how uninstall cwm - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please please help me how I can uninstall cwm and back to the orginle
Recovery

Not to be nosy or anything, but are you planning to get rid of cwm because you are returning your xoom back to stock? If you still intend on being rooted, I would not recommend removing cwm, because it could really be a life saver.
However, to get rid of cwm and get the stock recovery back, you will need to get the official stock fastboot flashable images from developer.Motorola.com for your specific xoom. its a big download, but once downloaded, unzip the zip, and then with a terminal/command prompt, do
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Make sure you have USB debugging enabled before you do this. And that should give you the stock recovery.

If interested, here's everything you need to go 100% stock.

[Q] I installed whispercore without creating a restore image and want to leave.

I'm having trouble getting back to a regular non locked down firmware. I flashed whispercore without fully understanding that it was actually in fact changing my entire rom.
I didnt even think to try and install CWM first to create a recovery image I need help getting out of this mess. I've used the Whispercore installer to unlock fastboot because whispercore relocks your fastboot after it does its thing.
Seems as though the stock sdk tools hated me for a while there and wouldnt detect my device than I later realised it was just because the sdk downloads itself all fragmented it basically took fastboot and adb and separated the two even though fastboot requires adb to function properly. I wont even begin to speculate as to why that happened, as thats beyond the scope of my question.
I basically have gotten to the point where i have Clock work mod (CWM) installed on my droid and the fastboot oem unlocked but am currently stuck at trying to get Cyanogenmod 7 stable on here.
***UPDATE**
Ok. This situation has been resolved. If you are having trouble with leaving whisper core and you've flashed a bunch of stuff trying desperately trying to fix this issue. Recognize the nexus S is a very easy device to fix. Fastboot is your saviour and the WhisperCore installer will even be kind enough to install all the drivers required to OEM unlock fastboot and do it for you.
Anyways the solution was: Re run the whispercore installer. Let it do its automagic.
Than flash a new Clockwork Mod recovery image this thread provided some clean Clockwork Mod images for flashing with fastboot that link is also for rooting but provides a good example for how to flash a new recovery.
Than Just reboot into recovery and use it to mount your phone via the Clockwork Mod recovery console to your computer, upload your favorite flavor of rom and than unmount the device. Once unmounted go back to the main menu in Clockwork mod and "Flash zip from SD" look for your rom in my case it was update-cm-7.0.3-NS-signed.zip Latest stable at the time. let it do its job.
Basically my issue was a combination of several factors. A bad Clockwork mod and a semi corrupt installation of SDK tools and Whispercore.
Possibly a stock firmware might be required first I just know that trying to straight flash cm7 stable from cwm is not working out.
you can get adb and the 2 dll files and fastboot in the same folder and cd to that directory. fastboot oem unlock should unlock your bootloader. then you should be able to flash a recovery if you want. might also want to check out the 1 click stock thread to see if that works.
I will probably have trouble finding this thread but I will look and if i come up with anything I will certainly post my findings.
This should work. But we shall see I will update the original post if I find a full solution.
Just flash a stock full rom (for i9023 you can use the one in my signature, don't forget get to use the wipe options in cwm recovery before) and the root should be gone. Afterwards, boot into bootloader and use fastboot command "fastboot oem lock" to lock the bootloader again. Than you can do a factory reset (and delete usb storage) to fully restore stock "experience".

I am trying to follow what you did and i am completely lost... I have a nexus s g that i am trying to get whispercore off it!
The "Automagic" you talk about. Isnt that just whispercore putting it in fast boot??? If so then then how do you use the recover image?

[Q] Can't access root and Google apps

I recently rooted my phone (T-Mobile US Nexus S) and installed the 4.0.3 OTA update from this thread, but now I cannot access any Google apps or get root access on any of the apps that require it.

Ok! first download : http://www.4shared.com/zip/XG506hyV/icsroot-fastboot-recovey.html
just unpack, connect your device and click run.bat.....Good luck!
I ran the .bat, but I get an error saying "Device already rooted", but it is still not recognized as rooted by SuperUser.
Alternatively, is it possible to completely wipe the phone of everything (including root) so I can start over with a fresh phone?
Of course you can, and might be the best idea if you don't mind doing it.
Make sure you have the latest CWM recovery on your phone, download the FULL ROM from this thread (i'm not american so i don't know exactly, but from what i know yours is the I9020T, so get that ROM) and copy it to the SDCard. Now go into recovery, wipe system/data and dalvik cache, then flash the ROM.
Do make sure you have the right ROM though. This will get you 100% fresh and untouched 4.0.3. You can probably clear out any non-personal folders on the sdcard too, but that shouldn't do any harm anyway.
After this, use the attached file from this thread to root, and feel free to update root/superuser.
Actually, that's what I did...I can't use CWM recovery because its displaying an error of no root. So how do I wipe this or fix CWM?
Is your boot loader unlocked? And are you trying to flash cwm through fastboot?
Note to backup your sdcard if unlocking the bootloader.

