I'm looking for an app that will let me stream music that I have saved on my computer to my TF over my home network. I have my network all set up for sharing and everything. I've been using File Expert and more recently Antek to stream videos over SMB, which is all well and good, but it kind of sucks for music when I can only stream one file at a time. I'd like something that I can designate a network location as a music library and then have access to all of my music and so on and so forth. Does such a thing exist? Even if I have to use a program on the PC in conjunction with the app, that would be super.
I cannot use Google Music here in Canada (unless that has changed recently) or else I probably would.

What you need is dlna server and client. transformer already comes with program that supports it. It's called "mynet". On pc you can use windows media player to share you music.
Ps3 media server is the best PC side app ive used for this sort of thing, never tried it with the tf101 but works great with a ps3 or wd tv live.

Maybe Audiogalaxy is what you are looking for? It is what I use to stream music from my PC to my Transformer. It's very easy to use.
I use PlugPlayer. It picks up on any DLNA servers so no additional PC services needed. I also use subsonic for remote access away from home, but it does use a PC service.

is there a media player app that can play music directly from your computer over network?
gMote 2.0 has this feature though it is very buggy and a pain to use sometimes.

Depending on your device and what software is already installed on your computer, "UPnPlay" will add universal plug and play to your phone if not present, allowing you to connect to many different UPNP devices over wi-fi. This allows my Droid to connect to Windows Media player to play just about anything (audio/video) in my library. Should have been included in all 2.2 builds in my opinion.

Audiogalaxy for sure. Its amazing.
thanks, audio galaxy is just what i needed.
Plex is pretty good for video streaming
Audiogalaxy does audio well but is less perfect from the video streaming point of view
DLNA
I'm using J. River Media Center with the Android Gizmo app to stream media (it's free on the Market). So I can use my Desire HD as the server or client and send media anywhere in my home over wifi. Solid app but takes a bit of setting up to start.. and the Windows client is not free.
Winamp has such a feature as long as you install winamp on your system and setup it's network player it should be really easy.

I've tried them all. I gave up my zune since I didn't want to update it or delete music for new stuff. I'd rather have access to my music anywhere.
Audiogalaxy- first thing I tried. It didn't pick up all my music regardless of how many times I redid the library. The audio quality was ok but it was a really basic app and website.
Homepipe- useless since it only streams if the app is active. Hit home and you're sitting in silence.
Subsonic- didn't try it too long. Another basic app.
Jukefly- still using this. Love it. It installed on my htpc no problem and the app is nice outside of having to manually force close the service. Quality is adjustable by network type. It picks up my music, and adds new stuff without having to refresh the library. The Internet app is great foo. If your server is off it will still display your library but stream the audio from youtube. I highly recommend it.

I usually just mount my music network share with cifs manager, then any app can access the files on the share.
I see that the thread is relatively old, but maybe some of the people still have their setups working.
Did you do something special to the setup on Windows, because I would like to do more or less the same, but neither my computer sees my phone nor the other way around.
I have another UPNP-server in my Wifi which can be used by my phone as well as my computer, but what I would love to do is tell my computer to play what's on the server using my phone as remote. It worked nicely with mpd and mpDroid, but I would love to have this setup also work with Win7...
Any hints?
i tried setting up a upnp and it worked fine over wifi but doesnt seem to work over 4g and im not sure what else i can use to setup a working stream.
if you have the option to set up an ip address in your upnp player, you could try a service like dynamic dns to give your server an outside IP, you'll have to forward the ports in your router, but instead of connecting to 192.168.1.100, you'd connect to myserver.dyndns.com in your upnp app.
how are you getting 4g to the transformer? some sort of myfi?
evo 4g. with the filter proxy to get better speed

