Hey guys! Here's a very nice & easy-to-use tool for those who are new to android development.
As you all know, every developer needs testers not only to reports bugs but also to provide him with all the information on how,when and what went wrong, in other words, logs. In geek language, it is called logcats.
A logcat is a text file in which all the information about device is saved from its OS boot. But it is kind of difficult/confusing for beginners to get the logcats. This tool helps you to get logcats without any commads, just with the press of a button.

New and improved!!!
UPDATE 4.1
Corrected an issue causing empty files.
DOWNLOAD
apparently, if the process id contained a space ( 1234) the file would parse correctly, but if the numbers came up to the parenthesis (12345) it would output an empty file named ACTIVITY(12345) with no extension.
This was a huge issue, and i apologize for not seeing it sooner. It has been corrected, and the logcat tool works better than ever. I just ran through a 20,000 line logcat without any empty files appearing.
a couple more things to help with stability.
Underscores (_) will be replaced by dashes (-)
Brackets ([]) and arrows (<>) will be replaced with parenthesis(())
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HUGE UPDATE
Added the ability to "SUPER PARSE" Files, which separates files into folders by log level and creates a TXT file for each activity
EX.
.[OUTPUT FOLDER]-->
.....[DEBUG LEVEL FOLDER] --->
............... BACKUPMANAGER.TXT
............... SURFACFLNGER.TXT
................ETC...
Super parse DOES NOT Work with LONG format Logs.
SUPER PARSE is in its infancy I do expect errors, please let me know if you run into anything.
NOW PROPERLY PARSES "LONG" FORMAT LOGCATS.
Thank you to Senior Member jes0411 for pointing out the issues that lead me to create V3.4 and 3.5. If any of you have an issue please let me know. It could be hours before i get to it or weeks, but i will get to fixing it.
EDIT V3.1 DONE
https://code.google.com/p/logcat-tool/downloads/list
FIXED OPTIONS 7 & 8, URLS WERE MISSING A "?"
CHANGELOG EDITS
SAVES AND PARSES FILES IN TO DIFFERENT OUPUT FILES BASED ON LOG LEVEL (E , I , D , W , ETC)
EDIT V3.4 DONE
Changed the way the date variable was handled to hopefully fix issues experienced by users of non-English versions of windows.
NEW VERSION OF LOGCAT TOOL!!!
GREATLY IMPROVED.!!!
Many bug and typo fixes.
Now Saves Settings.
Easy XDA option adds
Code:

F.A.Q
Q: Which versions of .NET Framework do i have?"
A: Navigate with the Windows explorer to "%systemroot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework". There you can see some folders with the version of .NET Framework as their names.
Q: If I try to start the exe file i get this error: "Application failed to initialize (0x0000135)"
A: Your .NET Framework version is too old. Download version 3.5 here.
Q: If I try to start the exe file i get this error: "unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application"
A: That means that you have installed .NET Framework 4.0. But 4.0 hasn't include 3.5. Download version 3.5 here.
Will be checking this out! Looks cool.
Looks like a really handy little tool! Nice job.
IMO you could make the window a lot smaller.
Maybe I will make the window smaller in the next version. But maybe there will be new features which need that space
Be aware that certain kernels have exposed an issue with HTC Sync Windows driver and caused reboots upon plugging in via USB.
On the kernel end most devs have resolved it - but there may be some people out there that haven't encountered it yet or updated their kernel.
No need to panic - it's a known issue.
In case it happens to anyone in your thread.
Nice but scary to use! I think I'll wait for others to use and report back.

