 or 60 seconds - I think). However, I could not get that to work - or at least replay the lighting. incidentally, I notice that Sakitech did not "fully" demo this feature in his Youtube tutorial. He mentioned it (at about 6:08), but did not show it working, I suspect (only speculating...) that he edited it out of the video because it does not work properly.

Thanks! The only setting I have differently is "double top to close" instead of "swipe up to close". Otherwise, I have been using these exact settings . As usual, at the moment that the screen should display the reminder, all that happens is the phone vibrates, but the light is not illuminated or display any visible interaction with the AOE lighting app.

Yeah, I see what you mean. My app as well will not work properly. I don't know what is going on? I have reached out to the developer and still not able to resolve the issues. The app starts out good but then goes rogue after awhile. I thought it was good lock messing it up but I was wrong. I give up for now.

Try turning off the "Manually only when I want it, I open the app". Also change the "When a notification comes" "And screen is off" to "Always off or on". Be sure you have turned off the Edge lighting in your phone settings.
What I was finding is when a notification would come in, it would light up the screen for a second and this would cause the app not to show the notification because I set it to "And screen is off" condition causing several notifications, if not all, to make the app not work. Once I changed to it to either/or, it has been working great for me. Hope this helps
Hi! I try to work with Open Camera on a Realme GT Neo 2 . The issue is the open camera does not save the photo in RAW. It captures the image, sounds like a camera, but at that moment the app stops and the image is not saved. When you stops the app, and reset, you can capture one, or maybe two photos, but if you leave the app, when you come back, fails again. In JPEG mode there is no problme, only whit the RAW format...

Yes, yes! I have it! I've selected Camera2 API. But the app shot the picture, and immediately rest stopped. The photo is not saved. But the app is not crashed, only the image stills on the screen till you push settings, or back button, for exemple.
Try this .... go to your settings of Open Camea via the wheel in the upper right corner .... then go to the last one .... which is called Settings manager .... then you get three options there ..... don't be afraid to choose the last "Reset settings" ..... this helped me a lot....but I must say, my phone is complete different of yours.

Hello XDA Community.
Here is a thread that will help you make the most of your Android device.
Watch the video or go through the below list of tips and tricks.
You might find it useful.
Tap for AOD and Double-tap to wake.
If you have a premium Android smartphone, you ought to have both of these features. A lot of people are unaware and always use the side key. Save your side key from unwanted presses, simply tap once for AOD and double tap-to wake the screen. These options can be configured and personalized in the settings.
Double tap to lock.
Done with your work and want to keep the phone back in your pocket? Do that simply with double tapping on the screen to lock it. If it’s not working for you, your phone might not support this feature.
Double swipe down for quick-settings.
Sometimes, it can be lengthy to pull down the notification section twice, especially if you have a lot of notifications and want to change the brightness or want to toggle a quick-setting. A faster way to get there is to swipe-down using 2 fingers. It’s a handy magic trick that you can use to get things done faster.
Open camera without unlocking your phone.
A lot of times, we unlock our phone and give it to others for taking a photograph. This can be unsafe and somebody might go through sensitive information on your phone. Next time you’re at an event, just swipe on the lock screen to open the camera. This way, your personal information will stay secure and you’ll be at peace of mind.
Mark messages as read from the lockscreen.
Oftentimes a day, we get a lot of messages. It can be difficult to open all the messages to get them marked as read. A quick trick is that you can mark messages as read from the lockscreen itself. This works for SMS as well as popular messaging apps like WhatsApp.
Press and hold app icons for shortcuts.
If you are using lengthy approaches for tasks, this is bound to pave the way for a lot of shortcuts. You can tap and hold on icons for getting things done faster. Each app (depending on the developer) will show you a bunch of quick tasks that can be very useful. Tap and hold the dialer icon to add a contact, tap and hold chrome’s icon to quickly open an incognito window. Instagram shows quick options such as Camera, New Post, View activity or Chats.
Find your phone using Google Assistant.
This trick will work only if Google accounts are the same on your phone as well as smart speakers. Just say “Hey Google, where’s my phone?” and your phone will start ringing. This can be useful if you’re struggling to find your phone after a party. It might have hid in the sofa, under the bed or another dimension. Find it easily using your Google Assistant.
Check the phone's battery using Google Assistant.
About to fall asleep and don’t have the energy to check your phone, just ask Google. Simply say, “How much battery is there on my phone?” and the mighty Google will respond.
Get directions to places using Google Assistant.
Planning to go somewhere, simply ask your Google Nest device. Try saying, “Send me directions to the airport.”
Multi window
Wanna use multiple apps at once? Android has got you covered. Simply open the combination of apps in split screen view. This can be quite useful if you want to read something while completing a project. Drag and drop can also be done among windows. Also feel free to resize the apps as per your need.
Pop-up view
Doing some calculations and don’t want to switch back and forth between the apps? Use pop-up view instead. Bring up the calculator as a pop-up window on your screen to make quick calculations. The possibilities are endless.
Swype keyboard
Are you still typing the old school way? Time to change things. Swype is a great way to type faster. Turn it on from the keyboard settings if needed, and swype away. Say goodbye to typing one key at a time.
One-handed mode
Screens are getting bigger these days. Gone are the times when everything was usable with one-hand by default. To counter this, there are software enhancements. Turn on one-handed mode from settings to easily use the phone and reach all corners.
Mirror screen
Got an Android TV at home? Use the Google Home app which is downloadable from the play store to mirror your phone’s screen. This can be really useful if you have guests over and you want to showcase your gallery pics. Or just show them a presentation.
Cast content
While screen mirroring is cool, it’s not recommended for watching content. Use casting instead. Common streaming apps like YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ have this feature. Just ensure your TV and phone are on the same network, then use the Cast icon present in the app to play things on TV and control them using the phone. Pretty handy.
Control home devices
Once you have added your Smart devices to Google Home, simply use the Devices option to control them quickly. This can be useful to turn lights on or off, change the volume on TV or Play/Pause smart speakers.
Get rid of app drawer - Home screen apps
Recently switched from an iPhone or want a simpler home screen layout? There’s an option for that. Go to launcher settings and use the Home screen apps option. You will now have a simpler life and won’t have to open the app drawer again and again. Swipe up to perform a spotlight like search. Thanks Android for such good days
Extra-dim
It’s important to take care of our eyes during the night. Bright displays in bed while the lights are off can be stressful. Thanks to Android 12, there’s an Extra dim feature built in. Simply turn it on to make the screen easily readable even in the darkest situations.
Turn off notifications
Too many notifications from unwanted apps annoying you? Simply hold a notification to bring up notification settings, quickly turn off all annoying notifications from here.
Take calls from PC
Your phone app on Windows 10 and 11 offers a ton of features. One of them being the ability to take calls from your PC. This trick really saves from back and forth switching while working on a laptop. Make your life easier, pair your phone to Windows and take calls from the PC.
Messages from PC
Making a transaction on your laptop and don’t want the trouble to look at your phone? Your phone app helps you see all SMS on your PC itself. You can even reply or copy-paste to get content on your laptop.