My bootloader is apparently unlocked and I'm trying to flash through fastboot.
Are you sure the following is satisfied:
-open padlock and google logo on boot
-fastboot (on phone) says "bootloader status: unlocked" or something of the like
-you are using: "fastboot flash recovery "C:\path\to\recovery.img""
-you are using the above command while connected to the PC via USB (with working drivers) and that you are in fastboot mode on the phone (turn off phone --> hold Vol. Up then hold Power TOGETHER for about 2 seconds, should give you reboot and recovery options)
It is necessary to be in the bootloader/fastboot interface on the phone when you run the command. Hopefully it was something simple that i said above, otherwise i'm completely lost.
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. I didn't use that method to root...
4. I'll try that.
3 is just flashing recovery, that is the code u type into cmd/terminal to reflash the recovery img. It isn't rooting the phone. 4 is how to get into the mode on the phone to use the command.
Its a bit confusing at first but makes much more sense once you do it one or two times.
Where do I go to get the recovery image?
The latest ClockWorkMod Recovery can be found on this page. Just scroll down to Nexus S and download 5.0.2.0 crespo .img. Then just direct fastboot to the folder you have it saved in while using the "fastboot flash recovery C:\path\to\recovery.img" command.
Ok. I've tried this, but in command prompt, I get the following error:
C:\Users\Bruce>fastboot flash recovery C:\Users\Bruce\Downloads\recovery.img
'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Check out this rooting guide, however only go up to step 5 (and do NOT type "fastboot oem unlock", do everything up until that point). This will setup fastboot for you, and setup drivers for your computer. Once this is done, do what you did above and it should work successfully.
Remember to cd (change directory) in cmd to where you unzipped that folder.
There isn't a link...
Sorry, stuffed that up. I fixed the link in my previous post pointing to NexusSHacks - How to Root Nexus S.
It's worked, but when I try to go to the recovery menu, the Google/unlocked padlock screen freezes or it displays an Android with its chest compartment open and a red triangular ! symbol.
I just had a really long reply and managed to lose it by closing the page..
That's the stock bootloader you see there, it probably didnt flash or you rebooted your phone. And make sure that you are flashing the latest CWM you downloaded before.
I flashed the latest CWM, but when I try to go to recovery, my phone freezes at the Google logo with the unlocked padlock.
Have you tried flashing it again, or maybe redownloading the file? And of course making sure it is the NEXUS S version which you are downloading.
Alternatively, try just "fastboot boot recovery.img", replacing recovery.img with the full name and path of cwm.
edit: btw, i'll be gone for an hour or two Bruce so i can answer any more questions/issues when i get back

[Q] Stuck at the t_mobile splash screen

OK. So, I was going to root my wifes Mytouch slide 4g. I have rooted several phones in the past and never had an issue. I got i unlocked, I flashed clockwork, but I couldn't get s-off.
I used unrevoked, but it kept telling me it wouldn't work with the current software/update #.
I went to install CM9, everything seemed to go OK, then it wouldn't start.
Now, I have gone back to the stock images and they act like they are being applied in HBOOT....the status bar starts filling up, etc...but nothing happens. It doesn't ask if I want to apply the update, etc.
I have searched, and searched, and I am out of ideas. I really wanted to root this for her and put a decent ICS ROM on it, but at this point I would be happy simply getting the phone to come back on at all. Please help! Thanks.
When flashing CM9, did you flash the kernel separate since you couldn't get S-off?
No I didn't.
I actually tried flashing back to stock recovery and now cannot get clockwork back on there. If I remember correctly I can push it with ADB, right?
you push with (make sure you extract the boot.img from the rom and put in the same directory as your cmd windows) type:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
I'm stupid. That worked! THANKS!
no problem... also to flash cwm, DL this file and rename the file to recovery.img then put it in the same directory as your cmd window as before then type:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot

I can't install clockworkmod recovery on nexus s 4g

I rooted my NS4G running stock ics but I get an error when try to flash cwm recovery using ROM Manager. Any advise, I need help please.thanks
Galaxy Note
I'm assuming you unlocked via fastboot? You might be better off flashing the recovery image through there instead. You'll have better luck that way:
Snag the recovery image from here
Make sure the file is in the same location as adb. Turn your phone off and then power it on to the bootloader screen (pwr + vol up). Once there, open your command prompt, attach the phone via USB, and type fastboot devices to make sure your phone is recognized. Once you're okay there, proceed to type
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-crespo4g.img, this is assuming you haven't changed the name of the image. You can copy it and paste it as well.
Once you get the recovery image flashed, you'll need to ensure that the stock recovery doesn't replace CWM. Steps can be found in

Use fastboot to install you stock ROM again. Dont use adb push, you can install it from your computer. Then install the correct TWRP for your bootloader and get back to your favorite custom Rom

Can I use a stock rom with twrp recovery?
Also for stock rom, its says to use the right rom with my SKU version. But I cant boot to find the sku....

When you restart you device and go to the recovery menu, and the top left corner where it says the device is unlocked, there will be the bootloader version. You need that to install the correct TWRP and stock ROM for your device.
When you get that stock ROM, take the stock ROM, extract the *.blob file. Copy that to your fastboot folder.
Restart your tablet and go to fastboot.
Now in CMD, type:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system blob.blob
It will take about ~300 seconds if you did it right.
You can find the stock ROMs in the index thread in developer forum.