What are the options in the tool you are afraid of?
I think you can't break (or brick) your device with this tool. If you flash a wrong radio rom, the device should have a backup from the right one.
Version 1.2 is up! Have fun
The version 1.2.1, which fixes a huge bug in v1.2, is up now!
ill have to check this out!
Hey guys
The version 1.3 is up now. With multi language!
So it would be great if you guys could translate it to your language!
I uploaded version 1.3.1 which fixes a bug where "Fix permissions" wasn't working.
Okay...
I think a beta version with featurse to flash custom roms, nandroid, and wipe should be ready tomorrow. So I need a few beta testers, before I release the version officially!
If anyone is interested in testing the new features, please contact me!
regards
Very cool tool. (Or actually, compilation of tools.) Looking forward to how it gets developed. Good work.
It would be awesome if the flashing rom feature becomes available soon! Still waiting for the beta to become official!
I could really need a few testers more, that I don't publish a tool which doesn't work..
Please contact me if you want to help! (you will be mentioned in the OP )
could u make this to work on mac??
whats is the idea behind this tool. I see it talks about copy files to and from and some adb etc. Is it like android wonder machine I mean as in transferring .apks files also
[GUIDE NOT FOR NOOBIES][HOW-TO][WINDOWS ONLY] Fix custom font "question mark" problem
Hello again!
As you may know, almost every custom font has got this problem. These strange question marks (or other) that appears very often in many places with text.
In my favourite custom font called Zrnic this symbol looked like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
In my case this was mainly appearing:
- in YT apk while reading comments:
- in Titanium Backup Pro while browsing app list:
- and even when receiving SMS:
Finally I got pissed off and thought about fixing this annoying bug.
While I was browsing some threads on the Internet I've found a little bit tricky way how to get rid of it. I wasn't sure about the 100% success on Android but I've tried this fix and IT WORKED!
This guide will be the step-by-step one mainly because the program you will use to fix the font bug is in Japanese. Personally I don't know it but it was easy to intuitively do some clicks
I warn you - this is not for noobies, only advanced users should proceed as I probably won't do any video guide soon.
----------------------------------------
Files you need:
- Font Installer *ROOT* by JRUMMY16 - install this program and find yourself some nice font.
- .ttf file with your bugged font (for Font Installer *ROOT* the directory for the font is sd/romtoolbox/fonts/previews
- Japanese version of fontforge ported to cygwin. THIS WORKS ONLY ON WINDOWS!
Optional (if link above doesn't work):
http://www.geocities.jp/meir000/fontforge/ - file called "fontforge-cygwin_2011_06_06.zip (20MB)"
Things you need to do:
1. Download your .ttf file to your computer.
2. Download ported fontforge to your computer.
3. Unpack fontforge-cygwin_2011_06_06.zip and open that folder.
4. Run fontforge.bat and wait PATIENTLY for the cmd to unpack all the files you need and start the program. It takes a minute or more. Just wait.
5. Finally you will see this window
6. Select your .ttf file directory from the expandable menu and open that .ttf file
7. After opening .ttf file you will see this window
8. Scroll up until you see this. Select the very first symbol called "space". Mostly it's to the left of exclamation mark. Click on that symbol and press CTRL+C
9. Now a little bit hard part. Scroll down until you see this (help yourself a bit by clicking to different symbols until you find "U+FEFF")
10. While highliting this symbol, press CTRL+V. Congrats! You have almost fixed your problem!
11. Right-click on this symbol and select this option
12. Change EVERY VARIABLE TO "0"! And click OK.
13. Now you only have to generate your new .ttf file. Click these things.
14. Rename your font to "FontName"-Fixed.ttf and from the expandable menu right under the file name select TrueType. Click on the button with "somethingjapanese"(S).
Then click this
15. Congrats! Font generated! You can close the window, click on the X button on the top and select this option
Ok, that's all with font editing. Now some work with your phone.
1. Backup your original .ttf file with non-fixed font somewhere else.
2. Change "FontName"-Fixed.ttf to "FontName".ttf
3. Place this font back to sd/romtoolbox/fonts/previews OVERWRITING ORIGINAL FONT WITH THE FIXED ONE.
4. Run Font Installer *ROOT*.
5. Find again your font, tap it and select install (don't delete it because you will have to oerwrite it again!).
6. Reboot and... enjoy your fixed font
If you did everything right after reboot you should see this:
IF THIS HELPED YOU, CLICK THANKS!
The link to fontforge doesn't work
Found it somewhere else, and done it
BEFORE: .................................................. ................................. AFTER:
I'm glad that helped you too. I don't know why you couldn't download fontforge from provided link so I've added new one - original site with that file.

I have to disagree. If you are putting in a custom font, I would call that part of theming. This is just a how-to on how to fix unrecognized characters in font packs you were to apply. A rather handy explanation of what is going wrong and how to fix it. Well done in my opinion.
I feel awfully lazy for doing this, but since a) I don't have access to a Windows computer, and b) FontForge on OSX does not allow me to copy-paste the space symbol, I am kindly asking you to fix these fonts for me.

