I have done my research and yet... no result. Please HELP!! (I'm new to android) - HTC ChaCha

Hello all, this is my first time posting on this forums, although I have been lurking them thoroughly the last couple of days, since I was able to finally buy myself my first Android Phone: HTC Chacha.
Being completely new to android, it was hard for me to adapt and learn all the new terms (like root, rom, etc.) and finally the day before yesterday I decided to dive in and try to mess around with my Chacha because I was tired of the internal memory running low and the lack of awesome stuff I could install, like a Custom ROM.
I have followed the guides in this forums, and I am glad to say that I have my chacha unlocked via the bootloader thingy from the official htc website (it says UNLOCKED when I open the menu when booting the device with the power and down volume keys) , I have it rooted and, somehow, I was able to install Clockwork Recovery Mod version 4 to try and backup the rom that came with the phone (from Telcel, since I'm from Mexico) and install a specific Rom (I want to install Stock Plus, here's the link to the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1690088)
However, I have failed terribly and I am just about to tear my hair out due to frustration. :silly:
Every time I run the Clockwork Recovery Mod from the Recovery option in the menu that appears if you press the power and down volume keys, no matter what options I choose (backup, install from sd, power off, etc) NO ACTION takes place and it just stays stuck in the logo of the hat with the orange circle. I have tried waiting for hours, taking the battery on and off, rebooting (is that the same as restarting?) the cellphone and googling like crazy.
I hate threads were people post because they didn't take their time to do proper research or just typing a couple of words on google. But I SWEAR I have been trying this for 6 hours, I have tried different searches and I am just about to give up. Please help me!
Is there something I need to install? Something I need to check? I admit I AM a noob when it comes to terms like "flashing" and such, but if you are patient and guide me step by step I promise I will do my best to follow the steps without annoying you.
I have read a lot of guides, posts in this forum and others, and finally decided that the last desperate measure had to be used: Ask for help.
If someone has ANY idea of what I'm doing wrong, please guide me. And I'm sorry if this post is too long, but I just had too much to say due to my lack of reaching goals for today, lol.
Thank you for taking your time to read this

Go into recovery like you have just described, once in recovery, before choosing any items like install from SD card of backup press the volume key (either up or down) multiple times until you see something like "back menu enabled" displayed in white text. After that choose any option you want, you'll be good to go.

Use the "enter" key on your keyboard to activate CWM options.

THANK YOU! I did just like you said and the "back menu enabled" DID appear in white text. I was finally able to make a backup of the rom I had in the phone. I am a very happy person right now!

NOOBZ: The EASY guide to rooting your Aria and Installing Attn1's ROM (Win XP/Vista)

