Anyone else have issues with Google Nav voice after switching it? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Alls I did was switch it to British English, because I didn't like the chick, and hoped there was a real British recording (they obviously used a real voice for Google Nav, it's not synthesized.) I switched back, but ever since, the Nav voice will randomly change from the nice sounding Google TTS voice to a British one to a really, really awful one (which is not the Samsung TTS voice.)
I've cleared data in Google NAV, Google TTS and Samsung TTS. We'll see if it works.
In the meantime, don't switch your TTS voice unless you have to. One day, I hope Google starts paying attention to these little details...

I never messed with any of my settings and mine switched to the robotic stock voice from time to time. Sometimes in the middle of a single instruction. Like robotic "in a quarter mile" new voice "turn left onto...."
Weird.

Google Maps Navigation Bug - Turn by Turn directions

I've owned my T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4G for about 10 days and I've noticed that the Google Maps Navigation does not completely speak the turn by turn directions through my bluetooth headset (Jawbone Icon) when connected. For example, if a diretion is supposed to be: "Take Exit 148 in 1,000 feet" all that I will hear is about 1/2 the sentence: "in 1,000 ft". This happens all the time when the Sensation 4G is connected via bluetooth. It happened to me the 1st time I used it and it happens all the time at every turn voice prompt.
When the navigation is through the speaker phone, it speaks the complete directions just fine. However, I use my bluetooth most of the time while driving because in Washington State it is illegal to drive while talking on your cell phone, unless you have a bluetooth.
Is this issue just with the HTC Sensation 4G? My previous phone was a Samsung Galaxy S 4G and the Google Maps Navigiation directions worked fine with my same Bluetooth headset. I've tried a phone restore and I also updated the Google Maps app (6/30/11) and I am still experiencing these turn by turn bugs via bluetooth. Anybody else experience this or can anyone please test the Google Maps Navigation with their headset?
Out of curiosity, is it the same voice? You may want to try re-installing the text to speak app.
The device is establishing an a2dp connection which takes a second or two. This causes the start of the directions to be missed. This is designed to save power by only connecting when audio is played. One workaround is to play music through Bluetooth from the player in the background. Music will be silenced while the directions are announced.

What he said. By default it appears to want to use the telenav lady voice. I had to install/update the e-speak app for it to work properly.

Thanks for the reply. I did notice that when I played music through Pandora that the Turn by Turn directions did speak just fine. I just find it annoying that the start of the directions are missed on the Sensation 4G when it worked just fine on my Galaxy S 4G.
The voice I hear is the same and it is the lady.
As for the post that said to try and reinstall the TTS. I only have Pico TTS on my phone and I couldn't find the option to uninstall it. I looked in settings & applications and also in the Market under My app, but it doesn't show up. I'll give eSpeak a try tonight on my way home to see if that works.

[Q] Google navigation text to speech

Hi, I am currently using the latest version of google map and navigation, running PA hackfest Build 5 as the rom.
I noticed that the text to speech engine is updated, the voice is very different in google now.
However I cannot use that voice for navigation somehow. Actually, I used it for a while like 2-3 trips, then it just suddenly reverts to the old robotic girl voice, which is very disappointing.
I tried to change it in language&input > tts input, however the setting will not stick, whenever i exit the setting page, it reverts back to pico TTS.
Is there a way to force all my TTS use google TTS instead of pico TTS?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Delete pico in Titanium Backup maybe?

It would help A LOT if you explained WHAT the problem is rather then saying there is a problem...... don't even know what your issue is?
for me, this works fine.
say: OK GOOGLE
say: Call ********
Phone will call ....
What's the issue?

LOL still upset...the voice dialer while paired by bluetooth using it my car with my Kenwood Navigation head unit DNX890HD. It just does not work well at all. It misses names, can`t find names that are in my contacts, adds digits on number dial....etc Contacts that S voice (on my Samsung Galaxy S4) would call with no issues what so ever do not work at all. It is poor at best. The issue is with the voice dialer over Bluetooth in the car...Ok Google now works just fine.
So anything I can do to get better results or another app to give me better results.
Hope that helps and adds more meat to the subject.

It might be a kenwood related issue, It is working perfectly with the factory deck in my car.

This sounds obvious but I thought i'd throw it out there anyways... have you gone into the settings and checked off the box that tells it to work through the bluetooth headset? It may just be using the mic on the phone which is why it's messing up so bad.

Wish I could help, but in my experience, Google's voice recognition is one of if not the best voice recognition software out there. I've used "OK Google" few times and few more times as a test and compared to others, it's excellent.
could be a possibility your BT mic just isn't picking it up..or isnt close enough.
How does it perform without bluetooth?
In Google now settings, go to voice and check Bluetooth headset. Google Now will now be used instead of the dated "voice dailer."

I agree on its own in Google now it is really good...but hooked up to my Nav unit and it is the voice dialer which I think is different to Google now in some aspects...is the $hits. Klets works I have bought it and it does what Svoice dos on SGS4...I am happier now, just wished the built in one worked!!

I will try that, thought I did but was rushed. So when hooked to bluetooth then the screen will always have to stay on or activate when I press on the phone button on the nav unit? Will give it a try.
Klets works fine, but would love to get google now...