Thanks for including this guide. I have been puzzling over this problem for some time now and you've taken a lot of trouble to show us how to fix it
I've created a GUI utility for reading, editing and creating YAFFS2 images that hopefully people will find useful. You can read Android system and data partitions and modify them how you like. Import and export files to and from the images. The tool is up on Google Code with source, written in Qt 4.8.1.
http://code.google.com/p/yaffey
Features
- Create new YAFFS2 image
- Open existing image
- Export files/directories from image
- Import files into image (permissions inherited from parent directory, dates created/modified/accessed set to current date & time)
- Delete files
- Edit filenames
- Edit permissions
- Edit user and group ids
- Edit symbolic link aliases
- ECC (Error Checking & Correction) support
New in v0.2
Added import dialog to choose to import file(s) or a directory
Added support to import multiple files
Added support to import 1 directory at a time (using dialog)
Added drag & drop importing (which supports multiple directories & files!)
Added support to delete more than one item at a time
Added summary dialog after saving an image
Added text below icons in toolbar at the request of varun.chitre15!
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

I've been using it to modify the stock system image for my Xperia Play. You can easily add/remove APKs etc. It's a nice alternative to the unyaffs/mkyaffs command line tools.
It has limitations but am happy to extend the functionailty if it's found to be useful...
Wow!!
Was looking for this since ages
Thanks a lot
This is indeed useful
Burned from my laser torch using pencil cells
Hi varun, that's good news. Spread the word! I've been wanting to reply to some threads about YAFFS images and tools etc but can't post in most forums yet... Need to spend some time on here to get my post count up I guess.
I'm planning on adding more features to the app like adding su, superuser.apk & busybox with a few clicks for easy rooting and a GUI for fastboot for easy flashing to make the whole image editing and rooting process as easy as possible.
Great!!!
Can u add a feature to make images directly from a flashable zip?
Thanks!!
Burned from my laser torch using pencil cells
Here is the suggestion list
1. Add support for adding multiple files at once while creating image file
2. Add support to add folders inside image fle
3. Add Drag and drop if possible
4. In the tool bar of the tool, can u add the text below the icons as it is somewhat difficult to identify which option does what and to see its function I had to move mouse over the buttons
5. Add support for EXT2, EXT4 images too
Your tool is very great

I haven't tested it with any Windows based images. The dates created, accessed and modified are stored differently and the user and groups IDs aren't used. The app currently doesn't handle this. This won't affect exporting data from the image but if you're adding files then when the image is used the dates will be very wrong.
I'd be interested to know what you're experience of using it with Windows images is like!

I'm not sure what signature you're referring to. If it's similar to Sony Ericsson's .sin files that contain extra data at the start of the file before the YAFFS2 image then currently the tool doesn't handle this, only pure YAFFS2 images.
Here's the link http://code.google.com/p/yaffey/
Very nice.
Having the ability to sort the displayed results would be useful.
Good work, thanks
Hi guys,
Here is third version of my ROM Tools PC Version (Automatic decompile classes.dex file to edit smali content) exclusively for Galaxy Y and Galaxy Ace I
Why it is here now? Because it may be the case that this version only works on Gingerbread, or only on Galaxy Devices or maybe only on Ace and Y. So, I decided to release it here first.
Totally tested for every feature and bug free, it is now loaded with new awesome features.

Version 3
8 May 2013
-Added many new features
-Option to reboot
-Option to recovery
-Option to Hot Reboot
-Option to view and save logcat with nice integration of verbose and long command
-Option to fix permissions
-Option to RESET PASSWORD of pattern lock or passwork or pin
-Added a small Easter egg
Version 2
18 April 2013
- Changed it from a script to multi tool
- Added folders for convenience
- Made eye candy
- Made it noob proof
- It's like changing Baichung Bhutiya to Lionel Messi
Version 1
- Just one smali.bat file and one baksmali.bat file with one one line each of commands to Baksmaling and Smaling (duh!)
PHP:
I am not responsible for your device being dead,
you flashing stock ROM,
you using your device as a brick,
or the decrease in love of your Girlfriend because you use your mobile so much
What does it do?
As you are aware, there are smali files in jar files and apks you need to edit for adding 4-way boot into power menu, extending Power options, changing clock colour, adding CRT effect, changing the pop up that comes up when you touch the easter egg image, adding brightness slidebar, adding lidroid toggles, etc and so manyyyy things
In order to edit them, you need to decompile apk and classes.dex
It is not a problem in editing smali files of apk as they are decompiled itself by APK-Multitool(I use it)
But, it does not work for jar files
I know that there is smali.jar and baksmali.jar for it but I don't like repeatedly commading same operations when I can do it with one click
This program decompiles and recompiles classes.dex from any jar or apk in one click(very useful when you only need to decompile dex file only)
However, it's main objective is to recompile and decompile classes.dex only, but I added few more option to make it really a full fledged ROM Tool
Expect a few more features in upcoming releases