Like some of you, i'm an absolute newbie to Android. But after a week of reading and scrolling through many webpages and forums. i finally got the nerve to Root my Aria and install Attn1's ROM because i was tired of the auto-start of ATT's bloatware and random restarting of those apps that i had to constantly check and kill with Advanced Task Killer (ATK..in the Market).
and yes i've actually seen a slight increase in my batter life after. (on at 6am..average txting, heavy web surfing, and minimal Market browsing...69% by 2pm)
so here's the step by step guide without having to go through the many pages of the forums...
** To Root your Aria and Clockwork Mod
1. go to http://unrevoked.com, choose your Aria phone, and click the download file. save and extract into a easy to remember directory on your computer.
2. go to http://www.unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php?id=public:windows_hboot_driver_install and follow the instructions to install HBOOT
3. go to HTC's website and download and install HTC Sync. Yes it's been said it messes up the process. slightly not true. you're only gonna install it so that the proper ADB drivers are installed that Unrevoked Rooting tool needs to access your phone. as soon as it installs...uninstall it. it will leave the proper ADB required drivers behind. (it took me hours and finally wading through 6 pages worth of forum posts to find this out..so i'm saving you the trouble)
4. now on your phone..click Menu > Settings > Connect to PC > Default Connection Type > and select Charge Only
5. go back to Settings > Applications > Development > and check USB Debugging
6. now start UnRevoked (c:\directory you chose\reflash.exe)
7. gray wide window with UnRevoked's logo and a "waiting for device" type message under it. now plug in your Aria via USB to the computer. sit back and watch the magic. 5mins (or less) later and you will have a Rooted phone with Clockwork mod.
**now that your Aria is rooted you can install Attn1's ATT bloatware free Rom.
1. go to Menu > Settings > Connect to PC > Default Connection Type > and select Disk Drive
2. go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=708434 and decide which beta version you want to use. I chose B003 since it's the one folks have the least issues with and the cleanest one that hasn't changed too much about the stock rom. download and save the file to your SD Card. i chose the Download folder to make it easy to find.
3. now turn off your phone. hold down the Volume Down button and press the Power button. you should see the standard Fastboot menu with the lil droid guys on skateboards on the bottom. press the volume down button until "recovery" is highlighted. hit the Power button to select it. you'll see the HTC logo as if it's booting and the clockwork mod screen (black background with green text) that you were left at with the Unrevoked tool.
4. using the volume down button select Nandroid > Backup. i'm not quite sure but i think this backups all your settings of the current stock Rom. *advanced users correct me if i'm wrong*. all i know is you NEED to do this. it was stressed in most forums.
give it a couple minutes and the process should finish.
5. now select Install Zip from SD Card. Use the volume buttons and Power button (select) and navigate to Attn1's Rom zip file. select it. don't let the warning scare you too much. his Rom is LEGIT and 110% working select yes and watch the quick install process.
few minutes later you should be up and running just fine.
6. if it reboots and you hear some pleasant chimes/dings and no ATT 3G boot up or loud WOOSH animation..you've installed his Rom just fine and all your previous settings as if nothing's changed yes the HTC Quietly Brilliant will be on your screen for a little while since there is no secondary boot animation. don't worry.
credits go to attn1 and quickness to get this clean rom up
***EDIT: July 26, 2010 ***
just wanted to thank everyone for the compliments and glad this was able to help ease the pain of rooting your Aria and installing a custom ROM.
many thanks for the compliments
Whoa! Just what I needed. Many have come before you and remained silent so thanks for putting this together. I have been reading for a week now in preparation of purchasing an Aria and it just shipped from Amazon today. Now, I'm psyched!
this is amazing, i had literally just done the unrevoked thing and had no idea what to do next, and then all of the sudden this thread pops up and helped A LOT
perfect timing
glad to help
the experienced users were right that's it's simple if you KNOW what you're doing. just the answers/instructions were vague on exactly how.
ok, now how do i access clockwork? do i have to restart while holding the volume and power buttons or is there something im missing?
also, is there a way to move the apps to the sd card?

Power down your phone, than hold down the volume down button and power button. In the fastboot menu push volume down till Recovery is highlighted and push the power button to select. 5 seconds later it'll load into clockwork
And I have yet to try the SD card app method
thanks, hopefully someone will find out how to install apps to the sd card soon, it would save a lot of space
I certainly appreciate your help here. I am now running the liberated 005 on my Aria. Still want to make the jump to 2.2
Not to be rude, but we really shouldn't keep posting new instruction threads, they generally confuse people, and attn1 already mentioned this method.
new here. thanks for the step by step!
all was running fine up till the point where the program was rebooting my phone... but after the phone reboot and is running fine... it still say it's "waiting for reboot..." so... i try to start over and now it says that it's "waiting for device"...
but i've already installed and uninstalled the HTC sync for aria. please help!

yeah, but it took me over an hour and going through pages of forum posts before realizing i needed to install HTC Sync and uninstall it so that i could have all the drivers i needed and no issues of programs trying to access the USB port. this saves some newbs a lil headache. that's all i'm trying to do.

just plug the phone back in and let it run the Unrevoked again. i ran into the same issue and thought i might have rebooted too soon through clockwork.
Thank you for this. I tried to root my phone the other way and could never get my phone to be seen by my comp.
can anyone tell me why the link to unrevoked.com/#aria wont load. all i get is the the home page where you select your phone. down at the bottom of the screen it says errors on page.... so frustrating
It's working for me. Try http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
this is exactly what i needed! i have read and read (and tried) other methods, which may be the same in a sence, but i have never got it to work. i am in the process of installing the liberated rom as we speak. much props to you asiancuta for putting out a great step by step guide. and as always props to attn1 for making this possible.
edit: keep getting error at line 7 and installation aborted. phone is pretty much screwed. i can keep getting back into clockwork but dont know what to do from there. phone wont boot up either

Odd. Never had that happen. In the install zip from SD card menu try selecting Signature Verification method is off and try that.
Also make sure you reboot the phone after rooting just in case.

