sony tablet s downgrading - General Questions and Answers

hi i could use a little help, i'm trying to downgrade the tablet from a ics firmware that was created using condi's all in one tool but that somehow lost root in the process, i'm supposed to try installing a prior version and halfway from it hold down vol+ button to enter recovery and wipe before the process ends, the problem is holding vol+ down doesn't bring me to the recovery tool and i don't know what i can do anymore

[Q] TWRP flashed and now I can not get in to FASTBOOT

HTC One X Rogers
On the weekend I unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP 2.4.1.0 using Hasoon Tool Kit. Problem is that TWRP is running and will not go away. Cannot shut phone off, Cannot get original ROM up and running (was it dumped when TWRP was flashed?), when I try the power button and volume down to go to FASTBOOT all I get is three blinking icons at bottom (back, home and all screens).
To topi it all off because I used CWM recovery for my Nexus One and it has ROMS available I did not think of downloading one so that TWRP could flash it.
Can anyone give me some direction to go to get this back up?
I have been on a few forums, those I have used before with success getting answers, but so far no one has offered suggestions. And yes, I am a newb but need to start somewhere..
ANY help is very much appreciated.
Hold down power only until buttons flash at least ten times. Press and hold vol-down. Release power, still holding vol-down. You should reboot into bootloader. From there, use buttons to get into recovery.
You're going to want to downgrade twrp to 2.3.x as later versions have some issues.

This seems to also work with QHSUSB_DLOAD semi bricks from flashing bad kernels.
Thanks.
Now for the next step.

Thanks, that got me in to recovery. Is TWRP the recovery of choice or will CWM recovery work as well?
I appreciate you getting back with the correct way to get into recovery.

I have never used cwm so I can't say how it works now. The most recent version is official and should work. But twrp is the most popular one on this phone.

CWM vs TWRP
Thanks for the reply.
I will move forward with the TWRP recovery.

Restoring stock ROM

Apologies for dumb questions but I am really newbie with Sony phones (I know my way around HTCs though).
I have the Xperia Z3 Dual (D6633). After some reading, I've managed to unlock bootloader, installed TWRP recovery and rooted the phone.
My wife somehow locked the phone without memorizing password and the brightest idea I've had was to perform factory reset. Accidentally, I have managed to perform a full wipe, wiping everything except mSD card (I have experience with CWM recoveries but not with TWRP). I did not backup software before accidental wipe.
Phone obviously wont boot but I am having hard time to get to recovery as well, phone just hangs with TWRP recovery logo on the screen.
The first step I intend to perform is to try to re-flash recovery again a go from there.
My intention is to restore stock ROM using Flashtool and d6633_23.0.f.1.74_1288-7362_r8b_ru.ftf
I've read how to enter appropriate boot mode, however, I am not sure witch one to choose for Flashtool to work. BTW, is it possible to restore stock software using Sony PC Companion software?
Can anyone point me in a right direction? A simple guide to follow to in order to get out of this tough situation?
Download your desired firmware and install latest flash tool on your computer.
Copy the downloaded firmware on to the flash tool folder which can be found on your C drive.
Hold volume up and power together till your phone vibrates thrice (power shut down)
Now open flash tool, select flash mode and then your firmware. Now press start.. You will see animation there asking you to connect your device.
Hold your phone's "down volume button" and connect it to the computer. Flash tool will recognize the device and starts flashing. Wait for it to finish.
Boot your device and you are good to go!

Success! Thank you for your hand holding.
Order of steps to get the phone to flash mode was slightly different in my case though. When I pressed volume up and power key the device did not react. Repeating the same process with USB cable inserted worked. When pressing volume down the phone was tying to get to recovery but then it hanged there. In the end when Flashtool asked me to connect the phone, I've kept pressing volume down key with phone turned off and inserted USB cable and it got recognized and software got flashed in the end. BTW, Flashtool does't contain drivers for Z3 yet, therefore I've installed drivers for Z1 / Z2 in addition to flashmode and fastboot drivers.
Currently I am updating software trough Sony Update and then I will check if bootloader is still unlocked ant will try to get to recovery. If no luck I will reflash recovery.
Thank you again!
P.S. I've noticed that there are slightly different application included in this ROM. FTF file in these forums is a slightly different version that came with my phone originally. It might be useful to get more versions of FTFs for D6633 model uploaded...

Cannot install TWRP over Huawei eRecovery??

