My phone is so HOT - HTC Sensation

My phone is very very very hot in games. Battery temperature reach 50 degrees. Is that normally ?
Even when it`s in standby is a little bit hot.
Maybe the problem is overclocking ...but i`m not a specialist....i want your opinions.

During real racing 2 my phone can get up to 115fh but cools down when I'm done.
Using latest bricked at 1.5 with slight overclock options.

My problem was that, during medium using...some pictures, messages, and calls ...temperature was somewhere about 45 degrees.
But now the problem is solved. The problem was caused by 3D and 3D GPUs overclocking. I returned to stock frequencies and now things are a little cooler.

Overclocking makes your phone hot. Just like a computer.

I found that overclocking the GPU makes the phone really really hot.

I don't over clock but My device also gets hot during game play.if it gets too warm I'll give it a.break then go back to the game after its cooled a bit.

no man....i mean hot(heat) ...not hot as sexy :laugh:

I found that my Sensation gets unpleasantly hot at the bottom of the screen even doing mundane activity like surfing the web. It's o/c'd to 1700 though so I can't say I'm surprised.
Has anyone established an oc that doesn't make the phone feel hotter in less strenuous use? I have a feeling it's going to be trial and error though.
TIA,
R2

its usually built into the ROM or flashed as an add-on tweaks zip. I was overclocked on Sense to 1.5ghz, but on AOKP I am actually running it at 1080mhz and everything is still smooth. the buttons do get hot tho because theres currently no option on AOKP to turn them off, but thats ok for me as I hardly ever play games on my phone so the heat is not an issue.

K. The JB ROM I'm on doesn't seem to support that, so I'll just revert to stock frequency until a release ROM is available.

Hey guys ..... how can i dezactivate the capacitive button backlight ?
I`m using ViperS 1.0.1 and in tweaks isn`t something like no capacitive buttons light.

Here are mine:
- fast
- sense/no sense, 100% customizible out of the box
-free official wireless tethering, at pretty good speeds here in NYC.
And only one thing I hate, now that my therd one seems to be fully operating as advertised, is that no matter what I do, the damn S- off won't stick.
well this worked for me 3x http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHrtVzlsA_s
this was the last one i tried. still a no.
i wander what it is that i do wrong, cuz nothin seems to work?
I love everything about this phone.
It's fast and runs very smoothly.
I also love the wifi tethering.
What I don't like is the bloatware! ewwww
Wireless tethering is free?
got that right son... official & free!!!
Three favorite things:
1. WiFi Calling - A must for my tiny, ****ty hometown where only VZW gets signal! And also the basements on campus.
2. Iced Glacier - After de-sensing this ROM it flies! So stable and ridiculous Quadrant scores! (2700+)
3. All the awesome mods in the Themes section - Currently running with a personally altered version of Pack's animated GYR Android battery and status icons, Diablo 2's font, also my Android 2.2 BIOS boot screen and one of the myTouch 4G splash screens I made!
This is just some of what can be done with this phone! What is there not to love?! In my opinion, best phone on the market!

The FFC, tried it with tango and it's fun.

Lol funny thing is I am on iced glacier right now and I get about 10 hours with light usage and about 6-10 hours depending on how hard I use it. I think I may have aa defective battery cause it stops charging randomly around after an hour and I have to reboot the phone to see the correct value of the battery's status.

So,I'm so freaking tired of charging my phone 3 times a day (HTC inspire) so I flash different roms, without sense to try and save battery, and I get maybe one extra hour!! So it makes me want a different phone, and I try to think of a different OS so I install miui just to see if I can stand not having full blown android, and I can't. So I'm stuck at a crossroad, with no money to just buy another phone. What would you do? No one will trade me an atrix lol.

Try a low voltage kernal w/ smartass governor maybe.
Try a battery calibration app and LBE security app, lower display brightness. Limit the number of widgets and start up programs.

