[Q][Desire]Replacing SD Card - General Questions and Answers

Hi everybody,
Newbee, I want to replace my SD card very small by another one bigger and faster.
I'm using the Starburst rom.
Is there a very simple way to replace it without reinstall all the app's and parameters like, in Seven, un-hidden file display in Explorer and copy/paste after formatting my nex SD Card?
The card I'm using has two partitions, one in FAT32, the other in Ext4.
Sorry for my poor english...
Best Regards from France.

[Q] Newbie with new SD Card

Hi Guys
Well I successfully rooted and isntalled a new ROM thanks to thehelpful members on this site and the guides.
I have now purchased a 32GB Micro SD to replace the 4GB in the Desire.
My question is, how do I copy the old stuff to the new card? Just copy and paste or are there hidden files etc which will require a clone?
Will all my apps work as before after changing the card?
Hope to hear back from you soon
Fat32 or NTFS?
thanks for the feedback, will try this when I get home.
Wasnt aware of the fake cards on eBay till I bought one and eBay canceled the auction!
I have purchased this from Amazon, class 4 32Gb for £40, hope its a real one.
Thanks again
ok another stupid question.
If windoes cant see the drive, how do I get 4gb of data from my old card to my new card as I cant put them both in my phone at the same time??
So just to clarify
To install a new memory card:-
I need to install Android SDK
I also need Java SDK to run Android SDK
I then need ADB to run commands to access the android
and then something called Cyanogen?
damn windows is so eay compared to this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So now I have to get a new pc or partition this one to dual boot to enable me to run an OS I have never used in my life?
Is this really the only way to copy 2.5gb of files from one card to another?
1. Just do a nandroid + ext backup
2. Copy all files from SD to PC
3. Insert new card
4. Copy all files from PC to new card through recovery
5. Do a nand restore
Done.

Cheers for that, I have checked the nadroid back up docs and it says
"By fully back up, I don’t mean backing up just your address book or your emails, or your dog. I mean EVERYTHING that resides on your phone with the exception of the SD card"
So I can backup everything except my card which is what I wanted to back up in the first place?
Cant seem to find a way to back up the SD card to the PC to install a new SD card and restore from the pc
tried to create partition FAIL
tried to create partion in windows FAIL
tried to load with ROM manager get E: e signature verification failed
So am I to assume my brand new 32gb card is FUBAR?
Im a little confused on how to change SD Cards too.
My partner has a Legend with only 2gig card, will swap this for a 4gig SD Card.
Can I just exchange cards in the phone, format new card in phone and then copy all files from old card to new with my windows PC?
If the mobile creates the file system structure on the SD Card and I copy the files over to it is that fine?
Thanks

Does anyone have the definitive answer on this please?
Even with copy and paste on the new card, you copy 3.6gb to the pc and then 400mb goes back the other way, all folders are EMPTY

Kumusta Pare! Just copy everything from your old sd card to your computer then transfer it to your new sd card.

thanks for the reply! so i would assume if everything is copied from the old sd card...there would be no problems putting in the new one so long as the files/folders remain the same. thanks.
That is correct! I think.
I really doubt that!!!
Your data should be fine (pics, music etc)
but if you have installed apps on your SD, I would recommend re-installing them on the new SD
So the step would be..
1- Copy all data from old sd to pc
2- put the new sd in and copy the data to the new sd from pc
3- Re-install apps.
usually, just copying the whole SD card to the new one is enough, as said above, that's what I did from a 16Go to a 32go, that's what I did from 08 to 16 on my former phone.
Maybe one or two apps will require reinstalling (I doubt, all of my downloaded apps were working when I went from 16 to 32Go with my Sensation) but you won't lose any data.
Thanks for the replies!

Advance SD Card wiping?

Hey guys. I need sth like a advanced sd card wiper. I want to reset my sd card except my music folder and my nandroid backups. I have this problem because my computer stopped working and I want to clean my sd. Please help me.
Liebe Grüße ;-)

Best bet would be to dump all your data on ur PC n format SD thru recovery. Since your PC is down, I'd create a partition in SD, dump your data there, and format the old partition..
And how to create partitions? Can I merge the 2 partitions again?

No one can help me?

Surely you must have access to another computer? Which will permit you to offload (copy) all the files that you want kept, so that you can format your sd card and then copy the files back

[Q] Brand new SDHC card, what to do next?

Hi guys,
I just bought a brand new Samsung SDHC card to replace my old stock one. Is there anything special that people recommend doing when inserting a brand new card? Format in the phone or external reader? Format with specific cluster size?
I guess my real question is when and what to copy from my original SD card if there is anything special?

How about formatting the card in the phone? When I used my old HD2, I would have to say that was compulsory....

on HD2, that wasn't compulsory...unless using ext..
Thanks guys,
Compulsory is a strong word, but obviously it helps. I'm getting the card tonight I hope, it should be waiting for me when I get home from work. I'll format it in the PC first and then another format in the phone and start copying files after that...