I am unable to install TWRP over the huawei eRecovery.
>I first unlocked the bootloader by using fastboot OEM command
>then installed TWRP. Tried all the versions that i found for mate 8. I get a message "OKAY"
> Then I get a message saying that I have to press the up vol button to go to recovery. And when I try to go to the recovery window I see Huwaei's recovery and not TWRP. I cant use TWRP manager for this as it will not work until I have rooted my phone. SuperSu through playstore does not work. How will I proceed with rooting and installing TWRP. I am stuck !!
Is there any application like ODIN for huawei? That always worked, no matter what went wrong. Please help!!!!!!
I guess I am using the international version
ure going about this all wrong mate
as already explained in the other thread, u cant enter twrp that way. if u press power up in the start screen ull always end up in the erecovery, no matter which regular recovery u have flashed.
easiest way to enter regular recovery is to install flashify from the playstore and choose to reboot phone into recovery

When the phone is off, hold on the volume + & power button at the same time. When the screen flashes on, quickly remove your fingers from the said key presses and it should boot into twrp. If you hold them too long it will boot into erecovery. If you want to reboot into twrp recovery when the phone is already on, then you will have to get an app like quick reboot or flash a Rom which has that option.

This.
Power plus volume down does nothing, TWRP-wise. However that is whta's being said to press in 99% of the threads/tutorials.
Took me HOURS and countless re-flashing of TWRP to figure this out myself. (the up *plus* down thingy). Really annoying.

Well, I have a question. What is the eRecovery, because I've seen this screen also and I dont know what it does. Also, there are three options in it: download latest version and recovery, reboot and shutdown. So if I press download latest version and recovery what will happen? Because I'm actually looking for a way to get off TWRP without having to lose any data (I want to install the latest OTA, but I've seen that TWRP doesn't support well those, and I don't want to mess up my phone)...
Please help!
easy: download a stock rom identical to your current version, extract recovery partition using the huawei app extractor from the rom's update.app file and then flash that through fastboot
and since u probably have no idea what im talking about, i suggest u use google and xda search functions before asking any further questions here dont be lazy and expect everyone to work for you and serve everything on a silver platter, do your due diligence!

Hi, simply press Volume up an down at same time when device is powering up...and hold it, until Twrp logo is on the screen. Works always for me.

And just for the complete list:
Volume up + power AND USB plugged in goes into eRecovery (or TWRP, if you flashed TWRP to RECOVERY2 instead to RECOVERY)
Volume up and down + power and USB plugged in forces update via USB (indicated by a little USB-like icon in the recovery circle. The progess bar goes to 5% and waits for input from your PC)
True, when usb is attached

Totally lost, nothing works can't get back to stock

Hey guys...... i'm lost wih this phone..
I followed the guide on unlocking and rooting the nokia and now i'm stuck.
I followed each step without any issues so i don't get it..
First i unlocked the bootloader
I sideloaded TWRP and flashed magisk
Rebooted and flashed TWRP..... no problems there..
Reboot again and it goes straight to TWRP...
Did a factory reset.... Still boots directly to TWRP
Tried to flash stock rom with OST, selected the nb0 files.... and connected the phone when it asked.....i see a progress bar but it doesn't move at all
Tried SP flash tool, that doesn't work at all, as soon as i connect my phone after loading the scatter file i get an error:
ERROR: S_BROM_BROM_DOWNLOAD_DA_FAIL (2004)
I rooted and flashed many many phones but never had so much issues as with this one...
I hope anyone can help me out, i can get into bootloader and recovery
After much trying i finally succesfully flashed back to stock and it boots again in android....
But i can't get the phone in fastboot anymore, when i press volume up and power on it just boots into android
I'm done for now, it works but what a terrible phone to mess with.....

Magisk rooting issue - Recovery erases itself

Hi,
I've recently gone to rooting my Note 10, I've managed to get the bootloader unlocked. I've followed the rooting instructions with Magisk via flashing with ODIN and then doing a factory reset in recovery.
Basically, whenever ODIN is done, and I try to enter recovery for the first time, it just displays 'erasing' for a second, the phone reboots, and root and magisk don't seem to work. I'm fairly sure I followed instructions to the T. Any idea what could be causing the issue? My phone is the 970F variant. I'm using the latest (android 10) firmware with Magisk and then flashing the processed file.
Thanks!
You should keep holding volume up and power. Don't release any of button when flashing is done and phone is reboot.
Best way is to disable auto reboot in Odin and when modified firmware is flashed, simply reboot by holding vol down and power key together.
As soon as screen goes black. Relase vol down and press vol up and power key. Let the erasing do, don't release buttons at any stage. You will get into recovery.