If you followed the instructions, you can use ClockworkMod to restore your 'nandroid' backup.
Found out what the problem was. At least I think. When I formatted my SD card(trying other methods), I lost all the default folders. So I created a "downloads" folder and put the liberated Rom in it. Therefore I was getting an error message. I nand restored, moved the Rom out of the dl folder, and just put the zip file on the SD card. Not in a folder. Then proceeded with the instructions and worked just fine. Thx everyone. Now I'm rooted and flashed my first Rom (at least on android)
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
This helped me so much! Thank you!

[Q] Rom Flashing / Clockwork MOD questions

OK, I have spent a lot of time reading up on the subject but I am still unclear on a few things about flashing ROMS.
I have rooted my phone (no problem) and have installed ROM manger and Clockwork Mod. I was able to do back ups no problem but ran into some serious problems when I tried to put on CM7. What I ended up with was the black screen of death and it took me almost 7 hrs to get my phone back up and running. (CM7 = cost me 7 Hrs!) I know there are some issues with clockwork mod running on this phone but I see people flashing like crazy so I know it must not be that big of a deal. Needless to say I am a little nervous to jump in again, I am reluctant to create a $500 paperweight.
Here are my questions, if anybody has any input I would love to hear it.
1) What are the steps to installing a ROM with CWM?
2) Can you flash a new ROM by putting it on your SD card and Entering HBoot without Clockwork Mod (it seems like this is what happened in the root process.)
3) Do you have to wipe the phone every time before you install a new rom, and if so is a factory reset what you are after?
4) What does it mean when you enter "Recovery". I have seen it in HBoot and ROM manager but don't really know what it means.
5) Where on earth can I find a dictionary on all of the terms and abbreviations used in the Android Rooting community? I am quick study but this is a steep learning curve to come up to speed on.
Thanks Everyone.
turn off your phone and then hold volume down then press the power button and hold volume down after you let off the power until it boots into recovery. then you will see wipe, flash from sd card and all the other menus. its simple once you get that figured out

[Q] Need help with rooting 3g (have read the how to)

Hey guys I really need your help, my phone has been down for the past 3 days now. I followed this guide:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547133&page=2. I will state that I am new to the forum so I cannot post on the actual how to, due to rules, or I would have. Basically i have made it all the way thru the guide, to the point where it tells me to:
- press MENU to power off! (do not reboot)
- hold HOME and POWER to boot into recovery mode
- apply update
once I reach there I have no way of resetting the phone so I just pulled battery after it said the cyanogenmod was installed from sdcard. I flashed the splash.nb, but now all that happens is my phone loads up the MyTouch 3g screen freezes for a few min then restarts and goes back into Android System Recovery screen. I really need your help and would be forever great-full if someone could lend me a hand. I will check back regularly.
Thank you very much ahead of time for whoever lends me a hand.
Troubled Guy With Non Working Phone
OP here
Come on guys someone has to have had this problem before. Even if you are sending me to another link who has dealt with this before it will still be a help.
First of all, I'm not familiar with your phone. But I will try to give you a few ideas and see if any of it works for you.
If you have a recovery installed and you have flashed Cyanogenmod, then you are rooted. I'm not sure how your recovery works, but you should have to use the volume buttons & power button to navigate recovery - or something similar. If you can get into recovery, you should be fine.
Go to the wipe menu and wipe cache/dalvik cache. If these weren't wiped properly before flashing, this could be the culprit. There should be an option to reboot, you may have to choose go back a couple times to find it. If that doesn't work, try flashing a different rom. You'll need to wipe everything in recovery (except the SD card) first, then choose "flash zip from SD card".
If your battery is almost dead, don't try flashing anything, just wipe. You'll need to get an external charger or a full battery before flashing anything.
Again, I don't know how your phone works, I have an Evo & pretty much just treated your post as such. It's a start, though. If you can give me more info, I can try to help further.
I also just noticed this is an old method for an old version of the phone. You do have the phone this was made for, correct? Have you tried sending a pm to the OP?
There is most likely an easier, newer way to root, but what's done is done. It also seems like it may be using Amon Ra recovery? If that's the case, that's the recovery I use so I can help you out there. You may also want to look at how to unroot and get your phone back to stock, then start over. I'm going in to work, but if you post back I'll try to help you out as soon as I get the chance.