Hello,
I'm trying to stream video to my asus eee pad transformer with upnp (ushare) and my tablet is not able to play video even over wifi.
What app did you use on Android as client? Is this a player which can connect directly to your upnp?
Thank you in advance.
Dorgan
upnplay and mobplayer. file were hosted through windows media player. currently look at a render to use to stream
Thank you for you reply.
I hope you'll find a way to read your stream over 4G.
I was having similar problems, my TF can see the movies on my shared drive, but when i click them it cannot play them using the 'my net' app.
I have installed 'PLEX'
http://www.appbrain.com/app/plex-for-android/com.plexapp.android
(and the server on my PC.)
you use the server program and add the folders you want shared, then you use the app and you can stream lots more formats than the 'my net' app and you can specify the transfer speed/bandwidth etc.
the server app grabs meta data for the files you add from the net and adds DVD cover art to your movies as well.
I didnt need to do any port forwarding or anything complex with it installed on Windows 7 home premium, it just works.
It also says it will work over 3G/4G but I havent tried yet.
Also, just discovered, the app UPnPlay http://www.appbrain.com/app/upnplay/cx.hoohol.silanoid is very good, it allows you to choose the app that you want to use to play the streaming movie with,
so you can use rockplayer moboplayer or vplayer etc. I havent found a single file format that wont stream yet using a UPnPlay-rockplayer combo.
still no luck on finding something that would work over 4g beside myCloud.
Alright so I am looking for a way to stream media from my Windows7 machine to my phone in a nice easy way if possible over my local wifi network for now, over the internet would be a plus... I am running a 2.3.3 rom but my biggest problem I think is getting software to turn my computer into a media server that my phone can recognize and then start streaming media from my media hard drive...
Any ideas or suggestions... would love to know what you guys are using!
Thanks!
I use serviio to stream all my movies and shows to all devices in the house, for the phone to see all shares I use upnplay and mobo player for unsupported formats. Also if you have smart share on stock builds that works really good.
Plex works best, I've tried many alternatives.

Ya Plex is awesome, I completely forgot about it. Plex shows you artwork for all your media, very clean look. You can also set it so you can access it over WiFi or 3g from anywhere. As long as you have a decent upload.
ES File Explorer
allows you to view shared files over LAN. just share the folder you want to view (or put it in the "Public" user folder). Built in video player and image viewer.
VLC does this as well.

Just open up a share to the folder, and provided your rom (well, more specifically, kernel) has cifs support, it's easy. If you don't want to mount shares manually there is an app in the market that does it. (I think it's cifs manager, if memory serves.)
Hi
I know it has been posted before, but I am not yet satisfied with the solutions. Situation is that I have my mp3 collection on my NAS, I can access it via upnp, itunes server or samba.
However, there doesn't seem to be UPNP player that fully supports my setup (my mp3s are in folders Music\A\Ark\Album1\trackXX.mp3) and I am only able to play single albums. Besides that, they usually do not look very nice on my Honeycomb tablet and do not support headphones control.
Second option was mounting CIFS partition and use normal music player app (my favourite is "Cubed"). This works, but my NAS is being accessed all the time because of "media scans" etc, so it cannot properly hibernate.
Is there something better? I am getting quite jealous on iPhone/iPad users who can easily stream their whole music collection via built in iPod app.
Cheers
I also have a NAS at home, with SMB enabled. I use ES File Explorer to play files from the NAS. You could also enable the media server on your NAS, and use 'UPnPlay' from the Android Market. Good luck.
Well that's what I tried - both samba and upnp. Samba works but Android keeps checking my samba share too often, draining my battery and preventing my NAS to sleep. The other option (upnp) works, but my directory structure isn't recognized by bubbleupnp and I can only play single folder. So I am still looking for more optimal solution ;-)

I find that a lot of the time that I am around my house that I require the portability of my phone but I want to listen to the podcast I just downloaded on my tf101, or my large music library. An app that could push audio from my tablet to my phone, and that would allow me to skip forward, back, and pause would be awesome. I just don't understand why it hasn't been made yet (or why I can't find it)
Thanks!
(P.S. I would be willing to pay for an app that could do this)
It can be done trough UPNP (Universal Plug and Play).
Your tf101 can be set up as an UPNP render as wel as a UPNP server.
Just search the market for upnp or dlna.
You can connect tf101 with bluetooth, cable. Doesn't matter.
Your phone can be set up as an UPNP controller.
The controller tells the renderer to fetch music from the server.
I'm using the same thing, except that my FreeNAS is serving the audio/video/photo's.
In your case the tf101 also acts as a server.
Kind regards!
As an example: Check out UPNPLAY or 2player.

You don't need to push the music to the phone to be able to control it from the phone.
You can just use this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1292627
It makes makes your phone a media controller for your tablet.
thanks for the tips guys, but only one app on the market would allow my transformer to be a upnp server and it kept crashing on me. That droidmote thing is almost perfect, but I want to use my phone to listen to music that is stored in my tf. (Musicmatays on my tf, playback is controlled by phone, sound comes out phone.
Merry Christmas!