Same here...using Dodge/Chrysler's UConnect and I haven't had a single problem save for the same problem with some of my contacts not being able to be dialed using "Name, Home". It consistently boots me to that person's mobile number. That might be a google related issue or something else. Using numbers only hasn't given me any problems.
So here is my dilemma, Google now works when the phone is unlocked and through the blue tooth on the nav unit with ok google...when I press the telephone button on the nav unit it then defaults to either google voice dialer (the old crappy one) or klets with the always or just once options.
So it works sort of.....

I couldn't get the phone voice dialer or my old standby voice dialer called cyberon to work reliably on the N5 and my sony mw600 bluetooth headset. Cyberon worked fairly reliably on my old galaxy nexus but not on the N5.
I really thought that there was a bug in the N5 kitkat which would hose any bluetooth voice dialer. At your suggestion I just loaded klets and wow, it seems to work wonderfully!
I need some time with it but I am very encouraged. Caanda45 I can't thank you enough for your remarks

When I tried ok google for dialing I seem to recall there was no verification. I don't think I could rate a voice dialer as excellent without verification. I really don't want an old girlfriend asking me why I was calling her.

agreed. which phone did you settle on? Was it the voice dialing that caused you to switch?

I didn't say voice dialer was excellent.. I said the voice recognition was excellent.
As for verification, there is no "yes" "no" verification but there is a few second delay before it places a call, during which you can cancel if that's not the number you wanna dial.

ok, I'll acknowledge your statement about the voice recognition. I just tried playing with the voice calling feature again to refresh my memory.
Many times ok google wasn't picked up. There is no voice verification yes/no as you stated and no repeat of who it was about to call. Yes there is a delay where you could kill it with touch but I saw no way to kill it with a voice command once it commenced. Having to kill it with touch completely misses the point of voice dialing.
While the name it picks seems to be accurate that's about the only useful thing I can say about it. Even then often it would pull the correct name but drop the "call" part of the command and instead do a default web search on the name.
IMO, the google now voice dialer is cute but practically useless as a serious voice dialing application.

Believe it or not I got a Moto x and the notifications and touch less controls are outstanding!!! Solid phone, better speaker, no washed out picture off axis etc....The N5 is a powerhouse but as with most LG products, cheapo plastic....My S4 was better constructed.....just my opinion though...

It uses the Google system not the old google crappy voice dialer but the new one that is in the nexus 5...so basically google now..works really well even when I press the phone button on the nav system it defaults to google now through the nav mic. My N5 would use the crappy old google voice dialer until I used klets. All in all happy that I got rid of the N5.

Get Google maps to use Google Now instead of Voice Dialer?

Since Maps 9.2, Google maps integrated voice commands into navigation. So you can ask "are we there yet" or make a call. When I press the mic button during navigation, voice gallery pops up. Anyone know what's wrong?
Bump, no one?
Same Problem with Different Phone
I have the same problem with Note 2 SGH-I317M with 4.1.2 Rogers. Google Maps is 9.14.0. I tried all suggestions about Bluetooth Launcher and other apps like it. Those solutions do not work.
Bump.
Thanks in advance.
Same here
I've got the same problem Moto X. I once downloaded an app to disable moto voice in favor of voice dialer when I press the phone button in my car. I wonder if it affected this. I don't now even remember the apps name or if I know how to change it back anymore.

Copilot navigation and MCU question

Hello
Im using Copilot navigation and the voice is cut off, example when the voice should tell "Please turn left", tell "Please tur" and cut. On my android phone is OK.
If You want @Malaysk I can send you on private my android account where I have bought this app.
Second question, Im always update only rom from dupdate.img, I need to update mcu also?

How do you get it to have the standard android voice? I think I could cope with that as I like using the co pilot app. I'm using iGo at the moment and although it works properly it's nowhere near as good as copilot.
Hi you just pick the top voice option pico TTS and it will use the basic google voice, which for some unknown reason is the only one t hat doesnt cut out half way through a sentence.

It is an American woman's voice but atleast it's working so I'll learn to put up with her??
No worries, glad I could help.
ab1702 i have been having a play with the voice settings and think i may have a better solution, i now have a UK voice in CoPilot that doesn't cut off and that sounds relatively normal and not like a darlek.
If you go to the playstore on your headunit and install the Google TTS package, Then go into your settings in android, go to the device' Settings, and to Language and Input > Text-to-Speech Output, and select the google TTS instead of the pico TTS option then change all the google TTS settings in the same menus u can choose english UK and there is also 2 voice packages with various Male\Female voices i find the bottom one in package one to be the most human, Once you have changed all the settings in android Then open your copilot voice options and it should have changed to the Google TTS voice you have chosen in android and should work fine. Let me know how you get on :good:
I had the same problem with Greek copilot voices. It was cutting off the voice after first 2 words. I've installed TTS and now it has been fixed, but i have problem with the voices volume. I can barely hear them while radio is on and i can't find a way to turn it up. I tried the settings in (android) Navigation menu but even if i change the volume it is still the same. Also i found a setting in languages menu to boost the tts volume but still the same even it is on or off.
Any ideas?