Random shutdowns

For about a few weeks now my phone keeps shutting down in my pocket. It started doing while on miui gb, this rom had always been stable for me until the last 2 updates. I have recently flashed miui v4 and that was terrible, it shutdown 4-5 times in an hour. So now I have flashed aokp build 34 and I love this rom. But again this has shutdown in my pocket, only once so far though. Now could this be a software problem or hardware problem?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Sent from my Desire S using xda premium
My immediate thought from reading other threads over the months...
What are your undervoltage settings? Even the default settings in all ROMs tend to affect certain people different due to minor variances in hardware tolerances. It may be worth changing the UV to +25, +50 and try to tweak until it becomes more stable.
I've never under volt as tried it once and phone just wouldn't work, so you could be onto something. Maybe my phone is overly sensitive to voltages. I'll try it and post back here how it goes.
How will it affect battery life?
Sent from my Desire S using xda premium
I've been lucky that my phone seems to have been mostly happy with all ROMs at default, although I did add a +25 to Reaper after two random reboots in a week.
The battery changes from a minor change like that should be, well, minor. Still a lot better than saving battery by having the phone shut itself down
Your case strongly reminds me of the 'death pressure point's which I experience on my phone back in September.
(See my thread) I suffered the same issues as you for a month - blamed it on the phone not waking from sleep, but it turned put my battery was faulty, and not connecting properly.
Try applying some light pressure to the back of the phone, and see whether it will automatically turn off?

Oly,
Fancy adding a link to that thread? I don't remember that one so it could be a useful reminder.
Nope doesn't turn off. But I did read something like that a while back somewhere. It sort of makes a bit of sense as it only happens in my pocket I could leave it on the side all day and its fine.
How did you fix it was it the old 'pack it out with some paper' job. I remember doing that to a phone that had buttons, can you believe it a phone that had buttons!!!

Also does the ics tiamat kernal work fine with aokp as I would like to try the overvolting method but my kernal doesn't support it.

Sent a message to HTC, waiting for reply. Haven't overvolted as kernal doesn't support it and don't want to change to tiamat as everything works fine.
But.......
I did place a couple of folded rizlas between battery and clip and it hasn't shutdown since. Maybe after all the farting about removing battery and sim has took its toll on the clip. Anyway I'm happy running blind ice m5 with nearly no problems now.

I dont know if it's just me but i noticed that those stuff happen a LOT more on ICS roms.
(although did have this in older versions of Reaper,
Endymion, Virtuous and especially RunnyDroid, never happened on sense 3.0 roms)
also:
* OverVolting helps
* Overclocking helps
* Tiamat kernel makes it WORSE ( at least for CM9 & MIUI v4)
Try This
I had the same problem and i used to put a little piece of paper behind the battery
and i worked for me..
I was really curious when it started reboots and freezes on reaper. Never suffered from that before. on endymion I could even undervolt by -100.
On reaper I have to overvolt by 25 to be stable. Really strange

Overheating and should i buy a new device

hi guys,
overheating is a known problem of the sensation, and lots of people gave advices on solving this problem, here are the methods i tried:
under voltage
underclock(to1000Mhz)
buying a new battery
take off the case
etc....
but.....these methods DIDN'T WORK.
i dont play games at all, just use 3g data to browse the web and whatsapp and the phone just heat up instantly when i turn it on.
is there any possible methods that can keep my phone cool but i dont need to take it to the north pole? if i cant solve this annoying problem,i'm gonna buy a new phone.
if i really need to buy a new phone ,which one should i choose?i dont have much money

What's your ROM and kernel?
You should try different kernels and see how they work.
If you want a new phone now, I would probably buy the HTC one. Otherwise I would wait until the middle of may (to see what Google had unveiled at Google IO) to buy a new phone. Android 4.3 is supposed to be unveiled

i have tried many rom,such as arhd,viper s1.6.3, 3.0.1,miui jb....and i am now using albinoman887's cm10.1 apr26 build(without changing kernel and underclock to 1080mhz, 2d gpu200, 3d gpu 300).
and for kernels:sebsation's overclock,sultan kernel(sense) ,brick,PYD-X
hboot1.27,s-off,firmware 3.33
but i think is my phone 's problem, because whatever rom or kernel,i still need to put it into the fridge frequently.
btw,i have heard that the one x also have the heating problem, and its tregra processer seems slower than other processer(snapdragon ) running the same frequency. can anyone using the onex/x+ tell me if these problems exist?