*Java JDK(or JRE) (If you are running Windows 7 64 bit, you may need to add Java in environment variable)
*7-Zip (For in zip operations[pull out classes.dex])
*classes.dex file(on which you will operate)
*Android Phone to be connected to PC with USB Debugging on to use features other than decompiling and recompiling
Guide:-
Main Options
1. Download my Tool.
2. Extract it in any folder.
3. Place classes.dex in the input folder. DO NOT RENAME IT.
4. Run script.bat. Choose Option 1, Decompile classes.dex . In a few seconds, there will be a prompt that it is "Done. Press anykey to continue" (Note:- If you have UAC [User Account Control] on, you may run it as administrator or it might not be able to create folder if you have extracted it in System Drive)
5. Go to decompiled folder. There will BE classout folder. Make any changes in smali in classout folder(ALWAYS USE NOTEPAD++). DO NOT RENAME CLASSOUT FOLDER.
6. Again open script.bat if you had closed it or if not, then return to the window.
7. Choose 2 option "Compile classes.dex" . A new classes.dex will be formed in output folder.
8. Enjoy
Note:- Once you change things in classout folder, and you decompile another classes.dex, previous version in decompiled folder will be deleted. So if you want backup of it, move it somewhere else
Same thing will happen to classes.dex on output folder when you compile another one.
Other options
1. Connect you phone to PC with USB Debugging on and not on USB Tethering. Make sure you aren't using adb before using the tool. If so, Go to Alt+Ctrl+Del and to Task Manager and close adb.exe process
2. Choose the option what you want.
a) Logcat, either view or save it
If you view it, a window will appear with logcat in it. If you are done, just close that window
If you save it, it will be saved in the same folder where Script.bat is present. To stop saving it, Press Ctrl+C and type Y and press Enter
b) Reboot, may take some time in rebboting and rebooting in recovery.
c) Fix permissions and Reset password
3. Try to find Easter Egg
Download:-
ROMToolsPCv3.zip
Woah !
Good Job !
btw Easter egg in app ?
---
Instead of ctrl + alt + del combo
you can use ctrl + shift + esc
it brings up only the task manager
Thanks OP. Can you add an option to go to download (odin) mode . I really need that coz my vol- button got broken. Anyway this tool is really great.
Awesome tool
Doesn't it require ADB support? I mean, I haven't heard of another way of rebooting a phone or putting it into recovery mode via terminal.
Or does this have ADB and related tools included?
Good job! Thanks for the great work! :good:
Yes
All adb and other required items are included
And sure thing, will add download mode in next release. I don't know why I didn't add it in this release?
Please report any bugs
And please do suggest what should be added in next release
Here too!
Kudos broda :good: :thumbup::thumbup:

Reserved. Don't ask why.
doesnt seem to work with me - it cant establish an adb connection with my phone
no problems using other adb tools
if I run adb devices from a cmd promp it detects my phone
also each time I run the program it asks me to keep replacing files then it brings up an error about adb files (but these files are in the folder)
iv attached screenshots
edit
ok so iv done some more testing - turns out this app wont work if you have an adb emulator installed - for example if you have bluestacks installed make sure you end task it or exit the programme before running this else it wont work as it will get confused between the physical adb device and the emulator
Still get the error messages about files and asking to replace files at each start up
once I disabled the emulator it works fine in terms of connection however the screen shot feature I still cant seem to make work
It now says it has successfully taken a screenshot but the screenshot is not in the folder
edit again - ok so you put the screenshot bug in your pdf file as a bug but it would be helpful if you actually put the bugs on the op of this thread
Your screenshot prog looks just like ADB ScreenCapture by majdinj xda - it gives exactly the same read outs
The android screen monitor is basically a copy of droidATScreen which I have put in the attachment however droidAtScreen can also take screenshots and continuous screenshots too
Well Done!! GONNA TRY THIS.
Great work
gonna try this good work

You are not typing "x" to exit. So integrated cleanup is not executed. So you get that overwrite error.
Now delete all files (except toolkit exe and readme) and try again.
I ask you to go through Readme file which explains bugs and why they are in programme.
My programme is much similar to majdini's because ff2png (file used to take screenshot in recovery) used by him and me is taken from same source (GPLv2 licenced).
Also screenshot terminal command is universal for all androids.
I didn't knew about majdini's programme. But when you mentioned it, I checked his one. My commands are differently expressed (commands same as explained above, but code is different). If you use his code sometimes there is error.
But my code does not give error in batch format.
(but problem is after exe conversion, this has a bug. Check readme for more info).

to aviod the error of the adb files you have to run program as administrator
you should include run as admin in your exe file in future builds
Sorry bro, real bad CMD to EXE converter you use, I could easily find your .bat file here:
EDIT: Removed.
as far as your ADB device select is concerned use the command (adb.exe -d) this will direct the adb to the first USB ANDROID ADB Device
and I would like to know Setup program you used...