[Q] HTC Inspire stuck on logo screen

So I rooted my HTC Inspire using Hack Ace Kit. Than I flashed a custom HTC Sense 3.0 ROM. I decided it was too slow for me so I went into CloworkMod Recovery and wiped all data/delvik from the phone & SD card. When I rebooted my phone, the plain HTC logo screen appears followed by the HTC logo screen w/ the "Quietly Brilliant". It keeps repeating the screen over and over. If I plug it into the PC the PC never detects it because the phone is turning off and on, and my volume buttons are broken off so its difficult to do a reset. How do I return back to custom ROM and make my phone work?

search, search, search, search!!! this is a development site and it is expected that you at least try to find your answer first and since I know this subject has been covered maybe not your particular circumstance but the boot loop you're referencing has numerous threads about it.
First off, you clearly didn't read much because any time you wipe data/cache you're always suppose to flash a new ROM, since you didn't and just tried to reboot what exactly were you expecting to happen? there is no data on your phone!!!!Incredible. Second, you're gonna have to find a way to get your volume keys to work because that's about the only way you're going to get into HBOOT without making this a bit more complicated for you. I'm also going to assume that since you tried to reboot your phone after a full wipe, you ignored most warnings and advice to make a back-up of your rom. If you didn't, get into the habit fast or spend a stupid amount of time working around problems like this. If you made a back up and I pray that you did, hold the volume down button and power on the device. It will boot you into HBOOT and then you can boot into recovery from there. From recovery you can then restore your back-up. If you can get into recovery from HBOOT and you don't have a back-up or a ROM zip on your sd card currently, you can mount storage from recovery (has to be plugged into the PC obviously) and you should be able to place another ROM zip on your SDcard and flash the ROM through recovery once its on the SD card. Please please please, read and do your full research before you destroy your phone!

LG Optimus F3 - Hard Bricked?

Hello everyone, I do believe I have officially broken my phone, however, something tells me I shouldn't give up quite yet.
My cool-story lookin ass decided "Gee, I have done a lot with my phone, and I really want to try and use Cyanogen Mod on it because I am cool!"
Well, I am definitely not that cool. It failed, and then after sadly being turned to my stock ROM, I decided to try Clockwork Mod, it seemed that some were doing it quite easily, so I attempted this myself.
Another failed attempt there, so I figured, well, the Clockwork Mod app had some cool stuff to it, maybe I will just satisfy myself by trying to change the bootup animation to Nyan Cat to make myself feel better about it.
The original purpose of me flashing a ROM over was to allow me to install apps to my SD card without having to go though a Myriad of things. Turns out, that was probably the better option.
Allow me to tell you the current symptoms, and let you know what methods I have tried.
Stuck on LG boot screen, does not load OS
Now no longer will power on or even try to without being connected to my PC (not sure how that came about)
Recovery (Power + Vol Down) does not work, freezes when telling me to wait (gave it a good 30 minutes)
Factory Reset does not work (freezes after second confirmation gave it about 30 minutes)
Methods I am trying but have so far had no success with:
LG Support Tool - (Tells me it stopped working at the beginning of the 3rd step in Upgrade Recovery) (I am letting it sit right now and is still there after about 20 minutes or so)
Unsoft Brick (OneClick Unbrick Java tool) - Flat out fails.
The Connect.img for VMWare fails ultimately
KS360 Util ENG (So far no luck. It crashes douring the upgrade.)
LGFlash Tool - I got it to say Ready and then boom, I unplug and replug in (as per instructions) and no dice, I get no "PASS" on it.
What I can do
Get it to the Download Mode screen.
So far I have tried these methods with and without both the SD Card and SIM card.
The phone IS out of service right now and I did soft-root it at one point using Ngyuen Root method King User, so I don't believe I will get any support, even if I do take it into Sprint (Got it through Boost Mobile).
What I am thinking I may be able to do (no research on this yet)
Is be able to run Linux Distro Ubuntu, force wipe it, and then force the stock ROM back into it to make it run again..
But so far, I have mostly broken down far and needed to post a thread about it here.
If any of you have any suggestions as to what I might do in order to get my phone back up and running (loss of data is irrelevant and already happened) again, that would be fantastic.
Much appreciated everyone.
(Thread posted by myself in Android Forums as well so as to prevent any confusion)
[[ SIDE NOTE: I wasn't sure where to post this, so when I searched for a thread regarding this device, it was posted here, and I scrolled and saw other device support threads. I hope this was the way to go! Sorry if I didn't get it right. ]]
Just a quick update on the goings on:
Yesterday I was able to get it to try and boot without it being plugged in but it did only attempt so ONCE. I do know that after all of the tinkering I have been doing the battery should be at least 90% if not 100%.
This was also a great excuse to bump the thread and let you know I am still watching and hopeful