Lol...40 c is nowhere near overheating... Overheating is like 50 C. Going up to 46-48 C is normal when you are gaming. 44-46 C is the range when I browse the internet/YouTube.
Anything above 55~60= sensation explodes
@sunnytse1 what is the temp of your battery when it "overheats"?

Ouch. Okay. But sometimes it gets hotter than 40. Like 46 upwards. Besides my battery last for only 3 to 4 hours when I browse d I get Dr and Twitter. Fb. And shii

I think 46-50 is pretty normal for heavy internet usage, but anything above 50 you should definitely give your sensation a rest because it can automatically shut down if it's too hot. Also, I wouldn't over clock your phone past 1.5/1.6 GHz.
3-4 hours on a stock is decent. If you need a better battery, I would buy the anker 1900 mAh. Since the stock sensation battery is only 1520 mAh(which is terrible), it's not that surprising to see it last only 3-4 hours. Your battery life also depends on the age of it. I would consider changing a battery if it is 2+ years old...

I'm not talking about battery overheating, but the cpu.i use kernel tuner to check the temp. ,average is 60c,and the highest is 83c.battery temp is always incorrect,25c????!!!!(what the hell?!?!?!)

Lol... 83 C? Is that even possible?
Can you post some screenshots?
I think 60 C is fine for the CPU processor, since the battery is only at about 41-42 C. The CPU temp should be higher than the battery temp so I think 60 is fine for the CPU. On the other hand, 83 is way too hot.

Well, like I said in my other post, there's a difference between CPU temp and battery temp. as long as your battery temp is not more than 60.
Of you want to keep your CPU temp low, then don't over clock your cpu too much ( or don't over clock at all). Also, don't overclock 2D or 3D GPU either. That might help lower the temps.
If you are getting crazy number for your temps 25 C for battery, I would try to erase battery stats in recovery mode (4EXT) even though people say that erasing the stats do absolutely nothing. Hopefully that helps. if that doesn't work, I would try sultans kernel with aroma installer so that you can customize your preferences.

Hmm... have you tried different ROMs? what about formatting all partitions and reflashing the ROM?
I'm running out of ideas... The last I can think of is full/partial wake locks, but that is not completely relevant either. See if you have a certain app that is constantly running in the background. If you need a helpful app, I would try wakelock detector from the Google play store...

Damn this thing gets hot!

Playing games is usually the culprit, but my nexus sometimes gets hot even after web browsing... How hot does your Nexus 5 get??
I can't say mine gets hot... I use Faux Kernel with the recommended settings and also undervolt my phone. You can also fiddle (lower) with the max frequencies for the CPU and GPU to your liking. You'll often find that you have more than enough power to handle games and can reduce the frequencies quite a bit.

I dont want to mess around with Kernels and Root just yet.. Once the big ROM's start to pick up speed and become stable thats an option... Hoping Google brings out a software update to reduce the heat, and do something about the Camera, I honestly think if this had a Camera app which was optimised for the Camera it would be better than the S4 and the likes, when you put the S4 on a fully stock rom, the pictures are horrible, on the Nexus 5 they're just average... If it had the S4 Camera App who knows what it would be like!

Have some faith in the Devs. There are a couple of ROMs and Kernels that are perfectly stable. Thanks to the Faux kernel I have seen a ton of improvements over stock when it comes to performance and battery life.
I came from the HTC One and my nexus hasn't gotten near as hot as that would get.
